EA has reiterated that a game the company is describing as a "Major IP" will be released before March 31, 2023, and it just may or may not be Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
On Page 10 of EA's Q2 FY 2023 Results slideshow, EA lists the games it is expecting to release before the end of its Fiscal Year 2023 on March 31, 2023. While there are many games we've already learned about in its Q4 list, including the Dead Space Remake, PGA Tour, Super Mega Baseball, and Wild Hearts, there is one game listed only as "Major IP" that is quite notable.
If we look at every EA game in development, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor seems to be the best bet for what this mystery game may be. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is the sequel to 2019's Star Wars Jedi: Fallen...
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II has set a new record for the best-selling weekend in the franchise's history, bringing in a total of $800 million worldwide in sell-through after only three days on the market, according to publisher Activision.
Given the series' history and cultural impact, it's never a surprise that Call of Duty regularly sees staggering sales numbers at launch. However, this year's second entry in the rebooted Modern Warfare series has already rapidly surpassed the previous franchise record set by 2011's Modern Warfare 3, which brought in $775 million across a five-day span.
“Thank you, Call of Duty players, for making Modern Warfare II’s launch one for the record books as well as the highest grossing entertainment...

During EA's Q2 2023 earnings call, the company addressed the recent deal with Marvel and how the decision to enter into another partnership with Disney was driven by the success from the company's previous deal with Star Wars.
During the call, EA was asked if it could offer more details about the recently announced deal with Marvel that will see EA work on three Marvel games starting with EA Motive's Iron Man game. While EA declined to go into that much more detail, the company said that it is seeking to be a "cooperative" and creative partnership rather than a "transactional" one.
Furthermore, the decision to sign a new deal with Disney was a result of the previous Star Wars deal where EA says "over 40 percent of Star Wars players...
FIFA 23 will be getting its free FIFA World Cup 2022 update on November 9, 2022, and will bring with it the teams of the 32 qualified nations into an authentic experience.
The FIFA World Cup update will arrive on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC, but, unfortunately, FIFA 23 Legacy Edition on Switch will not be getting the update.
Instead, Switch owners will be left with the standard version of the game that we gave a 2/10 when it was released. FIFA Mobile players, on the other hand, will get to jump in a day early on November 8.
FIFA 23 players will get to play as any of the 32 qualified nations from the upcoming World Cup, and the entire tournament will be playable. Furthermore, players will be able to customize the...
Alan Wake and Control developer Remedy has five games in development, and the studio shared minor updates on each one through a recent business release.
Remedy CEO Tero Virtala said Alan Wake 2 is in the "full production stage", and that it's still on track to release in 2023. Virtala said the "game is coming together on all fronts", but there is a lot of work left to do. We haven't heard about Alan Wake 2 since Remedy shared new concept art in May, but at the time, director Sam Lake said a lot of the game was already playable.
There are two Control projects in the works, Codename Condor and Codename Heron. Codename Condor is the 4-player co-op PvE title announced last summer. Virtala said this multiplayer project is still in the...
The Embracer Group is shutting down Onoma just months after its acquisition, with some staff set to be transferred to sister studio Eidos Montreal, Bloomberg reports.
Formerly known as Square Enix Montreal, Onoma was acquired along with the rest of Square Enix's former western holdings back in August. It subsequently took on the name Onoma back in October.
According to Bloomberg, the move is likely a cost-cutting measure, as Eidos Montreal is reportedly reducing the scope of one project and plans to cancel another. Eidos Montreal is also reportedly helping Microsoft to develop a game in the Fable franchise, though it's unclear if it's serving as a support studio for Playground Games' Fable project. It appears to be similar to the...
The Last of Us is the next video game to get its own board game adaptation. Naughty Dog has announced a partnership with Themeborne — creators of the Escape the Dark series — to create a tabletop game titled The Last of Us: Escape the Dark.
Escape the Dark is a series of cooperative board games featuring black and white illustrated chapter cards that players work to solve together. Themeborne's take on The Last of Us will have 1-5 players take control of Ellie, Joel, Tess, Bill, Tommy, or Marlene as they attempt to reach safety while exploring an open-world map.
The gameplay features familiar locations from the original Last of Us, including the Suburbs, Sewers, and University, and a combination of human and infected enemies. You...
Blizzard has announced that it is temporarily removing Overwatch 2 hero Mei from the game due to a bug. The character is expected to return to the game alongside the next patch, which is due out on November 15.
"We are temporarily disabling Mei to address a bug with her Ice Wall ability that allows heroes to reach unintended locations," Blizzard stated in a tweet from its customer service account. "We are working to address these issues as quickly as possible and aim to bring Mei back in our next upcoming patch which is set for November 15."
The bug allowed Mei to use her wall to get her to locations outside the gameplay boundaries, which frequently resulted in players being able to hide out of sight from opponents and earn easy...
It's mid-October 2022, and I'm back at Blizzard HQ. The last time I was here (and as a matter of fact, in America as a whole) was in late January 2020, just as COVID-19 was really starting to build a head of steam. A lot has changed since then. Blizzard has had a very public fall from grace, as many of the company's employees stood up and made their voices heard on a wide range of issues, from rampant gender inequality to toxic work cultures. The campus itself is also a strange shadow of its former self. Once a bustling mini-metropolis with open plan offices full of people, meeting rooms playing host to lively discussions and dogs congregating alongside their owners on the lawn outside the cafeteria, the halls and working spaces are now...
The Hearthstone team today announced a hugely exciting set of updates. Let me just bullet point it out for you to give you an idea of the scope, and then we'll dive into the details:
- The Death Knight class is being added to Hearthstone and has impressively varied gameplay thanks to a Blood/Frost/Undead rune system and corpse mechanic. It will have 68 cards at launch.
- Alongside the new class will be a new expansion - March of the Lich King, which is rooted in Warcraft lore and is based around the Lich King's Scourge attacking the Blood Elves of Silvermoon City. It will introduce a new keyword - Manathirst.
- Undead is a new minion type debuting with the set, and hundreds of legacy cards have also been tagged as Undead. Many...
Most of us don't think much about backing up our data. We've got smartphones, tablets, laptops, and desktops storing tons of our precious files, photos, and content, and usually, everything is fine. But, once in a while, the worst can happen. We might accidentally do something that bricks our tablet. Our phone might slip out of our pocket and vanish into the ether, or that old hard drive might finally give up the ghost and take all your pictures with it.
So, you should be backing up your devices, and a NAS (network-attached storage) drive is a great option for handling that. These devices hook into your home network, letting you transfer data to and from them. And, since you can have many devices connected to the same network at once...
A senior writer on Horizon: Forbidden West has left Guerrilla Games to join Playground and work on the upcoming Xbox exclusive Fable reboot.
As reported by Eurogamer, Andrew Walsh announced on LinkedIn that he was leaving the world of PlayStation to start work on its rival Xbox's upcoming fantasy game developed by the Forza Horizon studio.
This won't be Walsh's first foray into Fable, however, as he previously served as narrative lead on the cancelled co-op spin-off game Fable Legends, working at the now defunct Lionhead Studios from 2013 to 2015.
Walsh had most recently served as associate narrative director on the PlayStation VR 2's Horizon: Call of the Mountain, but has a long-running career in video game writing. He's...
The upcoming Final Fantasy Trading Card Game set, Resurgence of Power, will soon release this year on December 9. The new booster set is packed full of fan favorites from Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 8, and Final Fantasy 13 just to name a few. Speaking of Final Fantasy 13, we have an exclusive reveal of the newest Lightning card, one of the rarest cards in the set. Take a look in all its glory:
The new dual-color Lightning is a crazy strong card costing a measly two crystal power or mana. If you're running a lightning and water deck or cards that can play two cost cards for free, this Lightning will fit in just perfectly. First off, she has Haste which allows her to attack the same turn she was played. Paired with her...
Level Zero is an asymmetric multiplayer survival horror game that looks as if Dead By Daylight and Alien Isolation were thrown into a blender – potentially in the very best of ways. It’s that classic story of a science expedition gone wrong. Teamwork is everything, of course, as four scientists fight to survive against two powerful monsters in a PvP showdown. Developer DogHowl Games recently invited me to a hands-off preview, and so far, I’m feeling optimistic.
As the science team, your goal is to restart the electrical system, finding and fixing the broken fusebox in all three sectors. That requires a toolbox hidden in the darkness, so don’t go rushing ahead, though failure to restart the power within 30 minutes results in defeat...

Warning: this interview contains explicit language.

While Gears of War has always been connected to the Xbox brand, the series was created by Epic Games as an exclusive. And though the series eventually found its way to Microsoft's first-party portfolio, lead designer Cliff Bleszinski shared his thoughts on the sale.
IGN sat down with Bleszinski for a new episode of Unfiltered and found out how the game director felt when it was announced that Epic Games would sell the franchise to Microsoft in 2014. This was two years after Bleszinski left Epic Games in 2012.
"I honestly think once Lee Perry [Gameplay Designer, Gears of War 2], myself, and Rod Ferguson [Producer, Gears of War] left, I believe that Epic didn't really know what to do with the franchise," Bleszinski tells IGN. He...
So it's not a blow your socks off get ready for Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5 month(s) like last year, but there's still another extremely strong month ahead for Xbox Game Pass members. Xbox has confirmed its first round of games for Game Pass in November, and there's certainly a few that'll prick your ears up. Just remember, these are only the first wave of games announced this month, we'll likely get a few more announcements in and around November 15.
For starters, Return to Monkey Island will be hitting Game Pass on November 8 for console, PC, and cloud, and we're also getting the popular Vampire Survivors for console players on November 10 (it's already available for those on PC Game Pass). Other games also confirmed for...
Video game industry veteran Cliff "CliffyB" Bleszinski has admitted he had an intense rivalry with id Software co-founder and Doom co-creator John Romero in the 1990s when he was working at Epic Games.
Speaking to IGN, Bleszinski said that, as the co-designer of Unreal, he was "gunning to try and defeat" id Software's Quake and its lead designer and director Romero.
"I saw Romero as my enemy," he said. "He was dating Stevie Case at the time, who's in Playboy and whatnot, and I was like, 'I'm going to take that guy down'. It goes back to, again, the whole, I had nothing and I wanted it, you had everything and you flaunted it. So we were gunning to try and defeat [Quake]."
"I saw Romero as my enemy. He was dating Stevie Case at the...
PlayStation and Santa Monica Studio’s critically acclaimed God of War (2018) has now sold more than 23 million copies to date, according to the latest Sony earnings report.
The new sales figure is up from the 19.5 million copies sold as of October 2021, with the increase likely owed in part to the PC version of God of War being released earlier this year, that saw Sony's biggest launch on the platform to date.
God of War: Ragnarok's imminent release may be another reason for the boost in sales, and Sony is expecting the sequel to perform just as well as its predecessor.
"The previous God of War game released in 2018 was one of the biggest titles ever released exclusively for PlayStation, selling 23 million units cumulative to...
Resident Evil's survival horror and Ghost of Tsushima's open world action couldn't seem further apart on paper, but the worldwide appeal of both games makes them weirdly similar according to a former Capcom producer.
Speaking to IGN, Hiroyuki Kobayashi said the U.S.-based Sucker Punch's creation of a globally appealing Japanese game like Ghost of Tsushima is very similar to how he and his colleagues at Capcom created the very American seeming Resident Evil franchise.
"As a game about Japan made by non-Japanese developers, Ghost of Tsushima kind of reminded me how we [at Capcom] as Japanese developers made a horror game set in the United States with Resident Evil back in the day," he said. "At the time, it might have been surprising...

Through its (near-)consistent excellence, innovation, and longevity, Resident Evil games has earned its crown as the king of survival of horror. Capcom debuted its world of mutants and mercenaries in 1996 and has since grown Resident Evil into a multimedia franchise that spans over two dozen console games, six films, two recent Netflix series, novels, comics, and even stage plays.
It can be an exciting franchise to explore given the amount of content it houses, though for the same reason, it can be an equally daunting series to approach. This article focuses exclusively on video games and cuts out the convolution by presenting two ways to play only the most narratively significant and accessible Resident Evil games in order.

Following Yakuza series creator Toshihiro Nagoshi and No More Heroes creator Goichi Suda, popularly known as "Suda51," Capcom veteran Hiroyuki Kobayashi announced his move to NetEase Games back in August this year. Today, NetEase revealed Kobayashi's new studio as GPTRACK50, located in Osaka. At Capcom, Kobayashi worked as the producer on the Resident Evil series as well as Devil May Cry.
“I was at Capcom for 27 years. During my time, the company became a lot bigger and a lot of new staff came in,” Kobayashi told IGN in an exclusive interview.
“I worked on a wide array of titles at Capcom, but I wanted a new challenge,” he explained. “Of course, it’s not like Capcom didn’t allow me to try out new things, but now that the company is a...
The claustrophobic press of frenzied melee, whistling of missiles, and thunderous charge of cavalry are often represented in games, but rarely so personally as in the Mount & Blade series. It’s not often I get the feeling I’m experiencing what must’ve been the needs of a commander at eye-level on the field trying to maneuver his forces, or being forced to desperately scramble among bodies for a quiver of arrows or fresh shield. This is the appeal of Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord, and it outweighs all of the holes, bugs, and underwhelming strategy and roleplaying mechanics you have to wade through to get here. When you reach the battlefield, this low-fantasy medieval simulation is unmatched.
Bannerlord drops you into the shoes of a...
Xbox’s Phil Spencer has said that that should Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard go through, the company will continue to ship Call of Duty on PlayStation as long as there are PlayStation consoles out to ship to.
On the Same Brain YouTube channel, Spencer said (starting at 28:40), “We're not taking Call of Duty from PlayStation. That's not our intent. Our intent is not to do that and as long as there's a PlayStation out there to ship to, our intent is that we'll continue to ship Call of Duty on PlayStation. Similar to what we've done with Minecraft since we owned that.”
He goes on to reiterate how Microsoft has kept Minecraft available on other platforms, and that Xbox could do the same for Call of Duty over the next few...
Ikea has sent a cease and desist letter to the developer of The Store is Closed, an indie survival game about spending the night in a furniture store.
As reported by Kotaku, lawyers representing Ikea have accused solo developer Jacob Shaw of committing trademark infringement and have given him ten days to change parts of his game that allegedly represent Ikea branding.
This includes a blue and yellow sign, a Scandinavian name (STYR), yellow vertical striped shirts, a grey path on the floor, and some furniture. "All the foregoing immediately suggest that the game takes place in an Ikea store", the lawyers' letter said.
No reference to Ikea exists on The Store is Closed's Steam or Kickstarter pages, however, and Shaw maintains that...
