Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster will be released in roughly a month, and as more news trickles in, it has been discovered that the upcoming remaster has removed the ability for players to take an "erotic" photo. As noted in a new report from Famitsu (spotted by Eurogamer), Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster's photography mini-game has removed the "Erotica" genre from photos taken by the player. In the original game and its subsequent 2016 re-release, there were 6 types of photos depending on what Frank photographs. A photograph with a specific photo genre would award players with an additional Prestige Point (PP) bonus for the picture. The Erotica genre specifically was available when players took pictures of certain angles of a female human or...
With Call of Duty, one of Microsoft's most valuable gaming IPs, finally hitting Game Pass, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick expects the popular first-person shooter to boost subscriber numbers for the service "for at least a period of time." Speaking with IGN's sister site, GamesIndustry.biz, Zelnick told the publication that he believes including Call of Duty on Game Pass will push consumers to subscribe to the service, at least for some time. "I think that offering a frontline title with a premium price in a subscription service, day and date, will push consumers to that subscription service for at least a period of time," Zelnick explained to GamesIndustry.biz. Though Zelnick explained that Microsoft's decision "won't affect...

Warhammer über-nerd Matt has finally played a decent chunk of the upcoming third-person shooter Space Marine 2, and from what he's played it's far exceeded his expectations. Jesse has been sinking his time into another Warhammer 40K game, Speed Freeks , and, well... you'll just have to listen to this week's IGN UK Podcast to find out what he thinks. He also does way too much self-promotion, but thankfully keeps his potty mouth relatively clean for once. The year is 18… something. Not that years matter anymore. Not since the End. What’s left of Napoleonic Europe is ravaged by the Hunger; people twisted by the Bacterium disease into foul, zombie-like creatures. All anyone can do in these plagued lands is survive. And complete quests. And find amazing loot. And escape to live another day. That’s life in Hunger, the next game from the developers behind Hell Let Loose. Launching in early access on PC in 2025, Hunger is a grimdark take on the extraction shooter. If you’ve seen the debut trailer we exclusively revealed recently, you may have already drawn parallels between it and Hunt: Showdown – both share a filthy, earthy aesthetic that ground their fantastical ideas in historic reality...
PlayStation has revealed the PC requirements for the highly anticipated God of War Ragnarok ahead of its September 19 release date. Minimum settings, high settings, performance settings, and ultra settings were also revealed. Running God of War: Ragnarok at the bare minimum (1080p resolution and 30 frames per second on average) requires an Nvidia GTX 1060 or AMD RX 5500 XT equivalent GPU and an Intel i5-4670k or AMD Ryzen 3 1200 equivalent...
Control 2 is now in the "production readiness stage" at Alan Wake developer Remedy Entertainment, while the Control multiplayer spin-off and Max Payne 1 & 2 remake have entered full production. Remedy revealed the progress in its latest financial earnings report, confirming Control 2 has "passed the proof of concept stage and has progressed to the production readiness stage." No further timeline was shared, but Max Payne 1 & 2 has now entered full production ten months after it reached the same "production readiness stage,". This would indicate Control 2 will enter full production around June 2025. Max Payne 1 & 2 reaching this stage means Remedy is now actively working on it, though no release window was shared. The game will...
DOOM Eternal is finally getting official mod support some four years after its initial release, id Software announced during today's QuakeCon 2024 livestream. According to a post on Bethesda's Slayers Club blog, DOOM Eternal Update 6.66 Rev 3 adds the ability to opt into mod support via Steam's beta branch. Support for the Microsoft Store version will be added "soon," with no mention of a console version. Those who opt into the beta branch will be able to create and publish original mods via the idStudio Beta program, which you can see above. You can find idStudio tutorials as well as an installation guide right here. The addition of mods should add some more life to DOOM Eternal, which continues to enjoy a robust post-launch...
Ever since EA revealed that it was dropping the FIFA license, rumors have abounded that arch-rival 2K Sports is planning to pick up the mantle and make its own soccer sim. But in today's earnings call, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said that any potential competitor to EA Sports FC would face numerous complications. "I would just note with regards to the FIFA license, it does not bring along with it rights; it doesn’t come along with players, teams, or leagues," Zelnick said. "So it’s not as simple, for example, as negotiating with the NFL, or the NBA, or MLB, where at most you have to negotiate with a league and a player’s association. So anyone who would want to compete in the straight ahead sim environment for soccer… you wouldn’t...
Bungie has stepped in to clarify that its work on Destiny will continue with another “multi-year journey" following widespread studio layoffs last week, asking fans to remain patient in the meantime. In new posts published on X/Twitter, Bungie acknowledged that the recent layoffs at the studio has resulted in a degress of uncertainty around its future. Despite this, Bungie says it will do its best to maintain transparency and communication as it remains committed to the Destiny universe. “We'll be talking with you all about the future of Destiny and plans for our next multi-year journey soon,” Bungie said. “Once we plant a flag for the date, we'll let you all know.” It’s currently unclear how or when Bungie will launch into the...
Video game voice actors continue to strike in an effort to push gaming companies toward a deal on AI protections for all actors. But while CEOs at major publishers like EA and Take-Two don't think the strike will have a short-term business impact, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledges that a "long-term strike wouldn't be good for anyone." Speaking to IGN today ahead of the company's Q1 earnings, Zelnick responded to a question about whether or not the strike would impact the company's business broadly. Like EA CEO Andrew Wilson, he doesn't expect an immediate impact to the business. That's to be expected, given that technically games in production before August 25, 2023 are not officially struck work. While actors can still opt to...
Capcom has shared a new gameplay deep dive into Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, confirming that players can turn off the revamped HUD, confirming there will be an indicator for item durability, and more. In a new video uploaded onto YouTube, Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster director Ryosuke Murai and producer Kei Morimoto play through roughly 11 minutes of Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. The gameplay shown in early segments of the duo shows off some familiar gameplay mechanics, along with some new changes exclusive to the upcoming remaster. Among the biggest changes the duo revealed is that players can turn off the revamped heads-up display (HUD) available in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. "[T] here's an option to make it disappear after a...
Elden Ring developer FromSoftware has released a surprise hotfix for the game bringing it to version 1.13.2. Publisher Bandai Namco released the patch notes which, while not as long as previous updates released for Elden Ring and its Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, look to a handful of pesky bugs. This includes a bug which caused the Death status ailment from the Death Flare skill to be applied to the Deadly Poison Spray skill, a bug that blocked multiplayer in some areas of Scadu Atlus, and more. The full patch notes are available below. Shadow of the Erdtree, which arrived June 21, 2024, features bosses with which FromSoftware "really pushed the envelope" on what the player can withstand, director Hidetaka Miyazaki said ahead of...
QuakeCon 2024 officially starts today, and ahead of the convention, which typically features major news and announcements from various ZeniMax Media IPs, a new listing reveals that among the announcements incoming will be enhanced remasters of the first two Doom games. In a new Steam listing (spotted by X/Twitter user @Wario64), DOOM + DOOM 2 is a new compilation that will provide definitive, newly enhanced versions of the first two DOOM games. You can see the official trailer below. Some new enhancements coming to DOOM + DOOM 2...
Although Dead by Daylight's most highly-requested mode was supposed to conclude today, developer Behaviour Interactive announced today that it was extending the trial period for 2v8 mode by two weeks. In a new post on X/Twitter, Behaviour Interactive announced today that the initial run for 2v8 mode would now conclude on Thursday, August 15, at 8 am PT / 11 am ET. More interestingly, Behaviour Interactive disclosed the reason for extending the 2v8 trial run was due to the high demand from the community, in addition to revealing that 2v8 accounted for over 40% of all matches played in Dead by Daylight since its debut late last month, even though 2v8 had long queue times. "We've been blown away by your reaction to 2v8 these past two...
Activision has revealed a first look at gameplay for the Zombies mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. The two minute trailer, below, showcases the return of a round based Zombies mode and the Terminus map, one of two available at launch in Black Ops 6. It also highlighted the classic Zombies blend of spooky survival and absolutely bizarre monsters and weapons. Terminus was built using the philosophy of "anywhere you can see, you can go," and players may encounter some spookier beasties when they leave the prison starting area. The trailer showed off some of these, such as creepy giant spiders and a horrific clump of different zombies stuck together. You can read about all these and more in IGN's preview of Black Ops 6's Zombies mode...
Indie sensation Vampire Survivors is finally coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on August 29, 2024. Developer Poncle announced the release date in an admittedly ridiculous trailer, below, promising 500,000 texture mapped garlic balls and at least 13.5 hours of gameplay, all for the price of a peri peri chicken wrap. Vampire Survivors is a fast paced and over the top gothic horror game with rogue-lite elements, where your choices can allow you to quickly snowball against the hundreds of monsters that get thrown at you. It became one of the biggest surprise hits of the last few years as what launched as a humble indie game on Steam blew up in popularity and snowballed itself. Poncle soon added layers of new content to the...
First things first: Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s Zombies is a return to the fan favorite round-based co-op mode of 1-4 players surviving wave after wave of zombies that escalates in challenge and difficulty each round. The story picks up after the events of 2020’s Black Ops Cold War and continues the Dark Aether storyline with a cast featuring the returning Weaver, Grey, and Carver – who have been imprisoned – along with the new character of Maya as playable in Zombies. Each has their own storylines. Also returning is former villain William Peck, who acts as your guide, along with Oskar Strauss and Raptor One in support roles. What I can say is that I enjoyed my time playing Zombies. Treyarch seems to have established a strong balance of...
Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead Game Studios is facing fresh backlash from the community after nerfing fire damage weapons days before releasing its pyromaniac-themed premium warbond, Freedom’s Flame. The balance changes introduced by this week’s Escalation of Freedom update include a number of tweaks to the game’s fire damage system designed to make flame-spewing weapons behave “more realistically." Some frustrated community members have taken to social media to complain the update has dramatically nerfed fire-based weapons such as the flamethrower, once considered a potent antidote to armored terminids chargers. Helldivers 2’s Steam page has seen more than 2,000 negative reviews push its recent review score from ‘mostly...
Upcoming medieval time travelling action strategy game Kingmakers is getting a live action film from the studio behind myriad upcoming video game adaptations such as the Tomb Raider animated series and Dredge film. Media company Story Kitchen has announced a collaboration with Kingmakers developer Redemption Road Games and publisher TinyBuild to bring the highly anticipated game to the big screen, asking the question: "What if Braveheart had time travel?" The film doesn't have a release date yet, though neither does Kingmakers itself beyond a vague 2024. "Go back in time to a war-torn medieval era with a vast arsenal of modern weapons, change the course of history, and save the future in this action/strategy sandbox," reads the...
Arkane Studios co-founder Raphaël Colantonio has announced his next game, being developed at WolfEye Studios, is a first person action role-playing game which will make fans of Dishonored and Prey "feel at home." The currently unnamed game will be "an ambitious new IP built upon the DNA of earlier Arkane games to deliver a rich and detailed world, freedom of how to play, and a deep RPG experience." WolfEye studios, led by Dishonored co-creator and Prey director Colantonio, is primarily made up of former staff from Arkane Lyon and Arkane Austin, the latter of which Xbox shut down in May 2024. Three screenshots from the game were shared too, below, showing a retro sci-fi aesthetic very much familiar to fans of the aforementioned Arkane...
Batman. Justice League. Harry Potter. Looney Tunes. Game of Thrones. The list of intellectual property owned by Warner Bros. Discovery is massive, and an awful lot of it seems ripe for being turned into a video game. If you're thinking WB's been a little slow to leverage that library, it sounds like the company's leadership agrees, and is looking not just to make more of its own games, but to license out some of its biggest franchises to other game studios in the future. Today on the Warner Bros. Discovery Q2 earnings, call CEO David Zaslav and president of global streaming and games JB Perrette responded to a question about the "strategic value" of games to Warner Bros. given recent "uneven performance". The company had just reported...
I should not be playing Space Marine 2 like this. Even the game warned me not to. Regardless, here I slog, a puny level 1 Aspirant in a Ruthless difficulty op recommended for level 15 Angels of Death. Why am I here? For the glory of the God-Emperor. To feel the full grimdark direness of 40K. And because I’m a bloody idiot. Through sheer grit, spit, and spite, I’ve clutch-killed a path through a swarm of Tyranids to my main objective. I’m caked in mud and blood. I’m out of medicae and depleted of lives, so my two beloved AI chapter brothers cannot resuscitate me. When these four rounds in my sidearm go, we’ll be down to pistol whips and harsh language. As I crest the last hill and prepare to cry victoriam, the shout dies upon my...
Ready at Dawn, a venerable game studio that once worked on God War and Daxter among other projects, is closing its doors. Android Central reports that Meta is shuttering the studio effective immediately, with employees being encouraged to apply for other positions within Oculus Studios. The closure follows Meta's decision to discontinue Echo VR in 2023, which coincided with major layoffs impacting a third of the studio. Oculus Studios had previously acquired Ready at Dawn, which had found success with the Lone Echo series, to develop VR games for its platforms. "As many have already heard, this morning Ready At Dawn Studios is closing its doors. I've been at RAD for over 10 years and I am incredibly sad to see this wonderful team...
Warner Bros. Discovery reported today that its game revenue suffered a major drop this quarter from the same period last year, largely due to weak performance of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Games revenue, under the WB Games division, dropped 41% year-over-year. Though Suicide Squad's struggles were the main culprit, it was admittedly up against stiff competition: last year's comparable included strong sales of Hogwarts Legacy, which launched in February of 2023 and continued to do exceedingly well throughout the year that followed. It sold 22 million copies in 2023 alone, and has since reached 24 million. Suicide Squad, meanwhile, was panned by critics and called "disappointing" by WB Discovery boss David Zaslav last...
Jumping headfirst into Mecha BREAK’s chaotic, frenzied combat is overwhelming at first. That’s partially because its presentation is dizzyingly stylish, with flashing neon beams and blisteringly fast mecha screaming through the sky as you and your teammates do your best to capture a king-of-the-hill-like objective or push a payload. The chaos amps up the energy and tension of each skirmish, and certain bots (like my favorite: the Falcon) have additional abilities to help kick up the speed of a match even further. Mecha Break showed lots of promise during my last hands-on preview in January, and now, after a few more hours of hands-on time with the multiplayer mech shooter in its open beta, I’ve had the opportunity to experiment with...
It’s been one year since Baldur’s Gate 3 launched, and now, developer Larian Studios has revealed how players chose to navigate their journey through its Dungeons & Dragons video game. The studio unveiled a smorgasbord of stats in a lengthy X/Twitter thread. While it includes interesting data related to Baldur’s Gate 3’s soul-crushing permadeath Honour Mode and which characters fans favored over others, it also reveals that 1.9 million players were, at one point or another, turned into a wheel of cheese. Another crucial stat update reveals that while everyone’s favorite dog, Scratch, was pet 120 million times, The Owlbear Cub and His Majesty the cat received only 41 million and 141,660 pet attempts, respectively. What matters most...
