Hades 2 to Hit Early Access in Spring 2024

Hades II will be released in Early Access next spring.

Supergiant Games announced in a blog post today that the sequel to the award-winning 2020 indie roguelite dunegon crawler will be released in Early Access exclusively on Steam and Epic Games Store in Q2 of 2024, so sometime between next April and June. The anticipated sequel released its first trailer during its reveal announcement at last year's Game Awards and in its blog post today, Supergiant anticipated responses along the lines of "the game looked pretty far along in the first trailer!"

"The reason [for the wait] is, Hades II will have at least as much content from day one in Early Access as the original game did back when it launched in Early Access on Steam," Supergiant said. "And, even though Early Access inherently means a game is not yet complete, we still want to do everything we can to make sure Hades 2 is worth your while as soon as you can play it in any capacity."

HADES II Development Update! 💀🌒🌕🌘💀

We've been making steady progress since our reveal at The Game Awards, and getting close to an Early Access launch some months from now, in Q2 2024.

Supergiant expects to have more details on pricing and system requirements closer to that Early Acess date.

Shortly before Hades II launches in Early Access, though, Supergiant said that it will conduct a technical test with a small sample of select players to get feedback on any technical or compatibility issues it may have overlooked. More details of the game's technical test will be announced closer to when it's ready.

The dev went on to iterate how important the Early Access period was for the first Hades, and it believes that the timeframe should act as a "'sweet spot' where the game is far enough along that player feedback won't mostly consist of stuff we already know isn't there yet, but isn't so far along that it's too late in development for us to act on the feedback we receive."

"Similar to how we approached Early Access with the original, following our Hades II Early Access launch, we'll have several Major Updates adding the rest of the game's core content and refining what's there based on player feedback," Supergiant added. "The story will expand with each update, as we introduce more characters, and deepen relationships with existing ones."

It's the first real chunk of news we've gotten on Hades II since its surprise reveal over nine months ago. The first game, of course, was a critical and commercial hit, with IGN calling it in our 9/10 review "a one-of-a-kind rogue-lite that sets the bar for creatively combining wildly different genres together and using their strengths to complement each other in unexpected ways."
