Hades, developed by Supergiant Games, follows Zagreus the son of Hades (the God) as he battles his way out of the hellscape of Hades (the place) to meet his estranged mother, Persephone. As is the case with most roguelike games, Zagreus engages in fast-paced action, dies, and washes down the River Styx, perilous trek out of Hades again. Hades however, spices things up by drip feeding some tantalizing story beats in between runs and having Zagreus's well-off family members — like the god of love Aphrodite and the god of wine Dionysus — gift him new abilities to aid him in his journey. How nice of them. It's quite literally the least they can do.

We first learned Hades was coming to iOS last November. Much like other games available on Netflix, Hades won't have any pesky ads, in-app purchases, or extra fees (for now). It'll just be an old-fashioned video game you can play on your iPhone or iPad.

Hades' jump to the popular streaming service will not only give people (who have active subscriptions) the opportunity to play IGN's Game of the Year 2020 - it also bolsters Netflix's growing games library. Come March 19, Hades will join the likes of games like Shovel Knight: Pocket Dungeon, Dead Cells, Tomb Raider Reloaded, OXENFREE, and Valiant Hearts: Coming Home, to name a few.

In our review of Hades, we wrote " one-of-a-kind rogue-lite that does a brilliant job of marrying its fast-paced action with its persistent, progressing story through a vividly reimagined Greek mythological underworld."
