Those looking forward to Destiny 2: The Final Shape may need to clear out a their hard drives ahead of its June 4, 2024 release date, as Bungie has shared some hefty install sizes. Revealed in its This Week in Destiny blog post, where Bungie also warned players of spoilers after the expansion was accidentally pushed live early for some players, The Final Shape requires around 150 GB on all platforms. The biggest numbers come for those on PC, however, as players who already have Destiny 2 installed will essentially need double the amount of space available if they want to preload The Final Shape to play the moment it's available. Steam players need an eyewatering 299.70 GB and the Epic Games Store needs 279.66 GB, and while these...
The high-profile video game cheat maker recently ordered to pay Activision millions of dollars in damages in a court ruling has vowed to continue to release cheats for Call of Duty. This week, the United States District Court of the Central District of California granted Activision’s motion for default judgement in the civil case against EngineOwning, which sells cheats for a number of Call of Duty games as well as Counter-Strike, Battlefield, and Titanfall. Activision was awarded $14,465,600 in statutory damages and $292,912 in attorneys’ fees, and the court issued a permanent injunction to enjoin EngineOwning’s “unlawful conduct” and to transfer its domain name, www.EngineOwning.to, to Activision. Despite the ruling, some...
The 21st Century has seen the longest stretches of team domination in the history of Formula 1. The last 14 years has seen drivers from just two teams win the whole shebang. That’s year after year, for nearly a decade and a half. Yes, Formula 1 is foremost an engineering series, and the recipe for winning a World Drivers' Championship essentially begins with “have the quickest car” and ends with “be faster than your teammate.” Yes, there’s a glimmer of promise this year with four different winners in just eight Grands Prix. However, broadly speaking, the predictability of F1 is getting a little old hat. Unfortunately, Codemasters’ F1 series is suffering a parallel predictability problem in F1 24, in that it’s a terrific racing game...
The best June indie games are coming at us at full speed and will not be deterred, not even by the likes of Destiny 2: The Final Shape nor Elden Ring: Shadows of the Erdtree. If we’re all being honest here, June is a scary month to release a game primarily because of those two […] Continue reading...
Thank your own personal deity—possibly Surtr—it's Friday! Old mate was a topical choice because, for 24 hours, the Complete Edition of Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a whopping $178 off. You can thank PlayStation's Days of Play sale for that one, and there's plenty more where that came from below... In retro news, I'm celebrating the 22nd birthday of Super Smash Bros. Melee, a GameCube great that really knocked it out of the park with a Home-Run Bat. Having played the control stick out of the OG on N64 with my mates, I remember being blown away by Melee's increase in free-form movement, responsiveness, character roster, and head nods to other Ninty IPs. I love that this is still lauded in the SSB competitive scene. This Day in Gaming...
At last, an open-world game that measures up – literally. On the one hand, Infinity Nikki is the console-ready follow-up to the Miracle Nikki and Shining Nikki series of dress-up games on mobile from Chinese game publisher Infold. On the other, it takes some influence from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, with ex-Nintendo BOTW director Kentaro Tominaga as its executive producer. And as I discovered from three hours playing a packed new demo on PC, Infinity Nikki blends the best of these two disparate worlds – and tucks a ton of surprises under its sparkly belt. As she digs through her attic in search of an outfit for the ball, titular heroine Nikki is thrown headlong into adventure when she finds an enchanted red and purple...

Capcom has released a brand new Monster Hunter: Wilds trailer, offering a fresh look at the anticipated sequel while introducing several monsters. The trailer shown at Thursday's State of Play stream featured a brand new cinematic look at the game, including a smattering of combat gameplay. We got a look at a number of weapons and their functions in combat, as well, including confirmation that all 14 weapon types are returning from previous games along with new actions. Brand new to the series are the Dalthydon, an herbivorous wyvern with a seasonal migration...
At today's State of Play May 2024 presentation, Sony released a new trailer for the upcoming remaster of Until Dawn and confirmed that the enhanced port for PC and PS5 will be released in Fall 2024. Sony originally revealed in January that it would be porting Supermassive Games' 2015 horror game for PC and PS5. As previously confirmed when the project was announced, the UK studio Ballistic Moon is tasked with porting Until Dawn to PC and PS5. Powered by Unreal Engine 5, Until Dawn's remaster will include improved animations and detail in environments to enhance what was already a cinematic horror experience when it was initially released on PS4. An enhanced version of Until Dawn has been coming for a long time. Though its initial...
Silent Hill 2 Remake is still on the horizon and inching closer by the day, with a brand new trailer today during the PlayStation Showcase, revealing a new trailer and confirmation that it will be released on October 8 for PC and PS5. The new trailer showed off another look at gameplay. We previously learned that the Silent Hill 2 remake will use a third-person over-the-shoulder camera perspective. We also saw glimpses of monsters that appeared in the original Silent Hill 2, most notably Abstract Daddy, which can be seen towards the end of the trailer. Silent Hill 2 Remake was first confirmed in 2022, developed by Bloober Team with Konami's blessing. We've since learned that the story will remain the same based on the original (which...
Marvel Rivals, the upcoming hero shooter from NetEase Games, is officially coming to PlayStation 5. Previously announced for PC, Marvel Rivals is a 6v6 free-to-play PvP game with 19 characters. In addition to the console announcement, a closed PS5 beta will be taking place in July 2024. Announced during State of Play 2024, Marvel Rivals is an anticipated multiplayer game that we've covered extensively here on IGN. It also ran into a bit of criticism when a contract stipulation prevented influencers from criticizing the game. Nevertheless, it's drawn plenty of attention for its promise of ever-changing battlefields and its roster, which includes characters from Spider-Man to Doctor Doom. Marvel Rivals was one of several...
Developer Infold Games appeared during today’s May 2024 State of Play presentation to reveal that Infinity Nikki is coming to PlayStation 5 with a beta test planned for Q3 2024. It’s a video that highlights the bright visuals and its lush fantasy world players will discover when exploring the open-world dress-up sim later this year. It's maybe our best look at the world of Miraland yet, revealing some of the creatures players will interact with along with a variety of activities to enjoy. Infinity Nikki was made with the help of Kentaro Tominaga, a developer best known for working as a designer for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It’s more Disney than Nintendo and promises puzzles, platforming, and, of course, the option to...
Gorgeous open-world RPG Where Winds Meet has reemerged at Sony's State of Play today, and is no longer a PC exclusive. Alongside a new trailer, we learned that Where Winds Meet will also be headed to PS5, though we're still not sure exactly when. In a PlayStation Blog post, we learned a little more about Where Winds Meet, specifically its take on showcasing Chinese martial arts. From the blog: Where Winds Meet is set in the Ten Kingdoms Era during a battle between rival dynasties, where the player takes the role of a swordsman who will influence the conflict in different ways depending on their choices. It's influenced heavily by Wuxia, a Chinese fiction genre where ancient Chinese fighters are depicted with superhuman abilities...
To kick off today's Sony State of Play, Firewalk Studios made an appearance with a new cinematic trailer for its 5v5 first-person shooter Concord, alongside a look at gameplay and yes, a release date: August 23, 2024. The cinematic trailer takes place in Crater City, where a crew of misfits is on a mission: collect a little robot guy referred to as the "Blue Buddy" and get out. Through a very Guardians of the Galaxy-esque conversation, we learn that events have already not gone as planned, and a hot sauce-fueled firefight ends with the protagonists escaping the planet, off to their next adventure. The gameplay turns the cinematic storytelling of the first trailer into multiplayer action, with five-person teams of "freegunners" duking...
Right from the start, Wuthering Waves’ odd mix of swords, guns, and spirits caught my eye, somehow combining disparate ideas into a combat spectacle. This story-driven gacha RPG will have you spinning like a ballerina to dodge attacks before passing the baton to a teammate that slams the enemy with a fish-like dragon. I still have a lot left to play, including digging into its endgame, but so far these flashy abilities have only deepened my appreciation for its Devil May Cry-style combat and parkour-like movement that enables exploration – unfortunately, it's also failed to impress in a few other key areas, including a lackluster story that tempts me to use the skip button. Wuthering Waves is all about action, whether that’s through...

Since its release almost 10 years ago, The Sims 4 has been essentially free of timed content, with expansion packs and free additions being obtainable at any point after release. However, that's changing in a new update that brings a battle pass-style feature to the game's main menu, and fans aren't happy. Today, EA revealed its plan for Events in a blog post, describing each event as a "limited time experience, centered around a fun theme, with free rewards or gameplay that adds new opportunities to your game." Each Event is free and offers 8 rewards over the course of 4 weeks, with new rewards being made available each week. This format requires players to launch the game on at least different 8 days to claim every reward. The...
Redfall's final update, which was announced following Microsoft's closure of developer Arkane Austin, is here, adding a myriad of quality-of-life overhauls to the game, such as an offline mode, DLSS3, and single-player pausing. The details of Redfall Game Update 4 were unveiled in a Bethesda blog post today, including a ranking system called Community Standing, which is among the new features in the game’s Neighborhood system. Community Standing, as the blog post describes, is a rank-based reputation that rewards players with unique permanent buffs upon completing a Safehouse mission, rescuing civilians, and defeating an Underboss. Offline mode, meanwhile, has long been one of the most-requested Redfall features, with it finally...

Developer Arrowhead Studios made its will known to all players today, commemorating the “Enduring Peace” movement with a special video that calls for an end to Meridia’s Terminid Supercolony. The message notes that the planet’s destruction will be “a tragedy” but says that the Terminid invasion leaves Super Earth no choice. The Major Order’s in-game description (captured and shared by @HelldiversAlert on X/Twitter) offers more insight into how the war will progress. “We must seize this opportunity to destroy the Terminid Supercolony. Helldivers all across the planet will deploy with a limited supply of the exotic matter...

XDefiant, which launched on May 21 and has reportedly...
John Romero, the renowned video game designer known for his pioneering work on the likes of Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, and Quake, released a memoir last year that is now getting adapted for the silver screen. As reported by Deadline, two projects are in the works based on Romero's autobiography Doom Guy: Life in First Person. The first is a documentary created by award-winning Canadian filmmaker Rob McCallum, and the second is a scripted drama series about the life and storied career of video gaming's original rock star. Minecraft's highly anticipated Tricky Trials update arrives as version 1.21 on June 13, 2024. Revealed on the Minecraft blog, Mojang confirmed all platforms, meaning PlayStation, Xbox, PC, Nintendo Switch, mobile, and more, would receive the update simultaneously. The update's main addition is the mysterious, massive copper trial chambers which are full of "a slew of new challenges, mobs to do battle with, rewards to claim, and blocks to build with. "Players will find two new mobs, the Breeze and the Bogged alongside loot-filled vaults that can be unlocked with trial keys (and reward every player, not just the one who opens them). These trial chambers have an optional ominous trial feature, which triggers more difficult trials when...
Bandai Namco unveiled a new character trailer for its hotly anticipated 3D fighting game, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero. Much like past themed character trailers, this one centered on the mega-popular shonen series’ smorgasbord of fusion characters. First up is Goku and Vegeta’s rambunctious Saiyan kids, Goten and Trunks. The pair premiered in Dragon Ball Z’s Buu arc, where the pair fused, forming the formidable Gotenks. Unlike most Saiyans, their move set is pretty unorthodox. Key among them is the Super Donut, an ability that turns enemies into a volleyball, and Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack, which, as its name suggests, spews explosive ghost clones from their mouth. Kale and Caulifla, Saiyans from Universe 6, were first introduced...
Bethesda director and executive producer Todd Howard has called once panned Fallout 76 "sneaky popular" now that it's crossed 20 million players. Speaking to Variety, Howard confirmed the 20 million number was passed on May 29, 2024: almost six years after the game was released. "It’s kind of been sneaky popular for a while, but not to this level and it’s just been really great for the for the whole studio,” Howard said. Amazon's Fallout TV show, which arrived in April 2024, was credited with Fallout 76's recent popularity, with Howard saying it's effect is like nothing he's ever seen. "Depending on the Fallout game, you’re looking at a four to six times increase in daily players, which is beyond anything I’ve ever seen in my 30...
A MultiVersus leak has seemingly given fans a glimpse of what characters they can expect in the future, with Aquaman, the Powerpuff Girls, and even characters from anime all featured. Twitter/X user @KrustyandUG found a handful of videos of Rick and Morty's Rick which featured voice lines referencing the currently unannounced characters. Marceline the Vampire Queen from Adventure Time is another character referenced in these voice lines, where Rock says things like: "Well, well, well if it isn't Marceline the Emo Queen." This character was teased in the MultiVersus launch trailer while Aquaman and the Powerpuff Girls have been leaked previously. Rick also references an "anime crossover", however, which has added more fuel to the...
It turns out Lords of the Fallen's final 1.5 update released in April 2024 wasn't the final update at all as developer Hexworks has released the Clash of Champions downloadable content which adds a boss rush mode to the game. As reported by Gematsu, the surprise release doesn't include just one version of the boss rush mode but two. Players can choose to either fight through the Echoes of Battle or Crucible modes, with the former offering a chance to relive boss encounters and the latter presenting a unique new challenging of increasing difficulty. "The update features two previously unannounced boss rush modes for the dark fantasy action RPG," publisher CI Games said. "Players can now replay singular boss battles with previously...
Hogwarts Legacy developer Avalanche Software has announced its summer update brings photo mode, a Hogsmeade quest, and more to the game on June 6. Those looking forward to Destiny 2: The Final Shape's launch on June 4, 2024 should perhaps stay off the internet for a few days as a mishap at PlayStation-owned Bungie saw the entire expansion release early and spoilers spread like wildfire. As reported by Eurogamer, dozens of players took to social media to share their shock and horror after discovering the highly anticipated expansion, set to be the grand finale in Destiny 2's so far 10 year saga, was available to play on May 29 after server maintenance. Those who chose to stream Destiny 2 instead of play a downloaded version, like Cupcake_0f_Doom on Reddit, were loaded straight into the new content. I tried loading it up tonight and at first I thought cross save was bugged and...
