Welcome to Tarisland: Mystery of the Hollows, a Game Bringing Balance to the World of MMORPGs

Whether it’s games, movies, music, or even food, the best art is usually the result of someone transitioning from loving fan to passionate creator. This couldn’t be truer about the game developer known as Locojoy. Their project with Level Infinite is proof of that fact. In 2023, they set out to create a fair (read: free from pay-to-win), raid-focused MMORPG with gamers like themselves in mind. The team’s influences over the years include classic MMOs like Ever Quest and Ultima Online, so it’s no wonder that an immersive experience, social enjoyment, and challenging events that require team strategy are crucial elements they would focus on for their project: Tarisland: Mystery of the Hollows. As they transition from players to game developers, we’re here with all the updates on why you should check out their new project.

A World at War

Tarisland: Mystery of the Hollows for PC and mobile promises to deliver a unique and immersive gameplay experience with classic MMORPG gameplay, deep character customization, and challenging dungeons and raids. The game developer’s commitment to fair and balanced gameplay, no game-altering pay-to-play items, and cross-platform accessibility seek to make Tarisland stand out from other modern MMORPGs. Intending to create a game accessible and enjoyable for every player, Locojoy seeks a level playing field where everyone has an equal chance to become powerful and achieve greatness.

Set on the planet of Tarisland, Tarisland: Mystery of the Hollows showcases a world at the center of a fierce battle between three warring deities. The team has gradually shared more about the rich backstory in a series of character class reveals and short vignettes on the game’s official website. From what we know now, Asheron, the god of disaster, and Moira, the god of destiny, are two warring deities in a conflict sparked by an accident of fate and your awakening. Players will explore Tarisland, battling through dungeons and raids alongside friends, perfecting builds for highly customizable character classes, and seeking the ever-coveted loot to improve their capabilities. After all, what’s an MMORPG without loot?

The game promises a rich mixture of PVE and PVP content, regularly expanded and refreshed through seasonal updates. Cross-play among PC and mobile platforms also means there are several ways to join the adventure and get into the fight.

Taking a Different Path

One of the features that set Tarisland: Mystery of the Hollows apart from others is Locojoy’s commitment to never selling attribute-enhancing items to players. The game is founded on the principle that pay-to-win has no place in MMORPGs. This approach is felt throughout the game, balanced around organic player growth rather than encouraging excessive spending. This level playing field in gameplay is matched in technology, as well, with Tarisland available to play on PC and mobile interchangeably. Players can log in on their PCs and/or mobile devices and experience the same content and gameplay regardless of their platform!

Play Your Way

Tarisland: Mystery of the Hollows boasts deep and flexible character customization, with seven distinct classes, each with two specializations, and tons more variety via talent trees. Each specialization has its specific talent tree, and players can choose particular paths within these specialized trees. Classes include the ice-and-thunder-wielding Barbarian Fighter, the beast-taming Ranger, the Mage, a master of fire and frost, and the protective Paladin! Other classes include the Bard, Warrior, and Priest. According to the game’s developers, it’s important to weigh each class’s unique powers against one another and seek balance when building out your crew.

The game also features challenging dungeons and raids, such as the Chaotic Library, designed for five players, and Camp Carlyan, a descent into an open pit infested with the Black Flag Army of the Parkers, led by the notorious pirate Reggiepike. Camp Carlyan is inspired by Chile’s Chuquicamata Mine, while the Parkers are promised to be one of the toughest challenges for players looking for the rarest of loot. Tarisland: Mystery of the Hollows will feature raids for larger player groups, some with multiple phases, complex mechanics, and towering bosses. The latter will likely be the best place to hunt for unique endgame rewards.
