Crystal Dynamics has announced that The Winter Soldier is joining the roster of playable characters in Marvel's Avengers on November 29.
Announced in a blog post on the game's website, Crystal Dynamics revealed that The Winter Soldier will arrive alongside Cloning Lab Omega-Level Threat in Update 2.7.
The Winter Soldier appears to be a completely fresh character (instead of a clone like Jane Foster is to Thor) but the post did say elements of Captain America and Black Widow can be seen in his move-set.
"He adds to the roster an almost purely assault-focused hero focused on dealing damage to his enemies in a variety of ways," the post reads. "Players will find multiple different builds and playstyles to embody that character fantasy, from the ranged marksman to an expert hand-to-hand combatant, to the deadly super-soldier."
"While echoes of Bucky’s past training partners like Captain America and Black Widow can be seen in some of his move-set, he has made them his own and combined them with skills that flow from his Winter Soldier indoctrination and his cybernetic enhancements.
"Players will find all new animations, a new full skill tree, and heroic abilities all his own when they enter a mission as the Winter Soldier."
The Winter Solider will also have his own mission chain which promises an emotional story focused on the character's difficult past, and alongside the new Omega-Level Threat end-game content, players will seemingly have plenty to dig into when the update drops on November 29.
Crystal Dynamics has promised that more information on The Winter Soldier, Update 2.7, and what comes after will be revealed in the lead-up to its release.
In our 6/10 review of the game at launch, IGN said: "Marvel's Avengers' campaign is fun and endearing, but the loot-based post-game meant to be the meat of this meal is unrewarding and overly repetitive."
