Developer Pixelated Millk has announced that its upcoming action JRPG, SacriFire, will release on PC in 2023. Console releases will follow later. Revealed as part of IGN Expo, the news of a 2023 release came accompanied by a brand new trailer that shows off three of the game's vibrant locations. First up is Ivanstone, one of SacriFire's hub locations, which is located in the underground city of Antioch. The trailer then showcases Erebus, a forest haunted by the spirits of both the living and dead. Finally, we're shown Bohemond's Office, a room where missions are assigned to protagonist Ezekiel. SacriFire is described as "Vagrant's Story meets Octopath Traveler", and will see Ezekiel explore the worlds of Antioch and Erebus, two very...
Buckshot Software and Retrovibe has announced that '90s-style FPS Project Warlock 2 is available now on PC in Early Access via Steam and GOG. Revealed at IGN Expo, a new trailer showed a rapid-pace glimpse of the content available during Project Warlock 2's Early Access version. This smaller slice of the full game contains six levels that Buckshot Software describes as being up to 10 times bigger than any level in the original Project Warlock. Each level is a multi-floor structure with platforms and buildings that add a new layer of verticality to the run-and-gun gameplay. Project Warlock 2 is inspired by the likes of Quake and Doom 64, and features an arsenal of upgradable weapons including swords, guns, magic staffs, cannons, and...

IGN Expo is pleased to announce that No Place for Bravery, a 2D pixel art game with Sekiro-inspired combat, will launch this September. A new trailer reveals that No Place for Bravery will be available on PC (via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG) and Nintendo Switch from September 22. The 2D soulslike features fast combat that places a strong emphasis on parries, much like FromSoftware's Sekiro. As Thorn, you'll explore a wretched, grim world where death lurks behind every corner. Your journey to investigate your daughter's disappearance will see you accompanied by your disabled foster son, Phid. The concept promises themes of compassion and parental responsibility amidst the encrounching darkness, so perhaps we'll see parallels to...
There Is No Light - a brutal, pixel art hack 'n' slash - will be released in September. The news was revealed in a brand new animated trailer shown during IGN Expo, showing the game's haunted hero dispatching enemies - and revealing a healthy slice of gameplay too. Set in a grimdark underworld, There Is No Light has you exploring a world left shattered after the Church of the Great Hand massacres humanity. You'll help survivors and get into punishing, high-speed fights against the Church's enforcers. The game looks to mix the rewarding challenge of the Souls games with the speed of classic action games. This was just one of dozens of announcements and trailers revealed during IGN Expo 2022 - make sure to check them all out. Joe...
Core Keeper, the mining sandbox adventure game from Pugstorm and Fireshine, has revealed its first major update, The Sunken Sea – and has added dedicated server support today. Shown off at IGN Expo, The Sunken Sea update has players navigating a brand new water-based biome, filled with aquatic threats and treasure-filled islands. The update adds boats for the first time, as well as new enemies, weapons, valuables, ores, base building items, and more. An exclusive teaser trailer gives us a hint at what's to come, including a gigantic three-eyed turtle... thing, which fires whirlwinds. No date has been given for the update, other than that it's coming soon. Today also sees the addition of dedicated server support for the up-to...
IGN Expo has seen the exclusive reveal of Aliens: Fireteam Elite - Pathogen, the first major DLC pack for the co-op shooter, which will be released on August 30. Pathogen will see Aliens: Fireteam Elite expanded with a brand new campaign containing three missions and new enemy types. The storyline sees the Endeavor's crew visit LV-895 where they find that the planet's xenomorphs have been infected and mutated into fearsome new forms. The trailer shows off several of these new aliens, which draw upon the grotesque white Neomorph designs from Alien Covenant. To combat those new threats, Pathogen provides eight new weapons, 26 new weapon attachments, and a new perk for each class that modifies its main ability. You can also expect two...
The Sonic series is no stranger to large departures from established formulas, and Sonic Frontiers is shaping up to be one of the biggest departures the blue hedgehog has seen yet. It takes the one-of-a-kind high speed 3D action and adapts it to fit a non-linear open world, or as Sonic Team themselves refer to it: an Open Zone. To break down the origin of this decision to break new ground with the 3D Sonic series, I talked with Sonic Team Creative Officer Takashi Iizuka, who not only explained the origin of the Open Zone design, but also spoke about the decision to merge old and new styles of Sonic gameplay in Sonic Frontiers. IGN: When did you first get the idea to make an open zone focused Sonic game? Was this something that you...
Street Fighter 6 is seemingly trying to expand the franchise on all fronts, including ways to make fun of your opponent. The game's official Twitter account has been revealing more and more of Street Fighter 6 since its first gameplay was shown off at PlayStation's State of Play last week, most recently highlighting the different taunts available. Street Fighter 6 will have character-specific taunts, with some of them being direct mockery towards the opposing character. In the clip shared on Twitter (below), Luke can be seen pretending to throw a weedy Hadouken in the face of Ryu. "Will Ryu stand for this mockery or be a Chad and do something about?" the post jokes, before hinting that Ryu will have a plethora of different taunts...
XCOM director Jake Solomon has confirmed the turn-based tactical series will definitely make a return. Speaking to VGC, Solomon said that XCOM will continue as long as he and the studio are around to make it. "As long as I live, as long as [developer] Firaxis lives, XCOM is... I won't even say sleeping," he said. "I will say XCOM is definitely not dead." The latest game in the series, XCOM: Chimera Squad, was released in 2020, but the studio has since switched to working on Marvel's Midnight Suns. This new game was announced in August last year and follows a similar formula to the XCOM games, though obviously set in the Marvel universe and featuring the likes of Iron Man, Wolverine, and Spider-Man. XCOM games have otherwise been...
Square Enix is hosting Final Fantasy 7 stream next week in celebration of the game's 25th anniversary – and many fans will be hoping to see a glimpse of Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Part 2. Streaming on the publisher's YouTube and Twitch channels, the stream will take place on June 16 at 3pm Pacific / 6pm Eastern / 11pm UK (so June 17 at 9am AEDT). It's unclear what Square Enix will announce during the ten minute stream but it promised fans "a first look at all the information surrounding the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy 7". While fans' may be hoping for some news regarding the long-awaited Remake: Part 2, it's worth noting that Square Enix has several ongoing spin-offs of the classic PlayStation RPG, and could just be announcing...
Devolver has, once again, out-weirded the rest of the games industry with its 2022 summer showcase. Hosted by a malfunctioning "mecha" Suda51, the Devolver Marketing Countdown to Marketing was, well, intended to be a countdown... but the ongoing Devolver Cinematic Universe we've seen evolve over the last few years managed include robots, sci-fi madness, and several game announcements. We’ve rounded up all of the new reveals in one handy place: Anger Foot is a New Game About 'Kicking Doors and Kicking Ass' Originally an itch.io game, an expanded version of Anger Foot is on its way in 2023. A bonkers FPS in which you use "the world's deadliest feet", Anger Foot will have you battering gangsters, buying new sneakers and upgrading your...

At the end of Day of the Devs today, Annapurna snuck in with the surprise announcement of its second annual showcase, just like it did last year. It will take place on July 28, 2022, at 12 pm PT / 3pm EDT / 8pm BST. As for what games we might see this time around, we can make some guesses. Right now, Annapurna has a number of games in the works for this year including Hindsight and Neon White (Stray will release before the showcase happens). Annapurna also has Skin Deep, Storyteller, and Thirsty Suitors queued up beyond 2022, so we might expect some firmer dates on those games, or at least more gameplay. Last year's showcase was fairly stacked, packing over 15 game teases and announcements into just half an hour. It included a...
With its sleek sci-fi/fantasy aesthetic, monstrous enemies, and mech-clad heroes, you’d be forgiven for mistaking Stormgate for a new Blizzard real-time strategy. And, in a manner of speaking, you’d be right; Stormgate might not be from Blizzard, but it is from some of that company’s brightest minds. These days they’re at Frost Giant, a new studio built from scratch by a collection of ex-Blizzard developers, and they have ambitions of taking some of the best ideas from StarCraft and Warcraft to the next level. Among those minds is Tim Morten, the softly spoken former production director of StarCraft 2. Today he’s CEO of Frost Giant, still directing the production of a multi-faceted RTS. Stormgate, he tells me, was born at least...

Day of the Devs just wrapped up, leaving us with a heck of a lineup of fascinating indie games slated for the coming months and years. We saw a total of 16 games over the last hour, some of them from known indie studios such as the folks behind Monument Valley, and others the debut games from new studios. We’ve got a roundup below of everything we just saw, so if you’re looking for the next indie darling to fall in love with, this is the place to check: Time Flies The newly-announced Time Flies explores the limited time we all have here on earth, from the perspective of a fly. The time the fly has to live is dependent on where you are in the world, converting years to seconds – so if life expectancy in the United States is about...
At Summer Game Fest today, we finally got a longer, more detailed look at Aaryn Flynn and Inflexion's upcoming survival game, Nightingale, including a detailed look at how players travel between different fae realms: by using realm cards. The trailer emphasizes the importance of the survival elements of Nightingale, focusing first on keeping warm, dry, and fed. Once that's accomplished, players can start to look for a way to move to new realms by crafting items called realm cards using rare resources they might encounter in the world they're currently exploring. The cards crafted and used can dictate certain properties of the realm they'll open the door to, allowing players some control over where they end up. These properties...
If you’re like me, then you've spent a lot of your time wishing you had Bruce Lee-level combat prowess that you could unleash upon endless waves of foolish challengers. Training to be that awesome sounds like a lot of work, but Midnight Fight Express helped me get a bit closer to that fantasy by absolutely nailing everything I’d want in a fast-paced, highly lethal, and fantastically challenging brawler. With an extensive set of unlockable skills and environments that begged to be an accomplice in my next felony assault, it was love at first dropkick to the face and I cannot wait to play more. At the heart of any good brawling game is a sandbox that allows for creativity, and Midnight Fight Express has got that in spades. Every room I...
Volition has announced Saints Row: Boss Factory, a free app that lets you use the game's custom character creator to build your main character before the game arrives. It's out now. Announced at Summer Game Fest, developer Volition revealed that Boss Factory would come to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC today. The free app will allow you to use the full character creator (minus any items unlocked by progressing through the game) to save up to six character designs. Those designs can be created on any platform, and imported into the final game on any other platform. You can even save and share your charcater design with other players, who can then use it in their game. Saint's Row has famously offered diverse character...
Bloober Team has announced Layers of Fears, a "psychedelic horror chronicle" made in Unreal Engine 5 and coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S in early 2023. Announced at Summer Game Fest, the game is seemingly pitched somewhere between a remaster and a sequel. Bloober promises that it will 'build on the foundations' of the original Layers of Fear, Layers of Fear: Inheritance, and Layers of Fear 2, but will "include an expanded plotline and gameplay direction." A trailer showed off what looked to be remade versions of scenes from all the Layers of Fear games, but it was hard to get a sense of what the gameplay changes might be, nor how they will be tied together. We'll be sure to ask Bloober Team what those might be when we can...
A release date for the stylish card-based shooter/platformer Neon White was revealed during the Summer Game Fest showcase, set to come out next week on June 16. A brand new trailer was debuted alongside the date. Developed by Donut County creator Ben Esposito and published by Annapurna Interactive, Neon White is coming to both PC and Nintendo Switch. It has an emphasis on speeding through levels, using cards as both different attacks and movement mechanics. We had a preview of Neon White earlier this year, and came away intrigued and ready to try it ourselves. Continue reading...
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge is launching on June 16, 2022. Announced during Summer Games Fest 2022, the release date news comes along with info that Casey Jones will be a playable character, and a new 6-player mode was also announced. Developed by Tribute Games, Shredder's Revenge sees the four heroes-in-a-half-shell return to a new adventure based on the classic 1987 Ninja Turtles cartoon, though the story isn't connected to the original TMNT arcade game or Turtles in Time. TMNT: Shredder's Revenge will be available for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch when it launches on June 16th. For more announcements from Summer Game Fest check out IGN's full round-up. Humankind, Amplitude Studios' turn-based historical strategy game, is coming to PlayStation 4/5, Xbox Series S/X, and Xbox One on Nov. 4, it was announced during today's Summer Game Fest. It will also make its debut on Xbox Game Pass (it's already available for PC Game Pass). It's now available for pre-order on console. The game also announced its second paid DLC, Cultures of Latin America, plus a free new patch called the "Bolivar Update." Expanding further in a blog post, Amplitude said Cultures of Latin America will include six new cultures (Caralans, Nazca, Taino, Inca, Argentinians, and Cubans), two new Cultural Wonders (Teotihuacan Pyramid of the Sun and Maracana Stadium), and four new Natural Wonders (Desert of Atacama...
A new trailer for Marvel’s Midnight Suns has revealed that Spider-Man will be a playable hero in the game, as well as an October release date. Shown during the Summer Games Fest Showcase, the cinematic trailer revealed a new hero that will be an unlockable character for your team roster: Spider-Man. Even better, he'll be voiced by Yuri Lowenthal (although he's not playing the same Spider-Man as he does in the PlayStation games, this is not a crossover or set in the same slice of the Marvel multiverse.) We were also provided Midnight Suns’ release date: October 7, 2022. That release date covers the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC versions. Midnight Suns will also release on Nintendo Switch, but at a later date. The...
Coffee Stain Studios is skipping straight to Goat Simulator 3. As announced at the Summer Game Fest, Coffee Stain Studios is following up their viral hit Goat Simulator with, not Goat Simulator 2, but Goat Simulator 3. Just as the first Goat Simulator parodied the famous Dead Island trailer, Goat Simulator 3's official trailer was a spoof on the eight-year-old trailer for Dead Island 2, which has disappeared from the public eye. In a double spoof, Goat Simulator 3 is taking a jab at the long wait time by going straight to the third entry. Despite the name "simulator" Goat Simulator is anything but. Play as a goat, create havoc around town, strap on a jetpack and go to space, you know, normal goat things. Head-butt through the...
I was a bit blindsided by the news that the team behind XCOM 2 was working on a Marvel tactics RPG with a card-based battle system. When I finally got my hands on Midnight Suns recently, I was even more surprised – by just how much of an RPG it really is. With a fully explorable quest hub, party member relationship side quests, and even a crafting system, this really is a first for Firaxis. At times it reminded me more of a BioWare game than anything they've made before. And who doesn't want to hang out with Spider-Man? The set-up is a reimagining of an early 90s comic story arc – that's Midnight Sons, with an O. Though readers of the comics should rest assured this isn't exactly the same story by any means, mainly borrowing a few...
The classic PC game Flashback is returning this year, and during the Summer Games Fest we got our first look at Flashback 2. Flashback 2 was first announced to be in development in May of 2021. The game is set 30 years after the original, a cinematic platformer set in the year 2142 where shapeshifting aliens have infiltrated humanity. The sequel will return to familiar locations like Neo Washington, as well as new areas like Neo Tokyo. Flashback 2 will launch in winter 2022 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with a Nintendo Switch version coming later in 2023. Developing... Continue reading...
Frost Giant, a studio made up of ex-Blizzard staff, has announced Stormgate, a new real-time strategy set in a post-apocalyptic future. Revealed as part of the Summer Game Fest Showcase, our first look at Stormgate is via a cinematic trailer that shows an archeologist piecing together an ancient shield. Her discovery is quickly interrupted by demonic forces, although thankfully a mech-clad ally with rockets and miniguns is able to save our hero from a grisly fate. Alongside the trailer, Frost Giant has revealed that Stormgate is a PC real-time strategy that will be free-to-play. It will have both a story-driven campaign and multiplayer modes, with co-op play integrated across the entire game. Campaign missions can be played with a...
