Sid Meier's Civilization 7 appeared during Opening Night Live to help kick off gamescom 2024 with a first-look gameplay trailer and a release date. Firaxis’ strategy sequel launches February 11, 2025 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, with the deluxe edition including five days of early access (what amounts to an effective release date of February 6). Based on the new trailer, Civilization 7 features a more grounded art style than the divisive Civilization 6 look. We loved Civilization 6 when it came out back in 2016, saying it would "go down in history as the most fully-featured launch version in the series." Though the series has changed leadership hands a number of...
Genshin Impact is coming to Xbox, according to an announcement during gamescom Opening Night Live today. In a new trailer, we got another look at the upcoming new nation, Natlan, which is planned to arrive in the 5.0 update on August 28. The trailer showed off new characters such as the shark surfboarder Mualani, Kinich, and Kachina, as well as various locations in Natlan. It's nothing we didn't know about already, but it was nice to get a new perspective on the nation ahead of release. But the big news is that Genshin Impact is finally coming to Xbox Series consoles on November 20. This is huge news - up until now, it's only been available on PC and PlayStation, and while a Switch port was announced pre-launch, four years later...
Back in 2022, ARC Raiders revealed itself as a co-op shooter with stylishly post-apocalyptic guerillas fighting robotic attackers that rained from the sky onto their ruined world. We haven't heard much since. Now, developer Embark Studios is back, telling us that two years of development have refined its free to play co-op shooter into a PvPvE extraction shooter instead. It's still a game where teams of scavengers hit the surface world hunting for the things their underground colonies need amid robotic occupation… but now they're competing with any other scavengers that get in their way. Also new: ARC Raiders will release in 2025 with a $40 price tag. "Years back we announced [ARC Raiders] as a co-op only game," said executive...
During the Opening Night Live showcase for Gamescom 2024, the upcoming survival MMO action game Dune Awakening had a lengthy gameplay walkthrough trailer. It's highly anticipated given it's set in the Dune universe, but also because it has left a good first impression when we saw Dune Awakening in March of this year. The new gameplay trailer showed the character creator and early goings of assaulting deserter bases, climbing cliffs, and basic strategies such as melee combat and the shooting mechanics. We also saw what it's like to build your own bases and the advantages of it like using blood purifiers to cleanse enemy blood to extract water which is key for survival. Additionally, you can save blueprints of your structures and sell...

The announcement was made at gamescom Opening Night Live, with Embark Studios also revealing that playtesting will begin this fall. You can watch the latest teaser for ARC Raiders below. ARC Raiders, from former Battlefield and Star Wars: Battlefront developers, was first announced at the 2021 Game Awards, with Embark Studios saying at the time that it would be headed to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S in 2022. Shortly after, however, the studio delayed the game to 2023. It was also revealed in 2023 that the game had shifted from a co-op PvP game to a "PvPvE survival extraction shooter." The game made quite an impression with...
Lost Records: Bloom & Rage, the new game from the creators of Life is Strange, has revealed two release dates as well as a gameplay trailer at Opening Night Live. Don’t Nod’s upcoming narrative adventure game launches in two parts on PC, Xbox Series X and S, and PlayStation 5 on February 18 (Tape 1) and March 18, 2025 (Tape 2). The trailer offers a look into the gameplay of Lost Records: Bloom & Rage, including the navigation between the dual timelines of 1995 and 2022, using Swann’s camcorder to film her summer while making dialogue choices in the game. We see the dynamic dialogue system, which can change based on where you look and what you say. Players can choose to ignore and interrupt other characters, which makes...
After a pretty on-the-nose tease from Geoff Keighley, Techland has officially revealed a new Dying Light game at Gamescom Opening Night Live, entitled Dying Light: The Beast. As seen in the trailer, The Beast features the return of protagonist Kyle Crane, and features a new open world region and 20 hours of gameplay. According to a press release, The Beast is a full standalone game set in the post-apocalyptic Castor Woods. The player, as Kyle Crane (voiced once more by Roger Craig Smith), escapes after being held captive and experimented on for 13 years following his previous appearances in the series. Now free, he seeks revenge on those who help them captive. The titular "beast" is a massive monster roaming the woods...but Crane...
2014’s Goat Simulator is set for the remastered treatment. Goat Simulator famously lets players run around town as a goat, exploring a sandbox fun house and causing all sorts of trouble. Goat Simulator Remastered includes new and improved visuals but, developer Coffee Stain said, all the “beloved” in-game bugs from the original remain. The trailer below has some fun referencing these bugs. Meanwhile, the remaster also includes every DLC from Goat Simulator, as well as one DLC previously exclusive to the mobile version. Here’s the official blurb: Goat Simulator Remastered reworks mutators, letting players choose whichever "goat" they want to play as from an in-game menu. This means there’s no more restarting the game to change...
Activision has shown off the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 campaign during Opening Night Live, kicking off gamescom 2024 in the process. After the criticism the campaign for Modern Warfare 3 received last year, the pressure was on Black Ops 6 campaign developer Raven Software to deliver with this follow-up to Black Ops Cold War. This time, the action is set in the early 1990s, a period of transition and upheaval in global politics, characterized by the end of the Cold War and the rise of the United States as a single superpower. The trailer revealed Black Ops 6's new omnimovement feature, with the player throwing a knife from behind cover in a back prone position. The mission on show is called Most Wanted, in which the rogue team needs...

Note: All names of places, characters, and items mentioned in the article come from the original novel and do not necessarily indicate that they will appear in the game. With the release of Black Myth: Wukong on PC and PS5, it’s important to know that this game is adapted from the ancient Chinese mythological novel "Journey to the West," written in 1592. This novel is also the source of inspiration for the famous Japanese manga "Dragon Ball." For Chinese players, "Journey to the West" is a household name known to all, but for Western players, it may be somewhat unfamiliar. Perhaps you only know the name of the protagonist, Sun Wukong, but are unaware of the wider characters and stories in the novel. Playing Black Myth: Wukong without...
Nvidia, one of the tech companies leading the AI arms race, continues to find new ways to implement artificial intelligence. Today, the company announced that its AI-powered system, ACE, will make its gaming debut next year. In a blog post, Nvidia confirmed that Seasun Games' upcoming action project, Mecha BREAK, will be the first game to use this new AI-powered system. Nvidia ACE was revealed by Nvidia co-founder and CEO Jensen Huang at Computex 2023, and will fuse gaming and AI in a new way by using generative AI (GenAI) in NPCs to make them more interactive than possible. Nvidia notes in the blog post that thanks to ACE, Mecha BREAK players can "interact via natural language" with the in-game NPCs. In a demo provided by Nvidia...
Final Fantasy 16 director Hiroshi Takai has said future games in the franchise will "likely" come to PC at launch as publisher Square Enix pursues its multiplatform strategy. Takai was asked by GamesRadar if future Final Fantasy games would come to PC day one, and replied with not a definitive answer but certainly a suggestive one. "I think it's possible," he said. "Probably even likely." Final Fantasy 16 was originally a PlayStation 5 exclusive but was finally officially announced for PC after a lot of back and forth, with a September 17, 2024 release date. Producer Naoki Yoshida previously hinted it could come to other platforms too, but nothing has been announced yet. Square Enix is eager to double down on multiplatform releases...
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 is delayed once again as its troubled development continues. The Seattle-set vampire game was due out fall 2024 but will now launch in the first half of 2025 across PC, Xbox Series X and S, and PlayStation 5. In a statement attributed to Mattias Lilja, deputy CEO for publisher Paradox Interactive, and Alex Skidmore, creative director at developer The Chinese Room, which took over development duties after original studio Hardsuit Labs was ditched, the delay was attributed to Paradox’s “commitment to delivering high-quality games to our players.” Paradox has recently canceled a number of in-development games and shut down studios as part of a rethink following what it has admitted were various...
Sony is removing Horizon: Forbidden West from the PlayStation Plus Games Catalog soon despite it wholly owning the game itself. The PlayStation 5 now shows Horizon: Forbidden West as one of 12 "Last Chance to Play" titles on its PlayStation Plus Games Catalog page, alongside other heavy hitters Marvel's Midnight Suns, Alien Isolation, NieR Replicant Ver. 1.22474487139, and Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2. Also leaving soon, on an unannounced date, is Spiritfarer, Cloudpunk, and five Star Ocean games: The Divine Force, Integrity and Faithlessness, Till the End of Time, The Last Hope, and First Departure R. The removal of Horizon: Forbidden West is particularly surprising, however. It's normal for games to come and go from subscription...
When F-Zero rose from the dead in 2023’s September Nintendo Direct, no one was more surprised than the man who designed Captain Falcon over three decades ago. Ex-Nintendo designer Takaya Imamura was with the company for over 30 years, with credits on all-time classics like The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, Star Fox 64, and F-Zero. But when F-Zero 99 launched on Nintendo Switch last year, it was the first entry in the franchise without Imamura’s input, and the creator admits he wouldn’t have thought of the 99-player online direction for the series. “The first thing I thought was really that if I'd still been at Nintendo, I don't think I'd have been able to take this approach to it.,” Imamura says. “So I was really surprised that...

Microsoft has announced the second wave of games coming to Xbox Game Pass in August 2024, which also includes access to the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 open beta. Atlas Fallen is perhaps the biggest full title of this wave as an open world action role-playing game set. Available August 22, players can explore a vast desert and fight terrible beasties in a reworked campaign which arrived alongside the Reign of Sand update. "Atlas Fallen is a solid open-world action RPG with plenty of platforming and large monsters to fight with a co-op buddy, so long as neither of you cares about story or is a stickler for high-quality textures," IGN said in our 7/10 launch review. Available on August 27 is Core Keeper, where players take on the role...
Activision’s cease and desist that resulted in the cancelation of Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer mod H2M just hours before its release claimed it would have “taken away” from the efforts of Call of Duty’s developers. Last week, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered mod H2M, which sought to revive Modern Warfare 2 (2009) multiplayer on PC and had enjoyed huge interest as a result, was canceled on the eve of its launch after its developers received a cease and desist letter from Activision. Watchful Wolf, project lead and the person who received the cease and desist via email, subsequently published a video to YouTube in which he claimed that the reasoning behind the takedown detailed in the cease and desist had to do with affecting...
Dark Horse and Crystal Dynamics are joining forces for another impressive Tomb Raider collectible. Fresh off revealing the Tomb Raider: Lara Croft (Classic Era) PVC Statue, Dark Horse is back with a new piece inspired by the Tomb Raider reboot games. One Skyrim player has taken the real life, three hour walk from Riften to Solitude by hooking up step tracking technology to the game. YouTuber ShakeMistake uploads videos which combine fitness and gaming and through the Stepl app was (eventually) able to enjoy a nature walk through the world of Skyrim. ShakeMistake first took off from Riften's north gate but, not knowing the landscape particularly well, took many wrong turns and didn't get very far. He had god mode enabled and enemy detection turned off, meaning nothing would interrupt the run, but there were still challenges. He then used the Clairvoyance spell to navigate his way through Skyrim but it took him to the College of Winterhold instead, even after setting his map...
The developer of massive Steam hit Black Myth: Wukong has apologized for any tech or performance issues players have encountered since the game went on sale in the early hours of this morning. Game Science took to Black Myth: Wukong’s Steam page to issue a statement promising patches aimed at these performance issues. In the statement, Game Science warned that “despite multiple internal full-process tests of Black Myth: Wukong, given the game's vast scale and the myriad of software and hardware environments, occasional serious issues may still arise.” “We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” Game Science continued. IGN’s Black Myth: Wukong review returned an 8/10. We said: “Despite some frustrating technical...
Miss the days of flipping through a game manual on the ride home? Tunic captures that nostalgia perfectly. The charm of discovering all the little extras included in the Tunic physical edition especially makes it worth picking up over the digital version. And with the price currently down to just $30 at Best Buy ($20 off) for Switch, and PS4/PS5, it’s a deal that’s hard to pass up. If you’re looking for a game that feels like a throwback in all the best ways, Tunic won’t disappoint. Inside you'll find: Tunic for Nintendo Switch Full-length staple-bound manual...
Black Myth: Wukong has enjoyed an enormous launch on Steam, where it has overtaken Cyberpunk 2077 to become the most-played single-player game ever on Valve’s platform. The action RPG, developed by Chinese studio Game Science, launched in the early hours of this morning and quickly shot to the top of Steam’s most-played games list with an incredible 1,443,570 peak concurrent players. That figure will surely grow as the working week heads into the weekend and more people buy the game. Less than 24 hours after launch, Black Myth: Wukong has already seen the fourth-highest concurrent figure ever on Steam, and is only behind PUBG (3,257,248), Palworld (2,101,867), and Valve’s own Counter-Strike 2 (1,818,773). It is ahead of big hitters...
Before you know it, it'll be time to blast off to a galaxy far, far away. You may as well achieve this via a low, low price, thanks to the cheapest discounts I can find on Star Wars Outlaws. I'm also tracking a bunch of wallet-worthy sales on Steam, including some criminally good Mafia deals and Ukranian-dev-centric bargains. In retro news, I’m celebrating the 21st birthday of Rainbow Six 3: Black Arrow, an OG Xbox classic. For the few of us that had Internet decent enough to use Xbox Live 3.0, this terrorist hunting sequel/glorified expansion was boss. Offline was ok, too, thanks to tense split-screen co-op/solo missions where teammate coordination was key and death was often one bullet away. Any remastering of this (or the Vegas...
