It's official. The Last of Us Part 2 is coming to PC on April 3, 2025, as we learned via a trailer at The Game Awards 2024. Yup, that's The Last of Us Part 2! It joins a growing tradition of Sony releasing its first-party exclusives on PC several years after their launch, which includes Horizon: Zero Dawn, Ghost of Tsushima, Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart, and God of War (2018). Earlier this year, reliable leaker Billbil-kun suggested that The Last of Us Part 2 would be the next PlayStation exclusive to join them, and even that development on it was wrapped up. However, it was speculated that its release had been held back to coincide with the 2025 release of season to of HBO's The Last of Us show...which seems to have been an...
In one of the starrier announcements of the night, Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul and prolific voice actor Laura Bailey took The Game Awards stage to reveal Dispatch, a game with a pretty stacked cast. Along with Paul and Bailey, the voice cast also includes Jeffrey Wright, Erin Yvette, Jacksepticeye, Moistcr1tikal, Alanah Pearce, Travis Willingham, Joel Haver, Lance Cantstopolis, Matthew Mercer, and Thot Squad — so, notably, a solid mix of traditional Hollywood actors and video game- and streaming-adjacent talent. Dispatch comes from AdHoc Studio, which was founded by several former Telltale Games devs. It'll arrive sometime in 2025. We didn't learn too much from the announcement, but from the looks of things, the Telltale DNA is...
Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead has announced and released the long-awaited Illuminate update, dubbed Omens of Tyranny. Unveiled during The Game Awards 2024, Helldivers 2 has expanded to herald the Illuminate invasion of Super Earth planets in the galactic south. This initial alien force brings with it a number of new enemies to fight against as well as brand new Super Earth colonies to fight on. These colonies introduce Helldivers 2’s first urban environments, with city streets packed with innocent civilians who are mind-controlled by the Illuminate. The Voteless, as they’re called by Super Earth, are little more than zombies who want nothing more than to team players limb from limb. In an interview with IGN, game director Mikael...
In an incredible surprise no one saw coming, a big orchestra and a man with a big drum took the stage at The Game Awards 2024 to reveal Hideki Kamiya's studio's new game. And it's not an new IP - much to our delight, it's an actual, real sequel to Okami. Okami 2. We didn't see much of what Okami 2 actually will be during the show. The reveal consisted of some gorgeous music from the aforementioned orchestra and drummer, and a teaser of presumably Amaterasu running through a field toward the horizon. More to come soon, one must hope! Capcom has been seeding the ground for a new Okami, quietly, for a while now. Earlier this year, it polled fans to see if they were interested in an Okami sequel, alongside sequels for Dead Rising, Mega...
It seems remarkable that Mafia: The Old Country and Grand Theft Auto 6 may end up releasing within a few months of each other, more remarkable still that they’re both owned by the same parent company. Both games are about crime, murder, and getting up to no good, and while one is set in 1900s Sicily and the other a fictional representation of Miami, you’d be forgiven for thinking the developers of Mafia: The Old Country would prefer a bit more breathing room from the behemoth that is GTA 6. But in an interview with IGN ahead of Mafia: The Old Country’s trailer reveal at The Game Awards 2024, game director Alex Cox and Hangar 13 president Nick Baynes dismissed those concerns, and even distanced their game from comparisons to GTA 6. GTA...
Mafia: The Old Country has a new trailer (officially this time!), offering a first proper look at what publisher 2K and developer Hangar 13 describe as a “linear, narrative-driven” sequel. Releasing in summer 2025 across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, Mafia: The Old Country is set in 1900s Sicily, years before the first Mafia game and its sequels. While it occupies a place within the existing Mafia universe, Mafia: The Old Country tells a brand new story with a new cast of characters about the origin of the mafia itself. You play a new, original protagonist called Enzo, who survived a childhood of indentured labor in Sicily’s sulfur mines to join Don Torrisi's crime family. Structurally, Mafia: The Old Country is a...
Sega has announced Sonic Racing CrossWorlds with a fleeting teaser trailer at The Game Awards 2024. Be sure to check out IGN's round-up of everything announced at The Game Awards 2024 for more on what's coming to the world of gaming in the years ahead. Developing... Onimusha is officially back. Capcom announced that the classic action series, which last received a proper sequel on the PlayStation 2, is getting a new entry on modern consoles. The first trailer was shown during The Game Awards 2024, revealing a dark fantasy action game that bears a resemblance to popular Soulslike games. It's being developed for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam and is set to release in 2026. "A lone samurai steps forth—his blade sharpened, soul anew. The Onimusha series by Capcom reawakens with Onimusha: Way of the Sword, a brand new title coming in 2026," the official description reads. The original Onimusha: Warlords was released in 2001 and received a remaster in 2019. We wrote in our original review...
Today at The Game Awards 2024, Pocketpair brought a brand new trailer for Palworld showing off the game's previously-teased next expansion, entitled Feybreak. Feybreak is scheduled to arrive very soon, on December 23, 2024. Feybreak was teased just last month, referred to as the "largest, harshest, and most mysterious" island added to Palworld so far. It's supposedly six times bigger than Sakurajima, the last new island added. And it's coming ahead of a planned crossover with indie game Terraria, which is expected in 2025. We were fans of Palworld when it first came out in early access, giving it an 8/10 and saying that while it "may crib quite a bit from Pokemon's homework," its "deep survival mechanics and a hilarious attitude make...
Yakuza / Like a Dragon developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has revealed Project Century at The Game Awards 2024, a new action game set in 1915 with some absolutely fantastic vibes. Despite a pretty lengthy trailer, we don't actually know much about what Project Century is. It looks kind of like a classic Yakuza action game, with a tough guy protagonist walking around what we probably can safely assume is Japan, beating people up. But this is much gorier than we're used to seeing, the protagonist seems to be a mystery man we haven't met before, and the Japan we're exploring seems to have some sort of alt-history stuff going on? Neat! Fans will likely be surprised at the announcement given RGG Studio only revealed its last game in...
Turok is back, but the famous dinosaur hunter is looking a little different. At Thursday's Game Awards, Saber Interactive officially announced Turok: Origins — a "new evolution" of the classic dinosaur-hunting franchise that first debuted on the Nintendo 64 and PC in 1997. In a marked shift for the franchise, Turok: Origins will feature third-person action instead of being a first-person shooter. Additionally, multiplayer will be fully integrated into its main campaign, with Turok supporting up to three players via co-op. Turok: Origins' title hero will don a high-tech "biomorphic suit" that allows him to use DNA captured from enemies, which grant him abilities like the power to summon lightning. It will feature semi-open...
It’s official: FromSoftware is making a multiplayer Elden Ring spin-off. One of the biggest announcements at The Game Awards 2024, Elden Ring Nightreign is sure to shock fans of FromSoftware’s Souls games. This three-player PvE game is unlike anything the legendary developer has made before, and it’s fair to say it’ll raise more than a few eyebrows across the internet. Ahead of the game’s reveal, IGN’s Tristan Ogilvie got the chance to play Elden Ring Nightreign (check out our impressions here) and interview game director Junya Ishizaki to find out where this surprise departure from the hugely successful Souls formula came from, how it all fits in with Elden Ring itself, and whether it should be considered a live service game. Read...
In case you hadn't heard, The Game Awards are happening. And to help celebrate the medium we all love, Amazon is running a sale that coincides with the festivities. You can save a bunch of money on a trio of excellent games: Final Fantsy VII Rebirth, Silent Hill 2, and Star Wars Outlaws. And if you're still on the fence about picking up a Meta Quest 3S, Amazon is throwing in $100 in digital credit if you buy one. These are great deals, but they'll only be available for a limited time, and in limited quantities. The Game Awards Sale The PS5 version of Star Wars Outlaws is already gone, so grab any of these deasl while they're available. In case there's any doubt about how good these games and this hardware is, let's take a look at our...
From the discovery of sprawling, subterranean otherworlds to the startling second phases that completely turned the tables in so many of its boss fights, 2022’s Elden Ring was a mesmerising action RPG adventure that surprised players at almost every turn. Now, more than two years later it appears that developer FromSoftware isn’t done with pulling the rug out from under the feet of its fanbase just yet, with the surprise reveal of Elden Ring Nightreign, a standalone co-op spin-off that takes the cautious dungeon crawls of Elden Ring and turbocharges them into propulsive, slash ‘n’ dash speedruns. After spending some six hours of hands-on time with this bold new spin on FromSoftware’s own Soulslike formula, I can confirm that Nightreign...
After both teases and leaks, Hazelight Studios' new game, Split Fiction, has been officially revealed at The Game Awards. Director of Hazelight Studios Josef Fares was on hand to rapidly explain several features of his team's upcoming co-op adventure, which stars two aspiring writers who inadvertently wind up inside the same simulation of one of their stories. Discovering their stories are about to be stolen by a sinister tech company, they need to figure out how to escape "through the very worlds that they created." With each level jumping between a sci-fi world and a fantasy world, Split Fiction also promises unique mechanics for every level, including dragons that emerge as hatchlings before growing into "full-ass dragons" that...
Gearbox Software has revealed the first gameplay footage for Borderlands 4 as part of a brand-new trailer shown at The Game Awards 2024. Following on from Borderlands 4's initial reveal at Gamescom, the new trailer offered fans a glimpse of what to expect from the hotly-anticipated sequel. Among other things it showed snippets of first-person shooting and a few returning characters, including Claptrap. Here's the official blurb from Gearbox: Gearbox co-founder Randy Pitchford heavily teased the trailer in the run-up to The Game Awards, promising that it would include a "never-been-seen original cinematic sequence depicting a moment that occurs about halfway between the end of Borderlands 3 and the beginning of Borderlands...
After several years of silence, Obsidian has reemerged with a new trailer for The Outer Worlds 2, giving us our first look at gameplay and confirmation that it'll be arriving on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, Steam, and Game Pass in 2025. Watch the trailer below: The Outer Worlds 2 was first announced in 2021 as part of...wow, here's a throwback, the last-ever E3. At the time, we didn't know much, just that the game would feature a similar sense of humor to its predecessor. There's a bit of that in this new trailer, with the voiceover telling fans to "get ready for an adventure that took three times longer to make but will almost certainly be two times bigger." Otherwise, we just got a quick look at gameplay that's pretty similar...
I went in almost completely blind to my meeting with Josef “F*ck the Oscars!” Fares to play his new game, Split Fiction. I knew the title, and I knew that it was, to no one’s surprise, another co-op game, as has become his calling card after Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, A Way Out, and It Takes Two. That’s it. So when he fired up the build, put one of the controllers in my hand, and we started to play it together, I was probably as surprised as you were when you watched the reveal trailer at The Game Awards. It’s absolutely nothing like his previous games – thematically and most definitely visually – and it’s clear that with each new game, Fares and his team at Hazelight are giving players more and more agency over what’s happening on...
Developer FromSoftware and publisher Bandai Namco have announced Elden Ring Nightreign, a standalone co-operative spin-off set in a world parallel to that of 2022’s Elden Ring. Revealed with its debut trailer at The Game Awards 2024, Elden Ring Nightreign allows players to team up with two co-op partners and drop into a condensed map based on Elden Ring’s Limgrave area, with enemies and structures that are randomised at the start of each session. From there, players must hustle to defeat enemy camps and find more powerful weapons, so that when nightfall comes they have a better chance of surviving a challenging boss encounter. If players survive for three in-game days, they must take on a major boss, with eight major bosses to be...
Game design legend Warren Spector is known for pioneering the “immersive sim” genre – most famously the original Deus Ex, with Ultima Underworld paving the way prior to that – but now he wants to modernize it in a way he’s never tried before: multiplayer. The result is Thick as Thieves, a four-player, session-based PvPvE stealth-action game that harkens back to the original 1998 single-player stealth classic Thief: The Dark Project while adding elements (like cross-play across PC and consoles, for example) that modern audiences expect. “We wanted to create a game that was stealth-action, and not just stealth with slower pacing, ” Spector explained. The Austin-development-scene fixture is joined by fellow industry veteran Greg...
Sloclap is going in an unexpected direction with its Sifu follow-up: an online multiplayer soccer game called Rematch. Sifu is a beat 'em up set in China that revolves around cool martial arts action. Unveiled at The Game Awards 2024, Rematch is a new arcade take on soccer due out in the summer of 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. A beta is planned for the spring. The Paris-based Sloclap, big fans of soccer and of course the French national team, has created a short, fast-paced 5v5 match experience that uses a third-person camera rather than a fixed camera. The debut trailer is below: As you can see from the footage, Rematch is set in caged virtual reality arenas, with no fouls and thus no penalties, no offsides...
Secret Level's Pac-Man episode is getting its very own game. Titled Shadow Labyrinth, it picks up the story of the darker and edgier version of the classic Bandai Namco character. Like the Secret Level episode, you take the role of a character running a maze; their only goal being to "eat." Based on the trailer, it looks to be a Metroidvania — a marked shift for the classic franchise. Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada is among the developers involved with the development of Shadow Laybrinth, which is being made using Unity. Bandai Namco tells IGN that Shadow Labyrinth has been in development for about four years and that the Secret Level episode was made in conjunction with the game. We admittedly weren't the biggest fans of the...

Ninja Gaiden has returned as a new 2D side-scrolling action platformer called Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound. Revealed at The Game Awards 2024 with the trailer, below, Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound sees new character Kenji Mozu face off against a demonic army. It's published by Dotemu (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge's) and developed by Blasphemous maker The Game Kitchen under licence from Koei Tecmo. Dotemu said Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound is based on the NES version of Ninja Gaiden. Here's the official blurb: Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound is due out summer 2025 on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles. Be sure to check out IGN's round-up of everything announced at The Game Awards 2024 for more on what's coming to the...
Thank your own personal deity—possibly trickster God Sun Wukong—it's Friday! As per always, I'm going to get your weekend started right with a bunch of price slashes. If I don't see you, stay safe, save often, and catch you Monday! In retro news, I'm celebrating the 21st birthday of Outrun 2, the closest Sega got to arcade racer perfection. Essentially, the essence of the 1986 original—going flat out in a Ferrari with some rad tunes on your radio, a romantic prospect riding shotgun, and branching scenery whipping past—was modernised with a new emphasis on sublime drifting and six more prancing ponies in your stable. My mates and I spent a ludicrous amount of coins in the multiplayer-linked cabinets of this. It's a sin that the ports...
Anime Last Stand developer Boss Studio is back with the Fate/Stay Night Inspired update, which adds a new Legend Stage, six new units, major lag fixes, and more to the Roblox tower defense experience. The latest update and its patch notes made its way to Roblox players yesterday. It’s yet another update that comes with new content to mull over, but the most substantial change lies with the adjustments to the battle pass. The team says players will now receive “much better rewards” with the pass, which also now consists of 100 tiers to complete. Anime Last Stand’s latest update also comes with three new units – King of Heroes (Celestial), Archer of Red (Mythic), and Rogue Lancer (Mythic) – as well as three new evolutions – King of...
Former Bungie director Chris Barrett is suing PlayStation and Bungie for more than $200 million, denying allegations of sexual misconduct and claiming that his firing was intended to avoid paying out nearly $50 million owed under his employment agreement. IGN has reached out to Sony and Bungie for comment. The 81-page lawsuit lays out seven counts against Bungie and SIE, including Family and Medical Leave Act [FMLA] retaliation, defamation, and breach of contract. Barrett is seeking at least $100 million in defamation damages in addition to more than $90 million for money owed under retention agreements, alleged Washington Rebate Act [WRA] violations, and other compensation. Reports emerged earlier this year that Barrett, a Bungie...

Intel is finally heading into its second generation of dedicated graphics cards with the Intel Arc B580. And while the company could have fallen into a trap of trying to compete with Nvidia and AMD at the high end, Team Blue instead has created one of the best budget graphics cards on the market right now. At $249, the Arc B580 is cheaper than the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 and slots in right next to the Radeon RX 7600. However, because both of these cards are based on older technology, it’s little wonder that Intel is able to eke out a lead. It’s refreshing to see a flagship graphics card aim for the masses, rather than holding a prohibitively expensive price tag that very few can actually afford. And while there are a couple games...
Secret Level’s impressive Warhammer 40,000 episode is perhaps the most authentic realization of a Space Marine’s fighting power seen in an animation. Fans of Space Marine 2, however, are focusing on one thing: a weapon used in the episode but currently not in the game itself. The Secret Level Warhammer 40,000 episode, called And They Shall Know No Fear, is a sequel to the recently released Space Marine 2, and stars protagonist Titus on what looks like a suicide mission to defeat the forces of Tzeentch. But while Titus appears in the animation as he looks in Space Marine 2, there’s a weapon players have yet to see in-game: a Power Axe. It sounds innocuous, but the action scene in which this axe is used steals the show. We see it...
