After teasing something last month, PDP officially announced the Riffmaster, a new wireless guitar controller releasing this Spring. The PDP Riffmaster has two configurations: one compatible with the Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One, while the other works on PS4 and PS5. As you can see from the images below, at first glance, it looks similar to plastic guitar controllers made at the height of Guitar Hero and Rock Band's popularity. But a closer examination reveals some noticeable changes to the formula. Most notably, the Riffmaster has a thumbstick behind the guitar, an ambidextrous design, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a promised battery life of 36 hours on a single charge. Riffmaster's disassembly, meanwhile, is pretty unique. Instead of...
Square Enix is absorbing Tokyo RPG Factory, a studio that was dedicated to replicating the “golden age” of RPGs from the 90s. According to Gamebiz.jp, Square Enix will acquire all of the rights and obligations of Tokyo RPG Factory, and the studio will effectively be dissolved. Tokyo RPG Factory was founded in 2014 and its internal structure relied on freelancers and volunteer staff from other departments within Square Enix. The studio released its first game, I Am Setsuna, in 2016, then followed up with Lost Sphear in 2017 and Oninaki in 2019. Respectively, the three games were themed after the Japanese concept, “snow, moon, and flowers,” representing seasons of the year. After Oninaki’s release, Tokyo RPG Factory discussed what its...
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 is back with a fresh look at gameplay following its move to Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture developer The Chinese Room. In the video, we see player character Phyre engage in combat from the upcoming first-person action RPG sequel, due out fall 2024 on PC, Xbox Series X and S, and PlayStation 5. In the video we see an early-game mission in which Phyre infiltrates an abandoned warehouse to uncover clues about the mysterious mark on their hand. The combat involves stealth-focused gameplay and plenty of blood-sucking, as you’d expect. But when the action kicks off proper, we see just how punchy Phyre can be. We’re then treated to a rather disturbing cutscene in which Phyre confronts the court's...
For years, skill-based matchmaking (SBMM) has been the hottest of topics within the Call of Duty community, with some proclaiming it ruins the experience, others saying quite the opposite. High-skilled Call of Duty players often bemoan SBMM for chucking them into what they call “sweaty” lobbies full of similarly high-skilled players. All the while, Activision has remained silent on how exactly Call of Duty’s SBMM actually works — until now. In a blog post, which is “starting the conversation about matchmaking in Call of Duty”, Activision pulled back the curtain on SBMM for the first time, and gave players plenty to chew on. According to Activision, Call of Duty does consider skill (or more specifically player performance) as a...
Granblue Fantasy Versus may have introduced an entirely new fanbase to Gran's grand adventure in 2020, but as a fan of the mobile RPGs before it, I came into Granblue Fantasy: Relink with very different expectations. Finally making the jump from phones to PC and PlayStation, the series has embraced exhilarating real-time action that feels right at home alongside other ambitious story-driven games like Final Fantasy XVI or Star Ocean: The Divine Force. But its clear mobile roots are a double-edged sword – the storytelling may be tighter and less bloated than its contemporaries, but other parts just don’t feel quite up to snuff for a game of this scale. Still, Granblue Fantasy: Relink’s fun combat and charming characters have kept me...
Sega of America is laying off 61 staff on March 8, 2024 as job losses continue to devastate the video game industry. As reported by GI.biz, the employees affected currently work across two locations at Sega's Irvine, California campus, with 12 being laid off from one office and 49 from another. The job losses come just a few months after workers at Sega of America voted to unionise under the Communications Workers of America, forming AEGIS-CWA. According to this group, who made a series of posts on X/Twitter in response to the layoffs, workers across quality assurance and localisation departments were affected. "A few months ago, Sega management announced their plan to outsource QA and part of localization in a move that would...
In a world where we're being bombarded by constant hype about AI, getting to mow down some chrome-plated baddies is kind of cathartic. Playing through the first several missions of Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance, I found myself leading a ragtag band of human survivors trying to evade hostile machines in a slightly clunky but overall competent squad-based RTS. And there are some interesting ideas glimmering in the gaps beneath its synthetic flesh. A bit of wiki diving revealed that Definace is set in something called the "Dark Fate" timeline, which was apparently established as an alternate reality through time travel shenanigans in the 2019 film of that name. I grew up on the classic Terminator films, but I haven't kept up with any...
The developer of Palworld has warned people against downloading fake mobile phone games that look like they’re Palworld. In a tweet, Palworld developer Pocketpair said “there is no Palworld application for phones”, after noticing apps using names and product images from Palworld had popped up on the App Store and Google Play. “They are not affiliated with our company in any way,” the statement continued. “We have reported this issue to Apple, which operates the App Store, and Google, which operates Google Play. Please be aware that downloading these apps may lead to the leakage of personal information stored on your smartphone or to fraud.” It’s perhaps unsurprising to see fake Palworld mobile apps appear given the enormous sales...
CD Projekt Red has released patch 2.11 for Cyberpunk 2077, addressing myriad bugs and balance issues in its open-world role-playing game. Released on its website, the patch notes "focused on fixing the most common issues encountered by players, including finisher animations, and added a little something for Rayfield enthusiasts". Update 2.1 added a ton of new features to the game, on top of the already colossal Update 2.0, so a lot of this latest patch, available now for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC, looks to address smaller issues baked in with them. Melee finishers, dashes turning into crouches, and wrongly upgrading items have all been fixed among other issues. CD Projekt Red has also adjusted the frequency of car...
Warner Bros. has gifted Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Deluxe Edition owners $20 of in-game currency as a make-good for server issues that rendered the always-online game unplayable for periods during launch. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League arrived on January 30, 2024 for those who paid $100 for the Deluxe Edition, granting customers a three days’ head start over everyone else. But the early launch had issues, including a bizarre bug that automatically completed Suicide Squad for some and forced the game offline for more than six hours. Additional downtime prevented players from logging on before the servers stabilized, but not before disgruntled customers complained about not getting their money’s worth. Now, Warner...
The Witcher Remake developer Fool's Theory isn't afraid to change aspects of CD Projekt Red's original which are "bad, outdated, and need to be remade". Speaking to Edge magazine via GamesRadar, Fool's Theory CEO Jakub Rokosz made clear not every part of 2007's The Witcher will appear in the highly anticipated remake, though didn't give any specifics as to what will and won't make the cut. "First and foremost, we need an honest, down to earth analysis of which parts are simply bad, outdated, and need to be remade," Rokosz said. Fool's Theory will simultaneously be "highlighting the parts that are great, should be retained, or are direct key pillars that can't be discarded." The original Witcher game is somewhat outdated in places...
Persona 3: Reload Removes an Infamously Transphobic Line of Dialogue
Warning: The below story contains a potential spoiler for Persona 3 and Persona 3: Reload. The Persona series has long had issues with gay and trans panic, but Persona 3: Reload at least removes the transphobia from one scene in particular. The Persona 3 scene in question had the party trying to hit on women at the beach, with Akihiko, Junpei, and the protagonist approaching a character referred to as "Beautiful Lady." After some back-and-forth, Akihiko points out a bit of facial hair on her chin, to which Beautiful Lady responds, "I-I missed a spot?!" Junpei then exclaims "she's a he?!" The dialogue is very slightly changed in Persona 3 Portable (the character is named "Pretty Lady" instead of "Beautiful Lady"), but still includes...
Destiny 2 director Joe Blackburn is stepping down following the release of The Final Shape, the upcoming expansion slated to release in June. Blackburn, who among other things has served as Destiny's Lead Raid Designer, says the time has come to "pass the torch" as he heads "on a new adventure outside the walls of Bungie." "As a deeply invested Guardian before starting here at Bungie, getting to be a part of the Destiny 2 team has been the privilege of a lifetime," Blackburn said. "I am and will forever remain a lifelong Bungie fan and believer in what the teams within its walls are capable of." Blackburn will be replaced by Tyson Green, a Halo player-versus-player veteran who helped create Exotic weapons in the original Destiny and...
Though wild speculation around metaverses has calmed somewhat in the last year, the idea is far from dead, with a number of companies still hard at work trying to find ways to integrate all their properties into one massive, interconnected space. The latest to discuss these ideas is Electronic Arts, with CEO Andrew Wilson responding to a question during today's earnings call about a potential EA Sports metaverse with what sounds a heck of a lot like a concrete plan to make one in the near future. During the Q&A portion, Wilson was asked if he had ever thought about "taking all of your siloed sport communities and thinking about a way to bring them all together" to "just sort of create, for lack of a better word, a metaverse?" To...
Following Kevin Conroy's death in 2022, it's been widely assumed the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League would mark the last time we heard the actor reprise his famous role as the Caped Crusader. But, while Kill the Justice League is indeed his final video game voice appearance as the character, he has two other posthumous performances coming up in Batman film and television, IGN has learned from a source with knowledge of the situation. One of them will be in Bruce Timm's Batman: Caped Crusader, an upcoming animated series that was picked up by Prime Video. While we've confirmed that Conroy did record for the show before his death, we're not entirely sure if he'll be voicing Batman specifically. The other, however - Justice...
Yesterday, IGN reported that Spec Ops: The Line had been delisted from Steam. Today, we updated that story with reporting that the game had also disappeared from other digital storefronts, including Fanatical, Gamesplanet, and Nuuvem. And now, we have confirmation from 2K themselves: one of the most important video games of the Xbox 360 and PS3 generation is disappearing from online storefronts for good. 2K Games sent IGN the following statement confirming The Line's delisting: While 2K hasn't provided specifics as to what partnerships are expiring, Spec Ops: The Line contains several pieces of licensed music, including Jimmy Hendrix's iconic rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. Expiring music licenses have been the reason for...
After a brief time in Steam Beta, a significant update for Starfield in 2024 is now live, and one of the most significant changes coming to the update focuses on improving the lighting for in-game locations. Spotted by various members on ResetEra and Reddit, Starfield's Update 1.9.51.0 makes some tweaks to lighting. Specifically, the patch notes mention that Bethesda Game Studios has improved lighting at 73 locations. While it does not go into specifics, Starfield players online have begun posting before and after the update was installed in several locations. Most notably, Reddit user DinDisco posted a gallery of these images showing what Starfield looked like in a few locations before and after. Pictures of specific areas, such as...

Corsair MP600 Core Mini 2TB SSD for Steam Deck or ROG Ally for $169.99 Both the ASUS ROG Ally and the Steam Deck utilize a smaller SSD than the standard M.2 2280 SSD that you might find in a gaming PC or a PlayStation 5 console. Fulll spoilers for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League to follow! Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is now available for those with Early Access and there is one scene in particular with Batman that is making a lot of fans very upset. This is your last spoiler warning! The scene in question takes place after the first two Justice League members are taken down and our favorite band of villains have captured Batman. The Dark Knight, who is being mind controlled by Brainiac, starts attempting to break down each character before Harley steps in and tells him to, "get some new material, jerk off." After a back and forth between the two, Batman asks Harley if she is done with her "bad stand up routine." In response, Harley says...
Kurt Russell has opened up about why he didn’t voice Solid Snake (or any of the Snakes) in Hideo Kojima’s original Metal Gear Solid, responding to rumors that he was offered the role. The Escape from New York and The Thing actor spilled the beans during an interview with GQ. He says he’s “a movie guy,” adding that, for him, it’s important to work on new characters rather than trying to provide new takes on old ones. “There have been many different times when people wanted to do something. I don’t know. I’m a movie guy,” Russell said. “You’ve got to understand that, from my point of view, whether it’s Elvis, or Snake Plissken, or Jack Burton, or R.J. MacReady, that was that project. That was that thing. You get into that mindset. You...

Earlier on Tuesday, Bungie announced a collaboration with EA for a Destiny 2 Mass Effect crossover event on February 13. The event will let players "join the crew of the Normandy" and deck out their guardians in Mass Effect armor and in-game items. "The Normandy Crew Bundle will be available at the Eververse store in-game and will include a Commander Shepard-inspired N7 armor set for Titans, a Garrus-inspired Vakarian set for Hunters, and a Liara-inspired Shadow Broker set for Warlocks," Bungie wrote in a press release. "In celebration of the partnership, all players will be able to claim the Alliance Requisitions Bundle, including the Enhanced Defense Ghost Shell, Alliance Scout Frigate ship, and Alliance Drop Ship Sparrow, which...
While it was announced back in 2018 that Duncan Jones would be directing a Rogue Trooper movie, the new announcement of the animated film’s full cast finally makes it concrete that the classic 2000 AD character is coming to our screens. But if your only knowledge of the long-running British sci-fi comic is Judge Dredd, then you may need a little primer to get you ready for Rogue Trooper’s unique brand of pulpy war drama. Who is Rogue Trooper, and why is he one of science-fiction’s coolest blue people? Let’s break down the history of this tragic war hero and how the film may tell his story. We’ll cover: Who is Rogue Trooper? What is a Genetic Infantryman? The Quartz Zone Massacre The Traitor General Mr. Brass and Mr. Bland Venus...
Visions of Mana isn't coming to Xbox Game Pass after all despite the official website saying it would. A Microsoft spokesperson told Eurogamer that mentions of Visions of Mana on the Xbox Game Pass website were just a mistake, confirming the incoming action role playing game will not be available on the subscription service. "We're aware that Xbox.com included language that indicated Visions of Mana was coming to Xbox Game Pass and can confirm this was an error," the spokesperson said. "While we are always updating the library and looking for new ways to provide members with value and choice, we do not have plans to bring Visions of Mana to Game Pass at this time." Visions of Mana, which is set to launch sometime in the summer of...
Dragon Quest Builders is finally coming to PC via Steam, eight years after it launched on PlayStation and Xbox. A Steam page for the long thought forgotten game appeared alongside an imminent release date of February 13, 2024, meaning PC players can explore its Minecraft meets Dragon Quest style role playing game mechanics very soon. "The beloved block-building RPG, Dragon Quest Builders, is bringing its handy crafting features to Steam," its description reads. "Weave your own tale as you build your own unique buildings and towns to restore Alefgard to it's former glory." Developer Square Enix neglected to release a PC version of the game when it launched on January 28, 2016, but did release its sequel, the aptly titled Dragon...
There's a timelessness to Persona 3 – its story of confronting death with imperfect courage and carrying on in the face of tragedy left an everlasting impact on me when I first played it on PS2, even as RPGs evolved and the Persona series continued to grow. As I've gotten older and experienced the very things it's about, I've grown to cherish the earnestness of its message, the way it's framed, and the characters who embody these struggles even more. That makes it easy for me to get caught up in the hype of Persona 3 Reload, but it also sets the bar as high as Tartarus as this remake tries to recapture the magic of its original versions. But after spending 70 hours playing through it, I can no longer imagine Persona 3 without Reload...
Everything We Know About Indiana Jones and The Great Circle
Earlier this month, the inaugural Xbox Developer Direct gave us our first proper look at gameplay from Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which is coming to Xbox and PC later this year. Developed by MachineGames (Wolfenstein: The New Order), The Great Circle is a first-person action-adventure game boasting an original narrative set between the events of the first and third Indiana Jones movies, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Way back in January 2021, when it was first revealed that Bethesda had partnered with Lucasfilm Games to work on an Indiana Jones project, a short video teaser was released that I pored over on then-Twitter. I collated my findings into a trailer breakdown, and in the spirit of...
I'm going to interrupt our usual price-slash programming to issue a PSA. It seems that Spec Ops: The Line has been delisted from Steam today, and there's a good to fair chance it might go the same way on MS Store (a presumption on my behalf). It's an uncommonly special third-person shooter that deserves to be owned. I've found some third-party store stock that can be yours while it lasts. In retro news, it's been 10 years since we went undercover in the human world as a cephalopodtriarch. Deliberately awful to control and amazing because of it, Octodad is still the best slapstick afternoon you can have this side of a Three Stooges binge. More so if you can recruit three mates to each control a limb of this accident-prone papa in his...

Spec Ops: The Line is one of the most important games of the seventh console generation, but playing it on PC just got a little harder. The acclaimed military shooter was delisted from Steam without warning today, though it is still available on other PC storefronts and Xbox, where it is backwards compatible. The removal was first spotted by Wario64, who drew attention to the delisting on X/Twitter. If you navigate to The Line's Steam page, you'll be unable to purchase the game and see a notice saying, "Spec Ops: The Line is no longer available on the Steam store." It's not unsual for games to delisted from Steam, but it does stand out given Spec Ops: The Line's critical acclaim and historical significance. The Line's infamous white...
