The Silent Hill 2 Remake Wikipedia page was locked down after its list of review scores from the press was edited to make them lower.
Silent Hill 2 is Bloober Team’s well-received remake of Konami’s classic 2001 psychological horror game for PC and PS5 (it’s console exclusive to PS5 for one year, Sony has confirmed). It sees protagonist James Sunderland following a mysterious letter from his late wife, Mary, and a search for clues in the terrifying namesake town, which is teeming with nightmarish monsters.
As reported by Eurogamer, admins were forced to make Wikipedia’s Silent Hill 2 Remake page ‘semi-protected’ after what was called “persistent disruptive editing.”
Wikipedia’s rules state that semi-protection is sometimes necessary...
Assassin’s Creed Mirage launches on Steam later in October, Ubisoft has announced.
Mirage's Steam release comes a year after it launched exclusively on the Epic Games Store and Ubisoft Connect on PC, as well as PlayStation and Xbox.
Ubisoft recently ditched its policy of signing with Epic for PC exclusivity and will now return to day-one releases on Steam following the poor performance of Star Wars Outlaws, which also skipped Steam at launch. Outlaws itself releases on Steam on November 21, 2024.
Mirage is the well-received back-to-basics Assassin’s Creed game that focuses more on the series’ stealthy origins. You play Basim, a cunning street thief who navigates the bustling streets of ninth-century Baghdad. Mirage is also shorter...
Diablo 4 expansion Vessel of Hatred goes live today, October 7 in some regions, with a global release date of October 8. Here are all the release times across the globe.
Vessel of Hatred — Diablo 4’s first expansion — goes live as early as 4pm PDT on October 7. Pre-download on Battle.net and console (Xbox and PlayStation) is already available. There is no pre-download for Diablo 4 on Steam (Steam users must wait to download the update when Vessel of Hatred goes live at 4pm PDT on October 7).
It’s worth noting that Diablo 4 players can pre-download the patch that contains Vessel of Hatred and the Season of Hatred Rising (Season 6) content regardless of whether they have bought Vessel of Hatred. Blizzard recently released the patch...
The future of Halo is starting to come into focus. During Sunday's Halo World Championships, 343 Industries made a number of announcements, including that it will officially be changing its name to Halo Studios and that it's working on multiple new games. In addition, the newly-rebranded studio say that all future projects will be developed on Unreal Engine, leaving behind the Slipspace Engine utilized by Halo Infinite.
The announcements were unveiled in a seven-minute video shown ahead of the Halo World Championship's grand finals, which showcased the results of Project Foundry — an experimental project designed to show a Halo game built using the Unreal Engine. While it's not much more than a tech demo, it offers a glimpse at a...

EA Sports College Football 25 for $47.99
EA Sports College Football 25 is available on sale for the first time this weekend. This game marked the first college football title from EA since NCAA 14, as a lawsuit regarding player NIL (name, image, and likeness) prevented the company from producing further entries. Many of the older modes have returned to College Football 25, including Dynasty, Team Builder, and Road to Glory. Of course, dozens of new features have been added, including Stadium Pulse, which creates challenging road environments in college football's biggest stadiums.

Warning: this article contains mild thematic and environment spoilers for Silent Hill 2.
The Silent Hill 2 remake is the most miserable experience I’ve had with a game in recent memory.
With an opening sentence like that, you’re probably expecting to read a very negative critique of developer Bloober Team’s recreation of Konami and Team Silent’s survival horror classic. But, in this very rare occurrence, complete and unrelenting misery is actually a positive. The original Silent Hill 2 is perhaps the bleakest, most sombre game ever made and Bloober Team has successfully preserved its miserable magic, ensuring this remake is a deeply effective descent into genuinely uncomfortable terror.
That journey begins with sound and vision...
If you are anything like us, the recent delay to Assassin’s Creed Shadows – pushing it back to 2025 – has left a shuriken-shaped hole in our gaming schedule. After all, having to wait a few more months can feel like an eternity if you were really looking forward to the game, but never fear, […]

In some major (and pretty surprising) news for Halo fans, Halo: Infinite is finally getting a third-person mode this November.
343 Industries announced the news on Friday during a Forge panel at the 2024 Halo World Championship. For those who aren't at the event, the announcement was also posted on X/Twitter, including a bit of work-in-progress footage of third-person mode in action:
As fans will know, this marks the first time a third-person mode has ever been officially offered in a Halo game. Senior community manager John "Unyshek" Junyszek and Skybox Labs senior software engineer Colin Cove offered a bit more information at the Halo World Championship panel, saying they'll be starting with third-person Firefight mode in a future...
New entries of both the Sword Art Online anime and the games have consistently been released for more than ten years now. On October 4th, both the newest anime season, Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online II, and the newest game, Sword Art Online: Fractured Daydream were released.
SAO: FD is already quite different from the previous in the video game series, but we had to ask: What’s next for the Sword Art Online video games? Here’s what SAO: FD producer Shoehei Mogami and SAO game series producer Yosuke Futami had to say about the possibility of a more mature SAO game and the MMORPG-style SAO game they know fans want.
“Sword Art Online itself, the anime and the game, will keep going into the future,” Futami said. “We do...
Sometimes all that is needed to make a great game is great gameplay. As demonstrated by early games like Pac-Man and Galaga, it’s often easy to forget – what with games becoming increasingly complex – how much fun pure, arcade-style gameplay can be. Enter KILL KNIGHT. Doing away with almost anything that can be considered […]

The developer of a number of upcoming virtual reality titles including Sony’s Starship Troopers VR game has suffered a significant round of layoffs amid what it called a "challenging VR gaming market."
XR Games, developer of the poorly received Hitman 3: VR Reloaded as well as the upcoming Zombie Army VR for Rebellion and Starship Troopers: Continuum for Sony, suffered layoffs one former member of staff described as "beyond restructuring."
72 staff were reportedly let go, retaining only 12 out of around 84. The downsizing cast doubt on the launch and support of both Zombie Army VR and Starship Troopers: Continuum, but in a statement issued to IGN, XR Games insisted both would still release later in 2024.
Here’s the statement, from...
Diablo 4 was one of my favorite games last year, so I’ve had high hopes for Vessel of Hatred, the first expansion to developer Blizzard’s demonic ARPG. Fortunately, this action-packed crusade through the muck and mire of Nahantu’s forests and swamps is exactly what the plague doctor ordered, even if there isn’t as much meat on the bones as I’d hoped. In fact, the truncated campaign, unfinished story, and modest amount of endgame content make this expansion feel more like a prologue in some ways. But the quality of life improvements, changes to the meta, debut raid activity, and fantastic new character class are all so dang good that I’m happy to continue grinding XP and claiming shiny loot for several hundred more hours.

Ubisoft’s founding Guillemot family and shareholder Tencent are reportedly considering teaming up to take the company private following a number of high-profile video game flops and the collapse of its share price.
Bloomberg reports that both parties are speaking with advisers in a bid to stabilize Ubisoft after shares in the company fell 54% this year. The publication qualifies this by saying these exploratory talks may end up going nowhere, and a buyout is not the only option being discussed. Ubisoft declined to comment.
The Guillemot family, including Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot, holds just over 20% of Ubisoft’s shares, with Tencent owning just over 9%. At the time of this article’s publication, shares in Ubisoft had rebounded a...

David Hayter, the veteran voice behind Metal Gear’s Solid Snake, has teased a return to the iconic role he last played over a decade ago.
Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima controversially replaced Hayter as Snake with 24 star Kiefer Sutherland for 2015’s Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. Hayter last played Snake in 2010’s Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.
But could a return be on the cards? That certainly seems likely following a cryptic tweet from Hayter himself. “I was in the booth today,” he said. “Playing a role I’ve not played, since…” Hayter followed that tweet up with a gif of Snake in the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.
At first glance it looks like Hayter is in the booth to record Snake voice lines for Metal...
Cardy, Matt, and Jesse are here to deliver a week full of misery. That isn't always a bad thing, though. Case in point: Silent Hill 2, a fantastic remake of a horror classic. It can, however, definitely be a bad thing. Just like the incredibly boring Joker: Folie à Deux. We have reviews of both this week, as well as thoughts of Hell Is Us, the Until Dawn remaster (remake?), and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.Remember to send us your thoughts about all the new games, TV shows, and films you're enjoying or looking forward to: ign_ukfeedback@ign.com.

Atari and WayForward recently reinvented a classic arcade title with the release of Yars Rising, a complete reimagining of the 1982 shooter Yars' Revenge. Now Atari and IDW Publishing have joined forces to release a Yars Rising prequel comic.
With the preorder deadline for Yars Rising #1 happening on Monday, October 7, IGN can exclusively debut a new preview of the first issue. Check it out in the slideshow gallery below:
Yars Rising #1 is a one-shot special written by WayForward's Adam Tierney and drawn by Ele Bruni, with cover art by Ashleigh Hetrick. As the preview shows, the comic retains the unusual anime-inspired aesthetic of the game. The comic is set before the events of the game, as hacker extraordinaire Emi Kimura and her...
Sony’s controversial PlayStation Network requirement for its PC games is once again in the spotlight after the company delisted the original Horizon Zero Dawn on Steam and the Epic Games Store and added the PSN requirement to the upcoming single-player remaster.
Sony’s PSN account requirement for its PC games was thrust into the limelight with the release of Arrowhead’s explosive PC and PS5 co-op shooter Helldivers 2 earlier this year. Helldivers 2 suffered a review bomb campaign on Steam after Sony made PSN accounts mandatory for PC gamers on Valve’s platform (Arrowhead subsequently decided to turn the Steam user review history graph into a cape, which is ready for launch but has yet to release).
Sony eventually backed down and...
Diablo 4 and its upcoming expansion Vessel of Hatred will be PS5 Pro Enhanced, Blizzard has confirmed. It is the first Microsoft game with confirmed Enhanced support for Sony’s $700 mid-gen upgrade.
Microsoft owns all Activision Blizzard's franchises following its $69 billion acquisition of the company in 2023, and since then has added a number of the company’s games to its subscription service, Game Pass. Diablo 4 is in Game Pass, although not in its Standard tier.
Diablo boss Rod Fergusson confirmed the support in a tweet, without adding any details such as when the game will be updated or what players can expect on PS5 Pro. “Very proud of our hardworking team to make this happen,” Fergusson added. “More details at a later date.”...
The Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero leaks have begun a week before its official release date — and Bandai Namco has responded in perhaps the only way it can: with takedowns and shifty eyes.
It seems someone got hold of a copy of the game early and, as is the internet way, started streaming the game. It didn’t take long for Bandai Namco to nuke that stream from orbit, but of course the internet noticed and never forgets.
Since then, Bandai Namco has worked to plug further leaks, but it faces an uphill battle at this stage. And in a tweet responding to the leaks, Bandai Namco made clear it’s keeping an eye (or two) on the internet. In any case, if you’re mindful of spoilers, now might be the time to batten down the hatches.

Palworld has launched on PS5 in Japan even as its developer battles a lawsuit with Nintendo and The Pokémon Company in the country.
Palworld’s long-awaited PS5 release shadow-dropped on September 24 after an announcement during Sony’s State of Play broadcast, but while gamers in 68 countries worldwide were downloading the survival and crafting game dubbed 'Pokémon with guns' on PlayStation, Japanese gamers had to wait.
The Japanese PS5 release comes hot on the heels of Nintendo and The Pokémon Company’s shock joint lawsuit against Pocketpair for alleged patent infringement, which was filed in Japan.
Pocketpair has insisted it had no idea which patents it’s accused of infringing, but experts have pointed to a “killer patent” that...
Concord. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Star Wars Outlaws. Final Fantasy 16. The list of big budget video game failures is growing longer each month, with triple-A publishers struggling to make a dent in the dominance of older, more established players in this most brutal of markets.
Throughout it all, massive hits come out of nowhere. One of those is Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, developed by World War Z and SnowRunner studio Saber Interactive and published by Focus Entertainment.
Of course, Space Marine 2 benefited from the strength of the Warhammer 40,000 brand, which is carefully managed by Games Workshop and about as big as it’s ever been. But still, Space Marine 2’s breakout success came as a surprise even to its...
Always the bridesmaid but never the bride, SpongeBob’s sleepy sidekick, Patrick Star, has often been overlooked in favour of his over-the-top neighbour – at least in the world of video games. That hasn’t stopped him from making a home in our hearts, though, so I was riding high when I learned the enigmatic starfish was finally being thrust into the limelight… but then the emotional rollercoaster dipped back down as I discovered SpongeBob SquarePants: The Patrick Star Game is little more than a sea of uninspired minigames and repetitive activities that waste almost all of its obvious potential, outside of a boatload of cute references to the show.
Stepping into the flowery shorts of Patrick himself, you embark on a six-hour sandbox...
Emerging from a team of developers at Atlus responsible for the legendary Persona JRPG series, Metaphor: ReFantazio is an all-new, tremendously promising genre effort that both embraces and iterates upon everything that made the Persona series so beloved in the first place. After a string of Resident Evil remakes, the resurrection of Dead Space, and even genre granddaddy Alone in the Dark stepping back into the spotlight earlier this year, it feels long overdue that seminal survival horror classic Silent Hill 2 should emerge from the fog and be given a modern makeover. Enter Bloober Team, the psychological horror specialists best known for Layers of Fear and Observer, who’ve been given the task of taking the morbid masterpiece from the PlayStation 2 era and making the fetid flesh of its many demonic ghouls seem fresh. As a big fan of the original, I’m happy to report that this resulting Silent Hill 2 remake is an exceptionally grim and grimy horrorscape that’s consistently compelling to explore, packed...
Thank your own personal, all-knowing entity—possibly Mira the Dog—it's Friday! I'm going to wrap up our week together with a bunch of cheapies I've seen on "olden year" sports titles, reduced LEGO, and more. In case I don't see you (in some random online lobby) over the weekend, stay safe, save often, and catch you Monday!
In retro news, I'm doing a 27-barrel-roll salute for the birthday of Lylat Wars, the first N64 game to rock our world/mitts with a Rumble Pak. My introduction to this 3D rail shooter is seared into my brain. Our eyes met at a demo kiosk in Sydney's domestic terminal as Lionel Richie's Hello played over the PA system. 20 mins later, my parents had to chokehold me off it, lest we miss our flight. There was so much to...
After the fast-travel extravaganza that was Starfield’s base campaign, I very much approve of the way its Shattered Space DLC course-corrects to make the new Va’ruun homeworld location feel much more like Bethesda’s previous open worlds. This planet is host to a substantial chunk of new quest content revolving around a long-winded but not uninteresting story about a futuristic theocracy that dangerously mingles science and religion despite their obvious conflict. That said, this first expansion is not terribly ambitious, either. It doesn’t introduce any significant new features that refresh anything you’ll do once you hop in your ship and leave this planet in a way similar to, say, the Dragonborn expansion did for Skyrim. Not every...
Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment have deployed Star Wars Outlaws update 1.2, bringing a host of performance and gameplay enhancements on console and PC.
The publisher laid out everything new in title update 2 in a post on its website. It’s the latest in a series of title updates that includes a long list of tweaks to the visuals as well as some squashed bugs. Ubisoft says the batch of additions to its open-world sci-fi video game were included with fan feedback in mind, adding that it is “dedicated to listening closely” as post-launch support for Star Wars Outlaws continues.
Topping the list of more notable changes is that the stealth experience has been ironed out. That means adjusted AI detection, tweaked NPC locations and...
World of Warcraft's latest expansion, The War Within, has been out for over a month now, and things are going great. Critics and players are largely happy with all the new content additions, the new Delve feature appears to finally be appropriately balanced, and the Race to World First was a real fun nail-biter.
But there's been one major, glaring issue with The War Within simmering since a pre-launch patch that's frustrated hundreds of players, with seemingly no fix in sight: the disappearance of thousands of items from guild banks, seemingly never to be returned.
The Great Guild Bank Caper

LEGO Horizon Adventures is set to release for PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC on November 14. It takes the story, characters, and environments of the PlayStation Horizon games and gives them the full LEGO treatment. That means it’s sillier than the original, family-friendly, and it supports couch co-op as Aloy and friends fight off robotic dinosaurs.
The game is available to preorder now from a number of retailers, in both physical and digital editions (see it at Amazon). Read on to see where to get it, how much it costs, what comes with it, and more.
