There are plenty of things most people would be willing to do for $1 million, and now they can add taking part in Roblox's The Hunt: Mega Edition when the event starts on March 13. Cash hungry hopefuls will need to play their way through more than 24 different Roblox games to compete against other players to prove their skills. If they make it into the top ten competitors, they'll be invited to Roblox HQ in California and take part in a live-streamed final, where one will take home $1 million dollars. There are smaller prizes like "ultra-rare digital items" up for grabs and the event is open to anyone, but you have to be over 13 to be eligible for the big cash jackpot. The event is set to run until March 24 to find its top ten...
NetEase Games has confirmed that its previously leaked Marvel Rivals Clone Rumble mode is officially on the way, with plans to drop it later this week. The hero-shooter studio revealed plans and a trailer for the offshoot event today, pulling back the curtain on a gameplay option for those who occasionally need a break from the cutthroat chaos of quickplay and competitive modes. As you might have guessed from the name, Marvel Rivals’ Clone Rumble mode removes hero limits by asking each team to choose a single hero to play as. That means the dream to see a 6v6 match between a full lobby of Mister Fantastics will be fully realized come launch on March 7, 2025. Clone Rumble’s debut trailer teases how players can experiment with new...
Streets of Rage 4 developer Guard Crush Games is once again partnering up with publisher Dotemu for a beat-’em-up. This time, though, it’s Dotemu’s first original IP, with gorgeous hand-drawn-styled animation from Supamonks and a soundtrack by decorated video game score composer Gareth Coker. That’s a lot of talent on one unproven project, but if my hourlong hands-on with that project – it’s called Absolum – is any indication, it’s not going to be unproven for very long. Absolum is a roguelite side-scrolling beat-’em-up action-RPG designed for, in the developers’ words, “deep replayability with branching paths to explore, quests, characters, and challenging bosses.” I can attest to all of those things being true. It’s an absolutely...
Xbox has just announced a number of indie games dropping on Xbox Game Pass in the first half of March 2025, including Enter the Gungeon, Monster Train, and several more. Up first is Monster Train, which is out today on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, PC, and Standard across cloud, console, and PC. Monster Train has been on Game Pass in the past, but returns today. Per Microsoft's description, "Monster Train brings a new strategic layer to roguelike deckbuilding, with three vertical playing fields to defend. Hell has frozen over and only you can protect the final burning pyre from the forces of heaven and restore the inferno." Xbox also lists the ever-popular Balatro in its lineup, which dropped on Xbox Game Pass last week following the...
After winning the Game of the Year gong for It Takes Two at the The Game Awards 2021 I’m certain that developer Hazelight Studios was positively brimming with ideas of what to do next. I’m certain of this because the team appears to have used every one of those ideas in Split Fiction. An enchanting and confident two-person adventure like no other, Split Fiction is non-stop, co-op satisfaction that had me smiling consistently as we progressed, parkoured, and pulverised our way through to one of the best finales I’ve ever played. Is it a puzzle platformer? Is it a third-person action adventure? Is it an extreme sports game, or a side-scroller, or a twin-stick shooter? The answer is yes. Split Fiction is the story of two young and...
Whoever thought that playing an incandescently furious and vengeful Demi-god hellbent on murdering a veritable pantheon of deities could be so much fun? Well, Sony Santa Monica did back in 2005, when the Californian studio unleashed God of War upon PlayStation 2 owners to overwhelming critical and commercial acclaim. More than just the latest opulent […] Continue reading...
Rejoice, my fellow penny pinchin’ patient ones! This week’s gaming deals are packed with heavy-hitters at jaw-dropping discounts and some old gold you really ought to own already, so let’s dive into the best of the best. Get scrolling to get savin'! This Day in Gaming 🎂 In retro news, I'm using a PLAS-1 Scorcher to light 10 candles on a Helldivers bday cake. Rather different from its current-day darling of a sequel, this top-down twin-stick shooter was a white-knuckle affair that bolstered/ruined many a mateship with its uncommon inclusion of friendly fire. One core memory for me: hearing some NPC Helldivers on my bridge remark upon the 'peacefulness' of their skull logo in a very "Are we the baddies?" exchange. Comedy gold. Aussie...
Since launch, PC players of Monster Hunter Wilds have been tinkering with the game, working to optimize their performance and settings. As it turns out, some even dug all the way into the config files and found a typo, which they subsequently tested to see if that could bump up their numbers. As discovered on Steam over the weekend (thanks, Kotaku), inside the config file of Monster Hunter Wilds, there's a line where "Resolution" is spelled "Resoltuion". According to the original Steam poster, fixing the misspelled word gave them a "perfomance boost," though they also said it made their processor temperature "jump significantly," from 50 degrees Celsius to 70. A Reddit thread spun up too, where the original poster claimed to get a...
Monster Hunter Wilds has a patch arriving soon, addressing a known but fairly important issue with its story progression. As noted over the weekend by the Monster Hunter Status account on X/Twitter, players encountered an issue where a certain NPC didn't appear. Without the NPC there, this disabled story progression for Main Mission: Chapter 5-2 "A World Turned Upside Down." The main Monster Hunter account followed up with an update this morning, and confirmed a patch addressing the known progression blcokers will be deployed tomorrow morning, March 4. The update will briefly drop players from their online sessions when it goes live, but they will be able to jump back in after updating. It's a fast turnaround for a very frustrating...
Monster Hunter Wilds players have likely spent the weekend diving into the many hunts and activities. PC modders have also been busy, addressing one of the early frustrations with Wilds: Character Edit Vouchers. Both Character Edit Vouchers and Palico Edit Vouchers returned in Monster Hunter Wilds, much to the chagrin of both new and longtime players. But sure enough, PC modders have already built a workaround to get past the system and unlock unlimited character and Palico edits. It's a community fix that PC players would have seen coming, since modders have also tinkered with the same particular point of frustration in past Monster Hunter games. It's a fairly straightforward mod, simply allowing the player to not have to worry about...
Call of Duty cheat provider, Phantom Overlay, is reportedly shutting down. In a statement posted to Telegram, the cheat provider declined to comment on why it was closing down "immediately," adding: "This is not an exit scam and no external entity could ever compel me to exit scam my customers. I'll keep everything updated, safe, and online for 32 days longer." The reason Phantom Overlay is committed to staying online for 32 days is to ensure people with a 30-day key "get their full money's worth." The cheat creator also said they would partially refund lifetime keys, too. Crucially, many other cheat providers piggyback off Phantom Overlay's systems, so this shock closure could have a broader impact on the cheating ecosystem. "I...
Monster Hunter Wilds is a monster hit for Capcom, with an incredible 1.3 million concurrent players on Steam alone. And amid indie developers saying its launch stopped sales of their games and Palworld developer Pocketpair giving staff the day off to play, it seems Monster Hunter Wilds has caused an unlikely surge in sales of cheese naan. As reported by Automaton, Monster Hunter Wilds’ release has caused fans to rush out to Nepalese restaurants to buy cheese naan. But why cheese naan in particular? It’s because of one cutscene in the game that revolves around the cooking and eating of cheese naan. It shows it in great detail, complete with steaming hot melted cheese, as the player character and their companions sit down for a meal in...
Years ago, a mentor told me that the most important part of any story is surprise. A few years later, a writer I deeply respect wrote that perhaps the difference between good and great writing is technique, though even that was probably not as important as conviction. But what keeps us invested in a story is curiosity, the gap between what we know and what we want to know, the questions that drive us. Combine all three, and you tend to create something special. Each and every one of us has played a game that grabbed us from the jump, that connected with us in some unexpected way. A game that surprised us. Whose belief in itself was obvious from the first frame. That made us want to explore. I have played a lot of video games, friends...
Rockstar has acquired Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition developer Video Games Deluxe and renamed it Rockstar Australia. Video Games Deluxe has a history of working with Rockstar on a number of games, including the 2017 re-releases of L.A. Noire, L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files, and most recently on upgrades to Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition for iOS and Android, Netflix, and modern consoles. It’s not to be confused with Grove Street Games, which came under fire for the poor quality of the original Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition in 2021, and whose boss said it was a “d**k move” to have been removed from the game’s credits after the recent, long-awaited update went live...
It looks like we'll finally find out more about the return of Call of Duty Warzone's much-loved Verdansk map on March 10. Activision first confirmed Verdansk would be making a return to Warzone last August, but at the time the publisher would only commit to a vague "spring 2025" window and not a specific date. Now, however, players visiting the Call of Duty shop get a pop-up that reads: "The Verdansk Collection," and a countdown that looks set to explore a week today, on March 10, 2025 (thanks, InsiderGaming). Accompanying the pop-up is a simple, tri-color sketch that shows an alpine scene of snow, pine trees, a dam, and a crashed plane — a familiar sight for anyone who spent time in Warzone's original sandbox before it was...
You know your video game has made it when it gets a Thomas the Tank engine mod. Skyrim, Resident Evil 2, Fallout 4, Elden Ring… the list of blockbuster games blessed with the terrifying sight and sound of Thomas is legend. Now, add Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 to the list. It’s the latest work of Tom, aka Warhammer Workshop, the modder behind Space Marine 2’s excellent Astartes Overhaul. He’s added Thomas the Tank engine to the Ballistic Engine PvE mission, which is a perfect fit given it features an Imperial train station in which the Space Marines must escort a fusion battery that comes under attack from waves of Tyranids. Space Marine 2's Thomas the Tank Engine mod is a work-in-progress, and still needs the audio effects fans...
Overcoming an obstacle far larger than oneself, quite literally in the case of Monster Hunter: Wilds with its towering wyverns and hostile leviathans, has been a popular trope since David and Goliath. I, however, am no David – I have not toppled a foe far stronger than myself alone. That was, until I went into Wilds as my first ever solo Monster Hunter experience and discovered a whole new world to enjoy. I had my first encounter with the Monster Hunter series over a decade ago, drawn in by its exciting gameplay and impressive beasts each with their own unique biology. But my younger self quickly discovered that my fear of these virtual monsters felt all too real. It took me hours just to best the first, and weakest, monster in the...
Steam, the most popular digital game distributor for PC players, has once again broken its own concurrent user record, breaching 40 million players for the first time. Over the weekend — which just so happened to coincide with Monster Hunter Wilds' launch on Friday, February 28 — Steam logged 40,270,997 simultaneous players, breaking its previous record of 39.9 million players set in February 2025. In fact, according to SteamDB, Steam's concurrent record, seen by some as a way of measuring the success of Valve's digital platform, has been broken almost every single month since May 2024, with the concurrent peak rising from 35.5 million users to 40.2 million in a little more than six months. And while that number includes idle players...

Buried like some kind of cursed treasure at the bottom of this week’s episode of the official Xbox Podcast was news about Playground Games’ long-awaited Fable. I call it “treasure” because it included a rare glimpse at gameplay, but “cursed” because it came with that dreaded caveat that accompanies so many development updates: a delay. Once planned to launch this year, Fable is now set for a 2026 release. Delays, of course, are generally not harbingers of doom, despite the agonising wait they inflict. In Fable’s case, hopefully this is the sign of a richly detailed world that just needs more time to bloom. But that extra year of waiting can be put to good use: there’s no better time to play the Fable games. Specifically, I’d urge you...
Welcome to Beyond! Game Club, a new segment for podcast Beyond! where each month we will be picking games to play as a group and talking about our experiences as we progress through them. The games will range from various classics to quintessential PlayStation games we consider must plays, and even revisiting some recent favorites to prepare for upcoming sequels (looking at you Ghost of Tsushima and Yotei)! However, for March we decided it would be a great time to revisit one of our favorite superhero games of all time: Batman: Arkham Asylum. It's been at least 10 years since many of us dove into 2009's Batman: Arkham Asylum and now feels like the perfect time to revisit the game that almost singlehandedly revitalized the superhero...
Clone Hero streamer and content creator CarnyJared has completed a full combo (FC) for DragonForce’s infamous Guitar Hero 3 song Through the Fire and Flames — at 200% speed. The streamer's description of the event says it all: “IT. IS. OVER.” Posted yesterday, February 27, is recorded evidence of the unbelievable feat and world record CarnyJared managed to pull off while streaming. As he launches into his final, successful attempt at hitting all 3,722 notes without missing a beat, on-screen text reminds viewers that this grand finale is the result of nine months of practicing. “I am rightfully thankful for everybody that has supported me throughout this ridiculous grind. I have the best supporters on the entire platform of Twitch and...
Monster Hunter Wilds is out and millions of players are making their hunters. It might be worth spending some extra time in the character creator though, as frequent extensive edits can run up a tab. Character Edit Vouchers make a return in Monster Hunter Wilds (as pointed out by VGC), adding a microtransaction for returning to the creator screen. While smaller edits to your character — say, hair color or voice pitch — won't consume a voucher, more extensive edits will require a voucher. "You can edit hair, eyebrow color, facial hair, makeup and clothing from the Appearance Menu in tent without using a voucher," the description on the Steam page states. More extensive edits, anywhere from changing the actual voice to swapping from a...
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 developer Saber Interactive and publisher Focus Entertainment have published early 7.0 update patch notes, while teasing the long-awaited Horde mode. In a community post, the companies said the 7.0 update is in the works and a release date is coming. But it also outlined several awaited features it’ll bring: Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Update 7.0: One Chapter Pack One Champion Pack Private PvP lobbies A new weapon (only in PvE for now) New Operation Weapon perks rebalance Class weapon loadouts rework PvE Prestige Rank The PvE Prestige Rank is perhaps of most interest to veteran players of Space Marine 2 looking for a new challenge or goal to work towards. Here’s how it works: once you reach...
Monster Hunter Wilds is now out in the wild, and monster hunters are logging on in droves to start exploring the Forbidden Lands. Before they go, though, a few are taking a moment to remember some beloved NPCs from games past who kept their bellies full for every hunt. Over on the Monster Hunter subreddit, posts have popped up reminding players to leave well-wishes for the chefs of previous Monster Hunter games, specifically Monster Hunter World and Rise. Cooks aren't just the NPCs you tend to interact with pretty often, ensuring you've got good food buffs before heading out to fight against a scary beast; they're also, broadly, pretty well-liked in the community. The Grammeowster Chef from Monster Hunter World Iceborne, for instance...
A new month brings even more games! While many of us will still be immersed in Monster Hunter Wilds, those who manage to break away will be looking for something new to play. Of course, there are some major releases on the horizon, but at Green Man Gaming, we’re all about shining a spotlight on […] Continue reading...
