Starfield is one of the most hotly anticipated games of the next few years. Coming from the team that brought us the Elder Scrolls and Fallout series, Bethesda’s space-focused RPG has built excitement since it was announced in 2018, despite very little of it being actually shown. With a 2023 release planned, the recent gameplay reveal finally gave us a look at the upcoming Xbox and PC exclusive, and a chance to understand just what the team plans to deliver. At a headline level, the game is based on an evolved version of the Creation engine. Entitled the Creation Engine 2, it has clear similarities within its rendering output to both Fallout 76 and Skyrim, which were both built on its predecessor. Fallout 4 and later games ushered in...
Gwendoline Christie has expressed enthusiasm for returning to play Captain Phasma in the Star Wars universe, saying she "would absolutely love" her chrome-covered character to make a comeback. Speaking to Empire, Christie acknowledged there could be more to explore with the character outside of her live-action appearances in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, where she fell in battle against Finn. Phasma has made a couple of appearances elsewhere in the galaxy far, far away and has even had her own comic run, but that has only left Christie feeling like there may be some untapped potential there. "I haven't read the comics but, I mean, it's Star Wars! I would absolutely love that," Christie said of any future opportunities to...
Two Point Campus continues in the already impressive footsteps of Two Point Hospital before it, dressing up an engaging business management sim in goofy irreverence. To be honest, its dorky, oddball sense of humor misses me more often than it hits. But that all fades into the background for the most part when I'm having a blast laying out my new library, planning out dorms, and throwing sweet parties in the student union. Most of the time you'll be juggling your budget, student happiness, and the space requirements of running a university. It's similar to Two Point Hospital in that last regard – making the best of annoying geometry to cram in an extra lecture theater or much-needed bathroom put my mental Tetris skills to the test, and...
Life is Strange: True Colors was the first game in the series to be released as a full package – sidestepping the episodic release that the franchise was built on. Now, the developers can’t imagine going back. During an interview with Rock Paper Shotgun, senior narrative designer Philip Lawrence explained why the team wanted to try something new with the Life is Strange sequel, which was still separated into distinct chapters, but released as a single package. “I can't imagine we'd go back to the episodic model,” said Lawrence. “The reaction has been very positive. I think we were careful to keep that episodic structure, because that does seem to appeal to players. That's all part of the DNA of Life is Strange. As you can imagine, it...
New footage from the Hogwarts Legacy, the prequel game set in the wizarding world of Harry Potter has been unveiled. Revealed during a tech talk at the Autodesk Vision Series, the footage shows off a new section of cutscene work, as well as a glimpse at the game’s character customization. The new cutscene footage sees two Hogwarts students secretly watching while a trio of dark wizards attack and restrain a hippogriff: The scene ends with the students splitting up, presumably to tackle the dark wizards while they’re occupied, with the player character tasked with reaching higher ground. An aerial attack, perhaps? It’s an extended version of a scene we saw during the recent State of Play back in March, which sees the player-character...
The first season of Multiversus, the platform fighter from Warner Bros, is getting pushed back to a later date. The news comes in a Tweet from the official MultiVersus account alongside the news that the addition of the character Morty of Rick and Morty has also been delayed. The first Tweet in the thread thanks players for enjoying and playing the game before breaking the bad news about the delays. The thread ends with more appreciation for the fans and that the timing for the release will be revealed “as soon as [they] can.” Earlier today MultiVersus director Tony Huynh outlined a few details on his own Twitter account about the now delayed Season 1 Battle Pass. The news follows last week’s confirmation that the game would not see...
While I've not skimped on the other platforms, today's the day to score an inordinate amount of PlayStation savings. We can all thank the major retailers and their escalating price-match wars for this. Truly it's the only non-Star war worth celebrating in 2022. Something else worth highlighting: that Humble Bundle with all things Walking Dead. Telltale's GOTY-winning, adventure efforts are worth the price of that admission alone. Get bit by it. Thank me later. Notable Sales for Nintendo Switch Purchase Cheaply for PC Exciting Offers for XO/XS Product Savings for PS4/PS5 Adam Mathew is our Aussie deals wrangler. During today's Pokemon Presents presentation, the Pokemon team revealed a full map of Paldea, the region where Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet are set. While the official map is slightly blurry, a fanmade upscaled version is now giving us a clearer look at the Paldea region. Today, IGN's own Ryan Quintal created an upscaled version of the map, revealing notable details of the region in a Twitter thread. Quintal pointed out how diverse the map is, making note of several desert regions, seaside towns, smaller, grassy towns, and mountainous cliffside locations. Find all the details of Quintal's map below: The Pokemon Company also revealed further details about Paldea on its website, stating that it's filled with "a variety of...
The Steam Deck is getting a whole host of improvements in the newest update from Valve including improvements to docked mode, system updates, and more. The updates, detailed in the patch notes, include a lot of fixes as well as some new features. When in docked mode, you’ll be able to scale the Steam Deck user interface for external displays as well as toggle for automatic scaling. In an effort to presumably save battery life, the panel backlight will now stay off when docked. For those hoping to get a peek at what's to come for the Steam Deck, the update adds a software update channel selector. This will give users three options. Stable is the recommended channel for most users and will automatically install the latest stable Steam...
As MultiVersus enters its second week of open beta, its first official Season is on its way. Though we're just under a week away from Season 1's launch, fans still have plenty of questions regarding the Season 1 Battle Pass. Today, MultiVersus director Tony Huynh responded to a fan's Tweet with some details about the game's Season 1 Battle Pass. According to Huynh, the pass will cost 950 Gleamium — the game's paid currency — and offer 50 tiers. 1000 Gleamium is equivalent to roughly $9.99, meaning the Season 1 Battle Pass will cost a bit less than $10. Currently, the Preseason Battle Pass is running until August 8. It's much cheaper than the Season 1 Battle Pass at only 300 Gleamium, but it only has 15 tiers of character skins...
Employees at Bungie reportedly became the victims of harassment in June. The harassment would lead to the employees being doxxed and bombarded with racial slurs, phone calls, and text messages, and it reportedly began thanks to a tweet in celebration of working with a popular Destiny 2 player. The harassment started after one of Bungie's employees tweeted about their new collaboration with African-American streamer Uhmaayyze in early June for their game Destiny 2, reports The Record. This tweet would lead to doxxing and death threats toward several Bungie employees. The tweet received a reply threatening to kill employees on June 14. This was reportedly followed up with Bungie employees getting voicemails and texts on their personal...
Dead by Daylight is returning to Raccoon City with a new Resident Evil chapter tentatively titled Project W. Behaviour Interactive, the developers of Dead by Daylight, previously worked with Capcom to bring Jill Valentine and Leon S. Kennedy to the game. Now, a new Resident Evil collaboration will bring two new survivors to The Fog: Ada Wong and Rebecca Chambers. But with new survivors means a new Killer and it’s none other than Albert Wesker or The Mastermind as he’s called in The Fog. Check out the first teaser trailer below. Ada Wong is the series’ resident super spy while Rebecca Chambers is the young S.T.A.R.S. recruit and medic. Albert Wesker is a high-ranking Umbrella officer and is armed with super strength, a rush ability...
Dead By Daylight developer Behaviour Interactive is expanding its lineup with a new game called Meet Your Maker, a first-person building-and-raiding game where players design the levels. As announced during the Behaviour Beyond livestream, the Canadian studio announced its next game to go alongside its hit horror game Dead By Daylight. Just like the studio’s PvP horror game, Meet Your Maker revolves around an asymmetrical PvP experience where players create maze-like levels called Outposts that other players must then work to infiltrate. Check out the official reveal trailer below. Set on a dying world, players will become the Custodian, a servant to a living experiment known as the Chimera. In order for the Chimera to evolve...

Gotham Knights will include a lot of superhero suits for your characters to wear – and we have the designs for 28 of them to show you. From suits inspired by classic cartoons, to a set designed by a bona fide comic book legend, developer WB Games Montréal has drawn from DC’s rich history, but created some truly new ideas for how Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing and Red Hood could look in their take on the Batman universe. As part of this month's IGN First, we spoke to the game's creators about the unusual way they were designed, how they’ll work in game, how they can be customized, and more. First, it’s important to realize that Gotham Knights makes a distinction between suitstyles (suits that come with cosmetic and stat changes) and...
A World of Warcraft mobile game has reportedly been quietly canceled due to financing disputes. According to Bloomberg, the upcoming smartphone game had been in development for three years but has now been canceled due to a dispute between Activision Blizzard and NetEase. “The two companies disagreed over terms and ultimately called a halt to the project, which had been kept under wraps,” said a source close to the deal. The project, referred to as “Neptune” by those working on it, was said to be a Warcraft spin-off, set during a different period to World of Warcraft. It’s unknown whether it would have directly tied into either Warcraft, Warcraft II, or Warcraft III. The good news is that it’s not Warcraft Arclight Rumble – the...
Images of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer mode have been leaked through a very unlikely source – the LA Rams football team. LA Rams player Cameron Dicker revealed a glimpse of the upcoming Call of Duty game’s lobby screen, which he appeared to be playing at an event. “Having fun on the new @callofduty” he revealed in a now-deleted Instagram post (via Charlie Intel). It’s thought that the high-profile event gave LA Rams players a sneak preview of the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer. But Dicker also included a screenshot with his post, and several other images from the event give us an insight into what to expect from the upcoming CoD sequel. Although other players also posted images on social media, it seems...
It looks as though EA is still trying to make amends for that joke about single-player games, with CEO Andrew Wilson calling them "really, really important." During a recent earnings call, EA CEO Andrew Wilson reassured investors that single-player games are still a major part of the company's output… despite what it may say on Twitter. “As we think about single-player games, we think it's a really, really important part of the overall portfolio that we deliver in fulfillment of those core motivations.” EA recently came under fire after making a controversial tweet that mocked single-player games. The tweet itself was a poorly-executed response to a recent meme, but soon had gamers and industry figureheads alike wondering why EA...
As a deals writer, this is one my favourite kind of days. It's a situation where I literally have no time or space to construct a semi-amusing introduction, because there are too many deals afoot. With the finalization of Activision-Blizzard's acquisition by Microsoft imminent, EA is on the cusp of taking its place as the largest major standalone developer and publisher in the industry. Which of course has sparked plenty of questions about whether or not EA itself might one day be acquired. One of those rumors cropped up last May in a Puck report that revealed EA had been approached by Comcast CEO Brian Roberts about a potential acquisition — but it fell apart due to disagreements over price and structure. Though EA has repeatedly declined to comment on "rumors and speculation," CEO Andrew Wilson did answer a question on the subject of acquisitions during today's Q1 earnings call, reiterating that he didn't think the publisher...
In June Sony rolled out a revamped, tiered version of its long-running PlayStation Plus subscription, combining the benefits of the existing service — free monthly games, cloud saves, online multiplayer access — with an expanded version of its PlayStation Now game library. That library, an ever-growing catalog of nearly 400 PS4 and PS5 games, is available to subscribers of PS Plus’s top two tiers: Extra ($15 USD/month) and Premium ($18), the latter of which also included a Classics library from earlier consoles. We know it can be hard — stressful even — to sort through that many games and determine which may be worth your time. And so we’ve curated this list of what we consider some of the 33 best PlayStation Plus games available to...
In its first 60 days of release, Elden Ring became one of YouTube's biggest ever gaming launches, seeing well over 3 billion combined video views. In stats shared exclusively with IGN, Elden Ring saw 3.4 billion views in the two months after launch, dwarfing the next name on the list, GTA 5 on 1.9 billion. Of course, YouTube has grown since GTA's launch in 2013, making that something of an unfair comparison – but the far more recent Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018) saw 1.4 billion, so it's clear quite how successful Elden Ring has been. YouTube Gaming stops short of calling it the biggest gaming launch ever, but it's clear that FromSoftware's open world masterpiece has set an incredibly high bar for games on YouTube in the future. In...
The many independent developers I’ve spoken to over the years have described a wide array of diverse and unusual paths that brought them into game development in the first place. But Bear and Breakfast creator Rareș Cinteză is the first developer I’ve spoken to who not only didn’t imagine he’d ever be a game developer, but actively didn’t think he could be for the longest time. “It felt like one of those ‘that’s for other people’ kind of things,” he tells me shortly ahead of Bear and Breakfast’s recent PC launch. While Cinteză didn’t think he was cut out for the job, he still loved the idea of making games. So he started volunteering at conferences like GDC, doing graphic design for things like posters, and talking to developers...
Call of Duty and Overwatch publisher Activision Blizzard has lost millions of players compared to this time last year but, despite that decrease, has grown its pool of developers by 25%. During its latest earnings results, Activision Blizzard revealed that its monthly active users - categorised as anyone who accesses one of its games in that timeframe - fell from 372 million at the end of March 2022 to 361 million at the end of June. This drop continues the publisher's downward trend as the number of monthly active users on June 30 last year was 408 million, and it has fallen relatively steadily ever since. There are some extenuating circumstances at work – Activision Blizzard has had a notably quiet release schedule recently, party...
EA's DICE has finally addressed criticisms of one of Battlefield 2042's maps, which was dubbed a "walking simulator" by fans. The new update 1.2 reworks Kaleidoscope to include an "improved gameplay flow". The developer released patch notes for the update which arrives today, August 2, detailing its midseason update – which also includes a handful of other changes. The Kaleidoscope rework headlines these improvements, however, marking the first map update since DICE said it understands why fans "use terms such as 'walking simulator' to describe" Battlefield 2042 back in March. "We identified several focus areas for our launch maps where our quality standards could be improved through cover, intensity, line of sight, pathing and...
If you're keen on some cheap Streeties, Resi or Devil May Cry, today's your day. Like a famished zombie, Capcom has bitten large chunks off the RRPs of its best franchises. I'm also tracking the cheapest price for the forthcoming Spider-Man Remastered for PC and the incredibly well-built LEGO Skywalker Saga. Last but not least, there's a bunch of 360-era gems going for way less on the MS Store. Do not let the age of Dead Space 2 cause you to underestimate its horror potency. It's all-time. Riot Games has confirmed today that its upcoming 2D fighting game, currently codenamed Project L, will be free to play. This announcement was made in a video from executive producer Tom Cannon in a video posted to Twitter, where he also promised that whatever monetization the team ultimately implemented would be "respectful of both your time and your wallet." In the same video, Cannon confirmed that the team is currently finishing work on the game's core mechanics, and much of the team has already moved onto features like competitive play and social systems, or designing champions. One such champion was shown off briefly during the video, as well as in more detail in a subsequent blog post from associate game director Shaun Rivera...
A survey causing waves within the Overwatch 2 community is "not indicative of final pricing," a spokesperson tells IGN, as Blizzard seeks to introduce a version of the popular shooter without loot boxes. Blizzard's statement follows reports of a survey, first noted on Twitter by @Portergauge, that asks players whether they would be willing to pay $45 for the new highest rarity of Overwatch skins in the upcoming sequel. The idea didn't go down well. “Oof, friend of mine got an Overwatch survey for his account, some of these prices they're gauging for OW2 are really expensive,” said Portergauge. “I hope this is just him getting one of the higher price surveys and not an indication that they're leaning towards this much monetization.”...
