Facebook is reportedly planning to change its name in an effort to reflect its work building the "metaverse," The Verge reports, citing a source familiar with the matter.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg reportedly plans to announce the name change at the company's Connect conference on October 28, if not sooner. The name change could signal Facebook's intentions to grow further beyond a social media company and into more of a tech conglomerate. With Facebook owning Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus VR devices, and other brands, the name change will likely organize every group under one umbrella, similar to Google's change to Alphabet in 2015.
Zuckerberg has previously commented on Facebook's intentions to expand into different technology and...
Far Cry 6 is the latest in Ubisoft’s open-world franchise, building on the base-clearing, first-person shooting, and definitions of insanity of the past while simultaneously introducing some smart new ideas that could help pave the way for where Far Cry goes next. For sixteen years now, this series has been known for unleashing players in massive, alluring worlds both familiar and unfamiliar across vastly different continents, time periods, and sometimes even apocalypses while giving them total freedom to cause mischief and mayhem.
That’s mostly been a winning formula, but the Far Cry franchise is as much about being experimental as it is about feeling familiar. So which are the best games in the series? Here are the top ten Far Cry...
A chance meeting is part of the reason Sora from Kingdom Hearts joined Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as its final fighter.
In the latest Masahiro Sakurai Famitsu column, translated by @PushDustIn and @KodyNOKOLO on Twitter, the Smash director pulled back the curtain on Sora's inclusion.
According to the translation, Sakurai reiterated that getting Sora in the game was much more difficult than other fighters. However, Sakurai managed to bump into a Disney representative at an awards show, which seemed to kickstart the discussions that made Sora in Smash a reality.
Sora's inclusion was finalized later than the rest of Ultimate's DLC roster. Sakurai said Fighters Pass 2 originally only had five fighters: Min Min, Steve, Sephiroth...

A new trailer for Starfield has revealed some of the main players that we’ll interact with on our journey through Bethesda’s galaxy, including two factions once engaged in a bloody war that sounds a little like Skyrim’s civil war conflict.
The trailer is filled with not just information on the universe of Starfield and its key factions, but also concept art of its alien worlds and characters. You can see a little of that in the tweet from @klobrille below.
In Starfield, your character will be a new member of the Constellation, a faction with the aim of uncovering the mysteries of the galaxy. The area of space that we’ll be exploring is known as The Settled Systems, and starts with our own solar system and expands outwards by around...
Bungie has angered fans by announcing that new dungeons coming with the upcoming Witch Queen expansion will only be available as standalone purchases, or as part of Deluxe Editions.
As explained by community manager Cozmo23 on Reddit, standard edition copies of The Witch Queen and Year 5 season passes will not include the three new dungeons coming down the line. Instead, two dungeons will be part of the Digital Deluxe edition ($79.99 USD / £69.99), with a third dungeon coming alongside the Digital Deluxe + Bungie's 30th Anniversary Bundle ($99.99 USD / £87.99).
The dungeons will also be made available as standalone purchases. "We will also be offering a separate way for you to purchase the Dungeons in the future," explained Cozmo23...
Epic Games Publishing has announced two new studio partners: Spry Fox (Cozy Grove) and Eyes Out (the new studio from Spec Ops: The Line creative director Cory Davis, and Nine Inch Nails guitarist Robin Finck).

It follows Epic's partnerships with Remedy (which recently released Alan Wake Remastered and is rumoured to be working on Alan Wake 2), Inside developer Playdead, and genDESIGN (headed by Ico, Shadow of the Colossus and Last Guardian creator Fumito Ueda).
Spry Fox's new game is described as its biggest ever, a "multiplatform nonviolent persistent multiplayer title". Spry Fox...
No Man's Sky has announced Emergence, a fourth expedition and Halloween update that focuses on the game's horrific sandworms. Also it adds flesh fireworks, because why not?
Expeditions are No Man's Sky's event quests, and Emergence is the first with a full narrative attached – stranding players on a barren world and asking them to solve the mystery of a cult that appears to be connected to the Titan Worms infesting planets across the galaxy.
The expedition also acts as a mini-update, adding a number of features to the game, from better particle effects to fully rideable flying sandworms (after you tame and grow them, of course). There are also a number of grosser effects being added, from a jetpack trail that fires worms, and a...
Respawn has asked Apex Legends players to stop posing – at least, until they can implement a fix next week to stop client crashes linked to Epic poses.
Apex Legends has been plagued by crashes recently, as a result of a new bug caused by animated Epic poses – which are animated poses that play out on the game's menu screens between matches. Developer Respawn has issued a statement about this game-breaking issue, with some stern advice: stop posing.
“We’ve just published this message in-game to help cut down on crashes called by animated poses,” they shared via Twitter. “Tell your friends! A full fix is scheduled for next week.”
The full in-game message reads: “Bug Notice: There’s currently an issue with animated poses which can...
PC specifications for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy seemed to suggest that the game would require a huge 150GB of space to install – but Square Enix has now made clear that this isn't the final size, with approximately 80GB being the new target.
As spotted by PC Gamer, the minimum and recommended system requirements for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy were recently uploaded to its Steam Store page. While many of the necessary PC specifications needed to run the game don't seem too taxing, players were told they'd need to have 150GB of free storage space on their systems just to be able to install the game.
Many were confused by the huge size – by comparison, the imposingly massive Microsoft Flight Simulator takes up 127GB –...

Game Pass subscriptions have slowed in the fiscal year 2021 according to new documents released by Microsoft.
In a new financial statement, Microsoft revealed that Xbox Game Pass subscriptions rose by 37.5% falling short of its internal target of 47.8%. In contrast, last year Microsoft over-performed on its targets to grow Xbox Game Pass, increasing subscriptions by nearly 86% over a goal of 71%.
What this means is that Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass subscriptions have slowed this past year, and it’s likely a combination of factors. One of the key promises of Xbox Game Pass is that first-party titles will be available on the service day and date. So far in 2021, first-party titles have been relegated mostly to Age of Empire remasters...
Activision Blizzard is currently facing serious ongoing allegations of harassment and mistreatment of marginalized workers. To learn more, please visit our timeline as well as our in-depth report on the subject.
People paying in-game money for powerful players to "carry" them through top-level World of Warcraft content has been a common practice in the game for years, but the revelation that Blizzard's co-lead is participating in the practice has sparked a new flurry of discussion about "raid boosts" within the community.
The chatter kicked off when recently-instated Blizzard co-lead and former Xbox VP Mike Ybarra tweeted a few days ago that he would be streaming his WoW guild's "heroic SoD sales run." For those who don't play WoW...
Marcus Lehto, the co-creator of Halo and the founder of Disintegration studio V1 Interactive, has announced that he has joined EA as a game director.
Announcing the role on Twitter, Lehto revealed that he is building a new studio in the Seattle area. This new studio will work on "first person games", although it's not clear if these will be original games or new entries in existing EA series (so start your Titanfall 3 prayers now).
"I can't wait to share more about what we're creating!" Lehto concluded.
Lehto is best known for being Bungie's Creative Art Director, a position he held from 1997 to 2012. Having worked on the original Halo: Combat Evolved, he's responsible for the creation of Master Chief. He went on to work on all of...
The Dead By Daylight character model for Pinhead has been licensed as an NFT and the game's fanbase isn't all too pleased about it.
As reported by PC Gamer, fans will now be able to purchase an NFT of the Pinhead character model from Dead By Daylight. The sale of the NFT comes from the company Boss Protocol who, as part of an FAQ, states that it has "the official license to create NFTs based on Hellraiser using the in-game models that were created for Dead by Daylight."
According to the company, Pinhead's arrival on the Blockchain comes as part of a "unique generated collection" strictly limited to 10,000 NFTs, across a range of different rarity models. For some fans purchasing the digital token, the NFT will also come with a copy of...
Xbox has announced that Microsoft Flight Simulator: Game of the Year Edition will launch as a free update on November 18, adding aircraft, airports, air races, and probably more things that have "air" in their name.
Announced on Xbox Wire, the update will be added free for all players – including those who own the game through a Game Pass subscription. THe update adds five new aircraft, eight new airports, as well as extra Discovery Flights and tutorials. The update will also add DX12 support for PC versions.
This update will also include the Reno Air Races expansion, which adds competitive racing to the game for the first time. Announced earlier this year, air races will see multiple high-speed planes added, and allow eight players...
Ubisoft has reportedly greenlit development of a new, mainline Splinter Cell game. If the rumour proves true, it will be the first core entry in the Tom Clancy stealth series since 2013's Splinter Cell: Blacklist.
A report from VGC claims multiple "development sources" have revealed that a new Splinter Cell is in an early phase of production, with a small chance of the game being announced in 2022. The project has apparently been greenlit as part of an effort to appease frustrated Tom Clancy and Splinter Cell fans, who have been less than happy with Ubisoft's treatment of the brand over the last decade.
No further details were provided in the report, aside from the suggestion that the new Splinter Cell will be developed outside of...
Over the years, fans have managed to port Doom to a number of weird and wonderful places. From popping up in Minecraft to running on an Apple Watch, the game's community constantly seems to be finding new ways to play the game. In perhaps one of the more inventive methods to allow fans access the Doom universe, players are now able to complete the game on Twitter.
The creation of a Tweet2Doom bot on the social media platform now means that users can attempt to complete the game by using various commands in Twitter replies to the account. In doing so, players can control the game's iconic Doom Marine, and are able to see the consequences of their actions in short ten-second clips that the account sends back.
A full set of the rules...

The Steam Deck promises to cram a gaming PC into a handheld format, and now Valve is testing out what games work well on the platform.
Valve is introducing a system of symbols to tell players how individual games perform on Steam Deck. There are four tiers of compatibility within this new system.
Verified
A green check indicates the game passed Valve's tests for controller input, display, seamlessness, and system support.
Playable
A yellow symbol means the game is playable, but may need some tweaking to be an enjoyable experience. Valve says this may mean selecting a community-made controller configuration, using the touchscreen, and more.
Unsupported
A gray symbol means the game does not work on Steam Deck. An easy...
DC League of Super-Pets: The Adventures of Krypto and Ace is an upcoming video game spin-off of the animated movie, coming to PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC (via Steam) in Spring 2022.
Announced at at DC FanDome 2021, the game appears to be an on-rails shooter set in Metropolis, seeing Superman's dog, Krypto (played by Dwayne Johnson in the movie version) firing lasers at invading robots, earning XP for each one destroyed. He also seems to use a special melee attack at one point.
While the trailer doesn't show Ace (Batman's dog, played by Kevin Hart in the movie), it seems safe to say he'll also be a part of the game in some respect.
DC League of Super-Pets is an upcoming animated movie, featuring Johnson...
The Kingdom Hearts series is coming to Nintendo Switch, but there's a catch: the beloved games will only be available on Nintendo's hybrid console through cloud versions. Now, we're learning why Square Enix hasn't committed to full downloadable versions on Switch.
Speaking to Nintendo Life, series producer Ichiro Hazama said the decision to make cloud versions of Kingdom Hearts was due to the Switch's storage capacity.
"For some time, our director Tetsuya Nomura had expressed his desire to deliver the Kingdom Hearts series to Nintendo Switch players, him having seen and heard the demand, and so a great deal of consideration went into this internally," Hazama said. "Bringing these titles to Nintendo Switch proved to be quite...
A character originally introduced in Titanfall 2 is coming to Apex Legends as its newest playable character.
Ash is a Simulacrum Pilot from Titanfall 2. Her other identity is Dr. Ashleigh Reid, who was turned into a Simulacrum after betraying her fellow scientists and getting stabbed in the process. Reid has also already appeared in Apex Legends as the announcer for the Arenas mode. Along with the new champion, there will be new weapons like the C.A.R. SMG, which is also a callback to the Titanfall series.
You can check out Ash's full reveal trailer below.
The new playable character is coming as part of Apex Legends' newest season, called Escape. We don't yet know how Ash will control, as Respawn said it will reveal more details...
Elden Ring has been delayed until February 25, 2022. However, the game will get a closed network test from November 12-14 – and you can register to be a part of it now, but it will be a consoe test only.
Announced on Twitter, the Elden Ring team explained that the delay – which is just over a month from the original date of January 21 – is because, "the depth & strategic freedom of the game exceeded initial expectations." The team thanked players for their patience.
There was some better news, however, with the annoucnement of a Closed Network Test, being used to judge how well the game's online elements work when put under the stress of a full playerbase.
The Closed Network Test is for console only, with the option to try the...
Compulsion Games, the studio behind We Happy Few, says that it has doubled in size for its newest project, which will be a third-person narrative-driven single-player game.
During an interview with Xbox Squad (as translated by VGC), Compulsion Games PR and Community Developer Naila Hadjas talked further about the studio's recent expansion and its plans for the future, saying: “I think we gave ourselves a little time to learn. It’s our first game with Microsoft and we’re learning a lot."
Microsoft announced back at E3 2018 that it had bought Compulsion Games as part of a mass acquisition that included the likes of Forza Horizon developer Playground Games, State of Decay's Undead Labs, and Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice developer Ninja...
Final Fantasy 14 director and producer Naoki Yoshida says that discussions between Square Enix and Microsoft to bring the game to Xbox are 'positive', but still ongoing.
In an interview with Easy Allies, Yoshida talked further about the current status of an Xbox version of Final Fantasy 14. While the director was hesitant to confirm any new details surrounding the game, he did point out that talks between Square Enix and Microsoft have taken a positive turn.
"So I feel bad for saying the same thing every time," said Yoshida when asked if there was any news on an Xbox version of FF14. "But we are still in discussions with Microsoft and I feel like our conversations are going in a positive tone. I don't want to say that we do not have...
Xbox Game Studios Publishing inadvertently caused a stir yesterday by posting tweets that seemed to point to a Fable announcement – before deleting them and apologising, saying that it doesn't have "big game news" incoming, about Fable or anything else.
The confusion began when the account – which represents Xbox exclusives from outside the company's fully-owned studios – posted a tweet reading, "We're excited to kick off something special tomorrow! (Just give us one more day to prepare the chickens.)"
That might have been innocuous enough, even though chickens have been a part of Fable's sense of humour throughout the series. Unfortunately for the social media manager in charge, they followed up with, "We'd call it our Fable...
What appears to be new Elden Ring gameplay footage is currently making the rounds on social media, seemingly offering a glimpse of how the game will run outside of official trailers.
The thirty-second clip is set on a rocky hilltop near a broken castle, with a spectral tree rising in the distance. After rotating the camera to offer a clearer look at the environment, we're treated to the character jumping up to the hill crest, causing a pair of eagles to light into the air in a flurry of feathers.
The footage was allegedly captured on an Xbox One, though its origin remains unconfirmed. Assuming it's legitimate, the new footage gives us a better feel for Elden Ring's movement, particularly in terms of how the main character handles...
The brand-new Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League trailer features an Easter Egg that honors the comic book origins of main characters Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, and King Shark.
As reported by GamesRadar.com, the Suicide Squad trailer, which debuted at DC FanDome 2021, gives us another glimpse at these four characters and one scene at the beginning shows them in prison garb. While that alone may not be too surprising considering these characters have dark pasts, the numbers on their clothes reference their first appearance in the comics.
Captain Boomerang sports the number 117-12-60 and it is a reference to his first appearance in The Flash #117 in December 1960. Deadshot's inmate number is 59-06-50 and honors his debut in...
More than a year after being announced, we've finally seen the first in-engine footage of Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, which included looks at the game's versions of The Flash, Green Lantern, and Wonder Woman.
Shown off at DC FanDome 2021, a story trailer (which did not reveal a new release date, but reconfirmed a 2022 release) showed the game's main characters being recruited from Arkham Asylum (the version from Rocksteady's Batman games, incidentally) and sent to Metropolis to fight a seemingly alien threat.
However, the objective is changed to killing the Justice League shortly after their arrival. Interestingly, though, while we definitely see corrupted versions of Superman and The Flash, and what may well be a...
