Dysterra is a brand-new, sci-fi survival game with futuristic FPS gameplay that challenges players to either compete or cooperate on a dying Earth as they strive to secure a one-way ticket to the stars — and survival. Dysterra is now in Early Access on PC via Steam, and we’re going to break down the five biggest reasons why this is one battle you won’t want to miss! Survive an Imminent Extinction by Building a Base Worthy of Legend Earth is on the brink of being destroyed by Terrafire explosions, and your only hope of avoiding extinction is to board escape rockets. So, what’s the problem? Well, there’s only a limited amount of space and time is tick, tick, ticking away. To retain any hope of making it off Earth before it's too...
FromSoftware's Elden Ring won the Grand Award at the PlayStation Partner Awards 2022 Japan Asia held earlier today in Tokyo. The Grand Award was given to the two games developed in the Asia region with the highest worldwide sales, and Elden Ring took home the honor along with Genshin Impact. As of the end of June, Elden Ring had sold over 16 million copies worldwide. Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki participated in a Q&A session with media during the PlayStation Partner Awards, where he was asked what he thinks is the reason for the game’s runaway success. “Honestly, I haven't analyzed it much,” Miyazaki replied. “It’s true that sales were higher than those of our previous games, but I have no idea what the reason was. So even...
After a month of Atomic Heart coverage as part of IGN First, we still had plenty of things we wanted to know about the upcoming shooter. So, we asked game director Robert Bagratuni just a few of the many questions we still have and learned plenty of interesting new details. There’s lots of melee combat. Is this by design or are resources such as ammo limited? Mundfish says that “every game needs balance, and Atomic Heart is no exception. We meticulously crafted each weapon so that it behaves uniquely in combat and is necessary for its way. Yes, melee helps to save ammo, because there are a lot of enemies, and it's unlikely you'll always have enough ammo to take them all out. That is why we have a special mechanic that allows us to...
Marvel Snap players have found a legitimate way to raise Black Panther's power level to over 600,000, practically breaking the game in the process. As reported by Polygon, who encountered the combo first hand, combining Black Panther with Wong, Ironheart, Odin, and the Onslaught's Citadel location brings its power level to 689,730. That's at least the number Marvel Snap landed on after it freaked out a little, and even then its numbers showed up completely stretched out and outside the allocated space. For those unfamiliar, Marvel Snap power levels usually range from single digit totals to potentially 20 or 30 if a card is very good, making the 600,000 number an eye-watering amount. The combo isn't even particularly hard to pull...
The Callisto Protocol's Steam reviews are suffering as several users are reporting a stuttering frame rate on PC. As reported by PC Gamer, the game's Steam page currently has a mostly negative rating with just 29% of the 2,840 reviews being positive. The Callisto Protocol is described as a "stuttering mess" by one user while another commented: "It's pretty hard to get immersed when the game drops frames every time you go around a corner." Several of these users also claimed to be running The Callisto Protocol on high-end graphics cards including the RTX 3080, but even then the frame rate regularly drops significantly. "Currently I can't even walk through the opening area and turn a corner without stuttering on a 3080 with ray...
EA has teased what's coming in Season 4 of Battlefield 2042 and confirmed that a Season 5 is also on the way, though the latter won't feature a specialist. Season 4 is set to launch in early 2023, according to a new blog posted on EA’s website. The season will bring with it a new recon Specialist and Battle Pass, fresh hardware, re-worked environments, and new maps, one of which will heavily reference Battlefield 4. Developer DICE has promised the Season 4 map will be a “smaller, shorter, and linear” close-quarters affair, which sounds like a change of pace from the sprawling environments on offer at the moment. Season 5 will offer a similar amount of content to previous seasons - with the introduction of another map, new hardware...
A proper remake might be rising from the grave next year, but the festering corpse of Dead Space has come lurching back to life early in the form of The Callisto Protocol. This spiritual successor to the sci-fi survival horror series recreates the haunting blood-streaked hallways and space zombie-slaying hallmarks first established on the USG Ishimura back in 2008, and injects the gore with more awe than ever before thanks to some strikingly detailed splashes of blood and guts. Unfortunately, while the mutant dismemberment has never been more vivid, The Callisto Protocol’s shortcomings appear just as clearly. Occasional control annoyances, imbalanced combat, and a general absence of innovation result in a roughly eight-hour massacre...
Most recent World of Warcraft expansions started with a tightly scripted, story-heavy, and somewhat bothersome on-rails scenario. Dragonflight seems to have remembered that this is an MMORPG and I should be deciding what kind of adventures I want to go on. Right off the boat onto the expansive, beautiful Dragon Isles, you'll be met with only minimal handholding and four huge, new zones to explore. It's like Blizzard finally learned to trust us to find the fun without supervision, and they're letting us have the run of the world again. I still have a lot of this expansion left to play, but it’s already so refreshing. As of now, I've leveled from 60 to 67 and quested through two of Dragonflight's four major zones. They really fly by –...
Monster Hunter Rise is making the move to all consoles, as the previously Switch-exclusive game will soon be available on PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows. Plus, Xbox Game Pass subscribers can look forward to Rise joining the service for consoles, PC, and cloud at launch. Capcom announced the game's multiplatform release is set for January 20, 2023. Monster Hunter Rise originally launched exclusively on Nintendo Switch in March 2021, before it came to Steam earlier this year. Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak — the major expansion already available on Switch and Steam — is coming to all platforms sometime next Spring. Unfortunately for hunters who have already poured hundreds of hours into Rise on Switch or...
Frictional Games has announced the next game in the horrifying Amnesia series, Amnesia: The Bunker, and it’s potentially the biggest departure from the series yet. The studio announced that their next Amnesia game will be coming to Xbox, PlayStation, and PC in 2023. The developers are calling Amnesia: The Bunker their most open game yet with players able to explore a semi-open world with hardly any scripted events. This means players can explore different paths and areas without being constrained, but the terror will come from an “ever-present threat” so be warned. Furthermore, players will be able to choose their gameplay style as they will be equipped with both a revolver and noisy dynamo flashlight. While players can defend...
Angel Matrix announced that its first-person platformer game will be hitting PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on December 13. The PlayStation 5 version will run at 120hz. “When precision matters, the high framerate makes a difference. We’ve also made the most of the system SSD to reduce load times significantly,” says game director Ben Esposito. “It’s important that restarting levels is as quick and painless as possible. If you want to beat your friends’ leaderboard times, you’ll be restarting levels over and over again.” The game will also take advantage of the PS5 DualSense controller’s adaptive triggers when players utilize each of their Soul Cards to traverse through the many levels and puzzles it has to offer. “You’ll feel it...
December is another busy month for Xbox Game Pass with a ton of new titles arriving on console and PC. Xbox confirmed its final line-up of 2022 in a blog post, and headlining the new additions is High On Life, the ridiculously wacky shooter from Rick and Morty's Justin Roiland that arrives on December 13. Also coming this month is a range of modern classics, however, including LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga on December 6, The Walking Dead: The Final Season today, December 1, and the hardcore rhythm action game set in hell, Metal: Hellsinger on December 8. Other games confirmed for December include Hot Wheels Unleashed, Eastward, Chained Echoes, and more. High on Life Is Available on Xbox Game Pass From December 13 The wild and...
My Time at Portia developer Pathea Games has announced Let's School, a school management sim that tasks you with becoming the best headmaster you can possibly be. It is due out for PC in early 2023. Incredibly, this project started as a prototype by one person, and then the rest of the studio loved it so much they enthusiastically got on board. “Let’s School is a bit of a departure from what the world knows us for, but after being prototyped by our producer Lanka for 18 months everyone at the studio just fell in love with the project,” brand manager Alice Zhou said. “Since then the team has grown substantially to a handful of developers and we’re been blown away by what they’ve been able to achieve. Any fans of management sims are...
Having been there since the public announcement, I've had lots of chances to put Company of Heroes 3 through its paces. We even did a whole month of exclusive IGN First coverage on it. And chances are, with how open the development has been, you've played a slice or two yourself already. But all of that felt like running my fingers along various gears and armor plates that hadn't been assembled into a full tank yet. And now that I've gotten to see both the Italian and North African campaigns in something closer to a finished state, the bigger picture is starting to come together. What was missing from all the earlier builds, more than anything, was a sense of cohesion and storytelling. Both campaigns are now introduced with the sort...
Life isn't always easy. Whether you're navigating online realms or IRL, you should know that pitfalls can and do pop up. All that being said and as much as we'd all love to be living in a scumbag-free utopia, protective measures are required. Quite a few of them, in fact. A wise traveller will cover themselves for financial protection, physical security, PC file health and even an invisibility cloak to thwart the prying eyes of Big Brother. Let's take a run at getting you properly Fort Knoxed with all of the above. We've identified smart ways to pay for goods and reduce the percentage chance of ripoffs. We've also included a selection of review-tested VPNS and antivirus software to ensure your batcomputer won't end up riddled with...
Former The Legend of Zelda director Kentaro Tominaga is working an open world dress up RPG called Infinity Nikki. As reported by Kotaku, Tominaga is leading the game at developer PaperGames after working as a designer on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and as director of its Expansion Pass. Infinity Nikki has an almost Disney mixed with anime aesthetic and a core gameplay loop of exploring a colourful open world full of puzzles and platforming. Protagonist Nikki can change outfits to perform different abilities and tasks, and as a reveal trailer (above) shows, this will include the likes of fishing, cooking, and catching bugs. "Join Momo and Nikki as they embark on a new adventure collecting various pieces of clothing...
Ubisoft has released some surprise DLC for Assassin's Creed Valhalla that features a character from the next game, Assassin's Creed Mirage. As reported by Polygon, Ubisoft announced on Twitter (below) that a new quest called Shared History can now be downloaded for free, introducing Roshan from the upcoming Mirage to Valhalla protagonist Eivor. Roshan is the mentor of Basim, another character from Valhalla and protagonist of the next game. Given his status as a master assassin, it's only natural that Roshan is too, and her quest kicks off with some foreshadowing of what's to come in Mirage. This DLC (alongside the previously announced Last Chapter) marks the end of Valhalla's post launch content and arrives more than two years...
Capcom has announced that Street Fighter 6's Closed Beta Test 2 will take place from December 16 to 19. Announced in a blog post, applications for entry into the second testing period are now open, though Capcom is being a lot more strict as a result of people selling their codes for Beta Test 1 online. Players must now have their Capcom ID and platform account linked before applying for entry, and once submitted, will have a chance to be selected via a random lottery. Those who participated in the first test will gain automatic entry into the second. A total of eight characters will be playable - Luke, Jamie, Ryu, Chun-Li, Guile, Kimberly, Juri, and Ken - though character creation will also be available alongside other Battle Hub...
There’s a tricky, but boundlessly creative combat system powering Marvel’s Midnight Suns, a tactics game from XCOM developer Firaxis. It relies on drawing and playing Marvel character cards, making it different enough from the studio’s traditional team tactics formula, but not as close to Marvel Snap’s turn-based deck-building as it may initially sound. It’s a new twist on familiar concepts, combining to create something truly unique, but it does take a little getting used to. In order for you to make the most of its intricate systems, discover some crafty combos, and pick your perfect team, here’s a brief guide to how combat works in Marvel’s Midnight Suns. In the Mission Each mission requires you to bring in three different...
Today's a top day for stocking stuffer sportsballin'. If you're not into that, why not grab a PlayStation Hit—in particular, a "Game of All-Time" going for $8. Lastly, there's the matter of my Throwback Thursday deal. Two things strike me as insane about this pick. Firstly, that Metal Gear Solid V is somehow seven years old. And two: the Definitive Edition of it is going for under a fiver. Kojima's masterpiece still holds up phenomenally well. You'd be mad to miss it. For the first time in nearly three decades, video game composer and designer Yuzo Koshiro is working on a new game for the Sega Genesis. Koshiro is best known for contributing music to classic game series like Streets of Rage, The Revenge of Shinobi, Actraiser, Ys, and more. Now, the developer is working on a brand new shoot 'em up game designed for the original Genesis/Mega Drive hardware. As revealed on Twitter, Koshiro posted a couple of images of the game that depict a spaceship flying through what appears to be an alien planet. Koshiro wrote, "It looks like an old shoot 'em up but is a new game we're developing, harkening back to famous franchises in the 80s. We will release it for MD/Genesis. I'm making the soundtrack and...
Sega has revealed the 2023 content roadmap for Sonic Frontiers. The game will receive 3 updates throughout the year, including a new playable character and story. In a roadmap, Sega revealed the first update will include a Juke Box feature which could potentially allow players to choose the music they hear in the game. There will also be a Photo Mode and new Challenge Modes for players to tackle. The second update will celebrate Sonic’s birthday in some sort of fashion. The franchise's birthday is in June, so that could be a hint as to when the update could potentially arrive. It’ll add more Open Zone Challenges to play and Koko to collect. The third and final update is the biggest one, which will include more playable characters...
Sony has announced that the PlayStation Plus games for December 2022 are Mass Effect: Legendary Edition (PS4), Biomutant (PS4 and PS5), and Divine Knockout: Founder's Edition (PS4 and PS5). As revealed on the PlayStation Blog, all three games will be made available at no extra cost to all PlayStation Plus subscribers on December 6. Mass Effect: Legendary Edition turns the three-game line-up into a heftier five as it contains remastered versions of all three original Mass Effect games. Widely considered some of the best RPGs of all time, these modern sci-fi classics follow the story of Commander Shepard as they embark on several galaxy ending missions. In our 9/10 review of what we called the best of the bunch, IGN said: "Mass...
Blizzard Entertainment has revealed what we can expect from Season 2 of Overwatch 2, including balancing updates, limited-time events, skins, and more ahead of its December 6 launch date. Alongside the introduction of the new Omnic revolutionary tank hero Ramattra and the winding Shambali Monastery Escort map, Season 2 is also bringing some important balancing changes, according to Blizzard Entertainment’s official blog post. Most significantly, Blizzard Entertainment has moved to nerf the damage hero Sojourn, who according to a blog post on the company’s website has been dominating the high-skill competitive scene in recent weeks, while “remaining a challenge for players without the same mechanical skills”. To address the issue...
One of my favorite things about watching superheroes duke it out is when someone gets smacked so hard they fly backwards and crash through solid walls, explode tanker trucks, or slam into their friends. It’s an awesome demonstration of just how strong these godlike characters are supposed to be, and it’s always a disappointment when a superhero game doesn’t quite capture that feeling. With Marvel’s Midnight Suns, however, Firaxis has built a deep and innovative turn-based tactical combat system around the joy of having Iron Man, Dr. Strange, Blade, and more knock enemies around like toys they're trying to break – and that hasn’t gotten old in the roughly 75 hours of its surprisingly expansive RPG campaign. A lot of that time isn’t spent...
Starfield developer Bethesda is currently working on a new mobile game, though it's unclear which of its famous franchises it's based on. Speaking to Lex Fridman on the latest episode of his podcast, Bethesda executive producer and Starfield director Todd Howard revealed that the Elder Scrolls and Fallout developer has another mobile game in the works. Talking about the conceptual differences between designing a console game versus one for mobile, Howard said plainly: "Well we've done a few things, and we have a new mobile game that we're working on that we haven't announced yet that I am in love with." He didn't give anything else away regarding its genre, release date, and so on, but did allude that it would be a more in depth...
