Grave Seasons Is a Cozy Farming Sim With a Dark Side
On the surface, Grave Seasons might look like any other nice, cozy farming sim like Stardew Valley or Harvest Moon: you’re a stranger who’s come into a farm in the small town of Ashenridge, full of seemingly friendly people. You plant and harvest crops, craft items, and make friends. But there’s a mysterious, unnerving sense that tugged at the back of my neck during my half-hour playing Blumhouse Games and Perfect Garbage’s not-so-cozy farming sim. One that kept me much more engaged than your garden-variety farming game, with its impressively intriguing threads that added a little drop of poison to the well. After a brief intro to the player character, who’s escaped a prison sentence in search of a new beginning, things start getting...
Civ 7 Update Introduces Huge Maps, new Town Specializations, Steam Workshop Support, and More Gwendoline Christie
Firaxis and 2K are committed to reversing the fortunes of Civilization 7 with an all-new update, much of which has been "influenced by the community." This month's "hefty" Update 1.2.2 brings a raft of long-awaited features like Large and Huge Maps, expanded Advanced Game Options, and a community favorite: Steam Workshop support. There's also new Town Specializations, City-State Bonuses, Beliefs, balance changes, UI improvements, and — best of all, of course — "a very pettable Scout dog." Players can also finish their current save under a previous version by using the legacy Steam beta branch. Backwards compatibility for existing saves is also available, although you should note that "some new abilities or effects may not appear until...
Ambitious Minecraft Competitor Hytale Canceled After Nearly 7 Years of Development: 'This Is Not the Outcome Any of Us Wanted'
Hytale, the Minecraft competitor announced in 2018, is canceled and its developer is shutting down. Hypixel Studios announced that the ambitious, Riot Games-backed Minecraft-style game had ended development, and the studio itself was in the process of winding down. Hytale was announced in December 2018 with a trailer that has an incredible 61 million views on YouTube. Here’s the official blurb, as it was back then: Excitement around Hytale was fueled by the experience of the developers themselves, who co-founded Hypixel, one of the most influential Minecraft servers in the world. Riot Games, maker of League of Legends, invested in the project and eventually bought the studio. However, the Hytale dream is now over. “This is not the...
Dune: Awakening Creative Director Lays Out Clear Plans For Improving Endgame And 'Extreme' PvP, Saying: 'We Still Believe In The Core Concept Of The D
Dune: Awakening developer Funcom said it is aware that "players are reporting being cut out of the endgame due to the extremely competitive nature of the Deep Desert." Last week, Funcom assured players in an AMA it was already "formulating a plan" to improve PvP in the Deep Desert, which players have previously branded as "toxic" due to griefing even after patching out the ability for players to squish other people with their Ornithopter. In a candid letter from the creative director, Joel Bylos said: "So let me start by stating this unequivocally — we want PvE players to be able to play the endgame and have access to the content of the endgame. Our goal is not to force PvE players to interact with a PvP system that they may have no...
AU Deals: Seriously Catchable Cuts on Pokémon Legends, Death Stranding 2, Space Marine 2, and More!
Clear the digital cobwebs off your wishlist and stretch those thumbs because some absolute gems are on sale across every major platform this week. Whether you're chasing a retro-style indie for loose change or something AAA to chew on until tax returns hit, there’s something to tempt just about everyone. Enough talk, though. Let's get amongst some bargains! This Day in Gaming 🎂 In retro news, I'm celebrating the 28th birthday of my personal favourite moustache racer, Mario Kart 64. What sold me was its first-in-series 4P multi, and probably about a hundred hours spent doing "winner plays on" 150cc VS. Mode and Block Fort balloon battles at a mate's house. When the surf was crap in Kiama, his headland-based abode basically became the...
Reach Is What You’ll Be Literally Doing in This Surprisingly Captivating VR Game
Reach is one of the coolest VR games I’ve played in a long time. Chasing the high of classic cinematic action games like Tomb Raider or Uncharted, I had a blast climbing ledges, jumping between buildings, and popping enemies while dual-wielding pistols in NDreams' latest. With dynamic movement and a surprisingly accurate sense of full-body awareness, I can’t wait to see more from this one, even if I got a little dizzy jumping as I platformed my way through the first level. VR games often need to tow a delicate balance. Moving in a 3D space with stick-based movement is a surefire way to cause motion sickness for a lot of players, so a majority of VR games are designed in a way that takes both point-and-teleport-based movement and...
Spine Is a Sifu-Meets-Shooter Action Game with a Technofuturist Style
Tucked into a corner of Summer Games Fest, Spine is definitely the kind of game meant to turn heads and grab attention. There is a decidedly late-’90s arcade style to the third-person action title that compels players to grab a controller and see what is going on for themselves. While it’s still early, in my hands-on demo with Spine, I can safely say that it’s absolutely something I’m excited to see evolve as it develops. Aesthetically, Spine fits the cyberpunk-Blade Runner mold of an overcrowded dystopian city with profuse neon-yet-dark corners everywhere. The player assumes the role of a street artist named Redline who, in the demo, has been accused of a crime she did not commit and quickly finds herself surrounded by thugs at a bar...
Ambrosia Sky is a Beautiful, Intimate Clean-‘em-Up Combo of Metroid Prime and Powerwash Simulator
Sometimes, a story finds you at the right time, hits you in the right place, speaks to a part of you you’ve kept buried, deep down. When we find a connection with a piece of art, much of that connection is forged because of when we find it, not just what it has to say. I stumbled onto Ambrosia Sky at the right time, and it spoke to me. No game at Summer Game Fest hit me harder, but I like to think that Ambrosia Sky would have resonated with me no matter when I found it, which is a testament to how developer Soft Rains has crafted this world. Part of this is the conceit, which is unlike anything else I’ve seen in a video game. Ambrosia Sky follows Dalia, a deep-space disaster specialist known as a Scarab. Scarabs are mystical field...
Beavis and Butt-Head Are Coming to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone With Season 04 Reloaded — and Players Are Joking They’re More MilSim Than Mos
Rekindling the long-running debate about whether Call of Duty skins have well and truly gone off the deep end, Beavis and Butt-Head are heading to the game. Beavis and Butt-Head are perhaps the poster boys of the MTV generation and genuine 90s cartoon icons. Created by Mike Judge, Beavis and Butt-Head are two idiotic teen slackers who sit around grunting and giggling at rock music on MTV. Call of Duty has form when it comes to 90s-themed skins, so perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised to see Beavis and Butt-Head finally get their moment in the shooter. But what is perhaps surprising is how their skins look, which is a jarring combination of the cartoon style fans know Beavis and Butt-Head for, but wearing MilSim outfits. “Of all the...
Dune: Awakening Sells 1 Million Copies, Making It Funcom's Fastest-Selling Game Ever
Dune: Awakening has sold over 1 million copies in two weeks. Developer Funcom announced the news earlier today, confirming that to go along with a superb launch with a "very positive" user review rating on Steam, over 1 million players "have awakened," making it Funcom's "fastest-selling game ever." "Dune: Awakening launched June 10 and 1,000,000 players have awakened!" the studio said. "It’s now Funcom’s fastest-selling game ever. To put it into perspective, it took Conan Exiles one year to reach this number. We’re truly humbled and thankful for this reception. It must also be noted that you certainly don’t live up to your title, because you have been busy since launch. "Launch has been a Coriolis storm, and we’re still riding that...
Canceled Batman Arkham Knight Follow-Up Concept Art Shows a Grizzled Bruce Wayne
Concept art from a long-canceled Batman Arkham Knight follow-up set to star Damian Wayne as the Dark Knight has surfaced online, giving us our best look yet at an aged Bruce. Project Sabbath, as it was known, was in development at Batman Arkham Origins studio Warner Bros. Games Montreal after the launch of 2015's Arkham Knight, and would have featured two Batmen — father and son. Ultimately, however, the project was canceled by Warner Bros. and WB Games Montreal instead shifted focus to launch 2022's poorly-received Gotham Knights, a game with no Batmen at all. At the time, Sabbath was planned as Warner Bros' next big Batman game, while Rocksteady itself explored concepts featuring other characters. Of course, Rocksteady itself...
Cyberpunk 2077's Next Big 2.3 Update Has Been Delayed Until The Team is 'Happy' — But CD Projekt Teases It's 'Aiming' For Something As Impressive As U
Cyberpunk 2077's next big update — Update 2.3 — was due to release on Thursday June 26, but it's now indefinitely delayed as the team needs more time to ensure "we're happy with it." While CD Projekt Red did not supply a revised release date at this time, it did tease that it expected this latest update to be "a scope similar to Update 2.2," which significantly expanded the game's customization options when it released towards the end of last year. "We initially hoped to put Update 2.3 in your hands on June 26," CD Projekt Red wrote in a brief message on social media. "However, we'll need some more time to make sure we're happy with it — we're aiming for a scope similar to Update 2.2. We'll update you further as soon as we can! We...
Doom: The Dark Ages Limited Edition Xbox Controller Has Dropped to Just £58 at Amazon UK
Gaming deals have steadily been coming in since Amazon’s upcoming Prime Day was announced, and this bargain on DOOM: The Dark Ages Limited Edition Xbox Controller being available for £58.49 is a big one. Launched in line with DOOM: The Dark Ages, this once-£74.99 controller is now 22% off. There’s no “limited time deal” sticker like on other Amazon offers, so we assume this is while stocks last. After Microsoft increased prices on consoles & controllers back in May, the RRP for a special edition controller like DOOM: The Dark Ages went up to £74.99. This means that if you want to get a brand new unique controller without crippling your wallet as much, you have to look out for offers like this. Among the various SE controllers for...
Huge Warhammer 40,000: Darktide Battle for Tertium Update Goes Live Alongside New Class, the Adeptus Arbites
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide developer Fatshark has released the Battle for Tertium update, with the new Adeptus Arbites class DLC also set to go live. Patch notes are below. This comes alongside the free Battle for Tertium update. This reworks the core player experience “to provide a new clearer narrative focus, following the conflict of the Battle for Tertium,” Fatshark said. Players will now experience a linear campaign with new mission debriefs and embedded cinematics. This new progression path is designed to “ease in new players and gradually unlock features that were previously...
Daredevil Star Charlie Cox Says He Feels Like ‘A Total Fraud’ Whenever Someone Congratulates Him for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s Success: ‘I Was in
Charlie Cox’s name and voiceover work are attached to one of the front-runners for 2025 game of the year, but that hasn’t stopped the Daredevil star from feeling like “a total fraud” whenever he receives congratulations for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s success. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is the debut title from French studio Sandfall Interactive, and it has outperformed all expectations. It sold an appropriate 3.3 million copies in 33 days, which is a wonderful return for a game everyone thought was going to get crushed by The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Cox, who plays party member Gustave, is among Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s star-studded cast, which also includes Jennifer English as Maelle, Ben Starr as Verso, and...
Co-Op Climbing Game Peak Takes Steam by Storm, Reaches Summit of Top Sellers Chart
Peak, a co-op climbing game from the team behind Another Crab's Treasure, is taking Steam by storm, selling 1 million copies in just six days. According to Steam's official top-selling games chart, which sorts games by revenue on Valve's platform, Peak is ahead of the likes of Dune: Awakening, Stellar Blade, and Elden Ring Nightreign, albeit at a significantly lower price. Peak hit an impressive... peak concurrent player figure of 102,799 yesterday, June 23, which was enough to make it one of the most-played games on Steam over the weekend. "Why did this stupid jam game sell more copies than Another Crab's Treasure?" posited a facetious post by developer Aggo Crab on Bluesky. "I'm gonna crash out." A follow up tweet, however, thanked...
MindsEye Developer Build a Rocket Boy Begins Layoff Process Amid Disastrous Launch, Studio Sources Say
Build A Rocket Boy has told staff a redundancy process has begun amid the disastrous launch of MindsEye. The cuts could affect over 100 employees, studio sources have told IGN. One person, who asked to remain anonymous in order to protect their career, told IGN there’s no word yet on exactly how many staff are affected, but the standard 45-day consultation process starts today, June 23, which according to UK law is triggered when an employer proposes 100 or more redundancies within a 90-day period. IGN understands Build A Rocket Boy currently has around 300 UK employees, with around 200 abroad. IGN has asked Build A Rocket Boy for comment. Staff now face an anxious wait to find out whether they will be affected. Meanwhile, there are...
Monster Hunter Wilds Title Update 2 Details, Including Release Date, Leaked by PlayStation
Whoops — Sony just leaked Monster Hunter Wilds' Title Update 2 via the official PlayStation website. The changes have been rolled back now, naturally, but for a brief while the Monster Hunter Wilds page on the PlayStation Store revealed the update is set to release on June 30. As well as a firm release date, Sony's website also confirmed we'll be getting more events, layered weapons, the Leviathan Arch-Tempered Uth Duna, and two "fan-favorite" monsters — one is definitely Lagiacrus, the underwater leviathan, with the other widely speculated to be Seregios, based on datamine sources. Oh, and this cosmetic armor set has also been discovered, too: Capcom had told us to expect the “latest news” on the company’s upcoming games, as well...
Best Borderlands 4 Prices, Deep Diablo 4 and PS5 Slim Cuts, an 85% Off EA Sale, and More!
This week’s digital (and physical) shelves are groaning under the weight of some truly tempting game deals. Whether you're keen to revisit a cult classic, explore bold new IPs, or finally fill in a few of those backlog gaps, there’s never been a better excuse to buy now and play... eventually. This Day in Gaming 🎂 In retro news, I’m lighting a 31-candle cake for Night Trap, a live-action FMV horror-adventure that dropped onto my Mega-CD in 1993 and quickly became ground zero for one of gaming’s first big moral panics. The premise was simple: switch between surveillance cameras to protect teens from trench-coated “Augers” using elaborate traps. The execution, however, was campy, confusing, and about as scary as a haunted house staffed...
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Reveals Nickelodeon Collaboration That Adds SpongeBob SquarePants, Avatar, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Guest Characters
Earlier this month, Sega confirmed Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds guest characters such as Hatsune Miku, Ichiban Kasuga (Yakuza), Joker (Persona 5), and even Steve, Alex, and Creeper from Minecraft. But the guest characters do not stop there. Sega has now announced a Nickelodeon collaboration that brings SpongeBob SquarePants to the track — and teased Avatar and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles characters down the line. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is a kart racer packed with Sega characters and as such celebrates the company’s history. In addition, big-name guest characters are helping to flesh out the roster of racers. As part of that, those who buy the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Digital Deluxe Edition get the Season Pass, which includes the...

Splitgate 2 Dev 1047 Games Hit by Layoffs Amid Turbulent Launch, Co-Founders Say They Won’t Take Salaries ‘As We Lock in to Deliver the Next Phase of
Splitgate 2 developer 1047 Games has confirmed an undisclosed number of layoffs, with the co-founders of the studio opting not to take salaries as they bid to turn things around. The free-to-play ‘Halo with portals’ shooter launched under a cloud after co-founder and director Ian Proulx took to the Summer Game Fest stage wearing a hat that read ‘Make FPS Great Again.’ During his speech, Proulx called out Call of Duty in what was considered a marketing gaffe. When Splitgate 2 launched, it did so with a battle royale mode and a heavily criticized $145 microtransaction bundle. Splitgate 2 saw a peak concurrent player count of 25,785 on Steam, well below Splitgate’s 67,724 peak concurrent player count. Steam user reviews remain on...

Duke Nukem Rights Acquired by Devil May Cry and Castlevania Showrunner
Netflix’s Castlevania and Devil May Cry showrunner Adi Shankar has turned his attention to the Duke Nukem series after acquiring the screen rights from Gearbox Software. The animated adaptation creative lead teased his next project during an interview with Esquire. Although projects like Devil May Cry Season 2 are currently top of mind, it sounds like something based on the legendary tongue-in-cheek first-person shooter franchise is currently in the works. “I'm being approached with different IPs and companies that want to work with me,” Shankar said. “I bought the rights to Duke Nukem. Not the gaming rights, but I bought it from Gearbox.” Duke Nukem is an unmistakably ‘90s video game franchise that got its start in 1991, but it...

Rockstar Fans Think They've Worked Out the Truth Behind Those Red Dead Redemption Teases — and It's Not What They Were Hoping For
Red Dead Redemption fans believe they've now worked out the truth behind recent teases that suggested something was going on with Rockstar's beloved cowboy franchise — but it's not what many fans had been hoping for. Last week, John Marston actor Rob Wiethoff teased that he had "exciting news" to share that was "absolutely killing" him to keep quiet, while chatting with fans during a livestream. Wiethoff suggested that, whatever the news was, fans would hear about it by the end of this week — and that he wouldn't be the only one sharing it. The mystery deepened when Red Dead Redemption 2's Arthur Morgan actor Roger Clark subsequently confirmed that he was also aware of the news, but couldn't yet say more. Immediately, fans began to...

Deltarune Chapter 5 Will Release in 2026
After a three-year wait between previous chapter releases of Deltarune, developer Toby Fox is promising a faster turnaround on the next episode of the saga. Chapter 5 is currently set for a 2026 release. This information was revealed in the end credits of Deltarune Chapter 4, which released alongside Chapter 3 earlier this month. No further specificity about dates or windows was given. Deltarune is a "sequel" of sorts to beloved indie RPG Undertale, and has released chapter by chapter starting in 2018, with Chapter 2 releasing in 2021 and the two most recent chapters dropping alongside the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this month. The game follows a human named Kris who lives in a peaceful town of monsters familiar to...
Three Weeks In, Elden Ring Nightreign Players Are Inventing Some Creative Ways to Skip Around the Map
It's been roughly three weeks since Elden Ring Nightreign dropped on May 30, and players have started to get their heads around all the different tools and abilities available to them in Limveld. What some are starting to do with those abilities, though, is pretty fascinating. One of the top posts on the r/Nightreign subreddit this morning was from user u/Quantam-Law, who was playing with a Raider under the username "BRO....". BRO had a pretty great idea: the trio of Nightfarers had the Noklateo Shifting Earth event, and rather than storm the front gate of the city, BRO popped Raider's ultimate to provide a new platform for entry. Noklateo, and other Shifting Earth events, are random, map-changing alterations that can appear, adding...
