Civilization 7 is out, and while the game has launched to a ‘mixed’ user review rating on Steam, the boss of parent company Take-Two believes hardcore fans of the series will eventually come to love it.
Firaxis’ 4X strategy sequel is currently available to those who pay more for advanced access, typically more hardcore fans of Civilization. And they’re certainly letting their voices be known in Steam user reviews, highlighting issues with the user interface, a lack of map variety, and a feeling that the game has launched without a number of features fans have come to expect.
Firaxis has responded to this feedback, promising improvements to the UI, the addition of teams to multiplayer games so people can play co-operatively, and a...

Tokyo Xtreme Racer is a PlayStation 2 game. Now, years of YouTube comments from cynical types who were likely still jostling around inside an ovary at the dawn of the millennium may have taught you that ‘PS2’ is a pejorative – a one-size-fits-all put-down wielded against anything that doesn’t melt the multiprocessors off a graphics card. But it doesn't have to be. The PS2 was an incredible console, brimming with great, approachable games that achieved exactly what they set out to do, were hopelessly addictive, and completely unburdened by microtransactions and live-service malarkey. This succinctly describes Genki’s 2025 Tokyo Xtreme Racer reboot, which recently arrived in early access on Steam: a fantastically moreish blast from the...
Hasbro has announced it will work to bring Magic: The Gathering to screens everywhere.
The Hollywood Reporter says Hasbro is working with Legendary Entertainment to create a shared Magic: The Gathering universe that will include both movies and TV shows, with the movie the first priority.
“We pride ourselves on being thoughtful caretakers of singular, beloved IP, and no property better fits that description than Magic: The Gathering,” says Legendary’s chairman of worldwide production. The studio is behind such films as Dune and the western Godzilla movies like Godzilla vs Kong, and Detective Pikachu.
While it’s not totally clear, based on the report it sounds like the movie and TV adaptations at Legendary are going to be unrelated...
Assassin's Creed Shadows is getting a prequel manga but not until after the game comes out, Ubisoft has announced.
The company revealed on X/Twitter that, while the prequel manga will arrive in Japan on the game's release date of March 20, it won't arrive elsewhere until "later."
"Discover the official prequel of the game," Ubisoft said. "Follow the story a young Assassin apprentice as she fights against the growing presence of the Templars order in Japan."
This assassin is seemingly not protagonist Naoe, however, as she's depicted in the opening of Assassin's Creed Shadows as not being aware of the era spanning battle between Assassins and Templars. It could therefore be her mother or a teacher or someone else entirely.
It will...

Radiangames has announced Speed Demons 2, the side-scrolling highway racer with a visual aesthetic – not to mention high-speed gameplay – that might remind you a bit of the beloved arcade racing series Burnout. It's in development for PC after the original was a mobile game, and the sequel is due out later this year.
The developer says, "The controls are focused on movement, not steering. You'll still have gas, brake, and turbo (or ability) buttons, but you move the analog stick (or mouse) up and down to control your vehicle's direction." The team adds, "It sounds unusual, but it's immediately intuitive once you start playing."
Speed Demons 2 has ten game modes, including the very Burnout Road Rage mode-sounding Pursuit, Takedown...
Resident Evil Re:Verse, the multiplayer spin-off of the beloved horror franchise, is shutting down this June after less than three years on the market.
Capcom announced the shutdown in a blog post despite also saying the game had "exceeded expectation," saying it has served its "celebratory purpose admirably" but is no longer needed as it has "reached a new turning point for the series."
Resident Evil Re:Verse and all its downloadable content will be removed from sale on March 3 but those with the game already downloaded will be able to access it until June 29. "You will no longer be able to play Resident Evil Re: Verse once service has officially ended," Capcom said.
The game will go down on all platforms, meaning PlayStation 4 and...
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the remake of the original Metal Gear Solid 3, will release on August 28, 2025, according to what appears to be a PlayStation Store leak.
Konami’s remake of the PlayStation 2 stealth-action title has finally been updated from an obviously defunct 2024 release window, seemingly out of nowhere, with even a new trailer having leaked via the PlayStation App version of the store.
An Ape Escape collaboration has also been teased, which was followed by a message that reads “And More” which seemingly alludes to further crossovers coming to the game.
This first one looks like a reference to the original Metal Gear Solid 3, which featured a monkey minigame in which Snake would attempt to neutralize the...
Obsidian Entertainment's upcoming role-playing game Avowed can hit 60 frames per second on Xbox Series X.
Though she offered no further insight, game director Carrie Patel told MinnMax that "you can get up to [60fps]" on Microsoft's more powerful console, though the Xbox Series S version will be limited to the 30fps as previously confirmed.
It's still unclear if Avowed will include a performance mode and graphics mode as has become standard, the former of which generally means 60fps with lower visuals while the latter generally means 30fps with improved visuals, or if the default setting hits 60fps on Xbox Series X naturally.
Avowed arrives February 13 for those willing to spend at least $89.99, though fans only willing to spend...
Monster Hunter Wilds is just a few weeks away, and Capcom has released a PC benchmark for players to see if their system is up to snuff. Alongside that, the PC system requirements have been officially lowered.
As announced during yesterday's Capcom Spotlight, the PC benchmark for Monster Hunter Wilds is live on Steam right now. The tool will need to compile some shaders once it's loaded up, but otherwise it's fairly easy to run and see where your computer lands. It's a good idea to check, especially if you're curious about how the updated system requirements might affect your performance.
Previously, the system requirements for hitting 1080p and 60 frames per second (with Frame Generation enabled) called for an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070...
Ever since its successful 2022 reinvention, 2K’s popular WWE series has continually made a host of iterative improvements in an attempt to not only build upon its winning formula but also justify its annual releases. WWE 2K25 certainly promises a new batch of iterations, including a brand new, online interactive world called The Island, a revamp of its story, general manager and Universe mode, a new hardcore match type called Bloodline Rules, and several more. However, I can’t say if all these new additions will elevate 2K25 above its predecessor because, unfortunately, I didn’t get to sample any of them at a recent preview event.
Instead of sampling this year’s most significant alterations, my time with 2K25 was largely focused on...
Microsoft is continuing its string of PlayStation ports by bringing Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition and Age of Mythology: Retold to PS5 players in only a few months.
Series developer World’s Edge revealed PlayStation versions of its strategy hits in a blog post on its website, laying out plans to enter new territory with release date information. It means console ports for the classic Xbox Game Studios titles, which will feature content parity and crossplay across all platforms, are just around the corner.
“Playing across all platforms is a game-changer for our franchise, and it’s all about bringing our community together,” World’s Edge explained in its post. “This isn’t just about convenience — it’s about growing and...
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 looks like a massive hit, with one million copies sold just a day after launch.
Warhorse Studios' medieval Europe action RPG sequel launched on February 4 across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, and soon shot to the upper echelons of Steam’s most-played games list.
On Valve’s platform, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 hit a peak of 159,351 concurrents, a number that will surely grow as it heads into its first weekend on sale. For context, the first Kingdom Come: Deliverance hit a peak Steam concurrent player count of 96,069 seven years ago.
It’s worth noting that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s actual peak concurrent player count will be bigger, given the game launched on console as well as PC...
Developer Noodle Cat Games has announced Cloudheim, a new multiplayer action-adventure/survival/crafting game due out later this year for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. It boasts a Zelda-like art style and a powerful physics-based combat system.

For those who have been hoping to pick up Ubisoft's latest release set in a galaxy far, far away, Star Wars Outlaws for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X has dropped to $40 at Amazon. This deal marks a discount of over 40% from its list price of $69.99, making it well worth jumping on before the price goes back up. And this deal may not stick around for long, either, as Amazon has the Xbox Series X version listed as a limited time deal at the moment, so you'll want to act fast to secure it at this price.
Star Wars Outlaws Is Discounted to $40 at Amazon
We found a lot to love in Star Wars Outlaws upon release. In our review, IGN's Tristan Ogilvie said, "As far as Star Wars video games go, we’ve taken countless turns at twirling...
MultiVersus will shut down when Season 5 ends in May, but the sweeping changes to combat speed that were introduced in a new update have fans enjoying its gameplay now more than ever — and even sparked a #SaveMultiVersus trend on social media.
The community for the Warner Bros. platform fighting game woke up ready to dive into its fifth and final season when it launched yesterday, February 4, at 9am PT. Developer Player First Games had spelled out plans to shutter the project last week, teasing that the update would include DC’s Aquaman and Looney Toons’ Lola Bunny as its last playable characters. What was poised to be a somber sendoff for MultiVersus actually brought on extensive movement changes across the board, resulting in a much...
As you’d expect, EA is eyeing the Nintendo Switch 2 as a platform for its games. In a recent financial call, CEO Andrew Wilson was asked directly about Nintendo’s next-gen console, and he replied to suggest the company has plans to release many of its games there.
Wilson singled out EA's money-spinning sports franchises, Madden and FC, as potentially finding “real energy” on Nintendo Switch 2, and also pointed to The Sims as a game that could do well on the console.
“Anytime a new console comes into the marketplace that's of a benefit to us, it gives us the ability to access and acquire new players,” Wilson said. “Typically, we've had franchises perform very well on Nintendo platforms. Certainly our expectation is that products like...
As Respawn’s battle royale Apex Legends nears its sixth birthday, EA has said it’s failing to do the business for the company, and outlined plans for what it called Apex Legends 2.0.
Speaking in a financial call on its third quarter results, EA said that Apex Legends net bookings (revenue) were down year-over-year, but performed in-line with the company’s expectations.
During a question and answers session with analysts, EA CEO Andrew Wilson was asked for an update on the performance of Apex Legends, and his response was clear: Apex Legends is a huge game with millions of players, but it’s simply not making enough money for EA.
“Apex is probably one of the great new launches in our industry over the last decade and has been loved by...
EA CEO Andrew Wilson has commented on the financial failure of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, saying it failed to "resonate with a broad enough audience."
Last week, EA restructured Dragon Age developer BioWare to focus on Mass Effect 5 only, meaning some who worked on The Veilguard were moved to projects at other EA studios.
The decision followed EA’s announcement that Dragon Age: The Veilguard had underperformed on its expectations for the long-awaited action RPG. EA said Dragon Age "engaged" 1.5 million players during its recent financial quarter, which was down nearly 50% from the company's projections.
IGN has chronicled some of Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s development challenges, including layoffs and the departure of several...

If you took a Family Feud-style survey of which pro sports simulation video game series people would most want 2K to take a crack at that they’re not already making, a resurrection of NFL 2K would easily be the number-one answer. Heck, pro golf might not even be the second or third answer (hello, MLB and NHL). But the company is nevertheless returning for a third round with PGA Tour 2K25, and after playing for a couple of hours, there’s a lot to like.
In truth, developer HB Studios has been honing its golf game for quite a while now, having made The Golf Club starting a decade ago before signing on with 2K and rebranding to PGA Tour 2K in 2020. The team’s experience and maturity shine through in 2K25, as I had a hard time finding any...
Destiny 2's next Episode, Heresy, is just around the corner. The "final epilogue entry" for the Light and Darkness Saga will have some unvoiced lines of dialogue though, due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.
In the recent This Week In Destiny update, Bungie said its teams have taken care to deliver the narrative and story content, but warned that certain voice lines will be silent due to the ongoing Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists strike.
Subtitles will be enabled by default so players don't miss any story, and Bungie outlined a number of accessibility and visibility options for said subtitles. Heresy activities that have missing voice acting will display a warning before launch.
The SAG-AFTRA...
The 1976 classic Breakout is getting a new look, nearly 50 years later. Breakout Beyond is a twist on Atari's brick-breaker, keeping the same paddle-and-ball setup but having it all move sideways.
Developed by Choice Provisions, the studio behind the BIT.TRIP series, Breakout Beyond has a sideways progression path as players move left-to-right. Breaking bricks is still the objective, and as combos ramp up lights and effects intensify.
Special bricks can flip on some fantastic effects too, ranging from massive explosions to an actual laser cannon. 72 levels are planned for Breakout Beyond, alongside an unlockable endless mode with an online global leaderboard. If you don't want to break bricks alone, Breakout Beyond also has local...

Hot on the heels of Helldivers 2’s latest update, patch 01.002.101, going live, players have noticed developer Arrowhead used it to secretly add a new tool to the game: a shovel.
Players have discovered the shovel as a POI item dotted about the map, and have found they’re able to actually dig into the ground with it to create makeshift cover.
Redditor The_Fighter03 alerted the community to the find with a video clip, below, showing the new shovel in action.
Arrowhead failed to make any mention in today’s update 01.002.101, nor has it explained why shovels are all of a sudden in the game. But fans had wondered whether the patch had more to it than Arrowhead let on, given it weighed in at over 5GB. Perhaps the terrain deformation /...
If you watched the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal video, you’ll have spotted what looked like a ‘mouse’ mode for the Joy-Cons.
During the reveal trailer, there's a moment where a pair of detached Joy-Cons are lowered onto a surface, attachment side down. They connect to a pair of connectors that seem to have relatively flat bottoms, and then slide across the surface like a mouse on a mouse pad. If you look closely, you can even see something that looks like a slider pad on the bottom of one of the connectors, leading further credence to the theory.
Rumors had been flying in the lead-up to the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal that this would be possible due to a sensor on the inside of the Joy-Cons similar to the sensor on the bottom of a computer...
Arrowhead has released Helldivers 2's first big update of 2025, making a number of important changes to the game.
Patch 01.002.101, out now, increases the duration of the gas status effect from spray weapons, returns the ability to emote while flying or ragdolling, and makes a number of other balance changes and fixes.
Helldivers 2 is nearing its first anniversary, and with the arrival of the Illuminate enemy faction breathing new life into the game, players are wondering what’s next in the ongoing meta narrative that is the Galactic War. Fans also suspect this update sneakily adds new content as well as the balance changes and fixes, given it weighs in at over 5GB.
And it’s worth highlighting this particular change, just because...
No matter your platform of choice, I’ve found the deals of the day that'll disappear faster than a rare loot drop. Cases in points: A cool hundred off the crisp vibrancy of a Switch OLED White and 75% off a BAFTA-winning narrative-driven must-play.
I’m also all about hooking you creative types up with a freebie on RPG Maker VX Ace—an engine behind many indie gems. And, being the mild sadist that I am, I’m very keen to usher some new victims into The Lands Between with a cheap deal on Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Edition.
In retro news, I’m using the nearby explosion of a Camaro to light 26 candles on a cake baked for Rush 2: Extreme Racing USA. This N64 cult classic expanded on its predecessor, San Francisco Rush, with more...
