Steam Deck Receives Custom Startup Feature as It's Discounted for the First Time Ever

Valve is celebrating the Steam Deck's first birthday, and it's giving it two birthday presents: a custom startup feature and a 10% discount.

In a blog post published today, Valve explained that it added the custom startup feature to the Steam Deck after plenty of owners figured out how to create startup animations of their own, such as the PS2-style bootup sequence made by Twitter user @TheHazarduz. Now you can find other startup movies, such as the confetti-themed animation made by Valve just for the occasion, in the Steam Points Shop for only 3,000 points.

You can set the startup movie you picked out from the Steam Points Shop or the custom one you made by going to Settings > Customization. You can also enable the shuffle toggle so that the Steam Deck plays random startup animations when you turn it on.

Steam Deck gets discount for the first time

For those who haven't bought the Steam Deck already, you can save some money and get it 10% off for the very first time. This means that the 64GB model which normally costs $399 for just the Steam Deck and carrying case has been discounted to $359.10.

The 256GB model, which comes with the rapid fast NVMe SSD storage and Steam Community profile bundle, is down from $529 to $476.10. Meanwhile, the 512GB model, which comes with the aforementioned perks and the anti-glare etched glass and virtual keyboard theme, is slashing its price from $649 to $584.10.

The Steam Deck will be 10% off for the duration of the Steam Spring Sale, which will run through March 23 at 10 a.m. PT. The sale applies to all shipping regions, including Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. You got all week to take advantage of this sale, so you better act fast!
