Warner Bros. Games has officially acquired Player First Games, adding the developer behind MultiVersus to its profile. In an official release sent to IGN, Warner Bros. confirmed that co-founder Tony Huynh and Chris White will retain leadership of the studio, which has led development of the popular Smash Bros-like brawler. Multiversus officially launched in May following early access and open beta releases throughout 2022 and 2023. "Our team is excited to join the Warner Bros. Games family, and we feel that this will be great for MultiVersus overall,” Huynh said in a release. “We are working to make the MultiVersus game experience the best it can be and having our development team integrated with the publisher is optimum for the...
Soulframe, an over-the-shoulder fantasy MMO, is the latest game from Warframe developer Digital Extremes. With slick action, otherworldly customization options, and thick lore, Soulframe is undeniably a Warframe sister project, but it's also something completely different. Where the 2013 sci-fi game leans into industrial settings and breakneck action, Soulframe takes a more methodical approach with an emphasis on nature, ancestry, and slower combat. IGN attended a press presentation ahead of TennoCon and the inaugural Soulframe dev stream to get a better look at the studio’s plans. During an open Q&A session, the team explained that Soulframe’s starting island is about twice as big as Warframe’s first open-world area, The Plains of...
I’ll admit that I generally prefer to have direct control in racing games, but the F1 Manager series has made me equally excited to work behind the scenes. Watching a risky overtake pay off from the pit wall can be similarly thrilling to burning that rubber yourself, and a focus on team development and overall strategy between races can be refreshing. While F1 Manager 2024 is your typical annual update in many respects, content to make incremental improvements over massive changes, several of those tweaks leave developer Frontier's latest management sim more compelling than ever. This year's biggest addition is the new 'Create a Team' feature, which offers a pleasantly surprising range of customization options. For example, different...
At EVO 2024, Capcom revealed a first look at Fatal Fury's Terry Bogard in Street Fighter 6. Terry was previously revealed as the second DLC fighter of Street Fighter 6's Year 2 and he will be available in World Tour, Battle Hub, and Fighting Ground when he arrives in autumn 2024. He is the next fighter following M. Bison and will be released before Fatal Fury's Elena in spring 2025 and Mai Shiranui in winter 2025. Terry has been the face of Fatal Fury since its first entry back in 1991 and has already been a guest character in games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Fighting EX Layer, and the Capcom vs. SNK series. To learn more about Terry Bogard and why this is such an important moment for the Street Fighter franchise, be sure to...
Welcome back to my usual daily deals programming. Whereas a bunch of sites hit-and-quit-it on that opening Amazon Prime Day, I camped on the promotion for the full five days. Hopefully, you scored a bargain from that. As for today, I'm seeing a bunch of new deals for those of you who (somehow) still have money left in their account, so let's get you hooked up! In retro news, I'm celebrating absolutely nothing. Apparently, no games of note in the last 40 years were released on this day. Kind of impressive in a way. Games publishers have just come together as one to pick today as the dead-est, most useless launch day in the gaming calendar. So there you go. This Day in Gaming Aussie birthdays for notable games. ....? Table of...
Tekken 8 will finally be getting Heihachi Mishima as he will be joining the roster in Fall 2024 as the third DLC character. The big news was announced at EVO 2024 and it's a welcome announcement as fans have been waiting for the King of the Iron Fist since he wasn't part of the roster at launch. It made sense at the time as he met his end during Tekken 7's story, but he's been such a mainstay that fans wanted him back in some form. We had the chance to speak to Tekken's Katsuhiro Harada and Kohei Ikeda about Heihachi's return, and they shared the thought process about bringing him back from the dead. "Tekken 7 really focused on the story arc between Heihachi and his son, Kazuya, and so, we really wanted to show that kind of final...

Guilty Gear Strive is set to add Lucy from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners to its roster in Season Pass 4 in 2025, which will mark the first time a guest character will be added to the series. As spotted by Wario64, the announcement appears to have leaked ahead of its official reveal at EVO alongside the news that Season Pass 4 will arrive on July 22, 2024. We didn't get a good look at Lucy in the game as she is the farthest one away of the new characters, but we did learn she will be joined by two returning characters and a brand new one. The first fighter will be the Queen of Vialattea, Queen Dizzy, who first appeared in Guilty Gear X and will arrive in October. Venom, who also first appeared in Guilty Gear X, will join the roster in...
I’m a huge sucker for Collector’s Editions of games. I know they’re expensive but there’s something jubilant about opening a massive box for a game and pulling out artbooks and soundtracks and gorgeous steelbook cases that I’ll throw out immediately because I have no more shelf space left. Into the book of loose Blu-ray discs you go! Maybe I Iike Collector’s Editions so much because they remind me of old-school computer game boxes that always came in weird shapes and always included more documentation than necessary. They were goofy and grandiose. They were treasure chests. But not every video game Collector’s Edition can be as good as, say, Cyberpunk 2077. While you could argue that a statue of V on a motorcycle is embarrassing (and...
MultiVersus Season 2: Back in Time will see the addition of Samurai Jack and Beetlejuice and it will arrive on July 23, which is the same time the game will be getting its long-awaited Ranked Mode. Samurai Jack will be available at the launch of Season 2 on July 23, and Beetlejuice will arrive sometime before Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is released in theaters on September 6 in North America and September 4 internationally. You can check out a glimpse of Samurai Jack's gameplay below, and Warner Bros. Games revealed he will be a Bruiser class character who will "utilize his mystical katana blade, agile footwork, and quick reflexes to send opponents flying off the map." The clip also shows off the Righteous Warrior Jack character variant...

Bethesda Game Studios is officially the first Microsoft game developer to full unionize under the Communication Workers of America (CWA), forming a "wall-to-wall" union of developers including artists, engineers, programmers and designers. Microsoft has recognized the union. The union was confirmed after 241 developers either signed a union authorization card or indicated that they wanted unionization via an online portal. It follows Bethesda Games Studios Montreal's unionization in late June and the unionization of roughly 300 quality assurance workers within Zenimax, which is Bethesda's parent company. "We, a majority of developers at Bethesda Game Studios Dallas, Rockville, and Austin, are ecstatic to announce the formation of...
Overwatch 2’s 41st hero, Juno, is playable this weekend for a limited time, and fans have already unearthed a surprising bit of lore about the purple-haired space cadet healer and Mei. Overwatch is filled with voice lines that flesh out lore from its myriad of maps as well as relationships between heroes and villains. It’s just not every character’s death throw voice line would reveal a possible familial tie. Apparently, eliminating Mei as Juno triggers a voice-over exchange in which the Martian hero says, “Sorry, Auntie!” in response to Mei’s dying gasp. This tidbit of gameplay lore is significant not only in that it might confirm the hero shooter’s fourth familial tie among its heroes, but it also seems to debunk a key fan theory...
Starry Studio and NetEase Games’ Once Human has reached a major player milestone and is celebrating by teasing its first big update. The free-to-play open-world survival shooter managed to peak at more than 230,000 players on Steam since its launch earlier this month. It also appeared among the top five of the storefront’s Most Played list of games and is one of its Top Sellers. As the team at Starry enjoys its newfound successes, it’s looking to the horizon with an update that’s due out in September. Once Human players can look forward to a new PvP gameplay scenario that the team says features confrontations between the Mayflies and Rosetta. A PvE scenario is on the way as well, promising a new northern mountain region, monsters...

At the very heart of Star Wars Outlaws is the fantasy that all sci-fi fans dream of: the ability to adventure across the stars. Five different moons and planets await you, from Rise of Skywalker’s chilly Kijimi to the classic deserts of Tatooine. But while fans will recognise many of Outlaws’ locations, there’s one that they definitely won’t: Toshara. A brand new moon crafted especially for Star Wars Outlaws by the development team at Massive Entertainment, Toshara is inspired by the East African savannah. But while it has uniquely beautiful landscapes, it is – aptly for a game called ‘Star Wars Outlaws’ – a criminal hive. “It's run by a corrupt imperial governor,” says Navid Khavari, Outlaws’ narrative director. “And while the...
CD Projekt Red scrapped a reputation system during development of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt but one fan has modded it back in. Nexus Mods user FreakVIp created the Reputation System mod for The Witcher 3, which "restores the reputation concept that was cut by CDPR from the game." While the game is already full of hard choices and butterfly effect consequences, this mod will see NPCs respond to Geralt in different regions depending on his behavior. Completing witcher contracts, winning horse races, clearing monsters from abandoned villages, and more will all reward Geralt with Reputation Points, while stealing and attacking guards will see Geralt lose points. Actions in quests also affect reputation. Five ranks of reputation exist...
Companies across the world are suffering an IT outage that affects Windows operating systems. Flights have been canceled, banking halted, and commerce, healthcare, and travel delayed amid one of the most significant global IT outages ever. TV studios were even forced to pause broadcasting, The outage has to do with a “defect” in Cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike’s software, which has had the knock-on effect of causing the dreaded 'Blue Screen of Death' to appear on monitors across the globe. "This is not a security incident or cyberattack,” Crowdstrike said. “The issue has been identified, isolated and a fix has been deployed.” However, it will take some time before the outage is resolved, causing chaos today, July 19, 2024...

Valve has released Team Fortress 2’s big Summer 2024 update, leaving fans hopeful that it builds upon recent efforts to combat the game’s bot problem. The Team Fortress 2 community came together in June in an attempt to brute-force Valve into fixing a bot problem that had plagued the game for years. Disgruntled players of the near 17-year-old hero shooter, which remains one of the most-played games on Steam, caused Team Fortress 2’s Steam user review rating to plummet to ‘mostly negative,’ with pretty much all the comments about bots. Valve released a banwave that appeared to stamp out Team Fortress 2’s bot problem, and published a no-nonsense FAQ outlining its tough stance on the matter. Recent Steam reviews recovered to ‘mixed’...
Mortal Kombat developer NetherRealm has suffered a significant round of layoffs and has signaled the closure of one of its high-profile mobile games. As spotted by users on ResetEra, NetherRealm developers took to LinkedIn to announce they had been laid off as part of what looks like the gutting of the company’s mobile team. One affected member of staff said NetherRealm’s entire mobile team was shut down. This team operated live services on multiple titles, including Mortal Kombat Mobile, Injustice 2, and Mortal Kombat Onslaught. The X/Twitter page for Mortal Kombat: Onslaught announced plans to shut the game down in October 2024, just a year after launch. “It has been an honor creating this game for our Kommunity, and we...

God killing has become a staple in games starring Kratos, Bayonetta, Terra Branford, and countless other characters. With action-RPG soulslike Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn, a new pair of god killers by the names of Nor and Enki joins their ranks. With a familiar tale about being wronged by the various gods of this world and becoming consumed by revenge, it never quite manages to reach the peaks of its peers, borrowing lots of elements from other genres without standing out in any of them. But while that keeps it from true greatness, Flintlock still continuously found ways to entertain me with flashy combat and swift movement across my 26-hour near-completionist run. I was late to join the fan club that formed around developer A44’s...
It doesn’t take all that much to get me to dive back into Blizzard’s stellar ARPG, Diablo 4, which has had a fantastic run of seasonal content and updates in the year since it made its devilish debut. But after an extensive hands-on with its upcoming character class, the Spiritborn, I might be kissing my free time goodbye altogether. This jack of all trades impressively mixes up the Diablo ecosystem with its most customizable and varied class yet, opens up a whole new unexplored aspect of Diablo lore, and most importantly, lets you summon a giant spectral gorilla to Hulk-smash demons into pink giblets. By the end of my time exploring Vessel of Hatred’s spooky jungles and dark dungeons, I was ready to forsake my roguish ways and declare...
Blizzard has officially revealed Overwatch 2’s newest support hero, Juno. She’ll be available to play for a limited time from July 19 through July 21. Juno, then known as Space Ranger, was first teased at Blizzcon 2023 alongside Venture. At the time, all players could gleam about Juno’s abilities was that she was armed with a blaster and Death Stranding-esque shoulder attachments to her space suit. Thanks to her gameplay trailer, we know they aren’t just for show. In fact, they can target heal her allies, and attack her enemies. Here’s Blizzard’s official breakdown of her abilities: "Juno is equipped with Pulsar Torpedoes that can lock onto multiple targets. Her Glide Boost ability allows her to swiftly maneuver the battlefield to...
Originally launched last August, Wayfinder was a live service game with seasonal updates, regular new characters and the vast array of microtransactions you would expect from a Free-to-Play game. Whilst fun, however, it suffered many of the trappings most new F2P games suffer, including concerns around its monetisation and the typical launch server issues. This […] Continue reading...
IGN can reveal new gameplay footage for Stormind Games and Saber Interactive's upcoming horror game A Quite Place: The Road Ahead. In the new footage you can view below, we can view roughly 10 minutes of new gameplay footage. As we saw in the previous two trailers and those familiar with the horror movie franchise, it is based on the fact that A Quite Place: The Road Ahead emphasizes moving in silence to avoid being killed by a hostile alien creature. Even the smallest sounds, like a rat scurrying and kicking an empty can, will alter nearby enemies. Based on the gameplay footage, this is an early section of the game. The start of the footage reveals that it has been 119 days since the world went quiet. Towards the end of the footage...
When Ian Proulx and his colleagues at 1047 fully released Splitgate in 2021, his expectations for the “Halo with Portals” multiplayer shooter were fully in check. He expected it to do well enough over time, and was hoping for slow and steady growth. At the time, 1047 consisted of less than 20 individuals, and only four engineers. “But it was like, nope, this is your moment now, everything's on fire,” Proulx says. Splitgate blew up far beyond what Proulx ever expected or what their small indie team were ready to handle. It peaked, he says, at around two million daily active users, and the team spent the next several months in “fire fighting mode” trying to keep the game stable amid the surge of interest. Fortunately for Proulx and...
Nexon has released another big patch for The First Descendant and in the process made some important changes to the game. The headline here is a change to the icons that were found to be similar to those in rival looter shooter Destiny 2. Nexon had confirmed plans to change these icons in response, and with the release of patch 1.0.3 across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, it’s done just that. “The First Descendant has been developed with deep affection and respect for various looter shooters, and we take feedback regarding other similar games very seriously,” Nexon insisted in the update 1.0.3 patch notes, below. “Through this hotfix, we are trying to reflect the unique identity of The First Descendant. We will continue to improve the...
