During the PlayStation State of Play, a brand new trailer teased the story and gameplay of Silent Hill: Townfall.
Unlike most Silent Hill games, this one will be first-person and not set in the town of Silent Hill at all. Players will sneak around a spooky town in Scotland, using items like bottles to distract monsters to avoid direct conflict. Townfall isn't the first Silent Hill game, but it is the first premium title in the series to change perspectives. Hideo Kojima famously tried to take the series in a new direction with Silent Hills and utilized a first-person perspective with the game's teaser, known as PT. Unfortunately, Konami pulled the plug on it during a public break-up with Kojima. It left many craving not only a new Silent Hill game, but one that embraced a first-person POV.
Silent Hill: The Short Message also utilized a first-person persecptive, but that was a short, free-to-play experience as part of Konami's efforts to revitalize Silent Hill. Despite not taking place in the titular town, Townfall will embrace the themes and aesthetics of the franchise by having the main character explore a spooky, misty town which he is mysteriously linked to. The trailer also confirmed that Silent Hill: Townfall is releasing on September 24 for PS5 and PC.
Silent Hill: Townfall is the third Silent Hill game since Konami revived the series a few years ago. Konami is now at the end of the slate of Silent Hill games it announced back in 2022. However, it is not the end of the publisher's plans for the horror series. Bloober Team is remaking the original Silent Hill game and Konami will likely continue to produce more games after that.
