gamescom 2024 is in full swing, with some of the biggest video game announcements of the year already making their way out of the event. The show kicked off with Opening Night Live yesterday, and we've already received a ton of exciting news and game reveals from the show. The original Dying Light’s story ended with protagonist Kyle Crane suffering a miserable fate; either blasted to atoms by a nuclear bomb or twisted into an infected. But that, it turns out, wasn’t the end of his story. Techland’s new entry in the series, Dying Light: The Beast, appears to lock in the latter of those endings as canon, revealing Crane was held captive for 13 years, subjected to experiments by a villain known only as The Baron. Now free, Crane seeks revenge for the trials and tortures that have turned him into the titular beast. But, if what I’ve seen of this new Dying Light is representative of the entire game, it’s not the beast powers that change the game – it’s the guns.

Inzoi, The Sims competitor from PUBG developer Krafton, is drawing in a lot of new fans through its character creator demo, which shows off its ultra realistic graphics.
Krafton has deployed the same strategy as the likes of Dragon's Dogma 2 and others by releasing the character creator portion of its game early. The Inzoi: Character Studio currently available on Steam will only be there for a few days, however, until August 25 at 9pm Pacific.
The full version of Inzoi is expected in late 2024 and is described as "a life simulation game where players become gods within the game, allowing them to change everything as they wish and experience endless new stories in various forms of life."

gamescom 2024 got off to a big start with the reveal of Borderlands 4, the next game in Gearbox’s looter shooter series, during Opening Night Live. The announcement came via a teaser trailer, below, that on face value offers little insight into what to expect when the game launches in 2025. Secret Level is an anthology series coming to Amazon Prime Video, and it brings several games to animated form to tell new short stories for those games. The series was finally revealed with a teaser trailer during Gamescom's Opening Night Live showcase. It comes from Blur Studio, the creators of Love, Death, and Robots, which is another animated anthology series that was well-received. Bringing that ethos to video game stories is what Secret Level sets out to do and it will release on December 10.

Marvel Rivals is set to launch on December 6, 2024. The release date was revealed today at Opening Night Live during Gamescom 2024, along with a new gameplay trailer featuring Captain America, The Winter Soldier, and a massive Doctor Doom moving chess pieces on a cosmic scale.
Coming from developer NetEase, Marvel Rivals is a 6v6 hero shooter in the same vein as Overwatch, with many of Marvel's finest heroes and villians slinging powers to achieve team-based objectives.
