Hazelight's fan-favorite co-op adventure, Split Fiction, has sold almost four million copies. Publisher EA confirmed the milestone in its latest financial results, calling the game a "hugely successful launch" and name-checking it as one of the reasons the publisher ended the 2025 financial year with a "strong finish." "4 MILLION SOLD!!!!" developer Hazelight exclaimed on social media in response to the news. "So many of you have picked up Split Fiction already, it’s amazing… "Seeing the fun you have with our game and the love you show for Mio, Zoe and each other warms our hearts here at Hazelight. And so many hot dogs made… " Split Fiction pulls you into the many worlds of two fiction writers in a boundary-pushing co-op adventure...
Amid all the excitement for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, Bethesda has issued a surprise patch for Starfield, adding ‘Very Low’ display settings to improve performance, additional support for Creations (mods), as well as fixes for quests, vehicles, the user interface, and the Shattered Space DLC. The update is currently in Steam beta, which PC players can opt into. In a post on its website, Bethesda called for feedback, and published patch notes, below. This update does little more than add a few new features and make bug fixes, which means Starfield players are still waiting for news on potential DLC. Space-set RPG Starfield launched in September 2023 as Bethesda’s first brand new IP in 25 years. But it was not as well...
In the latest video in Nintendo’s Creator’s Voice series, Final Fantasy Remake series director Naoki Hamaguchi revealed that Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will be getting a Switch 2 release. Intergrade is the expanded PS5 version of the 2020 PS4 release Final Fantasy VII Remake, the first chapter in the remake trilogy that greatly expands upon the classic 1997 PS1 RPG Final Fantasy VII. Final Fantasy VII Remake Integrade made some improvements to the PS4 version’s graphics and lighting, and also included Remake’s Intermission DLC, which centers on plucky ninja Yuffie’s arrival in Midgar. Final Fantasy VII Remake Integrade is currently available on PS5 and PC. However, Hamaguchi revealed that with the Switch 2’s improvements over...
Let's all make like my usual Oblivion playthrough and get our inventories severely over-encumbered with genre staples, cult classics, and a few hidden gems that might just surprise you. Whether you're on the hunt for sprawling RPGs, nostalgic remakes, or something stylish and brand new, there’s a little something tucked into each platform’s treasure chest. And at discounts this deep, it's difficult not to justify one more download (or five). This Day in Gaming 🎂 In retro news, I'm using a flaming deku stick to light a 22-candle cake for The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, a GameCube gem worth every rupee. I have vivid launch memories of being blown away by the (fandangle and fairly groundbreaking) cel-shaded visuals and the sheer...
Every month, Valve releases the results of its hardware survey, and the results are usually predictable, especially when it comes to what graphics cards most people are using. Most months, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 – or an equivalent XX60 class card from another generation – is on top. And while the RTX 4060 is technically the top GPU on Steam right now, this time it's the mobile version. Since December 2024, the RTX 4060 for gaming laptops has grown from 4.19% of Steam's userbase to 4.99% of it. That seems like a minor change, but in the same time frame the RTX 3060, which has been the the most popular graphics card for a while shrunk from 5.01% to 4.72%, allowing the mobile GPU to take the lead. This is the first time in my memory...
While the bow has always been a powerful weapon in Elden Ring, generally, it’s meant as a support weapon – something you use to pull aggro, or to weaken an enemy from afar before switching to your main weapon once they get into range, or to cause that one bird to fall to its death and farm its runes over and over again. But when you’re playing as the Ironeye in Nightreign, the bow is the heart and soul of the class, which results in a playstyle that’s very much unlike any of the other eight classes in Nightreign, and one that is probably the closest thing to a support class that Nightreign offers. Check out Ironeye in the exclusive gameplay video below. The first thing I noticed while playing with the Ironeye is that they are a very...
Microsoft has confirmed Wave 1 of the Xbox Game Pass May 2025 lineup. In a post on Xbox Wire, Microsoft revealed 12 games hitting its subscription service, taking us up to May 20. The biggest hitter here is Doom: The Dark Ages, the latest game in id Software’s world-famous first-person shooter series. That is, as a Microsoft-owned game, a day-one Game Pass launch. But it’s not the only day-one Game Pass launch of May 2025. Available today, May 6, is Dredge (Cloud, PC, and Xbox Series X|S), which hits Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass, and Game Pass Standard. Here’s the official blurb, from Microsoft: May 7 is a big day for Game Pass, with a number of additions: Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 (Cloud, Console, and PC) on Game Pass Ultimate...
Put simply, there’s nothing on PlayStation 5 quite like Forza Horizon 5. The Crew Motorfest? Close. Leaning hard into the philosophy of ‘if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em’, its fully fledged festival approach certainly makes Motorfest more like the Forza Horizon series than either of its predecessors. Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown? Sadly, no. The Forza Horizon series itself may owe a significant debt to the trendsetting MMO racing of the original Test Drive Unlimited, but Solar Crown went on to fly too close to the sun in this department. An always-online racer with no dedicated solo component? The Horizon series has allowed players to seamlessly slip between offline and online play since 2014’s Forza Horizon 2! Need for Speed...
Microsoft’s multiplatform strategy is clearly paying off when it comes to launching on PlayStation 5 as well as Xbox Series X and S and PC. Confirmation comes from Sony itself, via a PlayStation blog post that revealed the top-selling PlayStation Store games for April 2025. In the U.S. and Canada, the top three spots on PS5's non free-to-play download chart were all taken by Microsoft games: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, Minecraft, and Forza Horizon 5. It was a similar situation in Europe, with Forza Horizon 5 on top, followed by The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, then Minecraft. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which Microsoft backed by signing a deal for a day-one Game Pass launch as well as an appearance in Xbox...
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has now sold an impressive 2 million copies after 12 days on sale. That’s up from the 1 million sold three days after launch. It’s worth remembering that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was, alongside Bethesda’s Oblivion Remastered, a day-one Game Pass title. That makes this sales milestone all the more impressive for French developer Sandfall Interactive and publisher Kepler Interactive. “We’ve watched in awe as so many of you began your journey,” reads a post on social media. “Feeling every step, every emotion, every revelation alongside you. “To those just joining us: welcome. “Tomorrow comes.” When Bethesda shadow-dropped The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered amid the launch of fellow role-playing...
The creator of Ecco the Dolphin has revealed that not only are there remakes of the original games underway, but a "third" instalment is also in development. Revealed via a brief post on Xbox Wire, Ed Annunziata — the original creator of the famed, and fiendishly difficult, action-adventure games — was interviewed about raising awareness about ocean conservation, his life as a developer, and, right at the end, dropped this bombshell revelation: "Me and the entire original team are going to remaster the original Ecco the Dolphin and Ecco: The Tides of Time games. Then we will make a new, third game with contemporary play and [graphics] sensibilities. Stay tuned." There is, of course, already a "third" game. As the last mainline Ecco...
As if impressive Steam concurrent player numbers and Bethesda’s own announcement of 4 million players wasn’t enough to cement it as a hit, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is now the third best-selling game of 2025 in the U.S. after just one week on sale. Oblivion Remastered, which shadow-dropped on April 22, has a peak concurrent player count of 216,784 on Steam. While impressive, that figure doesn’t tell the whole story, given Oblivion Remastered also launched on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, as well as straight into Game Pass. Now we have a new milestone: after just one week on sale, Oblivion Remastered became the third best-selling game in the U.S. of 2025 so far by dollar sales. That’s according to Circana’s Mat...
The weather’s cooling down, but these digital deals are heating up across every major platform. Whether you’re nursing a post-payday itch or plotting your next backlog binge, there’s a stack of pixel-packed gems going for a song this week. From cult classics and long-awaited sequels to a few industry oddities, there’s something here to make you equip your wallet. This Day in Gaming 🎂 In retro news, I'm celebrating the 10th anniversary of Project C.A.R.S., a series which, sadly, seems to have put the hazards on and parked. It began here as a serious, deep, and demanding racing sim for motorsport purists. It bore no pop punk soundtrack, or explosive takedowns, or generous rewinds. Slightly Mad Studios just set out to capture the...
A big part of the fun with Star Wars Day each year is seeing a new wave of toys and collectibles revealed by companies like Hasbro, Sideshow, and Hot Toys. This year's event certainly didn't disappoint, as we got glimpses of a wide range of upcoming products, ranging from less than $20 to over $1500. What can we say? Being a Star Wars collector is nothing if not an expensive hobby. From Sideshow's epic Luke Skywalker Red 5 statue to Hasbro's nostalgia-heavy Episode III figures to Hot Toys' mind-bogglingly detailed Jar Jar Binks figure, these were the coolest figures and collectibles revealed during Star Wars Day 2025. Hot Toys' Star Wars Figures Hot Toys revealed quite the impressive lineup of 1:6 scale figures for Star Wars Day...
Happy Monday! Microsoft just announced Gears of War: Reloaded, a remaster of the original 2006 game that will launch on August 26 on Xbox, PC and PlayStation. The shiny new version will come with improved visuals and audio, cross-play and cross-progression, and all the DLC from the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. "As we approach the 20th anniversary of Gears of War in 2026, we’re reflecting on what this franchise means. It’s about the stories we’ve told, the friendships we’ve built, and the unforgettable moments we’ve shared together. With Gears of War: Reloaded, we’re opening that door to more players than ever," said Mike Crump, Studio Head at The Coalition in the announcement post. Not only do PlayStation owners get to play, the...
Elden Ring Nightreign is IGN's cover story for the month of May. We got to spend two days at From Software's office in Tokyo, and came back with a heaping of reveals, interviews, hands-on impressions, and more. To kick things off though, we've got the exclusive reveal of one of the eight Nightlords players will be facing off against at the end of a run in Nightreign. Introducing Libra: Creature of Night. This madness inducing boss packs some really interesting mechanics, including a decision you must make at the beginning of the fight where you can decide whether or not to make a deal with the boss to gain some sort of benefit, like gaining more strength, or more elemental resistance, or a very powerful weapon. Be careful, because the...
Developer Ice Code Games (Hard West II, Rogue Waters) have announced Nightmare Frontier, a tactical turn-based strategy game that's also an extraction looter. Think "XCOM meets Hunt: Showdown with a dash of Cthulhu thrown in." Check out the announcement trailer above and the first screenshots in the gallery below. The developers describe the setup for Nightmare Frontier as follows: "The story of Nightmare Frontier unfolds in an alternate version of 19th-century America, shortly after a mysterious event that forever changed the world. The line between reality and an unknown horror has started to fade, and those who remain are left to uncover what truly happened that night – and what’s behind the titular Nightmare. The streets were...

Take a deep breath and remember: Delays are good. OK, that statement isn’t always true, but it usually is. Delayed projects sometimes result in bad games (looking at you, Duke Nukem 3D), but much more often taking more time produces good stuff. Spending meticulous weeks to get something just right matters in art, as does finding the bravery to throw out ideas that seemed wise in concept but never panned out. Think about how many half-finished games you’ve ever bought and played and then wished the publisher had just delayed until it was right and ready. Got that thought in your head? OK, hold onto it. GTA 6 is delayed, and that’s good, because it will probably be better for the delay. Rockstar has a long history of delaying games to...

Valve's MOBA hero shooter Deadlock is still in an invite-only testing phase, as the company continues to develop and iterate. But a recent livestream mix-up looks like it revealed the existence of a second, even more exclusive playtest with some unseen characters and redesigns. Leaks have swirled from a livestream hosted by a top Deadlock player, who reportedly appeared to open the wrong Deadlock build on stream. (Thanks, Eurogamer.) The roster, as shown on-stream and captured by viewers, shows several new faces like the old-school Doorman, bespectacled Bookworm, and gothic Vampirebat, as well as visual alterations for characters like Ivy. Though the streamer quickly closed out after realizing their error, you can't really un-spill...
Stellaris and Crusader Kings 3 developer Paradox Interactive has something "ambitious" to show us next week. While the team stopped short of showing any concrete details at all, it did remind us that Paradox has been developing and publishing strategy games over the last 25 years "that have taken you from the Roman Empire to the stars," and teased it was now "preparing to announce the next major title in the genre." The mysterious new game — known only by its codename, Caesar — has been openly discussed on the studio's forum in a number of "Tinto Talks" developer diaries. Over this time, it has been welcoming community feedback on its feature ideas, key game systems, and historical research, but "now the time has come to reveal Ceasar...
Last Epoch sports a whopping 15 Mastery classes. Masteries are essentially a subclass that allows you to lean in on one aspect of your build. They range from traditional roles like Sorcerer to more out-there options like Falconer (which sees you flying around the map using your bird friend for damage). It can be difficult to choose which ones to focus on with so many options, but this Last Epoch Mastery tier list will help. You’re not locked into one mastery — it’s very common to dip into one or more masteries in any min-maxed build. You can put points into the first half of the passive tree of any other mastery. You can change your mastery at the Respec NPC in the End of Time. How We Ranked the Best and Worst Masteries in Last Epoch...
The release date for Elden Ring Nightreign is closing in fast. Ahead of launch day, FromSoftware and Bandai Namco have released an overview trailer, detailing just what's in store for the co-op survival action game. Today's overview trailer went over what's in store, highlighting the basic set-up and what players will be doing, run after run, in Elden Ring Nightreign. Players drop into a shifting version of Limveld that changes with each attempt, working with players to take down enemies, acquire items, and gain power to help them take down one the Nightlords as a ring of fire encroaches on them. Working together is a crucial part of Elden Ring Nightreign. The trailer showed how players can pick each other back up after falling, and...
Microsoft has revealed which games will be leaving its Xbox Game Pass subscription service on May 15, 2025. In all, eight games are set to depart, including Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, Jurassic World Evolution 2, and Little Kitty, Big City. Xbox Game Pass is an online gaming service for Xbox and PC game platforms where subscribers can stream directly on smart devices and consoles, play new games on day one, depending upon their subscription tier, and access a catalog of hundreds of high-quality games with friends on console, PC, or cloud. It's from the latter that the following eight games are being removed. Games leaving Xbox Game Pass in May are: Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Chants of Sennaar Dune: Spice Wars Hauntii Jurassic...
PlayStation is seemingly pulling its one-time poster child, Sackboy, from its marketing materials. As noted by Realradec, Sackboy was notably absent from the PlayStation Productions banner at the start of the Until Dawn movie, although most of his peers, like Astro Bot, Uncharted's Nathan Drake, and Horizon Zero Dawn's Aloy, still have a place. "Can confirm after seeing Until Dawn that Sackboy is not in the PlayStation Productions intro anymore (picture below is the 2023 version from Gran Turismo)," wrote Realradec. "I don’t like this era of Sackboy erasure," (thanks, PlayStationLifestyle). Once upon a time, Sackboy was the golden child of PlayStation, becoming a mascot for the PlayStation brand in much the same way Sonic is...
If you’ve played The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion or its recently released Oblivion Remastered, you’ll know the opening tutorial section and its iconic 'leaving the Imperial sewers' moment well. You’ll also know all about that shocking death that arrives just before you make your final escape and, blinking, emerge into the beautiful open world of Cyrodiil. Warning! Spoilers for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered follow. The shocking death I’m talking about here is of course the assassination of Emperor Uriel Septim, an assassination he knows is coming and has come to terms with. Veteran fans have replayed Oblivion enough at this point to know it’s coming, too. But back in 2006 when Oblivion first came out, it became a rite of...
Yesterday, IGN revealed Hollow Knight: Silksong will be playable in an Australian museum in September 2025, and shared a sprite sheet taken from the highly anticipated game. And then… Well. The internet internet-ed. "In what situation [is] making a sprite of naked Hornet necessary?" asked one commenter on a Reddit thread dissecting the exclusive sheet. Within the dozens of images of Silksong star Hornet, most of which show her in a range of battle-ready and relaxed poses, there is one that shows Hornet casually carrying her cloak under one arm. (We've included a close-up below, but you can also see it on the original sheet on the right-hand side of the image, immediately under the uppermost ring): "What kind of situation in-game...
When Bethesda shadow-dropped The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered amid the launch of fellow role-playing game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, most thought there could be only one winner. But, according to the publisher of Clair Obscur, not only did Oblivion not harm Clair Obscur, Clair Obscur actually benefitted from Oblivion’s release because it boosted excitement for the RPG genre. So says Kepler Interactive’s senior portfolio manager Matt Handrahan, who told The Game Business all about Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s launch success against the odds. First, some background. RPG fans were faced with the difficult choice between spending hundreds of hours in Oblivion’s Cyrodiil, or embarking on an expedition to take down the Paintress...
