One Elden Ring player has completed an astonishing run through both the base game and expansion Shadow of the Erdtree with one hit point, one focus point, and just one point of stamina.
Twitch streamer Ainrun completed their run after more than 20 hours and 900 deaths, sharing the moment they conquered Shadow of the Erdtree's final boss on X/Twitter, below. The feat is a world's first.
Having just one hit point is an obvious threat, as it means any hit taken, even from the most insignificant enemy or fall, results in death, But having just one focus point, or FP, meant Ainrun couldn't use any magic or Ash of War skills that allow the myriad speedrunning and cheesing strategies deployable in normal runs.
But it was the one point of...
NCSoft, the South Korean MMO specialist behind the likes of Throne and Liberty, Guild Wars 2, and Lineage, has confirmed a significant restructure of the company amid a sweeping round of layoffs.
South Korean news agency Yonhap reported on comments from NCSoft co-CEOs Taek-Jin Kim and Byung-Moo Park, who blamed the incoming layoffs and reorganization on the company’s ongoing financial troubles. “We feel a deep sense of responsibility and offer an apology to all employees,” they said.
The co-CEOs added that "as a result of operating in a way that most of the manpower and functions are concentrated at the headquarters, financial performance has continued to deteriorate and we are at risk of becoming a chronically loss-making company,"...
Zombie survival sims typically thrive on scale. We follow a ragtag group of civilian survivors who've been forced into terrible odds against a gelatinous horde of rotting flesh that smashes against the barricades and swims through the streets until, eventually, humanity's last lights are snuffed out for good. Some great games have been forged in this mold, but Into The Dead: Our Darkest Days, developed by New Zealand indie studio PikPok, subverts those tropes entirely. This is an experience about the sheer, spleen-squeezing anxiety of being alone in a room with one—yes, often exactly one—member of the living dead. And as it turns out, that's plenty terrifying, too.
At its core, Into The Dead: Our Darkest Days has a lot in common with...
If you’ve ever wondered what the arcade classic Rampage would be like if you had to play as a puny human rather than one of the skyscraper-smashing goliaths, then Kong: Survivor Instinct might be your answer. This 2.5D Metroidvania platformer takes place amidst a crumbling coastal cityscape while Kong and his kaiju combatants duke it out in the background, making it seem at first glance a bit like a Shadow Complex situated within Shadow of the Colossus. It’s a novel enough concept, but basic environmental puzzle design and uninspired combat mean that Survivor Instinct is unable to reach the towering heights of its ideas, and as I begrudgingly pushed crates and collected keys to make my way through each ruined urban rabbit hole I could...

Dotemu also confirmed a physical release for Metal Slug Tactics (details to come), as well as an original soundtrack composed in full by Tee Lopes (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, Sonic Mania, Streets of Rage 4’s Mr. X Nightmare DLC), with a physical vinyl release through Kid Katana Records.
Dotemu is the publisher behind the wonderful...
Call of Duty: Black Ops is often more overtly gung-ho and violent than Modern Warfare and other Call of Duty series. But for every Michael Bay-style blockbuster moment there are flashes of betrayal, psychological warfare, and plenty of undercover operations that skirt the grey zones of morality. But, of the 50-plus campaign missions across the Black Ops series, which is the best?
IGN sat down with senior Call of Duty Black Ops developers to ask them what their favorite campaigns are from across the entire Call of Duty: Black Ops franchise. Have your favorite missions made the cut?
Vorkuta (Call of Duty: Black Ops)
One of the most popular Call of Duty: Black Ops campaigns among the development team is Vorkuta. Three separate, senior...
The Silent Hill 2 remake received its first big update yesterday in Patch 1.04, but it also reportedly includes a progress breaking bug.
Eurogamer reported that several Silent Hill 2 players shared their frustration online as the game's Labyrinth section now lives up to its namesake a little too well, trapping players inside its walls forever as a result of the bug.
This section is a giant puzzle, as players must manipulate a cube to shift the walls around and open new pathways to progress. That's how it worked until Patch 1.04 was released, however, as some pathways now won't open at all.
Users reported the bug across both versions of Silent Hill 2, on PC and PlayStation 5, but developer Bloober Team has yet to comment on it...
Ubisoft has cut the price of the Japan-set Assassin's Creed Shadows' Collector's Edition by $50 in lieu of the cancelled Season Pass, scrapped early access plans, and the game's delay to 2025.
The developer confirmed the price drop in a Discord post, telling fans it would now cost $229.99 instead of $279.99 and no longer contain a handful of the bonuses originally announced.
Ubisoft was a leading publisher behind the recent trend of offering "early access" to its games, which many have said is simply about charging fans more money to play often single-player games on their actual release date, and forcing those who stick to the standard $70 edition to wait three extra days.
Ubisoft had already made clear this would no longer be on...
Naughty Dog has updated both The Last of Us Part 1 on PlayStation 5 and The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered to add PS5 Pro support ahead of the mid-gen console upgrade’s release next month.
PS5 Pro has an AI-powered upscaling feature called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) that can automatically improve the image clarity of games, but PS5 Pro Enhanced games take particular advantage of the beefier console’s features.
Naughty Dog detailed The Last of Us Part 1 update 2.00 in patch notes published to its website. On PS5, the game has a new ‘Pro’ mode that renders at at 1440p, with PSSR upscaling output to 4K “while maintaining a target of 60fps.”
Elsewhere, on PS5 Pro The Last of Us Part 1’s Performance and Fidelity rendering...
For most of us, the biggest penalty for making too much noise might be a scolding shush from the movie theater seat behind you, but in A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead you’re only ever one creaky floorboard away from getting snuffed out by an alien threat that’s always listening out for you like it’s the most sinister form of Siri. This instant fail stealth-heavy horror story does a pretty convincing job of recreating the breath-holding tension of the films, in addition to borrowing heavily from the likes of Alien: Isolation in the way it casts you as the reluctant rodent trapped in a deadly game of cat and mouse. The result is a consistently stressful undertaking from start to finish, even though my careful creep down The Road Ahead moved...
Welcome to a Tuesday of inordinately discounted video games and consoles. What am I doing today? Just sitting here waiting for Batman: Arkham Shadow to go live in (what seems to be) a very gridlocked and laggy Meta Store. It was, of course, the free game being given away with Meta Quest 3 headsets. It's not too late to get on that (slow) train to Gotham.
In retro news, I'm celebrating the 31st birthday of Disney's Aladdin, a shining, shimmering, splendid diamond in the rough that was 16-bit graphics. Like a genie who'd just been tricked into granting free wishes, my jaw was on the floor when I first beheld this on Mega Drive. Actual Disney artists had lent their talents to the sprite creation process, and we'd simply never before seen...
Remedy Games detailed its approach to Alan Wake 2's PS5 Pro update in a new post on its official site, explaining that Quality Mode will add ray tracing at the expense of running at 30 FPS, but that the patch will also include big improvements to Performance Mode.
According to the official post, Alan Wake 2's Quality Mode will run at 30 FPS with ray tracing while outputting at 3840 x 2160 (4K). Its render resolution will be 2176 x 1224. In some ways it's not surprising given Alan Wake 2's hefty PC requirements, which recommend at least an RTX 4080 for good performance with ray tracing turned up.
That said, there are still meaningful improvements to be found in the PS5 Pro version of Alan Wake 2 without sacrifing frame-rate. Among...
Hit indie title Vampire Survivors is getting its biggest chunk of downloadable content to date in the Ode to Castlevania expansion releasing on Halloween.
Developer poncle revealed a trailer for the DLC on X/Twitter, below. It contains more than 20 characters and 40 weapons alongside one massive stage "and more" for $3.99. "There's so much content you're guaranteed at least another 10 hours of gameplay," poncle said.
A stylish animated trailer shows a combination of Vampire Survivors' pixel art gameplay with slick Castlevania animations showing off a handful of the characters arriving in the game. Ode to Castlevania will come to all platforms where Vampire Survivors is available on Halloween.
Vampire Survivors is a fast-paced and...
Amazon and Games Workshop have revealed fresh details about their Secret Level Warhammer 40,000 episode, confirming it’s a sequel to the recently released Space Marine 2.
Secret Level is an animated anthology series made up of 15 independent episodes, each based on a game. It’s created by some of the people behind Netflix’s animated anthology series Love, Death & Robots, and is set to launch on Prime Video on December 10.
In a post on Warhammer Community, Games Workshop pointed out that executive producer and supervising director Dave Wilson was responsible for one of the first ever Warhammer animations, the iconic opening to the original Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War real-time strategy game. That opening cinematic, now 20 years old...
Alan Wake 2 gets a chunky patch tomorrow, October 22, as developer Remedy Entertainment has unveiled the Anniversary Update.
A blog post outlined the myriad additions coming to Alan Wake 2 in a major update to its acccessibility settings, with Remedy adding options such as infinite ammo and one shot kills. The update is free and launches alongside but not as part of the The Lake House expansion.
Alongside the accessibility additions comes the ability to invert the horizontal axis and not just the vertical, plus updates to DualSense functionality on PlayStation 5 such as motion control support and more haptic feedback. The full patch notes are available below.
"We can’t believe it’s been almost a year since Alan Wake 2 was...
Since this is a Sonic review I’ll go fast and cut to the chase: Sonic X Shadow Generations is a fantastic combination of one of the Blue Blur's classics and a new helping of smartly designed Shadow levels built around his own abilities, and after spending some time with it has become one of my favorite Sonic games I've ever played. Sega and Sonic Team have learned from their recent attempts, Frontiers and Superstars, and have found clever ways to weave the best ideas of those games into a major refresh of a fan favorite. And certainly, when it comes to Shadow the Hedgehog, this is his definitive game.
Half of the content of Sonic X Shadow Generations is remastered from 2011’s Sonic Generations, which we gave an 8.5 In our review back...
The Call of Duty riot shield has been a source of much debate within the community for years. This primary weapon replacement — a huge shield that lets you deflect bullets from enemy weapons — has sparked as much frustration as it has devilish delight, with critics claiming the riot shield encourages frustrating turtle tactics that are hard to counter, and fans saying, essentially, get good.
Over the last few Call of Duty games, the riot shield has met with consistent calls for it to be either nerfed or pulled from the game. It’s a particular favorite of the Modern Warfare sub-brand, appearing in last year’s Modern Warfare 3, 2022’s Modern Warfare 2, and 2021’s Call of Duty: Vanguard. Black Ops developer Treyarch, however, isn't a...
I go into Lego Horizon Adventures cocky—seeking to test the mettle of my Aloy. Difficulty setting? That’s new; I crank it right up to 5 out of 5 (“Hero”). Worse yet, I also take this co-opportunity to play with my son for this hands on.
How would backup be a hardship enhancer and not a problem halver? In the 27-odd Lego games we've clocked together, he's double-jumped at the chance to shoot, saber, or sneakily screen-scroll me to death. Repeatedly. His favourite thing in life is handing me my own Lego pants-part.
His favourite thing in life is handing me my own Lego pants-part.
With zero surprise, it dawns on me quickly that our demo will be yet another trial by friendly-fire. To my actual, genuine shock: the combat system being...
Lego Horizon Adventures is recasting Lance Reddick's character Sylens after the actor died in March 2023.
Sylens is the deuteragonist of Horizon Zero Dawn and a returning character in its sequel, Horizon Forbidden West. He allies with protagonist Aloy to discover the truth behind the machines and the fate of the Old Ones.
Guerrilla Games' senior world artist Lucas Bolt told IGN that, while Sylens will appear in Lego Horizon Adventures, he will be played by someone new.
"Lance Reddick tragically passed away in 2023, and he is deeply missed within Guerrilla and our community," Bolt told IGN as part of our final preview of Lego Horizon Adventures.
"He wonderfully portrayed the essential character of Sylens in Horizon Zero Dawn and...
Batman, Indiana Jones, Marvel. I've nearly lost count of how many brands have undergone the Lego treatment since my first foray into the various Lego games since Lego Star Wars in 2005. And after a two-hour demo session with Lego Horizon Adventures, based of course on Sony’s two-game open-world robot-dinosaur-hunting action-adventure franchise, I'm happy to report that it's familiar enough for long-term fans of Lego games, but could be just different enough to reignite the interest of fans who have begun to skip over other recent ones.
Now, I can't say precisely what it is yet, but in the best way possible, something felt different when playing Lego Horizon Adventures as opposed to the countless other Lego games I've played. It didn't...
Bloober Team has released the first major update for the Silent Hill 2 remake in Patch 1.04, addressing myriad gameplay issues as well as improving the survival horror game's technical performance.
The patch notes were released on Steam and outline dozens of changes made to Silent Hill 2. Some address funnier bugs like protagonist James teleporting through a peephole and getting stuck in a window near Neely's Bar.
On the technical front, Bloober Team has reduced visual glitches when using the latest version of Nvidia DLSS, added an option to enable DLSS frame generation in the menu when using DLSS for supersampling, and added support for AMD FSR 3.1.1. The full patch notes are available below.

Ahead of the launch of Black Ops 6, Activision has said it’s using AI in its ongoing battle against Call of Duty cheaters, and hopes to kick cheaters out of the game within one hour of them being in their first match.
Call of Duty has had a cheating problem for years, with free-to-download battle royale Warzone on PC suffering in particular. Activision has spent millions of dollars developing its anti-cheat technology as well as pursuing cheat makers in the courts, with a number of recent high-profile successes stemming the tide.
But video game publishers face an uphill battle in the war against the increasingly sophisticated cheat makers, so Activision has announced plans to draft in AI to help.
“Fighting cheats today – on the...
Bloober Team has admitted it knew it had to "evolve" after releasing The Medium, a decision which led to the development of bigger games such as the Silent Hill 2 remake and the upcoming Cronos: The New Dawn.
Cronos director and producer Jacek Zieba told IGN that The Medium, which arrived in 2021 as a psychological horror adventure game alongside a Metascore of 71 on Metacritic, became a turning point for the studio as it looked to make bigger and better games.
"I think after The Medium it was very clear to us that we needed to evolve," Zieba said. "It was like, 'let's end the chapter of the adventure games.' Layers of Fear, Observer, and The Medium, [games that were] strange, experimental, with fixed camera tools. 'Okay, let's...
Insomniac Games made the shock announcement last week that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 won’t get any additional story content, putting to bed fan hopes for DLC.
The announcement came in the same breath that Sony announced a PC version of Spider-Man 2 launches in January — one of the quickest turnarounds from single-player PS5 exclusive to PC from the company so far.
Since Spider-Man 2 came out in September 2023, Insomniac has released a number of updates for the game, adding New Game+, mission replay, new suits, and more. But fans had hoped that story DLC would give them more of a reason to return to Insomniac's wonderful recreation of New York that the addition of new features. Now, those hopes have been dashed.
But fans hadn’t just...
After Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2’s latest patch made pretty much everything about the PvE Operations mode harder, one heroic player has done the Emperor proud by coming up with the game’s ultimate cheese.
Space Marine 2 Update 4.0 added a new PvE map and with it the terrifying Tyranid Hierophant Bio-Titan, which ordinarily must be tackled by a squad of three players working together to down this enormous xenos monstrosity.
After leaving the final elevator room and entering the map's boss fight area, players are meant to activate a central terminal to link their sidearm with ultra powerful fortress lascannons — powerful enough to down even a Bio-Titan.
You then use your sidearm as a targeting system for the cannons, aiming at...
It's time to exit your weekend and enter a whole new week/world of savings. The biggest deal of the day is the low coins proposition for Super Marios Odyssey and Party Jamboree. If you're plumber averse, may I recommend some historically low Skyrim, Fallout, and a Forza Horizon instead? There's stupid amounts of open-world fun in each of them.
In retro news, I'm celebrating the 14th bday of Fallout: New Vegas, a best-in-series deal (depends on which IRL NPC you dialogue with). I was captivated at launch, thanks to an unorthodox kickoff with Matthew Perry as an insta-hateable nemesis. NV then proceeded to raise the stakes further with more diverse combat options and ironsights, plus Obsidian's true ace in the hole—a brilliant writing...
The weekend is officially here, and we've rounded up the best deals you can find! Discover the best deals for Sunday, October 20, below:
Resident Evil 4 for $19.99
Resident Evil 4 was one of the biggest games of 2023, with Capcom recreating one of the highest-praised action titles ever. As Leon S. Kennedy, it's up to you to travel to Europe and rescue the President's daughter, Ashley Graham. With the Separate Ways DLC also available, the Resident Evil 4 remake is simply one of the best action games ever. There's never been a better time to jump in, with this price acting as an all-time low.
EA Sports College Football 25 for $42.99

Star Citizen developer Cloud Imperium Games has said Squadron 42 launches at some point in 2026.
If the game does indeed launch then, it'll come out an incredible 14 years after CIG first launched Star Citizen's crowdfunding drive.
During CitizenCon in Manchester, England this evening, CIG boss Chris Roberts, known for creating the Wing Commander series, took to the stage to say he was "confident" that Star Citizen’s long-awaited standalone single-player story game would release in 2026.
Roberts’ on-stage comments followed a lengthy live gameplay demo that suffered a number of crashes, bugs, and graphical problems, but did give the audience a good idea of Squadron 42’s first hour.
CIG demoed Squadron 42’s prologue, which is...
We all have our favorite Call of Duty multiplayer map, but which Black Ops multiplayer map do the developers of the game keep returning to in their spare time? IGN sat down with senior Call of Duty Black Ops developers, many of whom actually created some of the most popular Call of Duty maps of all time, to answer once and for all which multiplayers maps truly are the best.
Just a note before we begin, this list will only cover multiplayer maps that have appeared in the Black Ops series, meaning you won’t be finding maps that appeared in the Modern Warfare games. Apologies to fans of Crash.
Nuketown (Call of Duty: Black Ops)
No list of Black Ops multiplayer maps can exist without Nuketown. Perhaps one of the most popular multiplayer...
As luck would have it, 2024 turned out to be a rough year to release a co-op multiplayer game featuring a satirical fascistic military force battling hordes and hordes of monstrous, bug-like alien creatures. Ironically, of the three major games that fit this description that hit PCs and consoles this year, Starship Troopers: Extermination is the least effective at pulling off the mighty few versus the endless enemy motif. Of course, even if it doesn’t match the high bar set by Helldivers 2 and Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2, you can have a decent amount of fun with its unique features, like larger teams and clever base-building sections, before the swarm becomes too monotonous.
Before diving into the main multiplayer event, Starship...
