Can you explain the VAC ban?

It was abour 3 years ago in dungeon deffenders my freind gave me some super high level items that he changed the stats on after about 6 months of not playing i log on and forgot about them as soon as i loggged on i got vac ban, have never hacked/done anything myself

VAC won't ban you for receiving items with changed stats, you'll only get banned for things you did on your own PC, what else did you do?

i may have leveled up to my freinds level so we could play the same levels but that was years ago.
