Hello, My PC has been having thermal episodes continuously and frequently. These thermal episodes or I should just say episodes because I'am not 100% positive that they are heat related (although nearly positive). Well any ways, as I was saying these episodes started right off the bat 6 or 7 months ago when I built my PC. So my first guess would be that my heatsink cant properly dissipate my CPU's heat. Even though that is my first guess I'am absolutely clueless on how to proceed.

Recap:
1 - If anyone could help me find out for SURE that these episodes are thermal issues then that would be wonderful.
2 - If anyone could help me find out what it is that is causing the thermal issue (if it turns out to be purely thermal) that would also be fantastic.
3 - And if you guys are kind enough to help me solve those two issues then last but not least it would be great if I could get help fixing the issue whatever it may be.

If you guys are willing to help me out. That would be great.
Oh, and I would be glad to leave System Specs if needed.

Specs please. also get Speedfan, CPUz, and or GPUz for system monitoring.

I ask for that cause random reboots can be just as easily power related as heat related.

also waiting 6-7 months on such a issue isn't a good thing as well. 😛

CPU - Intel Sandy Bridge i7 3930K at 3.2 Ghz
CPU Cooling - Dynatron R17 Heatsink
GPU - MSI Nvidia 210 (would have put my new 670 in if it wasnt having issues)
PSU - OCZ Fatality 550 Watt
HDD - 2 Western Digital 500 GB
Motherboard - Gigabyte UD3

OS - Windows 7 64Bit

I seem to have figured it out. It was just a thermal issues. I took my side panel off and then turned up the AC and it hasn't overheated in for days of constant running.

Yea, you got a heat sink that is weaker than the standard Intel coolers you can get for that socket.

So if I get a more heavy duty heatsink would that fix the issue. Because I would prefer my side panel to be on my computer and I would prefer a room above 5o degrees

what case you got, and how much more room do you have, and what mobo and RAM (Actually, an image of the PC's mobo could help too)

Mobo - Gigabyte UD3
RAM - Corsiar Vengeance 4Gb DIMMS x 2

My internet is being stupid, but look at the Corsair H80 if your case has a rear 120mm fan spot, it would fit on that.

scythe makes a nice 120mm fan for the back ..... ive got one, its a bit noisy so i took it out but it for sure gets the job done.

Ok, here is the H80 in Push/Pull config, it will fit in most cases in the back 120mm fan mount.

(Edit, This is what it looks like in a Socket 1366 system, now as for your system, your system ram height could potentially be a problem?)

Ok I have looked into buying a larger case and putting a H100 into it. So thanks

Of course 😛 if you don't plan to overclock, Intel makes several air coolers for 2011 as well.

Well if I do plan to overclock maybe a small amount. (like 3.8 to 4.2) would a H100 be sufficient?

yea a H100 should be able to hold up to 4.5 to 5.0 (Maybe 4.8 on the six cores)

Suggest as a Former IT guy... a liquid cooling system, for the CPU block... that is controllable to help dissipate the heat...
