Following a racist joke that linked Hideo Kojima to the assassination of Japan's longest-serving Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Kojima Productions has threatened legal action against those who contribute to the "spread of fake news and rumors that convey false information."
Kojima Productions tweeted out its statement earlier today, July 9, saying that it "strongly condemns the spread of fake news and rumors that convey false information. We do not tolerate such libel and will consider taking legal action in some cases."
As reported by PC Gamer, the reason for this statement stemmed from a racist joke that seemingly began on 4Chan (shocking, I know) that said Kojima was the assassin behind the death of Abe, the former Prime Minister of...

Arkane’s games offer a special kind of tactical agency, and with Redfall, Arkane Austin’s Studio Director and Redfall Co-Creative Director Harvey Smith says that'll remain true. "Solo is very much a classic Arkane experience," he promised – but so is its four-player co-op multiplayer mode, which is faster paced and offers a different kind of challenge as the dangers escalate.
Redfall follows four characters as they fight for their lives after an experiment gone wrong results in a swarm of vampires in the eponymous Massachusetts town. The sun is blocked out and a water wall surrounds the island, seemingly preventing anyone from leaving. Of course, knowing the story is just the beginning. From confirming Redfall will only have one...
If any It Takes Two fans didn’t watch the recent Nintendo Direct Mini late last month, then they may have slept on the wrong presentation. Tucked cozily into the show was Blanc, a visually striking story about a lost fawn and wolf cub that is, gloriously, a rare cooperative adventure.
Games that focus on couch or online co-op (Blanc has both) as a key gameplay element rather than just an optional addendum to an otherwise single-player experience are scarce despite the popularity of It Takes Two and its Hazelight predecessors, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons and A Way Out.
So it’s perhaps understandable that Blanc didn’t originate from a known games studio or even from a studio committed explicitly to making games at all. Instead, it’s...
In recent years, players have been asking for the next generation upgrades from the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of NBA 2K to be added to PC as well.
Despite these requests, however, it looks like NBA 2K23's PC version will still be based on the previous-gen console version.
According to an answer in the FAQs section of the 2K Games website, the PC and Nintendo Switch versions of the next NBA 2K game won't receive the graphical and technical upgrades that the game's next-gen console versions will have.
"This is something the team is passionate about and will continue to investigate what is possible for the franchise in the future," the answer reads. "For now, the focus was on assuring NBA 2K23 was optimized for the...

The Leviathan summon in Final Fantasy 7 Remake was included specifically as a reference to the original game's demo.
In a Square Enix blog post, Remake's co-director Naoki Hamaguchi explained the logic behind why each specific summon made an appearance in the game.
"At an early stage of development we looked over the line-up of summons in the original FFVII and decided to go with Ifrit, Chocobo and Moogle, Shiva, Fat Chocobo, Leviathan and Bahamut, for a roster of six," Hamaguchi said. "The reason Leviathan was included is because he was featured in the original FFVII demo, so I personally wanted him in the first Remake too."
Hamaguchi went on to explain that the developers had to be pretty certain before development began which...
Some Hearthstone players have been offered 150 free booster packs - with a value of $180 - to return to Blizzard's Warcraft-themed card game.
As reported by PC Gamer, various lapsed Hearthstone players have shared that they had been offered huge bundles of cards if they started playing again. The biggest offer was for 75 Standard Packs and 75 Voyage to the Sunken City Packs, which would otherwise cost players at least $179.96.
The offer is "common industry practice," according to Blizzard. "We run many different limited and targeted tests such as this to better determine what drives former, new or current players' interest, which is a common industry practice," a spokesperson told PC Gamer.
"This was a region-specific test for...
Black Mesa, the Half-Life 1 remake that brought the game to the updated Source engine and added new content, is now being remade again... in the original Half-Life 1 engine.
As reported by PC Gamer, a group of modders are currently working on a demake of the remake called Black Mesa Classic, which will include Half-Life 1, in the original GoldSrc engine, but with the extra content and improved features added in Black Mesa.
The mod has actually been in development since 2019 but a playable demo was released earlier this week on the game's ModDB page. It was quickly removed due to "a last minute issue" but the team has promised it will be back up soon.
"This is a GoldSrc project aimed to remake Black Mesa: Source with Half-Life...

Thank your own personal God—possibly Atreus—it's Friday! Even better, it's the Friday before Prime Day (12-13 July). That means a few of the forthcoming deals have, well, actually started oozing out early. Case in point: now's a great time to secure a replacement XSX or PS5 controller. There's always a chance that stocks might not last. I'd make a play on a peripheral today.

The next Hearthstone set is hitting the game on August 2nd (August 3 in ANZ), and will add 135 new cards, not to mention an air of mystery. With a central whodunnit, complete with a character called Murloc Holmes on the case, Murder at Castle Nathria is shaping up to be a lot of fun. In addition to ten legendary “suspects” (one for each class), it introduces a new card type: locations. Location cards are played to the board and can then be activated a set number of times, with a turn off between each activation. It’s all very Cluedo-esque. Alongside this is a new keyword: infuse. Cards with infuse are powered up when a certain number of friendly minions die while they’re in hand. You can see examples of all these new additions in the...
He's battled Batman, trained Jedi, led revolutions, and chased down kidnappers using a "particular set of skills." The Oscar-nominated Liam Neeson's been fighting the good fight for decades, bouncing from drama to action to rom-coms to...well, action again.
But which are Liam Neeson's best films? We've whittled the actor's catalogue down to his 10 best flicks, featuring scarred superheroes, caring fathers, master of the Force, and the one person you want tracking you down if you get "Taken."
10. Love Actually
Where to Watch: Netflix, Tubi (w/ ads), or rentable on most platforms.
Liam Neeson was part of a larger ensemble for Richard Curtis' Christmas-themed rom-com but his role as a grieving widow who makes it his mission to help...
I never took much time out of my Witchering career to play the head-to-head card game Gwent in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but the Gwent-based single-player RPG Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales was one of my favorite games in the entire Witcher franchise. And likewise, the new standalone spin-off Gwent: Rogue Mage has gotten its hooks into me with its roguelike elements, tricky boss battles, and lightweight but intriguing story. I haven’t quite reached the end of that story just yet, but I have completed plenty of runs and am excited to see how it’s truly meant to end even after around 25 hours.
If you never played Thonebreaker, both it and Rogue Mage basically use Gwent as an RPG battle system, fighting against AI enemies and giving...
After much anticipation, Ubisoft announced that Skull and Bones will be released on November 8 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Google Stadia, and PC via the Epic Games Store and Ubisoft Store.
Skull and Bones was officially announced in 2017, though began development years before that. Based on the naval combat in Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, Skull and Bones faced numerous delays, missing its initial 2018 release window and every subsequent year after that until now.
In Skull and Bones players will captain their own pirate ships. Accept contracts, gather resources, and sail the high seas while attacking merchant ships for loot. Different choices will influence a players’ journey while going up in the pirate ranks will open up...
Skull and Bones is back. Ubisoft Singapore’s pirate game that we last saw at E3 2018 has finally sailed back into view and it’s out this November. But what exactly is it? Despite how it looks, Skull and Bones is a very different game to Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag. In fact, it’s much more like Sea of Thieves than any of Ubisoft’s traditional open world games.
To make sure you’re all set and ready to sail, we spoke to game director Ryan Barnard to find out the seven things you need to know about Skull and Bones.
There’s No Campaign
Unlike most of Ubisoft’s open-world games, Skull and Bones does not have a campaign. “It is definitely not a storyline-driven game,” says Barnard. “You don't finish Skull & Bones and have credits and a...
Upcoming FPS RoboCop: Rogue City has shown off its first gameplay and revealed lead character Alex Murphy, with the full likeness of original actor Peter Weller. The game is now scheduled to arrive in June 2023.
Shown off at today's Nacon Connect showcase, we got a look at the game's dystopian Detroit from the first-person perspective of RoboCop himself, amid what seems to be gang violence across the city. Combat appears to be a mix of gunplay and melee, with Murphy's targeting systems used to take out hard-to-hit enemies. We even see an ED-209 robot join the fray.
Aiming for release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, RoboCop: Rogue City will "combine first-person shooter gameplay with exploration of Detroit and multiple-choice...
Nacon has announced that Session: Skate Sim will release in full on September 22, three years after it launched in early access.
Announced by developer Crea-ture Studios at Nacon Connect 2022, the full 1.0 version of Session will be available on Xbox and PlayStation consoles, as well as PC. The reveal came accompanied by a short new trailer, which showed off some of Session's authentic moves, locations, and how it's captured the skateboarding culture of the 1990s.
Session currently has a 'very positive' player review score on Steam, with users complimenting its authentic sense of control and calling it somewhat of a spiritual successor to EA's beloved Skate series.
Talking of Skate, EA is asking for playtesters for Skate 4, which...
Red Dead Redemption 2 developer Rockstar won't bring any more major themed updates to Red Dead Online as it's instead using resources on the development of Grand Theft Auto 6.
That's not to say Red Dead Online will have its support cut completely though as Rockstar said it still plans to update the game with seasonal special events, build upon existing modes, and add new Telegram missions to maintain a healthy online environment.
"Over the past few years, we have been steadily moving more development resources towards the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series - understanding more than ever the need to exceed players’ expectations and for this next entry to be the best it can possibly be - and as a result, we are in the process of...

Daniel Mullins, creator of Inscryption, has announced that his creepy deckbuilding roguelite that featured on many game of the year lists last year is coming to PlayStation.
Announced on the PlaySation Blog as part of today’s PlayStation Indies reveals, Mullins explained that the PS version of the game will make use of the RGB lights and speaker on the controller. Stoat, the game’s talking card, will have its audio played out of the controller, and the atmospheric lighting of the cabin Inscryption is set in will be reflected by the light of the DualShock/DualSense.
“If you’re playing in the dark you’ll be one step closer to feeling like you’re inside Leshy’s cabin,” Mullins said of the lighting.
Otherwise, Inscryption on PlayStation...
Sony has held another PlayStation Indies day over on the PlayStation Blog, revealing seven new updates for a variety of indie games headed to PS4 and PS5 over the next few months. Curious as to what smaller games are ones to watch out for? Here’s all seven of today’s reveals, all in one place.
Sea of Stars Coming to PS4 and PS5
First up, retro-inspired RPG Sea of Stars has been confirmed for release on PS4 and PS5. Alongside that confirmation, developer Sabotage Studio also offered a closer look at Sea of Stars’ turn-based battle system. Despite its obvious JRPG inspirations, Sea of Stars does not have random encounter battles, and is a ‘pure’ turn-based system, with no time bars. MP regens though fights to allow for regular magic...
Grand Theft Auto 5, Red Dead Redemption 2, and the Mafia trilogy publisher Take-Two Interactive has ordered a popular virtual reality modder to take down his adaptations of the games.
As reported by PC Gamer, Luke Ross said on his Patreon that Take-Two is ordering that he removes "all their copyrighted works" from his Patreon page.
While his GTA 5 mod is available to download separately, the Red Dead Redemption 2 and Mafia ones are still works in progress and are therefore only available on his Patreon, where Ross reportedly earns more than $20,000 a month.
That being said, Ross noted that the takedown was "filed as a copyright issue and not a licensing issue, so the motivation for the request does not appear to be related to the...
Ever since Final Fantasy 7 Remake concluded with its shocking reveal, fans have been speculating on the possibility of a Crisis Core remaster. The moment was certainly ripe for an updated release of the prequel starring Zack Fair, the warrior with a suspicious resemblance to Cloud Strife. Aside from its connections to Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s story, Crisis Core has been difficult to find in recent years, forcing fans to resort to emulators and other measures.
That made Square Enix’s announcement of a Crisis Core remaster, which coincided with last month’s reveal of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, all the more welcome. It’s not any mere port, either. Square Enix is overhauling the graphics, the interface, and somewhat controversially, the...
Bandai Namco has officially commemorated the efforts of Elden Ring's most legendary player, Let Me Solo Her, by sending him an actual sword and other goodies from the game.
Shared on his Twitter (below), Let Me Solo Her shared pictures of a congratulations message and gift package he received from Bandai Namco.
Alongside a custom drawing of his character - who appears outside Malenia, Blade of Miquella and defeats her with ease by himself - he was also given a wooden lithograph, what appears to be a coat, and the full-length sword.
"Thank you Bandai Namco and Elden Ring for giving me this gift and congratulating me for being Let Me Solo Her," he said in the post. "I can still remember my first experience with the Soulsborne series...
Australia’s Nick Kyrgios is the top spun maverick of the tennis world, a controversy-courting Happy Gilmore-like figure who doesn’t so much as march to the beat of his own drum as strap on a pair of bright-red basketball sneakers and shamelessly stomp all over Wimbledon’s stuffy, all-white traditions. His prominent placement on the cover of Matchpoint: Tennis Championships sets the expectation that developer Torus Games’ debut tennis simulation is poised to finally shake things up for the stagnating tennis genre… but sadly, that hasn’t proven to be the case. A smooth yet imbalanced style of play, uninspiring career mode, and surprisingly limited multiplayer support means the only trait that Matchpoint shares with its provocative cover...
343 Industries is recreating the iconic E3 2003 Halo 2 demo in the Master Chief Collection as part of a larger modding project to revive cut content.
The Earthcity demo never made it to the final version of Halo 2 but was universally considered a spectacle at the time, with IGN saying "there's little in the eight-minute demo that isn't worthy of awe" in our original preview.
As outlined in a Halo blog post, it's being made playable for the first time as part of the Digsite project, which will also bring back pre-release content from the original Halo: Combat Evolved. This will include a ton of different assets including previously unseen models, vehicles, NPCs, weapons, and even levels.
Earthcity headlines the package though...

The PC gaming landscape has shifted in recent years, both in terms of technological advancements in graphics cards and gaming monitors and in the makeup of IGN's PC gaming staff and contributors. As a result, outside of some real stalwarts, our list of the best modern PC games is substantially different compared to years past.
To be clear, this list does not attempt to pick out the “best” or “most influential” PC games ever made. It’s also not a list of the most popular games out there, or a list that seeks to represent the top games of every genre. No, this is a list of 25 games that we, the IGN editors and contributors, collectively recommend the most, based on our tastes, and all from within the past 10 years.
