Well, how does everyone else feel about kits? And a bit of encouragement for factions to recruit new players? Any other suggestions?

Making people a God for an hour and kits has been done before. Just removed as I thought it wasn't a necessity. I can easily make plans for this to be re-implemented if you like.

Well the problem is, everyone would tell people to do /buyrank private when they joined, becuase people seemed to want to PvP 5 minutes after joining. Half the time people are rushing at the side that has the people camping it anyway, so it's their own fault for dieing.

I wouldn't say give them god, just a starter kit to get started

Maybe Spawn can offer Wooden tools for free, and a stone for the first time. kinda so if you die, you can get the basic wood sword and tools, and leather shirt and pants?

I was thinking of an interesting system before. Could be done with staff or Factions. Basically some group of people builds a housing complex for noobs to rent out for periods of one week. The faction would own the land so no one can steal from your area. This gives a source of revenue for factions able to actively protect people and keep threats of them getting attack to extreme minimums. I was even thinking of having a public vault that the faction/admins would keep track of, a place where people can keep their diamonds and other junk. Alternatively, if you expand spawn majorly, you could have set chunks of land for a price of 500 coins a week, this encourages voting, but players aren't going to want to have 65% of their money they get from voting going back to the server, so it promotes people leaving spawn when ready. You could even regen the chunks after each owner leaves, makes it so people can mine the chunk out with no problems.

Alternatively, you could argue that the current system encourages groups of people to act as guards and escorts. But, seeing as noobs have no money unless they voted, this wouldn't be very profitable.

Laithes, it's the fact that the place people are rushing to is also the place with lots of interesting buildings that they'd like to look at! :p

Anyways, I don't think that giving them protection is going to help, but I think that kits will allow the people coming on wanting to pvp immediately will get that chance. That chance to pvp immediately will satisfy most new players, and lead to a steadily increasing population. M1's idea could also work, but with stone tools instead of wooden tools. Obviously, changing the spawn to that board and giving them a few commands to get started would also be required. Anyways, let's not completely change to the subject of making it easier for new players when the subject is server population growth! I'd like to see what others think about the coins for referring idea.

Stone may be too much, however, my idea would be to give people the bare minimum for free when they die, if they have money a shop at spawn can give them a stone kit, and the shop also provides a wooden kit for free (Once per life if possible) to those who don't have the money for the stone kit.

I see. Well, if the stone kit is cheap, your idea works. I still want some more ideas and some opinions on the referral thing.

adding a speef arena under the spawn. and it be played 2 times a day. prize being 2 or 3 hundred coins.

Or Maybe

a Capture The Record (Capture The flag) would be fun as well. have 2 teams on each side of a big battle field. each team has 10 minutes to gather materials and find a place to put the chest (with there record) on there side. objective being to capture the opposing teams record. maybe do it 1 time a week. (Erskew, Ew )

and aggravate is already moving on with this with his announcement of a mob island every WEEK.

Could work, but you'd have to regulate it etc.

You don't want people making forum accounts and saying writing in the referals thread

'I've been referred by Dannie' when it could well be me just typing up bullshit. You would probably have to monitor how long they play etc. As you may of noticed by now I like keeping a fair economy and a lot of suggestions can quite easily ruin that.

  • A starter kit that is automatically given the FIRST time you start.
  • 1 hour PvP protection.
  • Spawning in a 'rules' room.

They're respectable ideas which i'll think over.--- merged: Aug 10, 2011 at 4:15 AM ---

You may have noticed on the Event's server that there is more than one event set up. Ew ( Event manager ) has about 5 - 6 events set up. Unfortunately hes sick, we hope him a speedy recovery!

Here's what I think a simple system for referring and getting rewards could be.

-150 coins per referral, paid after 1 week of the referred player playing on Aggression.

-As stated above, 1 week until it is given out.

-Players are monitered to make sure they aren't just alt accounts (this would be both players moving, chatting, etc, while an alt account would be one doing stuff while the other does nothing).

With a system that simple, players will be paid for truly referring members. ;)

Monitoring is a problem though, wouldn't you agree?

How much time did you have tonight to check referrals, you had a hack report every 3 seconds xD

I know no one wants to say it, but beefing up the hardware running Aggression would be a great stride.

The fact is, when we have 40+ people online, it starts to lag, this makes people leave the server, not because they couldn't enjoy it, but because the lag made it that way. I know we already have some amazing hardware running this monster, but if there was anything we could do to improve it, we would be far better off.

No point in trying to get 60 players if all they'll do is sit in spawn and complain about lag.

It's not -always- like that. I think that I could handle it.

I think this needs to wait until Noodle is back. ;)

the Server's hardware is pretty good from what I know. and considering a sibling server in the terms of hardware I couldn't get to lag with mountains of TNT exploding. May be something else causing lag.
