Today at Summer Game Fest, Larian Studios revealed that actor Jason Isaacs will be playing a major antagonist in Baldur's Gate 3: a character named Lord Enver Gortash.
In the game, Gortash has stepped up as the protector of Baldur's Gate after the disappearance of Duke Ravengard. He's the designer of a group of magic, clockwork warriors known as the Steel Watchers, and wields quite a bit of power as a result.
Isaacs is no stranger to villain roles, notably honing the character of Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter films from 2001 to 2011, as well as Captain Hook in 2003's Peter Pan. Other recent roles include Vasili in Hotel Mumbai and Field Marshal Zhukov in The Death of Stalin. In games, he's recently voiced roles in Marvel's...

As revealed by Second Dinner development chief Ben Brode during Summer Game Fest, Conquest mode adds a new single loss, elimination-style tournament to the mobile phone and PC card game.
Conquest takes place over the course of each in-game season, with exclusive rewards up for grabs. (Conquest has no impact on a player’s Marvel Snap season rank.)

Winners get a Silver Ticket, which is then used to try Silver Conquest. Conquer that and you get a Gold Ticket. Win in Gold Conquest and you get the Infinite Ticket. Then, during the...

Revealed at Summer Game Fest 2023, the game is set to come to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC sometime this winter.
The new look opens with a cutscene setting the stage for a battle against a Tyranid splinter fleet on Avarax and Kodaku. We then saw a montage of third-person shooting across space stations, cities, and the wilderness, promising the same bloody action of the original. Then comes the big reveal, when Titus is joined by two other soldiers to blast through the hordes of Tyranids.
Geoff Keighley also showed off Space Marine 2 at The Game Awards last year, revealing...

The new trailer, which you can watch below, gives us another look at the grim and bleak fantasy world players will venture across.
Witchfire was announced back in 2017 at The Game Awards that year and news on the game has been seldom for the last several years. It would not be until 2022, at last year's Summer Games Fest, that...
Mortal Kombat 1 looks as absurdly violent as you'd hope, as brand new extended gameplay today showed some absolutely gruesome fatalities, one after another, and characters such as Liu Kang, Sub Zero, Scorpion, and Raiden showcased.
Revealed at Summer Game Fest, the new Mortal Kombat 1 trailer also showed off our first real look at assist characters, or Kameos. Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon also took the stage after the trailer, detailing that Mortal Kombat 1 takes place in a "new timeline" where characters we've seen before have their stories told in a brand new way in a "reboot" of sorts.
Kameo fighters are chosen during character select after choosing your main fighter, and can be called out multiple times during a fight to assist...

At the time of writing no price was confirmed, and the PC version has yet to receive an official release date.

Friday the 13th: The Game will no longer be available to buy after this year, publisher Gun Interactive has announced.
It's due to the expiration of the Friday the 13th licence, set for December 31 2023.
In a statement posted on the official Friday the 13th: The Game Twitter account, Gun said that after December 31, 2023, it will no longer be able to sell physical or digital copies of the asymmetrical survival horror multiplayer game. Though the statement notes the game will continue to be playable "through at least December 31, 2024," provided you bought the game before the end of this year.

The U.S. video game subscription market is likely approaching a plateau in terms of player spending, according to new data from analytics firm Circana.
According to the company’s Games Market Dynamics report, in April 2023 game subscription spending in the U.S. was only 2% higher than in the same period last year.
“Finding new subscribers beyond the console ownership base has proven very difficult thus far,” Circana executive director Mat Piscatella said in a tweet.
Sony’s PlayStation Plus saw zero growth in subscribers year-on-year ending March 31. As of the end of March, Plus had 47.4 million subscribers. This comes despite the launch of PS Plus Premium and PS Plus Extra in June last year.
Microsoft’s Game Pass hit 25 million...
The Day Before developer Fntastic has insisted the game's Steam page, which was removed in January over a trademark dispute, will be back online soon.
Speaking to Well Played, Fntastic claimed it was "the first to start using this name related to the video game" and said it's "optimistic about regaining our name through legal proceedings as swiftly as possible".
Though it didn't give a timeline for this, despite The Day Before set to launch in just five months on November 10, Fntastic said the "Steam page will be reinstated soon".
The Day Before was removed from Steam after the developers of a 2010 countdown app of the same name found out about the video game. Fntastic postponed The Day Before's release date as a result of the...

The news prompted an outpouring of support from industry professionals and fans alike.
“I had no idea,” wrote Cockle in response to a tweet from charity Prostate Cancer UK. “Random check and Boom… I have full blown prostate cancer. Treatment ongoing but looking good so far. Men over 50… get a PSA test… just in case.”
Industry peers and friends were quick to wish the actor a speedy recovery, and express gratitude to him for sharing his diagnosis. ”Sending our best wishes! We know you can beat this, witcher,” commented the...
Magic: The Gathering's upcoming Lord of the Rings expansion includes a one-of-a-kind One Ring card that collectors are already willing to pay $1 million for.
Trading card buying and collecting company Dave and Adam's Card World has issued an unprecedented $1 million bounty for the special One Ring card, doubling the $500,000 offered by fellow collector and investor Cassius Marsh Sr.
Announcing their $1 million bounty on Twitter (below), if this amount is actually paid for the One Ring it will easily become the most expensive and sought after Magic: The Gathering card of all time. The record is currently held by a Beta set Black Lotus which sold for $540,000 in March.
There are caveats, however, that don't guarantee the One Ring...
Diablo 4 is Blizzard’s fastest-selling game, but one customer can’t play it.
That customer is Oscar-winning Ghost actress Whoopi Goldberg, who said she bought the action role-playing game thinking she could play it on her Mac like its predecessors. Diablo 4, unfortunately for Goldberg, is only available for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
In a video posted to her Instagram account, first reported by Entertainment Weekly, Goldberg pleaded with Blizzard to release Diablo 4 on Mac.
"This is what I'm asking you, Blizzard," Goldberg said. "This is Whoopi. You know how much I love Diablo. I would like y'all to let those of us who use our Apples to play… allow us to play on the Apple. Take Diablo 4 and let us do it and have a great time.”...
Resident Evil: Code Veronica starts ominously.
An opening crawl tells us a mid-western town, Raccoon City, has been completely decimated due to a T-Virus outbreak. Helicopters fly towards a mysterious island where Claire Redfield’s unloaded and then knocked out – she was captured by the Umbrella Corporation while infiltrating a Parisian lab. She was looking for her brother, the infamous police officer Chris Redfield. In a flashback, Claire sprints down a hallway, a machine gun firing at her, shards of glass going everywhere. She’s soon cornered and captured, but not without setting a few Umbrella employees on fire.
If any of the series’ early installments deserves a comeback, it’s Code Veronica.
It’s an opening cutscene as instantly...
After three years, an extremely dedicated group of Final Fantasy IX fans have shared a hands-on gameplay demo, showcasing their own take on what a remake of the game would look like.
The latest update from the project was a 25-minute video of a full gameplay demo. Unfortunately, however, this is the furthest this remake will go and you'll probably never be able to play it, as the group behind the project has said in the past that it has no intentions to publicly release this unless they receive consent from Square Enix. As they put it on their website:
“Memoria Project is a proof of concept and is not meant to be viewed as a playable product. We will never do anything to infringe upon Square Enix’s copyright.”
Still, at least we get...
Madden NFL has even more to prove than usual this year. Heading into its fourth year in the PS5 / Xbox Series X generation, EA’s storied football series has more in common with the Chicago Bears than the reigning champion Kansas City Chiefs. The last three entries have been battered by fans and critics alike, with last year’s release averaging a 69 on Metacritic.
As in previous years, EA’s strategy is to basically play defense and ignore the bad press, claiming that players are actually very happy while keeping the focus on the game it wants to promote. EA revealed Madden 24 to a group of reporters and influencers at a press event last week, opting to move away from the staggered info drops from previous years in favor of a more...
Twice Different, the Australian-based indie game studio behind the 2020 card crawler Ring of Pain, has announced a bizarre horror game featuring our favorite silly old bear, Winnie's Hole.
Introduced out of nowhere at the end of the Blessing Show yesterday, the game is a Steam-exclusive rogue-lite genre blend where you play as a virus traveling through Winnie the Pooh's body. As you spread throughout the bear's rotund vessel like a cancer, you branch out the map and gather the resources you need to capture healthy cells and mutate them to grow as many extra appendages and eyes to transform Winnie into a monstrosity of your liking and adapt his form for survival.
As you progress through the game and infect more animal residents of the...

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 is back from the dead with an offer of refunds and a fresh batch of screenshots.
In a message to fans, publisher Paradox acknowledged it had been some time since the last update on the long-awaited but troubled role-playing game.
The sequel to developer Troika Games' much-loved 2004 cult-classic RPG was announced four years ago and at one point was due out in 2020. But the game was heavily-delayed and its developer, Hardsuit Labs, suffered a number of high-profile exits.
In 2021, Paradox admitted it almost cancelled the project after ditching Hardsuit Labs, delaying the game indefinitely, and cancelling new pre-orders
Now, Paradox has announced it will show more of Bloodlines 2 this September...

The first Diablo 4 player to hit Level 100 in Hardcore mode was left speechless after his character was lost forever following a disconnect.
Souaïb ‘carn’ Hanaf was livestreaming Diablo 4 when the game disconnected. After logging back in, carn discovered his max level Hardcore Barbarian was gone, leaving him no option but to create another character and start all over again.
Diablo 4’s Hardcore mode features permadeath, which means if a character dies it’s gone for good.
Clearly upset and confused, carn wonders whether he has suffered a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack. He then spends some time searching Diablo 4’s menus for a trace of his character, to no avail.
“This is the one thing when I was playing the beta that I...
