Hot on the heels of Ninja Gaiden's own 2D revival with the excellent Ragebound, Double Dragon Revive comes off more like a tribute band for the series rather than a proper reunion tour. It doesn't play the hits how you remember it, instead putting its own spin on things – from how it looks, to how it sounds, to how it plays. All of those aspects not only fail to live up to my admittedly mild expectations for a new Double Dragon, but after hours of its out of tune meandering, started to cement the idea that maybe we should put a little more distance between attempts to revitalize this series. Even though I've been playing these games for most of my life it's sort of jarring how straightforward Double Dragon Revive is. Side scrollers of...
Gearbox has said the hotly anticipated Borderlands 4 patch that will finally dull crit knife builds is delayed again and will now launch alongside the Horrors of Kairos mini-event. Borderlands 4’s 'Day 30 Update' was set to launch last week but was delayed to early this week. Fans had wondered when it would turn up after another no-show today, prompting developer Gearbox to say it’s now due out alongside Horrors of Kairos, which runs from October 23 to November 6. “Glad you’re excited for the update!” Gearbox is posting on social media in response to questions about the patch. “We have a few things we're tidying up right now, and it’ll be rolling out with the Horrors of Kairos mini-event. We can’t wait for you to see what we’ve been...
Gothic first-person shooter Painkiller first graced our screens in 2004, and it built a cult following thanks to its fast pace, dark atmosphere, weapon arsenal, and intense combat. Now it’s back with a modern reimagining with the same name from developer Anshar Studios and publisher 3D Realms that’s out now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. If you’re not familiar with Painkiller, the central concept is you play as someone trapped in Purgatory because of your previous transgressions, but you get a mission to redeem yourself and earn your way into Heaven. In this reimagined version, that mission is simple: stop the fallen angel Azazel and his three children, the Nephilim. While that’s the explanation for the setting, this isn’t...
There’s plenty going on in Crimson Desert’s open world. From puzzles to castle sieges to blowing up enemies with a battle robot, there’s a wide range of activities to get stuck into. But from what we’ve seen so far, the real show stoppers are the boss battles. As part of this month’s IGN First, we’ve already shown you two new ones: the Golden Star mechanical dragon, and Fortain, The Cursed Knight. But there’s still more to see. Today, we’re showcasing three brand new bosses: Muskan, Walter Lanford, and Kearush the Slayer. You can see protagonist Kliff duke it out with all three in the video above. The trio demonstrates a chunk of Crimson Desert’s enemy scale – Walter Lanford and Muskan are both human, but the former is pretty regular...
If there’s one thing I’ve learned from the Jurassic Park movies, it’s that running a dinosaur theme park isn’t easy. It’s a constant balancing act of keeping your employees satisfied, making your park profitable, and meeting your guests’ needs, whether that means having enough bathrooms or just not getting eaten by a velociraptor. Jurassic World Evolution 3 once again puts you in the role of park manager, giving you a chance to do what the John Hammonds and Simon Masranis of the world could not: run a thriving, lucrative theme park with attention-grabbing dinosaur attractions and minimal violent deaths. With a complex set of management and customization tools, Evolution 3 gives you more control over your park than ever before. The...
Nier series director Yoko Taro has warned fans to be wary that "nearly half" of the items purporting to be autographed by him include fake signatures. Responding to a fan on Twitter / X who shared a snap of a signed soundtrack from Nier: Automata on sale for €200 (around $232), Taro revealed that he includes "small, unknown features" in real autographs to prevent precisely this kind of reselling. "This autograph is a fake. I include small, unknown features in my real autographs to prevent reselling, so I can tell when one isn’t genuine," he explained. "I've confirmed that nearly half of the autographs being resold are actually fake, so please don't buy them." What, exactly, those "features" are will likely not be known — at least...
PlayStation Plus Extra will lose seven games in November 2025, Sony has confirmed. As reported by Push Square, the seven games set to exit the subscription tier include 2018's Battlefield 5, Digimon Survive, and Like a Dragon Ishin. Battlefield 5 leaves PS Plus Extra hot on the heels of Battlefield 6’s record-breaking launch. The list of titles is expected to make way on November 18, when Sony will release the next PS Plus Extra update. As Push Square points out, it's worth noting that games in PS Plus Extra can no longer be played once they’re rotated out of the catalog, even if you continue to subscribe. So make the most of these games while you still can. The games set to leave PlayStation Plus Extra in November 2025: Alternate...
The Arc Raiders design director has said it's been fortuitous timing to have its extraction shooter launch a playtest around the same time as Bungie's Marathon, calling it "a great A/B test for us." With Marathon offering some features that Arc Raiders does not — and vice-versa — Embark Studios' Virgil Watkins said it's been useful to compare the feedback from not just Arc Raiders' community but also Marathon's to "compare and contrast how some of those things shook out." Talking to PC Gamer, Watkins said: "It was very coincidental that they had their test around the time we did. To my knowledge, I don't think any of us knew that was going to happen. It was a very great A/B test for us, because obviously, they made decisions that we...
Halo co-creator Marcus Lehto has expressed his disappointment that former staff of the now shuttered Ridgeline Games were not "properly" credited in Battlefield 6, despite building the "foundation" of the game. Ridgeline Games, the studio co-founded by Lehto, was tasked with developing the narrative campaign in Battlefield 6. The studio was closed in February 2024 following Lehto’s departure — less than two years after it was set up — as part of a broader restructuring that saw EA lay off some 670 employees and shift away from future licensed IPs. At the time, EA said the work that was begun on the Battlefield single-player campaign would continue. Fast forward to Battlefield 6’s record-breaking release, and Lehto has taken to...
There's no shortage of two-player board games – you can even find plenty of solo board games. And while you might think a group of three players would pose a challenge for board game night, you'd be wrong. Three is actually the perfect number for many games. It allows for more interesting dynamics than strictly two-player, and it affords a quick tempo with little downtime between turns. In many ways, it’s the best qualities of the two player and four player format merged together. TL;DR: The Best 3-Player Board Games The challenge is in finding the right games. That’s why we’re here with this list offering a series of titles that provide an exceptional experience at the three-player count. No need to fret when your fourth cancels as...
Silent Hill series producer Motoi Okamoto has opened up on why Konami revealed three new Silent Hill games after a full decade of silence, saying the publisher was keen to stress to old fans and new that it was "serious" about resurrecting the flailing horror series. Reflecting on how the series has performed since Konami's inaugural Silent Hill Transmission back in October 2022, Okamoto explained how the impressive Silent Hill 2 Remake was designed with "half new, half old customers in mind" to ensure it could attract new fans to the franchise. "Three years ago, in 2022, we announced three titles: Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill f, and Silent Hill: Townfall," Okamoto explained on Twitter / X, as transcribed by Automaton. "We didn’t want...
In so many ways, Ninja Gaiden 4 is exactly what I wanted it to be. It’s a collaborative effort between Team Ninja and Platinum Games, two of my all time favorite developers; it builds off the combat from Ninja Gaiden 2, which has the best action of the series in my eyes; and it comes packed with small touches that make it a bit more approachable without sacrificing the tough-as-nails difficulty that longtime fans like me expect. But while I’d even go so far as to say this combat system is among the very best I’ve ever seen, Ninja Gaiden 4 stumbles in many other areas – from its bland new lead character, to its uninspired level design, to its predictable story that falls completely flat. The action is still so good that a lot of those...
Battlefield 6 is giving fans some of the most cinematic FPS action they’ve seen in years, but one of its hard-to-reach Recon skins has the community in stitches. Die-hard fans of military shooters like Call of Duty and Battlefield have spent the last few years arguing about what place — if any — goofy skins have in their favorite video games. Although EA and Battlefield Studios’ latest has largely dodged the conflict with its commitment to a more grounded approach to cosmetics, it’s not managed to emerge from the wreckage completely unscathed. Discussion about one questionable launch skin kicked off when Reddit user BOSS_Clan_Intl shared an image of what appears to be the Recon class’ Dead Sight skin. It’s one outfit for the...
An impressive new mod for The Simpsons Hit & Run has rebuilt the game to instead feature Futurama, catching the attention of the cult classic's original lead designer. Futurama Hit & Run, as the mod is called, is available now in demo form as a free download — you'll just need a copy of the original Simpsons game on PC in order to play. The Simpsons Hit & Run originally launched for PC, PlayStation 2, GameCube and Xbox back in 2003, and was heavily inspired by the Grand Theft Auto games of the era. Gameplay for this Futurama mod also feels familiar, as you run around as Fry and complete missions for characters such as Bender, Professor Farnsworth and Dr. Zoidberg. There's driving too, of course — with Fry able to zoom around a...
This article contains spoilers for 2019's The Outer Worlds. With The Outer Worlds 2 imminently about to drop, we think it's a good time to brush up on the fundamentals of Obsidian's high-concept sci-ifi universe and recount the events of the first game. The next 2,000 words or so will work nicely as a refresher for people who finished The Outer Worlds ages ago, and also as a primer for those of you diving into the sequel without any prior knowledge. It goes without saying, then, that what follows contains spoilers for The Outer Worlds 1. If you don't want anything spoiled... well, the long and short of it is that unregulated capitalism is bad. That's enough to get you going with The Outer Worlds 2. But you didn't come here for tl;dr...
The third instalment of Frontier Developments' moreish dinosaur park sim, Jurassic World Evolution 3, is almost here. You'll get to manage your very own park full of dinosaurs in this much-anticipated park management simulator sequel that yes, really does feature the Megalodon this time. Gulp. Jurassic World Evolution 3 will be open its doors again for players on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X and S on October 21. As a global release, it'll unlock simultaneously for all players regardless of where they are in the world — here's when that will be in your timezone (and unfortunately, no, there's no way to unlock the game in early access ahead of its street date). "Just about everything I've seen so far of Jurassic World Evolution 3 has me...
Escape from Duckov is an unlikely hit on Steam after half a million sales and big concurrents over the weekend. The parody of extraction shooter Escape from Tarkov is riding high with 173,394 peak concurrent players on Valve’s platform. That’s enough to make it the sixth most-played game on Steam right now. Only Delta force, Battlefield 6, PUBG, Dota 2, and Counter-Strike 2 are more popular right now. Escape from Duckov is a PVE top-down looter-shooter game in which you scavenge for resources, build your hideout, and upgrade your gear. “Start from nothing and rise to the top,” reads the official blurb. “Outwit hostile ducks, survive, or make it out alive.” Following its launch on October 16, Team Soda’s game sold an additional...
Despite the blockbuster reception to Sandfall's RPG, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 co-director Naoki Hamaguchi says that decisions about Part 3's gameplay will be "based on the director's decision himself," and it had not been "pre-determined yet." Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which boasts traditional JRPG-inspired turn-based combat, recently confirmed sales of 5 million copies in five months, making it one of the biggest hits of the year. But Hamaguchi isn't letting his head be turned by current trends, it seems, and is focused instead on "what game experience fans will enjoy." "Essentially for the Final Fantasy numbered series, the game design is based on the director's decision himself," Hamaguchi told...
The first draft of the script for the movie adaptation of Sleeping Dogs is "done." That's according to Marvel star Simu Liu, who revealed over the weekend that the script for the film was complete, albeit carefully redacting some details from the screenshot. He marked the news by sharing a photo of his own sleeping dog. When a commenter responded to the good news and asked if the actor and producer had "worked things out" with the game's publisher and IP-holder Square Enix, Liu said: "They’re absolutely great, it’s the studios that don’t seem to understand how important this IP is BUT we will get them there." If you were hoping for more, I'm afraid Liu shared little else, but it should be good news nonetheless given the adaptation...
Capcom's upcoming, unannounced Resident Evil Zero remake will reportedly launch in 2028 and feature the lead actor from Square Enix's Guardians of the Galaxy video game. Last year, IGN verified a report by noted Resident Evil leaker Dusk Golem that claimed Capcom would continue remaking its classic Resident Evil back catalog with new versions of both Resident Evil Code Veronica and Resident Evil Zero in development. Now, MP1st has suggested that the Code Veronica remake is targeting a Q1 2027 release window, while Resident Evil Zero will follow a year after. And there's word, too, of Zero remake's codename — "Project Chamber" — which is also listed on the resume of Far Cry 5 and Guardians of the Galaxy (video game) actor Jon McLaren...
Lana Del Rey looks to have gotten a second chance at recording a James Bond theme, this time for the upcoming video game 007 First Light. Eagle-eyed fans on reddit have spotted a fresh song titled "First Light" that has been registered by Del Rey, real name Elizabeth Grant, to the ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers). While not a full confirmation, Del Rey performing the game's theme would be a neat fit, after the singer's 2005 track "24" was snubbed for Daniel Craig outing Spectre, the franchise's 24th movie. IGN has contacted IO Interactive for more. Last year, Del Rey revealed she had written that track as a Bond theme, only for Sam Smith's "Writing's On the Wall" to ultimately get picked instead. "I...
UPDATE: Amazon Web Services said it is seeing "significant signs of recovery" following various fixes deployed this morning. "Most requests should now be succeeding," it continued. "We continue to work through a backlog of queued requests. We will continue to provide additional information." ORIGINAL STORY: An Amazon Web Services outage appears to have knocked out a number of key websites, social media networks, work platforms, and video games. Amazon told users there are “significant error rates” for requests made to its data storage service DynamoDB in the "US-EAST-1 Region.” This region relates to services hosted in northern Virginia. But the problem is also affecting its other services in that region as well. According to...
Arc Raiders has ended its 'Server Slam' playtest with a big peak concurrent player number on Steam, suggesting a strong launch is ahead. The open Server Slam ran over the weekend on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. It offered the final chance to play Embark Studios' extraction shooter ahead of its October 30 release date. On Steam, Arc Raiders hit a peak concurrent player count of 189,668, making it one of the most-played games on Valve’s platform over the weekend. That's enough to make Arc Raiders the biggest extraction shooter ever on Steam. Escape from Tarkov might have something to say about that when it finally launches on Steam in November, however. Arc Raiders' true peak concurrent...
Ever since Resident Evil exploded onto the scene in 1996 and made inventory reshuffling in the face of a zombie outbreak popular, players have been regularly fighting down to their very last bullet. 30 years later, survival horror is the dominant format for those seeking video game scares, as popular now as it’s ever been. And with a fresh batch of nightmares to consider, there’s never been a better time to rank the best games of the genre. But what qualifies a game to be considered as "survival horror"? Many games are often labelled survival horror, but lean much too heavily into action to be truly considered a genuine example of the genre. For our money, survival horror can be boiled down to four key factors, all of which are vital...
While attending Gamescom Asia x Thailand Game Show in Bangkok this week, IGN was given the opportunity to sit down with Rainbow Six Siege X’s creative director Alexander Karpazis to talk about how much the tactical live-service shooter has evolved in the ten years since its launch in 2015, where it might go next, the possibility of a campaign mode and Switch 2 port, the use of generative AI in development, and more. Read on for our full chat below! IGN: 10 years is a great achievement for a live service game, particularly since we’ve seen so many others come and go in that time. What do you put the longevity of Siege down to? Alexander Karpazis [AK]: I think one of the big points is just the sheer depth of the game. Like even within...
Borderlands 4 is a looter shooter that revolves around… loot. But what happens when you can’t get your hard-earned Legendary drop because it got trapped out of bounds or behind an invisible wall? Desperate Borderlands 4 players are running into that exact problem and are now pleading with developer Gearbox for a fix. If you’ve played Borderlands 4 you’ll probably know the feeling. It’s the europhoria that comes from a Legendary drop among the confetti-like explosion of loot that erupts from a downed boss. This is something the Borderlands series has always done well, perhaps better, even, than any other looter shooter. When Gearbox chief Randy Pitchford recently said if more developers better understood why gamers love loot, then...
Battlefield 6 movement is top of mind for EA, Battlefield Studios, and players, as the community’s latest debate has formed around the topic of “zoomers” vs. “battledads.” Few gaming communities take movement mechanics as seriously as first-person shooter fans. As gamers new and old now drop into what has become one of the most popular Battlefield games ever, everyone's talking about what kind of player Battlefield 6 should cater to. While FPS games like Call of Duty have ramped up movement shooter mechanics with things like jet packs, wall-running, and, more recently, Omnimovement, players have long seen Battlefield as the yin to that yang, offering a more methodical approach to the tactical military shooter sub-genre. So, when the...
The world of Fallout is a fictional one, but it deals with some very real and very serious issues, chief among them the threat of nuclear war. Now, the video game series is set for an official exhibition at pretty much the most appropriate place for it on earth: the National Atomic Testing Museum in Las Vegas. ‘Civilization, I'll stay right here!’ goes the song by Danny Kaye and The Andrews Sisters, which Fallout fans will be familiar with if they ever turned the radio on while out and about in the wasteland. But a trip to the museum might now be in order, with the limited-time exhibition dubbed “World of Fallout” opening November 14, 2025. The National Atomic Testing Museum said the Bethesda-backed exhibition will explore the...

The age of video game rivalries is coming to an end. As markets shift, corporations merge, and fortunes change, the hostilities that once defined the industry have become legends of the past. Sonic the Hedgehog is welcome in the Mushroom Kingdom any time. Madden buried NFL 2K more than 20 years ago. Forza and Marcus Fenix have shed the bonds of exclusivity, and it seems like any day now we’ll be pressing square to reload a Needler. The inconceivable has become reality as gaming grows ever flatter and consolidated, but there’s at least one front where the fight is still on. Call of Duty vs. Battlefield. The two global superpowers of first-person shooters have been locked in conflict for decades, and their simmering cold war is about...
