Yasha: Legends of the Demon Blade Review
Repetition is part of the process when it comes to a certain type of action roguelike. That’s not inherently a bad thing, but Yasha: Legends of the Demon Blade commits the cardinal sin of not bolstering the droll byproduct of doing the same thing over and over again with compelling meta-progression or hiding it under an interesting story delivered by characters you can’t wait to hear from. Instead, its few attempts at drama and humor miss more than hit, and its decent combat and interesting weapons are let down by room after room of weak monsters and weaker level design. The “legends” part of the title is literal, with the story of Yasha told and retold across three campaigns with different playable protagonists. Each tale remixes the...
Tekken 8 Boss Says He's Tried To Reach Waffle House For a Crossover, To No Avail
For some time now, Tekken fans have been asking for a trip to Waffle House. Not in real life, mind you, but in-game. And while it sounds like Tekken 8's director is fishing for it, there hasn't been a bit on the line from Waffle House. Over on X/Twitter, Tekken game director Katsuhiro Harada was responding to fans still eagerly asking for a Waffle House stage in Tekken 8. It's a frequent demand that's gained a lot of steam as Harada himself has expressed interest in learning more on the matter. Harada said he "fully understands" fans' requests. So much so, in fact, that he's already been thinking about it, and apparently taken action to try and make something happen. "Over the past year or more, I've actually tried to make contact...

UK-based developer JSS Games has announced Norigin, an upcoming cinematic boss-climbing narrative game with a beautiful art style that's about family and self-discovery. It's in development for PC. As you can see in the full announcement trailer above (as well as in the first screenshots in the gallery below), the bosses you'll be scaling in Norigin are absolutely massive. You'll wander through multiple realms during the course of the story, dealing with dynamic weather and an ever-changing day/night cycle as you seek to reconnect with your father. To learn more and follow along with Norigin's development as it progresses, you can wishlist it on Steam. Ryan McCaffrey is IGN's executive editor of previews and host of both IGN's...
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Player Continues Bethesda Tradition and Spends 7 Hours Lining Up Books for In-Game Dominoes
Veteran Oblivion fans might remember Domino Days, during which players would use the game’s physics system to create a chain reaction of falling objects. It went on to become a Bethesda tradition that was continued with 2023’s Starfield and its more advanced physics. Now, with The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, that tradition lives on, with one player spending seven hours lining up books to get the Dominoes chain reaction just right. Redditor Muaxh03 uploaded the video below showing their work. We see the books slowly fall and knock the following book in a satisfying fashion. Muaxh03 said they did not use mods to place the books, rather placed them one by one, which sounds particularly grueling. They admit to spawning the...
The Precinct Review
Deep in the pre-history of 1997’s original Grand Theft Auto, an earlier gameplay concept that was being noodled on within the halls of DMA Design initially would have had us playing as police. Eventually the call was made to pivot and exclusively focus on the wrong side of the law, because it was decided being a criminal was way more fun than being a boring old cop. GTA as we know it was born and, a bazillion in sales later, it’s hard to argue they made the wrong decision. However, nearly three decades down the track, The Precinct has arrived to remind us that there actually is a way to make upholding the law just as engaging as breaking it, in an old school, GTA-inspired sandbox city. The Precinct may be a modestly sized package...
Ex-Rockstar Veteran Thinks GTA 4 Should Be Remastered: 'Niko Is Still the Best Protagonist in Any GTA'
A former Rockstar veteran has responded to recent rumors that a GTA 4 re-release on the latest generation of consoles could be in the works to say the game should be remastered. The GTA 4 rumor began life with a post from Tez2, who is known within the GTA community for leaking Rockstar information. Tez2 suggested a GTA 4 port for modern systems may be released this year, and its existence was part of the reason Rockstar recently had a GTA 5 Liberty City Mod shut down. However, it’s worth stressing that Rockstar has made no indication it plans to re-release GTA 4, and in truth such a game would come as a huge surprise, given the studio's ongoing focus on GTA 6. Obbe Vermeij, former Rockstar Games technical director who worked at the...
Helldivers 2 Gets New Illuminate Enemies, Weapon Customization and Progression, and Superstore Changes as Part of Huge Update
Helldivers 2 has released a major new update to the game, which adds new Illuminate enemies, weapon customization and progression, and makes changes to the Superstore. Patch 01.003.000 is out now across PC and PlayStation 5. Following a number of teases from developer Arrowhead, Helldivers 2 has unleashed a new invasion push from the Illuminate alien faction. This brings with it new enemies, as detailed on the PlayStation Blog, including the Stingray (jetfighters that provide Illuminate support from the sky, targeting Helldivers and lining up devastating strafing runs), and the Crescent Overseer, which has the ability to lay barrages on Helldivers in cover. There’s also the Fleshmob, which is described as a “failed” Illuminate...
Stellar Blade PC Release Date, Features, New Boss Fight, and 25 New Outfits Revealed by Leaked Sony Trailer
The PC version of Stellar Blade launches via Steam on June 11 along a raft of PC-specific features, a trailer leaked by Sony itself has revealed. The trailer, published by Sony Interactive Entertainment on the PlayStation YouTube channel before it was removed, also revealed a Complete Edition of Shift Up’s popular PS5 action game. As you’d expect, the internet captured the trailer, which we expect will be released officially soon. The Complete Edition includes the base game and all the DLC released so far for both PS5 and PC. The news comes over a year after Stellar Blade’s successful April 2024 launch on PS5. Stellar Blade has all the features you’d expect on PC, including AI upscaling via Nvidia DLSS 4 and AMD FSR 3, an unlocked...
AU Deals: Deep Cuts on Star Wars, Assassin's Creeds, Dooms, CODs, FromSoftware Must Owns, and More!
Whether you’re padding out your backlog or on the prowl for an absolute steal, my bargain list for today is buckling under the weight of some truly sweet picks. From revamped retro gems to blockbuster sagas at pocket-change prices, the sale bins are anything but boring. So let's stop talking in favour of scrolling and saving... This Day in Gaming 🎂 In retro news, I'm celebrating the 33rd birthday of Street Fighter II: Champion Edition, a fighter whose industry impact cannot be overstated. Obviously, 1991's World Warrior was the opening jab, but the Champion Edition revision was a $2.3 billion leg sweep that put Capcom in the top three highest-grossing arcade games of all time list. Nineties gaming gromets like myself queued outside of...
Elden Ring Nightreign Is Taking a Unique Approach to Storytelling – IGN First
Elden Ring is a game steeped with lore. Story details are everywhere, from traditional cutscenes, environmental details, conversations with NPCs, and yes the FromSoft classic: even buried within item descriptions. But Elden Ring Nightreign is a very different type of FromSoft game: It’s an online-driven co-op PVE game with roguelite elements. That makes it a bit difficult to deliver the usual kind of FromSoft narrative. So how is the story in Nightreign conveyed? Well, let’s talk a little bit about Remembrances. Read on and/or watch the video below. So to start, let’s break down what the story of Nightreign even is. And who better to break that down than game director Junya Ishizaki: “Nightreign shares essentially the base setting and...
Tony Hawk Has 'Aspirations' Of Getting a Tony Hawk's Underground Remake
If you've been hankering for a return to Tony Hawk's Underground, you're not alone — Tony himself is "campaigning" for a remake, too. "I always have aspirations," Hawk told ScreenRant. "It's not up to me generally. I'll campaign all I can, but I'm working with a much bigger company that's a lot smarter than me." Asked if Activision had given any indication of what may be next once Pro Skate 3 + 4 is released, Hawk kept his cards close to his chest, replying: "We haven't even released this game [yet]!" Tony Hawk's Underground released way back in 2003, getting an impressive 9.2 review score from us at the time due to its "virtually flawless" level design and "stellar gameplay." For the first time ever in the series, it gave us the...
Palworld Modders Are Restoring Mechanics Pocketpair Was Forced to Patch Out Due to Nintendo and The Pokémon Company’s Patent Lawsuit
Palworld modders are taking matters into their own hands and restoring mechanics that developer Pocketpair was forced to patch out due to Nintendo and The Pokémon Company’s patent lawsuit. Last week, Pocketpair admitted that recent patches made changes to the game that were forced upon it as a result of the ongoing litigation with Nintendo and The Pokémon Company. Palworld launched on Steam priced $30 and straight into Game Pass on Xbox and PC early 2024, breaking sales and concurrent player number records in the process. Pocketpair boss Takuro Mizobe has said Palworld's launch was so big that the developer couldn’t handle the massive profits the game generated. Still, Pocketpair acted swiftly to capitalize on Palworld’s breakout...
Doom: The Dark Ages Global Release Times Confirmed
Bethesda has confirmed the global release times for Doom: The Dark Ages. Doom: The Dark Ages is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, and there's no differentiation between PC and console launch times. Access, however, will depend upon whether or not you've purchased the Premium Edition as that unlocks later today, May 12, a full 48 hours ahead of the official street date. Though not confirmed by Bethesda, some players who received their copy of Doom: The Dark Ages early report that even physical PS5 discs require players to download the full game before they can play. We had a great time with id Software's shooter, writing in IGN's Doom: The Dark Ages review: "Doom: The Dark Ages may strip away the mobility focus of...
Silent Hill f's Horrifying Steelbook is Only Available to Preorder at Amazon UK
Amazon UK customers have been treated with an exclusive opportunity to get a beautifully gross Silent Hill f steelbook with their physical preorders, either on PS5 or Xbox for £69.99. Steelbook editions are usually only sold by one retailer in each region, but the UK seems to have lucked out so far by getting the chance to grab a special case featuring a close-up of protagonist Hinako Shimizu. Amazon in the US only lists preorders for the base version of the game, with no other retailers currently selling a steelbook either. If you're in the US, you can still preorder this version via Amazon UK using international shipping. It’s an especially eerie look featuring the front half of her face cut off, like in the game’s first...
Street Fighter 6 to Appear in Schoolgirl Anime Young Ladies Don't Play Fighting Games
Capcom’s Street Fighter 6 will be hadouken-ing its way into an anime this year. Kadokawa recently revealed a teaser trailer for Young Ladies Don’t Play Fighting Games, an anime adaptation of Eri Ejima’s manga of the same name. The story is set in Kuromi Girls’ Academy, an exclusive school for rich kids which aims to produce refined young ladies. Gaining entry to the prestigious institution on a scholarship is main character Aya Mitsuki, who has played fighting games since elementary school. She soon becomes fascinated by beautiful and graceful fellow student Mio Yorue, nicknamed Shirayuri (white lily). However, appearances can be deceptive, as beneath her elegant exterior, Mio is a tough-talking button-mashing gamer! Will a mutual love...
There's A 'Reason' Why Sephiroth Has a Different Design in the Magic: The Gathering set — But Director Tetsuya Nomura 'Can't Share More,' Sparking Fin
If you've checked out Magic: The Gathering's new Final Fantasy series recently and spotted something a little different about Sephiroth, you're not alone. But director Tetsuya Nomura "can't share" why there's been a change… yet. The Magic: The Gathering x Final Fantasy crossover set has been designed by some of the talented artists behind the games, including Nomura himself, and cards include two designs of Final Fantasy 7's infamous villain, Sephiroth. "This time around, I drew Sephiroth on both the front and back sides of the card," Nomura explained in a statement posted to social media. "I actually drew them so that they would join up if placed one on top of the other, so if you manage to get two of the same card and line them up...
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered's Spectral Horse Discovery Sparks Community-Wide Ghost Hunt to Find Out What Caused 'Spookmane' to Come Into
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is packed with spooky stuff — skeletons, spirits, and even zombies — but no-one can remember seeing this 'ghost horse' in either the original 2006 game or this 2025 remaster. Our story begins with a reddit post by TaricIsNotASupport, who flagged what looks like a spectral horse just... waiting to be found. “So I was crafting stupid spells in Frostcrag Spire, as it’s possibly my favourite way to have fun in this game, however this time when I left the Cosy Chaos Spire that has divided this community so very much I noticed something suuuuuuper strange in the distance,” TaricIsNotASupport began. “I did as any of us of the right mind would do and B-lined it over there like a maniac. To my...
The 10 Best Indie Soulslikes
Recently, Soulsborne fans throughout the world were surprised to learn that FromSoftware’s next big project, The Duskbloods – an online multiplayer game with a quasi-Victorian aesthetic that might be the closest we ever get to Bloodborne 2 – will be locked behind the Nintendo Switch 2’s $449.99 price tag. While the disappointment experienced by undead, hunters, and tarnished alike is understandable, they need not fall prey to the abyss. Ever since the original Dark Souls put FromSoftware on the map in 2011, developers of all shapes and sizes have tried their hand at either replicating or reinventing the company’s compelling, elusive formula. And while many have failed, more than a couple succeeded. Chances are you’re already familiar...

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Dev Opens Game Up to Modders, Who Now Plan to Add Tau and Necrons and a Whole Lot More — but first... a Fishing Mini-
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 fans are rejoicing after the developer handed modders the keys to its internal editor, sparking hope it could ‘do a Skyrim’ and last for years with user-generated content. Game director Dmitry Grigorenko took to the Space Marine 2 modding Discord to announce what he described as “our biggest milestone yet in supporting the modding community.” Developer Saber Interactive has released the official Integration Studio for public use. This is the same editor the developers use internally for all gameplay development. This first release lets modders work with everything from level scenarios to game modes, tinker with AI behavior, abilities and melee combo logic, user interface and HUD elements, and make much...

Those digital and physical shelves are groaning under the weight of excellent discounts today, with hefty savings across all platforms. Whether you're in the mood for eldritch horrors, cosmic exploration, or the wild west, there's something here to justify another hit to the backlog. From high fantasy to noir dystopias, I've found you nothing but the most banger deals actually worth owning. This Day in Gaming 🎂 In retro news, I’m celebrating the 30th (!!!) birthday of Tekken, Namco’s groundbreaking arcade fighter that went toe-to-toe with Virtua Fighter. It was the dawn of a new era: no more sprites, no more two dimensions, just pure 3D face-punching spectacular that (somehow) looked beautiful to mine eyes. Admittedly, this OG got...
Tech Experts Say The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered's Camera Breaks the Longer You Play and Eventually Crashes When Loading a Save, Call for Em
Tech experts say The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has significant performance problems across all consoles as fans wait for a much-needed patch. Oblivion Remastered has enjoyed a hugely successful launch, with over 4 million players and a ‘very positive’ user review rating on Steam. However, if there’s one issue that continues to crop up, it’s performance problems. Digital Foundry has run an extensive analysis on Oblivion Remastered on all console platforms and found the game to have significant problems across the board. DF’s Thomas Morgan said of Virtuos’ Unreal Engine 5 overhaul: How does this manifest itself in-game? According to DF, a “charged” playthrough with more continuous play time behind it performs worse than a...
Waterpark Simulator Announced for PC
CayPlay Studios, a developer cofounded by YouTuber Caylus, has announced its first project: Waterpark Simulator, a first-person game where you build and run your own waterpark. You'll design the slides, manage your employees, and ultimately customize and grow your park. Check out the announcement trailer above and the first screenshots in the gallery below. CayPlay describes Waterpark Simulator like this: "Guests can slip, fall, rage, laugh, or go flying off one of your poorly designed slides. You can spray them with oversized water guns, pelt them with water balloons, or launch them through the air. Your park rating rises (or falls) based on how well you serve your guests, how clean and fun the park feels, and how satisfied people are...
As the Move to $80 Video Games Kicks In, Gamers Point to Mafia: The Old Country and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Hope the $50 Trend Succeeds
Mafia: The Old Country was in 'managing expectations mode' this week, announcing a cheaper than expected $49.99 price point, and confirming that it is absolutely not an open-world game, rather a linear, narrative-driven game. The Hangar 13-developed gangster shooter showed off new gameplay in the trailer, below, and it is impressive indeed. But this is no GTA 6. Indeed, it is no Mafia III. Tellingly, 2K President David Ismailer said of Mafia: The Old Country: "We think there’s a large audience for compelling stories that don’t require massive time commitments.” It felt like a PSA more than a promo. Based on these comments, Mafia: The Old Country will be a relatively short affair. There is no multiplayer mode, so the story is the...

Overwatch 2 Is Getting a Street Fighter 6 Crossover Event and Fans Have Thoughts About The Skin Choices
There have been some truly inspired collabs in gaming, but I never saw this one coming: Overwatch 2 is getting a Street Fighter 6 crossover event. As revealed on X/Twitter — and leaked a few days ago by PlayStation Network — the event goes live on May 20, "taking your fighting skills to the next level when the legendary characters from Street Fighter 6 square off in Overwatch 2," letting Overwatch fans "discover the martial artist in you." Though the teaser isn't very long, it does give us a peek at the characters getting a fresh skin for the collab, including Zenyatta as Dhalsim, Winston as Blanka, Sigma as M. Bison, Hanzo as Ryu, Juno as the inimitable Chun Li, and Soldier: 76 as Guile. We also get to see Chun Li kick the crap out...
Dead by Daylight Is Finally Getting a Five Nights at Freddy's Killer – and He's Voiced by Matthew Lillard
After nine years, Behaviour Interactive is finally bringing Five Nights at Freddy’s to Dead by Daylight – and Matthew Lillard is joining in on the fun. It’s a collaboration that has been in the works for a while, but it wasn’t until today’s Dead by Daylight PAX East presentation that the studio was ready to reveal exactly how it will keep players scared as the asymmetrical multiplayer game approaches its ninth birthday. Freddy Fazbear and his animatronic-filled pizza emporium headline Behviour’s plans for this year’s anniversary chapter, which is expected to arrive in June. Lillard, who starred as William Afton in 2023’s Five Nights at Freddy’s movie adaptation, has embodied the spirit of the role once again to lend his likeness and...
