Life is a highway, so they say. And in Broken Arrow, the upcoming modern warfare RTS from Steel Balalaika and Slitherine, it's a highway littered with exploded BMD fighting vehicles that I just took out with a heavy armored advance, before getting caught out by an AT attack on my flanks. Set in a fictional Eastern European war between Russia and the United States, it has a lot of tactical depth while remaining very easy to control. The scenario is a bit cloudy from the couple of missions I played. I spent half the time driving an American dignitary around a joint Baltic States base in a tutorial mission, with the snarky implication that he only really cares about selling more tanks and planes. The other was securing a convoy route to...
Ubisoft has teased a significant evolution of Rainbow Six Siege, promising to unveil what it calls Siege X in March. Siege X is described as “the biggest transformation in the game's history, including new tactical gameplay, graphical and audio upgrades, and more.” This is not Rainbow Six Siege 2, rather a significant change for Rainbow Six Siege designed to set the competitive multiplayer game for its second decade of live service. Rainbow Six Siege struggled when it launched in December 2015, but Ubisoft’s work to improve the game is seen as one of the most dramatic turnarounds in video game history alongside Final Fantasy 14 and No Man’s Sky. In the last decade, Rainbow Six Siege has proven a reliable money-spinner even when...
Welcome back to a week stacked with must-have titles at prices more unbeatable than a FromSoftware game modded to be Ultra-Nightmare. As for standout gems, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes could slash its way into your library/heart at 44% off. Otherwise, Persona 5 Royal will let you live your best (or most rebellious) life, with extra content that wasn't in the original (read: an entire semester’s worth of gameplay). If those two somehow aren’t for you, start scrolling to get lost in the savings… This Day in Gaming 🎂 In retro news and with some serious overkill, I’m using a lightsaber to light 19 candles for Star Wars: Empire at War. This bad boy is an all-timer RTS and one of the best Star Wars tie-ins one could get in a sea of...

Viktor Antonov, visionary art director of games such as Half-Life 2 and Dishonored, has died aged 52. Creature-collecting games—think Pokémon—have evolved significantly in recent years. While many indie titles stick to a classic approach, like Coromon, others take unique directions, such as the retro-inspired Siralim Ultimate or the survival-focused Palworld. Now, Yaoling: Mythical Adventure is adding its own twist to the genre, yet it’s flying under the radar. Inspired by Chinese mythology, […] Continue reading...

How Many Monster Hunter Games Are There? There are upwards of 25 Monster Hunter games when considering all base games, spinoffs, mobile entries, and enhanced versions. However...
Though Marvel Rivals is still a relatively new game, players are already dreaming of big additions. Recently, rumors have spread of a potential PvE boss fight, leading some to speculate that a PvE mode is right around the corner. Unfortunately, NetEase recently clarified that it doesn't have plans for such a mode...yet. We spoke to Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas this week, and asked him about any plans for a PvE mode. This was his response: "For now we don't have any kind of a PvE plan, but our development team is continuously experimenting with new game play modes. So if we found that a new specific game mode is entertaining enough, fun enough, we would of course bring it to our audience." After...
Marvel Rivals dataminers think the developers are trolling them with lists of potential future characters hidden in the game's code. But NetEase and Marvel say they have better things to do...like actually make the game. Last month, dataminers began sharing names of potential future heroes hidden in the code of Marvel Rivals, a few of whom seemed to be confirmed pretty quickly as real when the Fantastic Four were officially announced. However, as the list of datamined heroes grew, a different rumor began to circulate in the community: some of the names were fake, planted there by developers to mislead dataminers. Even now, there's disagreement in the community as to which, if any of the datamined characters are really being seriously...
The widely popular hero shooter Marvel Rivals is seeing massive success on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. But its developer NetEase has been firm that it's not coming to Nintendo Switch, leaving Nintendo players out of luck on joining in the fun. But what about the Nintendo Switch 2? We had the opportunity to pose this question to Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu this past week at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas. And fortunately for Switch fans, it sounds like a Switch 2 release is a real possibility. As Wu put it: "We're already in contact with Nintendo and working on some development kits. And whenever we find that we could provide great performance for our game on Switch 2, we're open to that. The reason why we didn't launch it onto the...
Earlier this week at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas, Nevada, Naughty Dog head Neil Druckmann and Sony Santa Monica head Cory Barlog sat down in front of an audience for a chat about a very personal topic: doubt. The two bantered back and forth for roughly an hour on a series of subjects that were clearly very close to both of them, ranging from their own doubts about themselves as creators to how they knew an idea was “right” or not. The two also answered a few pre-submitted audience questions, including one that Barlog read to Druckmann about sequels: “How do you and your teams approach character development over multiple games? Druckmann’s answer, though, was surprising for someone who’s made quite a few sequels in his day: he doesn’t...
Obsidian's Avowed just went live in advanced access for those willing to spend more, sending new adventurers out across the Living Lands. While they're out there, they might discover some magical items and dangers, and apparently, a little bit of love after all. During the pre-release run-up for Avowed, Obsidian said the game wouldn't feature a dedicated romance system, and would instead focus on building "thoughtful relationships" with companions. Here's a quote from an IGN interview with Avowed game director Carrie Patel, explaining the thought process: "We are building thoughtful relationships with our companion characters," Patel said at the time. "Ultimately, I personally am a fan of making that an option, but I feel like if...
The pre-registration window is officially open on PC, iOS, and Android for Mecharashi, a free-to-play tactical RPG that puts you in charge of outfitting and deploying a squad of mech pilots. If this is your first time hearing of Mecharashi, it’s developed by BlackJack Studio and is focused on strategy and tactics. Every mech, both yours and your enemies’, is made up of four parts: a body, legs, right arm, and left arm. Each part has its own separate HP, and reducing each part to zero brings about different results. "The core gameplay of our game is inspired by Front Mission," the dev team told IGN. "When we reviewed the design brilliance of Front Mission, the most striking revelation came from its groundbreaking choice in 1995: while...
Cardy, Matt, and Jesse are here to talk through a few of the highlights from this week's PlayStation State of Play. Elden Ring Nightreign's first big network test is underway, but eagle-eyed observers have already spotted that the survival royale has more on the way. A now-deleted Steam page mentioned additional DLC, confirming Elden Ring Nightreign will get additional boss and characters post-launch. Per PC Gamer, a line on Elden Ring Nightreign's Steam page read: "Additional DLC — Additional playable characters and bosses." It's since been removed, and there's always the slim chance this was added in error, but it more than likely confirms Elden Ring Nightreign will be getting more content down the line. Since this particular version of Elden Ring is a bit more online and live service, it's not a surprising note. Elden Ring Nightreign is a...
20 years after the release of the original Ōkami, the great god Amaterasu, origin of all that is good and mother to us all, is making a triumphant and unexpected return. Announced at The Game Awards last year, a sequel to Ōkami is in development. Hideki Kamiya, newly separated from Platinum Games, has formed his own new studio, Clovers, and taken the directing helm. He does this with the blessing of IP owner Capcom, which is serving as publisher, and with the support of Machine Head Works, a new-ish studio staffed by Capcom veterans that's already supported several recent Capcom titles, including the Ōkami HD remake. Everything we've seen so far speaks to an all-star line-up of talent, mixing both new developers with veterans of the...
The notion of dual protagonists in Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed games is hardly a novel one. Indeed, the whole concept debuted nearly ten years ago in 2015’s Victorian London set Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and arguably provided something of a breath of fresh air from the series’ traditionally solo escapades. In the case of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, […] Continue reading...

Civilization 7 features some of the most significant gameplay changes the long-running strategy series has ever seen. Chief among them is the ability to, for the first time, mix leaders with civs they have nothing to do with, going by real-world history. In previous Civ games, the civilizations themselves are tied to a specific leader, usually a famous head of state, in such a way as to make historical sense. Elizabeth I, for example, leads the English. Gandhi leads the Indians, and so on. Civilization 7, however, lets players mix and match history for some crazy combinations, and while some players have said they are enjoying the gameplay possibilities this system unlocks, others have bemoaned what they consider to be an assault on...
Elden Ring Nightreign’s first network test — ongoing at the time of this article’s publication — is suffering from significant server issues that have prevented many from playing. IGN staff with access to the test reported server problems so extreme they were unable to access the game for the test’s first hour. The issues were bad enough that FromSoftware issued a statement on social media, confirming that players were struggling to find a match due to server congestion. The developer apologized, but encouraged players to try matching again after a while. Exacerbating the problem is the fact the Elden Ring Nightreign network test is only available during five three-hour periods on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S from February...
What happens to GTA Online when Grand Theft Auto 6 comes out? That’s a question a lot of GTA Online players have been asking ever since GTA 6 was announced. And now, as GTA 6’s fall 2025 release date approaches, they’re no closer to an answer. GTA Online is Rockstar’s hugely profitable live service that continues to pull in players even now, well over a decade since launch. Its enduring appeal and ability to print money is thought to have influenced Rockstar’s decision to prioritize the live service over story DLC for Grand Theft Auto 5, much to the annoyance of some fans. But there is a more pressing concern looming over the horizon. When GTA 6 eventually comes out, it is expected to bring with it a new and improved GTA Online...

PC players can secure a solid discount by preordering from Fanatical, where the standard edition (Steam code) is down to $35.19 / £30.79 just under $5 / £5 in savings, while the deluxe edition is priced at $48.39 (down from $54.99). For those...
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is set for Update 3 next week, Bethesda has announced. Ahead of the full patch notes, Bethesda released initial details on Update 3 in a tweet. It’s set to make a number of fixes and improvements, as well as add support for Nvidia DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation and DLSS Ray Reconstruction. Players are hoping Update 3 fixes the various game-breaking bugs Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has suffered from since its launch in early December. Last month, Bethesda said the February update would add new graphical features and options, and the bug fixes would target issues that have prevented some players from 100%-ing the game and from climbing vines or squeezing through walls in Sukhothai. It’s...
STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl developer GSC Game World has issued a major patch for the shooter, targeting some 1,700 fixes and improvements including to the A-Life 2.0 system. Patch 1.2 is, as described by GSC Game World in a post on Steam, “a massive one,” and impacts all aspects of the game, such as balance, locations, quests, blockers, crashes, performance, and the aforementioned A-Life 2.0. STALKER 2 launched in November to a positive reception on Steam and 1 million sales. It’s a success for the Ukrainian studio, a miracle, really, considering the harrowing circumstances that followed Russian’s full-scale invasion of the country in 2022. But Stalker 2 suffers from well-documented bugs and issues; chief among them A-Life 2.0...

There were a lot of other games that won multiple categories, and Helldivers 2 came in second with four wins for Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Composition, Outstanding Achievement in Audio Design, Action Game of the Year, and Online Game of the Year. Balatro and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle both brought home three wins. In addition to...

Ubisoft has insisted that its upcoming open world adventure Assassin's Creed Shadows has a strong number of preorders despite its troubled development and promotional period. The struggling publisher said in its latest financial report that "preorders for the game are tracking solidly, in line with those of Assassin's Creed Odyssey, the second most successful entry of the franchise." Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot maintained this confidence, saying the company is currently "fully focused on the upcoming launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows on March 20. "Early previews have been positive, praising its narrative and immersive experience, with both characters playing critical roles in the game’s storyline, as well as the quality and...
In an era of live services, MMOs, and generally disconnected online experiences, the idea of local multiplayer is quickly becoming a rarity. And while we have seen a handful of great couch co-op experiences pop up here and there, such as TMNT Shredders Revenge, Overcooked, and Hazelight Studios’ very own It Takes Two, I can’t think of anything I’ve played recently that resonated with me quite like Split Fiction. From its plethora of varying gameplay types, such as a twin-stick shooter, a pinball inspired puzzle platformer, and in one instance, a hot dog simulator, to its dazzling graphics and believable character dialogue, Split Fiction is looking to not only be another standout title in a year full of promising releases, but something...
Blizzard Entertainment laid out the roadmap for Overwatch 2's coming months yesterday, confirming a massive overhaul of the hero shooter. There was a lot to dig into, from perks and the incoming Stadium mode to plenty of cosmetics, but one notable piece of Overwatch history also returned: loot boxes. Loot boxes are returning to Overwatch 2 with Season 15, and it's spurred some interesting discussion around whether that's a good thing or not. For those unfamiliar, these boxes are drops you can accrue over time, which will randomly spit out an Overwatch cosmetic at random once you open them. Loot boxes were a core part of Overwatch 1's original monetization model and methods for doling out cosmetics, especially for those who would...
