Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord Composer Winifred Phillips Wins Grammy for Best Soundtrack in a Video Game
Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord has won the Grammy for Best Score Soundtrack for Video Games and Other Interactive Media. Accepting the award, composer Winifred Phillips thanked developer Digital Eclipse and the audience for “believing in music for games and recognising it and for breathing life and enthusiasm and energy into what we do. It means so much.” Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord is the 3D remake of the first game in the Wizardry series. 1981’s medieval fantasy Wizardy is considered the first party-based video game RPG ever released, and is credited as inspiring the likes of Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. The game director of MultiVersus has called out “threats to harm” developers on the game have received following the announcement of its impending shutdown. My connoisseur’s eye has spotted sizable discounts on the quintessential endless space adventure, the best b-ball action, plus a sprinkle of shark mayhem and stealth killin’ in a stylish 9th-century hoodie. The OG GR was a PS Vita cult classic that pushed game design boundaries with its rare redefinition of how 3D space could be stylishly fallen across whilst flipping double birds at Sir Isaac Newton. It also looked a bloody treat on a 5-inch OLED with an endearing cel-shaded aesthetic coating a surreal...

Marvel Star Simu Liu Says He's Working to Get Sleeping Dogs a Film Adaptation
The Sleeping Dogs film adaptation, which was confirmed to be cancelled earlier this month, now has a chance of coming back courtesy of Marvel star Simu Liu. As reported by Newsweek, Liu replied to a fan calling for an adaptation of the 2012 game on X/Twitter to say he is trying to get the film off the ground. "Working with the rights holders to bring Sleeping Dogs to the big screen," he said. The adaptation was announced in 2017 with Donnie Yen set to star, but the film disappeared a year later and, just a few weeks ago, Yen himself confirmed it had been scrapped. "I spent a lot of time and did a lot of work with these producers, and I even invested some of my own money into obtaining the drafts and some of the rights," Yen said. "I...

Civilization 7 Dev Recommends Even Experts Stick With the Tutorial for Their First Full Campaign — Here’s Why
The developer of Civilization 7 has explained why it strongly recommends even veteran Civ players stick with the tutorial for their first full campaign. In a post on Steam, Ed Beach, creative director at Firaxis Games, offered his tips for your first game of Civilization 7. “Civilization 7 is a big game, with many new systems and mechanics that differentiate it from earlier games in our series,” he began. “There's a lot to learn, so we felt that it was important that we provide some suggestions to ensure everyone has a successful first experience.” This is a reference to Civilization 7’s Ages system, which is a drastic change for the long-running strategy series. A full campaign in Civilization 7 is one that goes through all three...
As Dragon Age Fans Fear the Death of the Series, One Former BioWare Developer Offers Words of Reassurance: 'Dragon Age Isn't Dead Because It's Yours N
Following layoffs at BioWare that saw the exit of many key developers of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, one former writer on the series has moved to reassure fans by saying: “DA isn't dead because it's yours now.” This week, EA restructured BioWare to focus on Mass Effect 5 only. Some who worked on Dragon Age: The Veilguard were moved to projects at other EA studios. Some revealed they were laid off and were now seeking work. The decision followed EA’s announcement that Dragon Age: The Veilguard had underperformed on its expectations for the long-awaited action RPG. EA said Dragon Age "engaged" 1.5 million players during its recent financial quarter, which was down nearly 50% from the company's projections. Notably, EA did not say the...

Iconic Bethesda voice actor Wes Johnson, who's appeared in The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, Fallout 3, Starfield, and many more, has shared a heartfelt message amid his recovery after being found "barely alive" in his hotel room last week. "I found out there's a lot of love in this world that I didn't know was out there and I'm grateful to each and every one of you," Johnson said. Spider-Man 2 Debuts to 'Mixed' Steam Reviews Amid Serious PC Performance Problems
Spider-Man 2 on PC was shaping up to be surprisingly performant once its system requirements were revealed. However, the Nixxes-developed port has debuted to a 'mixed' Steam user review rating, with many players complaining about technical issues. Currently, 55% of Spider-Man 2's Steam reviews are positive. “Despite having a high-end GPU and running the latest Nvidia drivers (5.66.36), the game frequently crashes,” said one RTX 4090 user. Another read: “The game is completely unplayable on PC. The game crashes to desktop every five minutes. I have already requested a refund.” "Hold off on buying until they get a couple of stabilization patches out because holy hell," one reviewer added. "To say this is 'rough' is an understatement...

Being a huge, ultra-nightmare completing fan of Doom 2016 (and then Eternal), I was always going to find you the best prices for this one. Monster Hunter Wilds: The Final Preview – IGN First
On day three of my visit to Capcom in Osaka, Japan, I once again sat in a dimly lit conference room. I was playing Monster Hunter Wilds, empty cans of coffee and tea strewn around my station. “You must be tired of being stuck in here playing,” said a friendly employee. All I could think was: “I wish I could play more.” This is after I played the first five hours of Monster Hunter Wild’s story and hunted four monsters in the Oilwell Basin in a different play state. I just couldn’t get enough; there are so many nuances to master with the new weapon and gameplay features and I’m the type of person who wants to scrutinize everything and figure out exactly how everything works through repetition and experimentation. I’m a guides writer - it...
How World's FFXIV and The Witcher 3 Collabs Inspired Monster Hunter Wilds - IGN First
Monster Hunter Wilds introduces many changes, new features, and quality-of-life improvements to the Monster Hunter series. But did you know the developers were experimenting with ideas for this behemoth of a new installment all the way back during Monster Hunter World’s crossover events? Specifically, suggestions from Final Fantasy 14’s director, Naoki Yoshida, made during the FFXIV crossover and positive reception to The Witcher 3 crossover directly affected new gameplay elements in Monster Hunter Wilds. In short, conversations with Yoshi-P while collaborating for the FFXIV crossover inspired a change to Monster Hunter Wilds’ heads-up display (HUD): introducing attack names appearing on screen as you perform them. As for The Witcher 3...

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Is Getting a Live-Action Film Adaptation
Upcoming Xbox RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is the latest video game revealed to be getting a film adaptation, with plans in the works already despite the game not having even released yet. This comes by way of a Variety report, which says that developer Sandfall Interactive has partnered with Story Kitchen for the film version, and Kepler Interactive will publish. Sandfall and Story Kitchen confirmed the adaptation to the publication, and Story Kitchen founders Dmitri M. Johnson and Mike Goldberg, along with Timothy I. Stevenson and Elena Sandoval will produce. No other details about the film such as casting or a release window were offered. It's hard to imagine a Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 film simply because the work it's based...
Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector Review
Science fiction has a long history of telling poignant human stories through the lens of non-human subjects. 2022’s Citizen Sleeper earned its place alongside stories like Blade Runner almost instantly thanks to its introspective interrogation of personhood and community in a world where all of it feels fragile, and this sequel’s strong, system-hopping story consistently hits the same highs. And though it can be very slow paced, repetitive, and full of walls of text, a byproduct of its tabletop-inspired design, overhauled survival systems, new multilayered crew missions, and an upgraded sense of tension in every dice roll makes Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector more engaging more often. Citizen Sleeper’s RPG qualities resemble pen...
Ninja Gaiden 2 Black Update to Add Balance Adjustments and New Features in February
Team Ninja will release a Ninja Gaiden 2 Black update in mid February to make “balance adjustments” and add “additional features.” The update was announced on X/Twitter but little was said about what it includes specifically. Players have already replied to the post with features they’d like to see, including options to tweak camera movement as well as a more traditional new game plus option, but Team Ninja has only said it will address “feedback” received so far. No release date was announced. “Based on the feedback received, we are preparing a patch aimed for release in mid February with some balance adjustments and additional features,” the studio said. Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, which shadow dropped for players on PC, PlayStation 5...
Dune: Awakening: The Final Preview
There's only one thing worse than being chased across the desert by a sandworm in Dune: Awakening, and that's getting eaten by a sandworm in Dune: Awakening. Not only does the giant phallic cretin suck you down into the bowels of Arrakis, it eats everything you're carrying. Your clothes, your weapons, and especially your Spice Liquor. Suddenly you're respawning at your base in nothing but your underwear and are forced to do the run of shame across the sands to start rebuilding your inventory. It's easy to be sceptical about an MMO survival game set in the Duniverse, but after a few bouts of dehydration and sunstroke, the day I spent in Arrakis convinced me that Dune: Awakening is one to watch. More than that, if the developer can...
Hello Kitty Island Adventure Review
I found a lot of joy in Hello Kitty Island Adventure when I first started playing its closed beta for IGN’s guide, way back before it hit Apple Arcade in 2023. Getting to create my own little Sanrio character and run around a tropical island collecting bits and bobs to gift to my new animal friends was pretty relaxing and fun. But day by day, that motivation to complete all my quests, find missing friends, and unlock new regions started to wear off. At a certain point it felt like a chore to log in, spam friends with gifts until I hit obnoxious daily limits, and hope I’d be allowed to progress my friendship levels a little further. Sadly, it’s the same situation on Switch and PC a year and change later: this island is still just as...
