More details about Call of Duty’s 2024 entry appear to have leaked from an actor who claims his likeness is being used for the game’s main protagonist. First spotted by Insider Gaming, actor and singer Luke Charles Stafford reportedly posted on Facebook saying that Activision is using his likeness for the main character, which he says is named “Ratcliffe,” in a Call of Duty game that is scheduled to release next year. "Activision decided to adapt their next main character, 'Ratcliffe' for Call of Duty off my face/likeness, and I am elated," Stafford reportedly said in the post, which has been screencapped but is no longer on their Facebook page. "To all of my college roommates back at Anderson University and those years in Smith...
Disclosure: Stray Gods is published by Humble Games which is owned by Ziff Davis, the parent company of IGN. Humble Bundle and IGN operate completely independently, and no special consideration is given to Humble Bundle announcements or promotions for coverage. A cascade of release date changes is currently underway as this holiday season's most-anticipated RPGs seek to avoid running into one another. The latest domino to fall is Stray Gods, the new RPG developed in part Dragon Age writer David Gaider. Originally slated to release on August 3, it has been pushed back a week to August 10. The move follows Larian Studios' decision to move the PC release of Baldur's Gate 3 in order to avoid Starfield. Stray Gods developer Summerfall...
A new court document in its ongoing battle with the FTC reveals how Microsoft believed it could use Xbox Game Pass and console sales to help offset the losses it would incur from making Starfield and Indiana Jones console exclusives. In a new document focused on the FTC's final findings of fact, the FTC cites Microsoft Gaming Chief Financial Officer Tim Stuart's testimony, stating that Microsoft had forecasted "more than 10 million" sales on PlayStation "for both Starfield and Indiana Jones," before it decided to make both games exclusive to Xbox. Microsoft announced its plans to acquire ZeniMax back in 2020, and outside of honoring the timed-exclusivity deals PlayStation previously inked with ZeniMax for timed console exclusivity...
Bungie has won close to $500,000 in damages from an individual who perpetrated a campaign of harassment and terror against a Destiny 2 community manager, and his wife, for highlighting the art of a Black community member. The judgment was issued in default to defendant Jesse James Comer, who failed to turn up to defend themselves in the superior court of the state of Washington, where the case was heard. Comer has been directed to pay Bungie $489,435.52 in damages, costs, and legal fees, with 12% post-judgment interest being added for each and every year that the sum is left unpaid. As reported by Polygon, Comer’s actions - which are detailed later in this article - gave the court multiple causes to award Bungie damages for the...
Whether it’s Snake’s elevator ascent to the rainy cliffs of Shadow Moses or the climactic battle between student and mentor in the final moments of Snake Eater, Hideo Kojima and Konami’s epic spy thriller franchise, Metal Gear, is home to some of gaming’s most iconic moments. Telling a story that spanned multiple console generations and pushed the creative capabilities of video games to their limits, Solid Snake and Big Boss’ adventures are legendary, so much so that many claim they’re among the most important releases the medium has ever produced. Back in 2015, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain seemingly ended the franchise for good, with Kojima leaving Konami and the Metal Gear Solid IP behind to form his own studio. However...
EA Sports FC 24 has finally been fully revealed, with EA revealing details around the FIFA successor's release date, pricing, Ultimate Team mode, and more. Matching leaks from earlier in July, EA Sports FC launches on September 29, 2023 as the first non-FIFA game from EA's incredibly successful soccer pedigree. Manchester City striker Erling Haaland will don the cover. It will be available in both Standard and Ultimate editions, with those who opt for the latter, more expensive version getting a week's early access starting September 22. EA also revealed that women players will be available in Ultimate Team for the first time, finally being included after the publisher has slowly but surely added women's football to its franchise...
By blending voxel worlds like the kind Minecraft uses with Valheim-inspired visuals, Enshrouded presents an intriguing survival action RPG. In a notable shift from Portal Knights, Keen Games now introduces us to Embervale, an open world corrupted by a deadly fog. Keen recently invited me to a hands-off preview presented by creative director Antony Christoulakis. Though post-apocalyptic survival games aren't exactly uncommon, this one shows promise. Playing as the Flameborn, Enshrouded tasks you with dispelling this fog and rebuilding this world from the remnants. You won't find any lengthy starting tutorials, though help can be found within your Journal if required, and Christoulakis calls this more friendly survival than Valheim. Not...
At a wedding I recently attended, I saw a scene likely familiar to many: a questionable guest drunkenly rose to give an ill-advised speech they hadn’t put any thought into, stringing together barely related anecdotes with no purpose besides fulfilling a perceived obligation. Testament: The Order of High Human reminds me a lot of that speech. This bizarre fantasy adventure is filled with bad ideas that are so poorly executed that the entire thing feels like what might happen if you explained Skyrim to someone who’d never played a video game and asked them to make one of their own from memory. The story is a convoluted, cliche bore, the combat is infuriating and repetitive, and there are so many bugs I struggled to continue on multiple...
At first glance, Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons doesn’t stand out in the pack of recent beat-‘em-up entries. Its visuals aren’t as arresting as Streets of Rage 4, the pull of yesterday’s memories of the franchise don’t tug as hard as TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge, and it doesn’t kitbash genres together as cleverly as River City Girls 2. But in the short time I've spent with it so far, DDG serves as a sort of jack-of-all-trades arcadey romp, competent in every way, with some interesting mechanical tricks and strong replay potential. I mean no shade regarding DDG’s visuals. It has a throwback, pixel art style that is a fun trip down memory lane, but not wholly unique or inspiring in and of itself. There are fun locations full of...
I believe it was Socrates who said, "I love it when a plan comes together!" Jagged Alliance 3's deep but approachable tactical combat delivers that satisfaction on just about every mission. Managing a team of memorable mercs to set up turn-based takedowns feels even better with in-depth squad customization and many viable playstyles. Its sense of humor rarely managed to make me chuckle, but that hardly mattered when I was orchestrating a beautiful symphony of destruction… or watching it all come crashing down because everyone missed an easy shot on the same turn. That makes me chuckle. The basic plot is easy to understand but not without some moral complexity: The president of the fictional West African nation of Grand Chien has been...
Valve’s 16-year-old multiplayer shooter Team Fortress 2 just broke its all-time record for concurrent Steam players following the release of a major summer update. Team Fortress 2 is currently being enjoyed by 247,449 concurrent players, making it the third most played game on the platform behind only Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (925,156) and Dota 2 (468,947) according to engagement tracking website SteamDB. This week’s figure, which is still climbing at the time of writing, dwarfs Team Fortress 2’s previous concurrent player record of 167,951 set back in December 2022. The recent surge in interest coincides with the release of a major summer update earlier this week which brought a wave of new content and tweaks to the game...
Last week’s Baldur’s Gate 3 showcase propelled the fantasy role-playing game up the Steam top-sellers list. The Panel From Hell livestream revealed players can have sex with a Druid in bear form. Clips of the cutscene went viral on social media, and even caused TikTok to pull the showcase halfway through. The Druid in question is called Halsin, an NPC and potential companion who can be rescued from a prison. Halsin can temporarily 'wildshape' into a bear, and if you play your cards right he does this during a romance cutscene. You can see it in the tweet video below: In an interview with IGN, Larian boss Swen Vincke called Baldur's Gate 3's bear sex scene “hilarious”. “Every single person who’s seen it is like, 'oh my god.' But...
Necrosmith is a lot of things. It’s a necromancer simulator; it’s a bullet hell; it’s a strategy game; it’s a tower defence game. It sounds muddled, but it’s actually not. Basically, each run kicks off with you in your tower with only a handful of skeleton body parts to your name. Each creature you make […] The post Necrosmith is a body-builders dream appeared first on Green Man Gaming Blog. Continue reading...

Your Only Move Is Hustle hit Steam back in February this year, but had been on Itch.io before that. It’s a strange prospect, because while this is undoubtedly a fighting game, it’s also turn-based, and matches can take up to thirty minutes depending on the people and characters in play. While most fighting games have […] The post Your Only Move Is Hustle is a fast-paced fighting game for those with no reaction speed appeared first on Green Man Gaming Blog. Continue reading...

With the previously PlayStation 5 exclusive Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart making its way to PC, now seems as good a time as any to take a trip down memory lane and impart a brief history of the Ratchet and Clank franchise from its humble PS2 origins to its present day incarnation. Survival horror fans, rejoice! The Super Famicom classic, Clock Tower, is getting remastered for modern consoles. In an LRG3 presentation event held by Limited Run Games today, the company confirmed that a remaster was in the works and development is a collaboration effort between Capcom, Sunsoft, WayForward, and Limited Run. This remaster also marks the first time the original Clock Tower game will see an official release outside of Japan, which up until this point only had fan translations. "Starting with River City Girls Zero, we've been bringing these Japanese-only releases to a Western audience," WayForward CEO and Founder Voldi Way said in the announcement video. Clock Tower was originally released in 1995 and is not to be...
The moment we've all been waiting for has arrived: the verdict is in for Microsoft vs. FTC, and Team Xbox has won! We spend the entire show discussing the massive implications of the ruling, which seems to have set the stage for Microsoft's $69 billion acquisition of Activision-Blizzard to finally go through. We talk about the games we might see out of it - particularly from Raven Software - the very serious matter of how Xbox boss Phil Spencer must take steps to clean up the toxic workplace culture at ABK, whether or not Microsoft (and Sony) are done making big acquisitions, and more! Gex Trilogy – a collection of Gex, Gex: Enter the Gecko, and Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko – is officially coming to modern consoles, Limited Run Games announced during a livestream today. The snarky lil gecko will be hitting the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. The stream didn’t announce a release date or show off any gameplay, but it did note that it’s being remastered with the Carbon Engine. Gex was first released all the way back in 1995 for the EDO and later ported onto the original PlayStation, the Sega Saturn, and PC. It spawned sequels in 1998 and 1999, but publisher Square Enix hasn’t released any new entries since. Fans have long hoped for a return, though. The games were...
Skyrim's prevalent modding scene is notorious in the video game industry for extending the life of one of Bethesda's greatest games. But right now, the modding landscape is surrounded by controversy because of the rise of AI-generated voice clips in mods based on real Skyrim voice actors. If that doesn't raise enough ethical questions already, some of the mods feature pornographic AI voice performances, causing backlash and outcry in the voice actor community. This issue was first reported on by GamesRadar, which called attention to Nexus Mods, a mod distributor that hosts a number of the pornographic Skyrim mods in question. When IGN reached out to Nexus Mods for comment on this story, a spokesperson simply linked to the site's...

In the year and a half since Xbox announced its intentions to acquire Activision-Blizzard for $68.7 billion way back in January of 2022, it's felt at times like we're all just kids in the backseat of a car asking, "Are we there yet?." Everyone's a little sick of hearing about it by now, but every few weeks it seems like there's a new trial, a new document, a new email, or something else to bring forward more speculation of whether or not the deal will go through. Yesterday's verdict denying the FTC’s request for a pause on the deal until its August hearing is another such moment. But after months of waiting, it seems like the answer is finally, “Yes, we’re here.” According to the analysts and legal experts I’ve spoken with in the wake...
As with a lot of sequels, Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals sticks with what works. The first Oxenfree became an instant favorite because it’s a horror game about being on the edge, both literally and metaphorically. It centers on teens on the cusp of adulthood battling terrifying ghosts trapped on the boundary of reality between space and time. Those were two edges that worked extremely well together, especially with time-travel elements that make possible futures and outcomes feel more real. In some ways, Lost Signals feels familiar to the point of being somewhat repetitive, but it still goes just a bit further. You have a similar array of secrets to uncover, dialogue to engage in, and choices to make that can drastically impact the ending and...
Eventually inflation comes for us all, and Xbox gamers are not immune. With Starfield coming out September 6, Microsoft recently raised the price of Game Pass Ultimate to $16.99 per month. Thankfully, during the Prime Day 2023 sale, Amazon is leaning the other direction. Right now you can get three months of Game Pass Ultimate for $39.99. That’s $11 less than you’d have to pay if you got it directly from Microsoft. It’s not even technically a Prime Day deal, so it’s available to everyone. Game Pass Ultimate Deal Yes, Starfield is coming to Game Pass Ultimate at launch. Forza Motorsport is another big first-party game coming to the service in October. And there are already well over 100 games on the service you can download and play to...
Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells is retiring at the end of the year, leaving Neil Druckmann to fully take the reins of one of the PlayStation's best-known studios. In a message published on Naughty Dog's officiate site, Wells talked about his 30 year career in games and praised Druckmann, saying that he's "incredibly confident" that he's leaving the studio in "the best hands." "This is something that I’ve been discussing with Naughty Dog’s Studio Leadership Team for well over a year, and with Neil for even longer than that," Wells wrote. "The decision brings with it overwhelming and conflicting emotions, but I’ve come to realize that I’m content with my time at the studio and all that we’ve accomplished together over the last 25...
At the heart of the multiple ongoing legal challenges to Xbox's acquisition of Activision Blizzard, one core theme has cropped up again and again: will Xbox take Call of Duty exclusive if the deal is done? Xbox has repeatedly said no both verbally and in writing, and according to a judge in the recent FTC v. Microsoft trial, that attitude has been consistent even in Microsoft's most secretive, internal documentation. Today, Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley issued her decision on the Federal Trade Commission's move for a preliminary injunction on the merger, which would have stopped it from completing as scheduled next week until it could be brought to a hearing in August. And in that ruling, she revealed that Xbox is remarkably...
Microsoft just held its latest ID@Xbox showcase highlighting a slew of indie games that will make their way onto Xbox platforms. While this is not saying all these games will be console exclusive, Xbox wanted to highlight just a handful of some of the many wonderful indie titles that its fans can look forward to in the future. If you missed the showcase, don't worry; here's a roundup of all the games that appeared at the event. Plus five games that stood out. Stray Souls Announced in 2021, Stray Souls is an upcoming indie horror game from Jukai Studio and one of a handful of games that will use Unreal Engine 5. Stray Souls follows Daniel, a teenager who recently inherited a house from his grandmother. As my colleague Ryan McCaffrey...
The developer of Battalion 1944 has announced all Kickstarter backers will get a full refund regardless of platform, pledge tier, or time played in the game. In an unusual move, Bulkhead Interactive said all 10,096 backers, who had collectively pledged £317,281 to help bring the World War 2-themed first-person shooter to life, will receive refund instructions via email. Battalion 1944 was Bulkhead’s first multiplayer game, and was made by a team of 18 people in just 19 months. While it enjoyed a strong early access launch in 2019, with a number of high-profile streamers bigging it up, Battalion 1944 suffered a significant drop-off soon after. Bulkhead was acquired by fellow UK developer Splash Damage in December, and it’s Splash...
