In what he described as an "emotional week", director Aaron Keller opened up about the decision to cancel Overwatch 2's planned PvE Hero mode, saying that the team "struggled to find its footing" amid what he called high expectations for the mode. "Things rarely go as planned in game development. We struggled to find our footing with the Hero Mission experience early on. Scope grew," Keller wrote in a new blog post. "We were trying to do too many things at once and we lost focus. The team built some really great things, including hero talents, new enemy units and early versions of missions, but we were never able to bring together all of the elements needed to ship a polished, cohesive experience." According to Keller, the PvE Hero...

Packaged with them are apparently five Kameo characters, NPC fighters that assist a player during a match. The Kameo characters listed in the leak are Tremor, Johnny Cage, Khameleon, Mavado, and Ferra. Of the playable characters, the two most interesting ones are Peacemaker and Homelander, which were previously reported to appear in Mortal Kombat 1. Peacemaker hails from DC...
LEGO 2K Drive may sound like it was named at 5:40 on a Friday afternoon – seriously, if blending the publisher’s name and a five-letter verb describing what you’ll be doing most is all it takes these days, I look forward to the next Call of Duty being christened Activision Shoot – but hey, don’t hold that against it. Highly charming and imaginative, 2K Drive fuses confident kart racing with a virtually unlimited custom garage, making it a place where you can spend just as much time fastidiously building vehicles as you do frantically racing them. LEGO 2K Drive cribs from a lot of existing racers, which makes it fairly easy to explain. Forza Horizon 4’s dearly-loved LEGO expansion rates as an automatic mention as a fellow open-world...

Disclosure: Humble Bundle, the publisher of Lost Skies, is owned by Ziff Davis, the parent company of IGN. Humble Bundle and IGN operate completely independently, and no special consideration is given to Humble Bundle announcements or promotions for coverage. Bossa Games, developer of I Am Bread, I Am Fish, and Surgeon Simulator, has announced its next game. It’s called Lost Skies, and in many ways, it’s a significant departure from Bossa’s previous humorous sandbox efforts. Lost Skies is an upcoming open-world, co-op adventure where up to six players work together to explore a world composed of floating islands, build flying ships, and take on gigantic monsters. It’s planned for a PC launch in 2024, but will enter what Bossa calls...
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor players are using the game's immense level of lightsaber customisation to recreate some of the franchise's most iconic (and sometimes niche) laser swords. The long-awaited sequel from EA aimed to double down on everything Jedi: Fallen Order did right, and as revealed by game director Stig Asmussen at Star Wars Celebration 2023, customisation was to be one of Jedi: Survivor's main pillars. Beyond just different colour schemes for Cal's ship, droid, and poncho, players could now customise everything from his moustache to his boots and, of course, his lightsaber. While most players used the ridiculous number of lightsaber components and colours to create a blade that suited them, some leaned back into the depths...
Amazon’s Lord of the Rings MMO isn’t scaring off The Lord of the Rings Online. Developers from the long running MMO have held strong against the announcement of a competitor. “[Lord of the Rings Online] is not going away", confirmed developer Standing Stone in a forum post. “LOTRO is like the long-lived Ents, Elves and Dwarves; and we mere mortals, are the stewards of LOTRO and its community. Standing Stone has every intention of growing and supporting this community. The road goes ever on...” The Lord of the Rings Online launched way back in 2007 and has developed a stalwart following. Now, a new MMO is coming from Amazon – and while it’s still in the early stages of development, it promises to give players a fresh look at...
It’s no secret the gaming community is kind of angry at Xbox since Redfall released. It really felt like the straw that broke the camel’s back. For too long Xbox fans have been asked to wait just a little bit longer for the next amazing AAA game, but enough is enough. Redfall was supposed to be that game, and look how that turned out. Now, with Redfall in the rearview mirror (aka the “Uninstalled” bin for most of us), it’s time to look forward to the next big release – Starfield. If Starfield is a flop or suffers from any kind of major problem – or, y’know, is just not that fun – faith in Xbox’s ability to deliver is going to be further shaken and as a result I imagine heads will roll at Xbox. Starfield doesn’t deserve this added...
Fans who noticed that Hogwarts Legacy had an unusual lack of repercussions for murdering and using other unforgivable curses will be pleased to hear that developer Avalanche Software also thought about it a lot. As reported by PC Gamer, a new datamine of the popular Harry Potter game has revealed that a morality system was at least tested before launch, meaning using unforgivable curses wasn’t quite so free and easy. YouTuber GrandTheftDiamonds uncovered a hidden morality system while looking through the game’s SQL files, and it would have given a House Point penalty to wizards who choose to use Avada Kedavra and the other unforgivable curses. As you might expect, the Killing Curse would have racked up the worst penalties, removing...
Respawn’s latest patch for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has arrived, bringing with it a slew of fixes and improvements to the PC version of the game. However, console players will need to wait a little longer to get their hands on the update. As stated on EA's website, patch five is already available to download for PC, but the console patch that will bring upgrades to the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S has yet to be given a date. Regardless, the new patch is set to bring numerous performance and stability improvements to Jedi: Survivor across all platforms, while also addressing a number of rare game breaking bugs that were preventing some players from progressing through the game. A series of graphical updates are also being implemented in...
After striking a deal with Microsoft earlier this year, Nvidia has officially announced the first slate of Xbox Game Studios titles coming to its cloud gaming service GeForce Now. In a press release, Nvidia confirmed that The Coalition's Gears 5 will be the first first-party game from Xbox Game Studios to be playable on GeForce Now. GeForce Now players subscribed to the Priority tier can stream Gears 5 at 1080p and 60FPS, with Ultimate members having the option to stream it at 4K resolution at 120FPS or 240FPS for lower latency. Additionally, Nvidia confirmed the next three games coming from the Xbox Game Studios portfolio: Arkane Lyon's Deathloop, plus Grounded and Pentiment from Obsidian Entertainment, will arrive on GeForce Now...
The Outlast Trials is a horror movie in reverse, in ways both good and bad. Instead of screaming in terror when something jumps out at you or stabs your character in the face, you usually just laugh as your friends make fun of you from their hiding spots. Instead of a clueless group of protagonists who get picked off one by one, the enemies hunting you and your teammates are the ones with the hilariously poor decision-making skills. While the early access version of this cooperative horror game proves the concept and has a couple of very memorable maps, it’s not one of those games that’s sprung into being almost fully formed. Expected bugs and general lack of polish aside, there’s just not much content yet. Even so, I had an overall...
Lords of the Fallen is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC on October 13 this year. Revealed in a gameplay reveal trailer, (an exclusive, extended version of which can be viewed above), developer Hexworks has given fans a first proper look at the Dark Souls and Elden Ring-esque game running in Unreal Engine 5. IGN's extended gameplay reveal trailer is a hefty four minutes and shares some story details too. "Mournstead has fallen, it's great army decimated by the legions of Adyr, the Demon God," reads a dramatic opening screen. "But one light still flickers in the ever-growing gloom, the light of the Dark Crusader." The trailer then slips into gameplay, showing a range of environments and enemies present in the...

Immersion Corporation has filed a lawsuit against Valve over rumble haptic technology found in the Steam Deck and Valve Index, The Verge reports. The outlet notes that Immersion filed its complaint in the Western District of Washington, citing seven patents dating back to as early as 2002. The company is accusing Valve of infringing its own patents in the company's hardware devices, the Steam Deck and Valve Index. Though the complaint also cites several video games that use the technology, including Half-Life: Alyx, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Immersion has a history of suing companies it claims have infringed on its rumble tech patents. Both Microsft and Sony have been in legal bouts with...

As Microsoft continues in its efforts to acquire Activision Blizzard and multiple regulators make their decisions on the deal, several publishers have now publicly voiced their thoughts on the situation. Among them, Take-Two Interactive, whose CEO voiced support for the acquisition today in conversation with IGN. When asked for his thoughts on the deal, CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed that Take-Two had supported the deal for some time, saying that it would be a positive for the company's partner, Microsoft: "What's good for them is also good for the industry." When the CMA's recent ruling against the deal on the basis that it could cause a potential Microsoft takeover of the cloud gaming market, Zelnick reiterated past comments he had...
Take-Two has canceled several unannounced games and quietly delayed others amid what the publisher calls a "challenging consumer backdrop." Take-Two made the announcement during today's earnings report, saying that "the development timelines of some of our titles have lengthened, especially as we strive to redefine the creative standards of excellence in our industry, which affect our release slate for the year." Take-Two will incur a $54.2 million impairment charge in the fourth quarter "related to capitalized software development costs for unreleased and canceled console and PC titles." In May 2021, Take-Two said it was aiming to release some 62 game by 2024 across a variety of formats and platforms. Delays and cancellations have...
Publisher Take-Two Interactive is gearing up for some big years on the horizon, with numerous major releases in the tank for 2024 and beyond. But in the meantime, its plans for the current fiscal year aren't too shabby either: 16 total game releases are expected, including a "new IP" from a "premier studio." In the company's earnings press release today, Take-Two revealed its plans for three "immersive core offerings" between April of this year and March of 2024. Those games include NBA 2K24 and WWE 2K24, but also include "an eagerly-anticipated new IP from one of our premier studios." It's possible this is something totally unknown and unannounced. But there are some already-revealed possibilities as well. It's entirely possible...
Sega is considering following in the footsteps of Nintendo, Ubisoft, and other publishers and start charging $70 for future titles. During a financial earnings call held towards the end of April (the translated transcript of which was spotted by VGC yesterday), Sega Sammy CEO Haruki Satomi and CFO Koichi Fukuzawa alluded to the idea of increasing the price of Sega's upcoming titles when asked why the unit sales price is set higher than usual for the upcoming fiscal year. "In the global marketplace, AAA game titles for console have been sold at $59.99 for many years, but titles sold at $69.99 have appeared in the last year," they said. "We would like to review the prices of titles that we believe are commensurate with price increases...
Publisher Take-Two Interactive may have just teased the release window for the next entry in the biggest gaming franchise of all time: Grand Theft Auto 6. It could be on the way as soon as next year. In a press release issued alongside its yearly earnings report, Take-Two shared projections for the coming years, including a massive projection for fiscal years 2025 and 2026. For context, fiscal 2025 will begin in April of 2024: While Take-Two doesn't explicitly name Grand Theft Auto here, it's hard to imagine any other franchise doing this work for them. For one, Take-Two's net bookings this past fiscal year reached $5.3 billion - a record annual high. Notably, this record was reached thanks to the contributions of Zynga, which it...
While we'll have to wait until July 5 to learn all the details of this surprise announcement, Behaviour Interactive has revealed that the actual Nicolas Cage is coming to Dead by Daylight. Dead by Daylight's Twitter confirmed the news, saying, "It's the performance of a lifetime. Dead by Daylight: Nicolas Cage. Coming to a realm near you. Learn more on July 5th." The accompanying video gives us our first look at the actor in the game, and it appears this will be a similar case to The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent where Cage is actually playing himself and not another new character in Dead by Daylight's universe. "There is nothing more powerful than imagination," Nic Cage says in the trailer. "It can shape the fabric of...
