The King of Fighters series has built up a lot of momentum since 1994, and King of Fighters XV certainly keeps that going, if nothing else. The latest in SNK’s premiere fighting games plays it safe by focusing on subtly refining the already solid mechanics of 2016’s King of Fighters XIV and bringing the graphics up to a more modern standard, but never really reaches beyond that in an attempt to take the series to the next level. Because of that lack of ambition it won’t do much to grab the attention of those who don’t already have eyes on the series, but for longtime fans this is a reliable return for the king. As is tradition, KOF XV is primarily a 3v3 fighter (though it can be played 1v1 in casual modes), with the twist of there...
Lost Ark is offering players who paid to play the free-to-play MMO early additional items if they switch to quieter servers. The move comes as Lost Ark is struggling with long server queues during its early access period ahead of the official free-to-play release later today. Some players are having "a less than ideal experience" said developer Smilegate in a blog post, and several measures to reduce queue times are being introduced. Players who bought Founder's Packs to gain early access to Lost Ark will be offered the same items again if they switch to quieter servers as Smilegate attempts to spread out the huge number of players already online. The offer comes due to the fact that existing characters cannot be transferred to new...
Microsoft has committed to putting "the right people in the right position" at the helm of Activision Blizzard amid the ongoing serious allegations around the company's toxic workplace culture. As reported by VGC, Microsoft president Brad Smith told CNBC that his company is looking at the current leadership team at Activision Blizzard, and that there will be "change" to some aspects should the acquisition deal proceed. He said: "We're looking to the leadership team at Activision Blizzard today to make culture and workplace safety a top priority every single day, until the day when this deal hopefully closes. And then we'll take over and we need to make that same commitment. "There will be some aspects that will change but it will...

343 Industries has finally released an update to help fix Halo Infinite's long-term lag problems, and confirmed it is working on long term solutions too. For the first time since Halo Infinite released on December 8, 343 Industries has addressed the problems by offering an explanation and partial solution in a blog post on its website. Since launch, players have encountered various syncing issues in the game such as accurate shots that don't connect, melee attacks going through enemies, and bullets twisting around corners. Lead Engineer of the Sandbox team, Richard Watson, said in the post: "In Halo, we choose to favour the shooter. Practically, this means that whatever happened on the shooter’s screen the server endeavours to...

Thank your own personal God—or just a waffle that's been thrown up on your ceiling—it's Friday. Some personal picks that I'd make a beeline to would include the triple-digit-hour threat that is XCOM 2 and Windbound seems priced right, too. Also, I've featured it before but I'm happy to say it again: Watch Dogs Legion for $15 is crazy good value. Get on it, guv'ner. FromSoftware says that it's seeking to balance Elden Ring's difficulty, with one particularly frustrating Network Test among the elements being tuned for the final version. But there will still be some difficult bosses, some of which will reportedly rank among the most difficult the series has ever seen. Speaking with Gamer Braves, Elden Ring producer Yasuhiro Kitao covered a variety of topics pertaining the final release, which is due later this month. Among them, he discussed the difficult balance, saying that the Network Test's showcase boss, Margit the Fell Omen, was "just too hard." Nevertheless, Elden Ring will have a myriad of optional bosses to test the skills of top players, some of which will be very difficult. "In terms...
While Marvel and Star Wars will still assuredly keep us on our toes in 2022 -- with Moon Knight, She-Hulk, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, and more -- there's a universe of TV out there that has nothing to do with major Disney-owned IPs. Okay, it might not seem like that some of the time but we still live in the era of "too much content" so to help you navigate through this next televisual year we've come up with a quick and easy rundown of the biggest new and returning shows headed your way. Westworld, The Umbrella Academy, Barry, The Orville, Bridgerton, The Boys, and Only Murders in the Building are all back in big ways in 2022, along with new seasons of Atlanta, Stranger Things, and Evil. And if you're looking for spinoffs there's the Game...
Both the first Portal and its sequel, Portal 2, will be headed to the Nintendo Switch later this year as part of Portal: Companion Collection, announced during today's Nintendo Direct presentation. Portal was first released by Valve in 2007 for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 in 2007, with Portal 2 coming in 2011. Valve noted in a tweet during the presentation that the Companion Collection was developed in collaboration with NVIDIA Lightspeed Studios, and will include both games' full single-player campaigns as well as Portal 2's co-op game mode, which is available via spilt-screen, local, and online multiplayer. Both Portal games have received critical acclaim, with IGN giving the first an 8.2 and giving it awards for best puzzle...
New details have emerged from the long-rumored Resident Evil 4 Remake, including the potential direction the yet-to-be-announced game may take. In a new report by Fanbyte, sources claim that Capcom is not looking to make a "strict scene-by-scene remake" of one of the most popular installments in the Resident Evil series. The outlet reports that several scenes in the game will change dramatically from the original, with a "decent portion of the game" reportedly taking place at night, which may include the early scene where Leon fights off hordes of infected in a village. While Resident Evil 4 is known for taking a more action-focused approach with less emphasis on horror, Fanbyte's sources claim that the project will take a scarier...
Staff at Worms developer Team17 have spoken out on issues of sexual harassment, low pay, and poor treatment within the studio in the wake of public backlash following its NFT U-turn. Increasing numbers of staff have allegedly left Team17 in recent years due to the issues that allegedly include a dismissive HR team, demeaning boss, and a culture of being overworked, more than a dozen team members told Eurogamer. Staff said the company's HR team failed to act appropriately when women reported sexual harassment such as being sent degrading messages and suggestive photos by male colleagues. HR "minimized" the incidents, gave the accused "a slap on the wrist" and told victims to sort it themselves. Team17's group CEO Debbie Bestwick was...
2D puzzle platformers often have some fairly recognizable similarities. I’ve played enough to know that I’ll probably unlock a double jump at some point, eventually find a new item to beat enemies I can’t harm yet, or likely find some sort of lantern if there are areas obscured by darkness. Animal Well has all of those things, but never quite in the way I was used to. Instead of a double jump, you’ll be blowing bubbles to hop on top of, and instead of a lantern you’ll get a glowy yo-yo. It twisted my expectations of the genre at every turn, and consistently delighted me as I discovered more of its quiet, pixelated world. Animal Well has you hopping around as a little blob, exploring the branching paths of its map to do… something...
Ubisoft has never been one to shy away from reinventing the Assassin’s Creed series, whether they’re killing off their protagonist , taking a brief detour into competitive multiplayer, or transforming their most recent games into stat-driven RPGs. And the upcoming expansion for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Dawn of Ragnarök, looks to be no exception. Taking on the role of the iconic Norse God Odin on a quest to rescue his son, you’ll find yourself with a plethora of over-the-top, game-changing supernatural powers that are unlike anything we’ve seen in the beloved saga of cloaks and daggers. Among the abilities available to Odin are the Power of Jotunheim, which turns you into a frost giant and lets you teleport while dodging, rolling, or...
Perhaps more than anything else, the Borderlands series has been defined by its distinct, cell-shaded look. That's definitely the defining feature of the series. Also, the guns of course. And the loot. And the humor. But the look is undeniable in its uniqueness, and the art style of the mainline series carries over into Tiny Tina's Wonderlands. While Borderlands' overall style is best described as "cartoonish sci-fi outer space western," Wonderlands is closer to "cartoonish sci-fi outer space western with fantasy elements." Take a look at the slideshow below to see some of the concept art that helped form the distinct look of Wonderlands. We're showing off Wonderlands all month long as part of IGN First for February. You can follow...
Never Alone 2 is officially on its way, with a sequel to the 2015 BAFTA winning platformer in pre-production. The news came in a trailer (below) that also showed off the original Never Alone on Nintendo Switch, which arrives on February 24 in the form of the Arctic Collection that includes the base-game and Foxtales DLC. The trailer ends with a short teaser that shows a number 2 appearing above a snowy landscape as we hear a giggle and a fox bark. As well as being an accomplished platformer, Never Alone is also a collaboration with Alaska Natives, aiming to spread knowledge of indiginous culture. IGN said Never Alone is "a charming puzzle platformer" and "an indie not to be missed", and it went onto win the 2015 Gaming BAFTA for...
It’s been a few months since a chosen few were able to take their first steps into Elden Ring - thanks to From Software’s Closed Network Test - and explore just a small fragment of the open world that was teeming with mini dungeons, roaming field bosses, and plenty of secrets. With the release date looming large just a few short weeks away, I was given one last chance to explore as far as I could in the Lands Between. This time there were no barriers to stop me — just a lot of incredibly tough adversaries waiting to kick my ass. Rather than trying to solely progress through Elden Ring’s “main path” that led through incredibly grueling “Legacy Dungeons”, I decided to spend my precious six hours finding out exactly how the open world...
EA and Sims developer Maxis have announced that they will not be releasing the upcoming The Sims 4 expansion pack, My Wedding Stories, in Russia. In a blog post today from The Sims Team, Maxis said that releasing the pack in Russia would have meant "compromising the values we live by," saying that federal laws would have forced them to make changes to the pack's development and marketing. My Wedding Stories is a wedding-focused pack that allows players to plan and hold elaborate weddings in a new location, Tartosa. It expands on existing wedding features including proposals and the ceremony itself, adding detailed planning, decor, outfits, cakes, events, and much more. Though any adult Sims can marry one another currently in The...

The Chrono Cross remaster is actually, really real, and Nintendo showed off the first look of it at today's Nintendo Direct. Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition, is out on Nintendo Switch on April 7, 2022. The Radical Dreamers Edition includes updates like the ability to turn off encounters and an enhanced soundtrack. As noted in the game's title, this edition also includes the Radical Dreamers text adventure that was previously exclusive to the Satellaview. Chrono Cross remaster rumors have been swirling for some time now, beginning with reports of a "big remake" announcement for around Christmas time this year, and then further reports that this was actually a Chrono Cross remaster. We were all further riled up when mobile...
There’s never been an isometric action RPG quite so expansive or adventurous as Lost Ark. This stylistic, free-to-play MMO is finally about to launch for western audiences after taking South Korea by storm in 2019, and having played a few dozen hours in the test server, it’s not hard to see why it’s been so popular overseas. Its story may be generic fantasy, but there’s a surprising degree of depth to Lost Ark and each of its sprawling systems, and most of its content is accessible to play through by yourself or with friends. It’s the kind of game that’s easy to lose hours in even without spending any money, especially once you get your very own ship and set sail to pave your own path through its mysterious world. The story of Lost...

Editor's Note: The subject of NFTs is currently a very controversial topic in the gaming community. IGN urges community members to be respectful when engaging in conversation around this subject and does not endorse harassment of any kind. PUBG: Battlegrounds' creator Krafton is developing an NFT metaverse in Unreal Engine in collaboration with NAVER, the company behind Asia's largest metaverse platform, ZEPETO, which has more than 290 million users. Krafton will use its experience creating online games like PUBG to build the virtual world alongside a user-generated content creation tool in the Web 3.0 and NFT-based project. NAVER Z, the subsidiary of NAVER that Krafton has entered a memorandum of understanding with, meaning a...
Beyond Good & Evil 2 has seemingly been in development hell for years, and there doesn't appear to be a finish line anywhere in sight. Bloomberg reports that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still in pre-production after over five years of development. Rumblings of a Beyond Good & Evil sequel date all the way back to 2008, when Ubisoft showed off what seemed to be a teaser trailer for the game. Nearly a decade later at E3 2017, the game was finally revealed. It looked like an incredibly ambitious project, promising a multi-planet world populated by dynamically-generated characters. The long-awaited sequel returned at E3 2018, revealing a partnership with Joseph Gordon-Levitt's HitRecord, a production company that allows fans and community...
The Wolf Among Us 2 will be released episodically in 2023, but Telltale will complete development on every chapter before the first part is released. Announced during today's Wolf Among Us 2 news stream, Telltale is developing the entire five-episode season simultaneously, and will release it with a 'tighter cadence' than the original game. Exact timings weren't given, but we now know it will be released for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and Xbox One in 2023. The original incarnation of Telltale developed many of its episodic games chapter-by-chapter, occasionally leading to long delays when development problems arose. The Wolf Among Us 2 , developed by a fresh team under the Telltale banner, won't be following suit. The stream...
Atomic Heart, the mysterious first-person shooter from developer Mundfish that's vaguely reminiscent of BioShock (in a good way), has cheekily revealed its release window. At the end of the new trailer (watch it above), the release window is revealed to be sometime in the final four months of 2022, as the trailer reveals "#######ber 2022," thus narrowing it to September, October, November, or December (and perhaps giving the Mundfish team some wiggle room if they're aiming for one of those earlier "-mber" months and end up needing to polish the game a bit longer). Whenever it drops, Atomic Heart will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. We also asked a few questions of the Russia-based...
Ubisoft has reportedly turned an Assassin's Creed Valhalla expansion featuring Basim into its own standalone game that is expected to release either this year or in 2023. Bloomberg reports that people familiar with the project, codenamed Rift, said it won't have a massive open-world but will instead focus on stealth gameplay and is overall "smaller in scope" than previous Assassin's Creed games. Rift was allegedly turned into its own game in late 2021 to flesh out Ubisoft's thin release schedule and is expected to release before Assassin's Creed Infinity, the upcoming evolution of the franchise that's rumored to be a Fortnite-style evolving platform game. Eurogamer said it's also familiar with Rift and heard from sources that it...
Microsoft has confirmed that "Call of Duty and other popular Activision Blizzard titles" will not just be released on PlayStation to honor existing contracts, but "beyond the existing agreement and into the future." In a piece published to explain how the company will adapt to gain regulatory approval for its Activision Blizzard takeover, president Brad Smith addressed concerns that popular games would no longer be available on competing consoles: "To be clear, Microsoft will continue to make Call of Duty and other popular Activision Blizzard titles available on PlayStation through the term of any existing agreement with Activision. And we have committed to Sony that we will also make them available on PlayStation beyond the existing...
