An Elden Ring player has beaten the game using only the Ground Slam Ash of War. For those unfamiliar, this is basically the ground pound from Mario, where players jump into the air before slamming to the ground on their butt. YouTube user Distortion2, an Elden Ring speedrunner who currently holds the world record for beating the game in under nine minutes, uploaded a two-hour highlight reel of his Ground Slam-only run, as spotted by Games Radar. Unlike his speedruns, Distortion2 does defeat a number of bosses in this playthrough, and while he doesn't take on all of them, he does make his way through all Remembrance bosses (which are the main, tough ones). This feat is also achieved from a completely fresh character, meaning it's...
Halo 3 and ODST can now be played crossplay through the Master Chief Collection. Developer 343 Industries released a new update to the eight year old game (or 15 for Halo 3 and 13 for ODST) that adds a number of new features. Namely, players can now play the campaigns of Halo 3 and ODST cooperatively with other players whether they're on Xbox One, Series, or PC. Doing so may not work perfectly straight away, 343 Industries warned, as "the team requires additional insight from real players with different networking setups," they said in a blog post. The update adds several other features to the Master Chief Collection and weighs in at 21.56GB on Xbox, 26.5GB on the Xbox PC app, and 11.2GB on Steam. A new mode called Flood...

The League of Legends MMO may never be released according to the game's executive producer, but he remains "optimistic" that it still probably will. Speaking on Twitter (the same way he announced the game in December 2020) Executive Producer of the MMO project at Riot Games, Greg Street, said there's "no guarantee this game will ship". Street later clarified this is largely the case with any game though: "Until a game ships, you don't know it will ship", he told a fan. "We wouldn't be dedicating so much time to it if we thought the chance of shipping was low." The only reason it wouldn't be released, he said later, is if it's not up to Riot Games' standards. A fan asked why, if a lot of players wanted to play a League of Legends...
There are plenty of great gaming deals going on at the moment across the spring sales, and a certain notable Xbox game has surfaced at a rather good price. Halo Infinite is now available for just $19.99 at Best Buy, a massive drop from its $60 retail price. Not only that, but this copy still also includes the Halo Infinite Steelbook, which is worth $10 alone. Just for clarity, it's worth noting that this deal is for Halo Infinite's campaign, not to be confused with the Halo Infinite Multiplayer, which is still free-to-play and about to enter its Season 2 of content. So overall, it's a pretty impressive deal for what is considered one of the best games of 2021. Halo Infinite Drops to Just $20 at Best Buy If you're not on Game Pass...

While Cyberpunk 2077 has significantly improved from its notoriously difficult launch, a developer from CD Projekt says the game still has a long way to go. In a video posted on the Cyberpunk 2077 subreddit, Quest Director Paweł Sasko shared some behind-the-scenes information about Cyberpunk 2077. When asked if CD Projekt is planning to deliver a DLC expansion this year, Sasko explained the studio's priorities. "I can assure you that we are working [on an] expansion, we're working [on] stuff for you guys besides that," Sasko said. "That didn't change, we are still improving the game because we are all aware there is work to be done." Sasko also expressed appreciation for the positive feedback they've received about Cyberpunk 2077's...

IGN and Rogue Games have partnered up to produce Rogue Jam, a brand-new game jam that not only offers publishing deals to indie developers, but also $800,000 in total prize money that will be used to bring their game to life. Devs from around the world submitted their unreleased games late last year, and the Rogue Jam panel of judges that includes IGN EVP and CCO Peer Schneider and former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé have spent the last couple months picking the best of the best. The winning games and developers will be announced beginning April 18, and this watch guide will help ensure you don’t miss a thing and can see some of the biggest and brightest indie games that may one day just become your new favorite...
Ubisoft's Watch Dogs is getting an official manga set in Tokyo. The manga will debut in Japanese on April 12 and is simply called Watch Dogs Tokyo, as spotted by manga news feed Manga Mogura RE (below) and shared by Games Radar. It will feature the evil Bloom Corporation from the Watch Dogs games — which have so far been set in Chicago, San Francisco, and most recently London — as it extends its reach to Japan. Manga Mogura RE also shared a plot synopsis, saying: "It will be about a special new infrastructure system from a company called Bloom Japan used by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to change people's lives. However this new system does in fact also harbour a great darkness. Not much else is know other than it will be...
Elden Ring seemingly once featured items and quests that focused on exploring NPCs dreams. Lance McDonald, a prominent dataminer who's previously revealed secrets in Demon's Souls and Bloodborne, explored the mechanic using 2021's network test version of Elden Ring (spotted by Eurogamer). Though cut from the final game, the content had a unique, fully voiced and animated character called Monk Jiko who requested the player bring him Dream Mist - an item acquired from the dreams of certain NPCs. Exploration was limited in the early version of Elden Ring but McDonald showed two sleeping characters, a Wolf and Land Octopus, with a "dense fog of sleep" floating around them, indicating that Dream Mist could be extracted. These were...
An Elden Ring speedrunner has now beaten the game in less than nine minutes. YouTube user Distortion2 has cut his time down to just 8 minutes and 56 seconds, primarily using the Zip glitch – which essentially allows players to teleport across different parts of the map. Combined with other exploits that allow most of the game to be skipped, Distortion2 has shaved minutes from his time day after day since setting the first under-30 minute speedrun a month ago. Several different speedrun styles already exist such as runs without taking damage, runs without dealing damage, and more complete playthroughs in which players beat all of Elden Ring's major bosses. Like Dark Souls and Bloodborne, players will likely find new ways to play...
After travelling to the neon-lit, Japanese culture-inspired vision of a futuristic Kamigawa earlier this year, Magic: The Gathering is now shifting to the no less visually arresting world of New Capenna. A city "built by angels and ruled by devils," New Capenna is a 1920s-esque art deco noir metropolis, run by five crime families. This concept comes to life wonderfully well in the card art (and all the different treatments), but the designers have really doubled down on it for the mechanics too. Each of the five syndicates is represented by a three-colour combination and a unique mechanic. You can read about each of them here but to give you an idea, The Obscura are represented by white, blue and black, and are magic users focused on...
Kingdom Hearts 4 and Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link were officially announced at the series' 20th anniversary event. While no platforms or release date/window for Kingdom Hearts 4 was revealed, we do get a glimpse of Sora in the new world of Quadratum, a quick look at gameplay, and an ending tease complete with Donald and Goofy. The footage we were given shows an artstyle that very much resembles the previous games, but it has a much more realistic look this time around. Square Enix has also confirmed that the game is in "early development," so the wait may be a tough one. The trailer begins by saying this is the "Lost Master Arc," with narration saying, "if this isn't the ending you desired - if it brings your despair - then leave...

Years ago, before I got into games media, I had a job that required me to drive around Kansas a lot, sometimes at night. If you've ever driven about a Midwestern state at night, you know the surreal experience of it - the darkness, the lack of cars, the strange, peaceful programs airing on late-night public radio stations, the quiet hum of a roadside convenience store with its eclectic beverage selection. In the midwest, there was also the haunting blinking sea of red lights in the distance. During the daytime, the truth of them would be obvious: turbines on one of Kansas' many wind farms. But at night, they looked like little alien ships landing in the distance. I never thought I'd find this experience replicated in a video game, but...
Despite a somewhat rocky start with sales, Guardians of the Galaxy developer Eidos Montreal is confident the game is still a "great ride." In the wake of the game’s 2021 release, Square Enix initially stated that Guardians of the Galaxy’s sales had underperformed. Thanks to numerous award nominations, discounts, and its inclusion on Xbox’s Game Pass, however, its sales have improved since its release. In the meantime, it has benefited from positive word-of-mouth, and Eidos Montreal stands by the game's quality overall. "I have no regrets," Guardians of the Galaxy senior creative director Jean-Francois Dugas told Eurogamer. "We did everything we could but that's the reality of the market... And let's not forget it's a new IP. Even...
Larian Studios creative director Swen Vincke loves collaborative storytelling, especially when there’s room for it to get as silly and original as possible. Chatting with me after his GDC talk, “The Many Challenges of Making 'Baldur's Gate 3'”, Vincke and I start out by sharing our mutual desires to play video games alongside our partners, whether in-person or long distance. I tell him that Original Sin 2’s online play allowed my partner and I to still have date nights even while living half a country apart. He tells me his own relationship was why the feature exists in the first place. “There's split screen in [Divinity: Original Sin 1] already,” he says. “The only thing was I never played it anymore because when I finish a game...

Four years ago, between the announcement of Xbox Game Pass and its launch, Microsoft’s vision for the “Netflix of games” had yet to come into focus. Phil Spencer and team Xbox were clear in its direction, though public perception surrounding the game subscription service was muddier: What did Game Pass mean for consumers? Was it sustainable for developers? How would it affect the future of game ownership? Now, coming up on the service’s fourth anniversary, public perception has cleared, and the verdict is near-universal: Xbox Game Pass has been heralded as a cost-effective, accessible alternative to traditional game purchasing for many players. As Sony takes a bigger step into offering its own subscriptions with its “all-new...
A Call of Duty: Warzone player has glitched their way into Rebirth Island's Golden Vault. The mysterious vault was added during the Season Two Reloaded update in March and teased to be opened soon, but one impatient player has now managed to force their way in. As reported by DualShockers, Twitter user @BobNetworkUK uploaded a video of the glitch (below), showing another player essentially push them through the vault door with a jeep. The vault appears to be fully functional apart from its locked doors, as it's full of loot chests that open as normal. The weapons dropped are useless, however, as there's no way to glitch back out into the main map. The previously mysterious doors were due to be unlocked soon as Infinity Ward had...
Halo Infinite Season 2 will add new maps, modes, and events when it launches on May 3. Announced with a trailer on the game's official Twitter page, Season 2 is titled Lone Wolves and promises several new additions to the multiplayer portion of Halo Infinite. "Gear up for Season 2 of Halo Infinite," the post said. "Experience fresh content, including new maps, modes, themed limited-time events, and an all new Battle Pass that never expires." While the trailer doesn't give too much away, developer 343 Industries has previously said the new Battle Pass will allow players to earn credits to spend in the in-game shop on items, cosmetics, and even the next Battle Pass. Season 2 is also expected to fix the lack of content that has the...
Elden Ring players have discovered a quick and easy way to defeat Starscourge Radahn, one of the game's toughest bosses. The famed Red Lion seemingly shares the fear of most cats as drawing him towards the water in his boss arena causes Radahn to defeat himself. As reported by PC Gamer, the method was shared at similar times by both Reddit user HomeGrownCrown7 and Twitter user izuoku_ (below). It's a strategy that, while 'cheesy', still requires some skill as players need to first bring Radahn's health bar down to 50% before the instant kill method can be used. This prompts the boss to enter his second stage which starts with a massive attack where Radahn leaps into the air before shooting back down in the form of a comet. By...

Sea of Thieves is getting a partially randomised three-part quest called Legend of the Veil. The update arrives on April 21 and aims to combine a well put together, cinematic story with the "anything can happen" appeal of regular gameplay. While the third chapter of Legends of the Veil is unchanging, the first two sections will have randomly generated quests with both combat and puzzle-solving objectives. The mission starts as the Pirate Lord appears on-board, asking the player to collect three Veil Stones to place in the Veil Mask, each located behind their own mini-adventure. Chapters one and two may take players to underwater shipwrecks and haunted islands, while the final chapter has them chase a tornado across the map while...

Activision Blizzard has announced that it will be converting nearly 1,100 US-based temporary and contingent QA workers to full-time positions. The company says that the change will increase Activision Publishing’s total full-time staff by 25%, following a recent conversion of nearly 500 contractors to full-time employees. However, some dozen QA team members at Raven Software were not part of this transition, leading to a walkout at the studio. Along with the move to full-time, QA workers will have their hourly rate increased to $20 per hour, and be able to partake in the company’s bonus plan and have access to full-time benefits. Activision Publishing COO Josh Taub and head of Blizzard Mike Ybarra both sent emails to staff today...
