Elden Ring Nightreign has enjoyed a massive launch on Steam, but the excitement was tarnished by a ‘mixed’ user review rating. FromSoftware’s co-op spin-off saw an incredible 313,593 peak concurrent users on Steam overnight, enough to make Elden Ring Nightreign one of the most-played games on Valve’s platform. But it also came with a number of negative reviews (67% of the reviews are positive so far), most of which point out Elden Ring Nightreign’s lack of duos, or two-player co-op, and voice chat. Elden Ring Nightreign drops players into the shifting lands of Limveld, exploring and fighting for survival either solo or in groups of three. There is no way to play two-player co-op. As explained in IGN's Elden Ring Nightreign review...
Another Friday, another fresh drop of game deal delights, and this one's stacked with hefty discounts and fascinating gems. Whether you’re craving a bit of retro reinvention or eyeing something that’s 100% free (yes, really), there’s plenty to tempt across every major platform. Until I see you on Monday, stay safe and save often (as in "to SSD" as well as money-wise). This Day in Gaming 🎂 In retro news, I'm celebrating the 12th birthday of GRiD 2, a weirdly capitalised racer that nonetheless delivered. Codemasters popped the hood on this sequel and bolted in a new 'TrueFeel' handling system, hoping to hit the apex between realism and accessibility. Personally, I remember it having Bathurst DLC, lacking a cockpit view, veering more...
The Epic Games Store is giving away a beloved indie title and the most recent Borderlands game as part of its weekly rollout of free PC games. It’s an especially notable addition to Epic’s long-running free game promotion, which sees the company dropping a variety of titles for all Epic Games Store users at no additional cost every week. This week, PC users can add Playdead’s breakout video game, Limbo, and Gearbox’s Dungeons & Dragons-inspired Borderlands spinoff, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, to their libraries. Both titles are available to nab from now to next Thursday, June 5, at 8am PT / 11am ET, at which point they’ll no longer be free to own. Even if you don’t find yourself playing games on PC very often, you might as well sign into...
The final stop for our IGN First trip to FromSoftware was the sound room where Lead Composer Shoi Miyazawa crafts the wonderful soundtracks that fill The Lands Between and Limveld with notes of hope, melancholy, and strife. Here's our interview touching upon what goes into creating a FromSoft soundtrack, what specifically were the notes from the director given with regards to Nightreign's music, and Miyazawa's own personal influences. IGN: So I just wanted start off by asking you about how you fell into the world of composing music for video games. Are you a big fan? Shoi Miyazawa - Lead Sound Designer on Elden Ring Nightreign: I was a fan of the Armored Core games. So when Hoshino-san approached me about recruitment at...

The battle for Super Earth is raging on in Helldivers 2, as players fight to hold back the invading Illuminate fleet. A new controversy surrounding the invasion, though, has led to some frustration and a fresh flood of negative reviews. To set the stage, the latest update for Helldivers 2 — Heart of Democracy — brought months and months of storyline building to fruition. The Meridian Singularity, a black hole formed during an operation against Terminids, had been flung towards Super Earth as the tip of the spear for an Illuminate invasion. The "Great Host" fleet flooded through the now-wormhole and onto Super Earth, turning the planet into a battlefield. In the days since the update went live, players have fought to hold the various...
2025 is definitely the year of the Toxic Avenger. The long-awaited movie reboot starring Peter Dinklage is finally hitting theaters in September, and the Toxic Crusaders beat-em-up game is slated for release in Q2 2025. Not to be outdone, AHOY Comics is in the midst of "Toxic Mess Summer," as Toxie teams up with heroes from across the AHOY Universe. IGN can exclusively reveal that AHOY will follow up Toxie Team-Up with a Toxic Crusaders series, one that, like the game, aims to capitalize on the nostalgia surrounding the classic animated series. Check out the Retroware game variant cover to Toxic Crusaders #1 below: And see artist AR Sullivan's variant cover to Toxic Crusaders #1 below: Toxic Crusaders is a five-issue miniseries...
Ahead of the launch of Elden Ring Nightreign, developer FromSoftware has warned PC gamers that they may experience framerate drops if they’re using "the latest graphics cards." In a vague note to fans included with Elden Ring Nightreigh’s day-one patch notes, FromSoftware said it was investigating the cause, and suggested those affected drop the graphics settings down from the default "High" to "Medium" or "Low" and lowering the screen resolution, as well as installing the latest drivers for your graphics card. Here’s the statement: FromSoftware also issued troubleshooting advice for the PC version, suggesting those who run into issues verify the integrity of the game files: Troubleshooting for the PC version of Elden Ring...
Elden Ring Nightreign’s release is just hours away, and publisher Bandai Namco has detailed its day-one patch, which makes some important changes to the game. Patch 1.01 is out now, Bandai Namco said, with the multiplayer spin-off set to go live on May 29 or May 30, depending on your timezone. Check out the Elden Ring Nightreign global release times for more. The patch, Bandai Namco said, improves “handling” of playable characters, makes balance adjustments, tweaks text, adds character scenarios, and adds to the soundtrack. There are bug fixes in there, too. “This update brings gameplay and stability improvements to ensure an optimal experience for your first steps in Limveld,” Bandai Namco said. You’ll know you have the latest...
Capcom has quietly updated Lost Planet 2 to remove Games for Windows Live (GFWL), essentially eliminating online functionality and previous save data. It's come as quite a shock to Lost Planet fans on the subreddit, not least because Lost Planet 2 is a multiplayer game. As we wrote in our 2010 review: "At its core it's a potentially great action game and it's very good-looking, but it explains itself so incredibly poorly and has such an awkward structure and poor checkpointing that a lot of the fun is ruined by interminable frustration — not to mention the fact that it's basically unplayable as a single-player game. It has a few genuine standout moments, especially on the rare occasions that everything works in co-op, but they don't...
Funcom asked us to "let them cook," and going on last night's Dune: Awakening showcase, the developers did. With just a few days to go before early access players get their "head start," Funcom put on a livestream showing off Dune: Awakening's mid-to-endgame, and a wide tour of the Hagga Basin "to emphasize the size and variety players can expect," including the "lush O’odham, the forbidding Hagga Rift, the tall spires and imposing rock formations of Jabal Eifrit, to name just a few." Inspired by Denis Villeneuve and Legendary Entertainment’s blockbuster films, Dune: Awakening lets players explore Arrakis in an open-world game for the first time ever. Up until now, even beta players have only seen around 25% of Hagga Basin, so the...
If your wishlist has been gathering digital dust, now’s the time to shake it loose with some serious savings across Switch, Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. Whether you're keen for a nostalgic hit, a narrative rabbit hole, or some slick arcade action, there's a little something for every flavour of gamer. And with discounts deep enough to make your backlog groan, it's the perfect excuse to finally press "buy." This Day in Gaming 🎂 In retro news, I'm using a tactical Nuke to light a 28-candle cake for Shadow Warrior. It may look like a dog's breakfast through your modern eyes, but '97-me was dazzled with engine improvements like true room-over-room situations, 3D voxels instead of 2D sprites for weapons, transparent water, climbable ladders...
FromSoftware games have always had a very distinct visual style, So much so, that it's usually pretty easy to predict when that iconic "FromSoftware" logo is about to pop up after a sudden fade to black, even in an announced game trailer for an upcoming FromSoft game. This is thanks to the many talented artists at the studio, and during my time at their office, I got a chance to sit down with one of them, Concept and Environmental Artist Saori Mizuno, to talk about her inspirations, the art direction she was given for Elden Ring Nightreign, and how it differed from her work on previous FromSoft games. IGN: So generally, what was different about working on Nightreign versus the base Elden Ring game, or and anything prior that you have...

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is now up to an incredible 60 million copies sold, CD Projekt has announced as part of its latest financial report. The 60 million figure includes sales of the base game and the GOTY version, but excludes expansions sold separately. It’s close to overtaking the latest sales figure we have for Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. In a June 2023 interview with IGN, Bethesda development chief Todd Howard said Skyrim had sold over 60 million copies. So, we now have a potential tie for the best-selling role-playing game of all time. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt launched in May 2015, and recently celebrated its 10-year anniversary. Here’s Adam Badowski, joint CEO of CD Projekt, on The Witcher 3 sales milestone...
Cyberpunk 2077 sequel Cyberpunk 2 has officially entered pre-production, developer CD Projekt has confirmed. The studio made the announcement as part of its latest financial results, where it said the Phantom Liberty expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 had hit an impressive 10 million copies sold. 96 of CD Projekt’s 730 developers are now working on Cyberpunk 2, it added. The majority of the staff (422) is working on The Witcher 4, which is in full production. "Several weeks ago the CD Projekt Red team responsible for the next big game set in the Cyberpunk universe completed the project’s conceptual phase," CD Projekt said. "As a result, Cyberpunk 2 – previously known under the codename Project Orion – has progressed to pre-production."...
June is set to be dominated by the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, which arrives alongside a flood of re-releases, remasters, and more. And while that’s undoubtedly going to grab most of the spotlight, plenty of us won’t be jumping aboard just yet; mostly because, let’s be honest, it’s not exactly cheap. That’s where […] Continue reading...
Looks like Death Stranding isn't only heading to live-action, but anime as well. In a new article ahead of June's Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, director Hideo Kojima has seemingly confirmed an anime adaptation of Death Stranding is on the way. Speaking to Vogue Japan (via VGC), Kojima mentioned his current collaboration with A24 on the live-action Death Stranding film adaptation, but closed off with a little extra note about an anime in the works. Here's the quote, via machine translation: While no production studio was confirmed, it does certainly sound like Death Stranding has another adaptation on the way, in anime form. In 2023, A24 officially confirmed it was collaborating with Kojima Productions and its director on a...
Elden Ring Nightreign is a weird one. It takes the foundation of one of the best open-world RPGs of a generation and turns it into not just a roguelite where death is even more of a big deal, but a three-person, co-op-focused roguelite. And in many ways, that strange experimental concoction is a success. Under the right conditions, Nightreign’s 45-ish minute runs are positively thrilling. They are packed with surprising encounters, challenging decisions, satisfying opportunities for teamwork, and some of the best boss battles FromSoftware has ever come up with – and that’s a very high bar. The big problem, however, is that those right conditions are far more difficult to create than they should be. You really need to have a consistent...
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has made some significant waves in the gaming space. And one of those key differentiators, as explored in a new interview, is the scope of Clair Obscur compared to most big games nowadays. In a new interview with GamesIndustry.biz, some of the heads at Kepler Interactive — the publisher of Clair Obscur developer Sandfall Interactive — talked about the success behind Expedition 33 and its place in the industry. In some ways, it's easier to note the ways Clair Obscur is different from the usual AAA blockbuster, and one notable difference pointed out by Kepler portfolio director Matthew Handrahan is the game's length. "Brevity should be more of a virtue in gaming," said Handrahan. "Something can be better by...
The co-CEO of the developer of MindsEye has claimed there exists a “concerted effort” to “trash the game and the studio,” and has even suggested people are being paid or using spam bots to post negative comments. Mark Gerhard, who became co-CEO of Edinburgh, Scotland-based Build A Rocket Boy alongside former Rockstar North development chief Leslie Benzies last year, issued the claims on the official MindsEye Discord, sparking a number of shocked responses from fans. MindsEye is due out on June 10, 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. It has elements of Grand Theft Auto, Watch Dogs, Cyberpunk, and a user generated content portion that has been labeled “AAA Minecraft.” During the Q&A session on...
The night looms, as Bandai Namco and FromSoftware have confirmed the global release times for Elden Ring Nightreign. The official release date for Elden Ring Nightreign is May 30 at midnight EDT, for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S. As per usual, though, some timezone differences mean that certain regions will be able to log on and play a bit earlier. West coast players in the Pacific time zone, for example, can boot up Elden Ring Nightreign at 9pm on May 29. Platforms also differ, too. Per Bandai Namco's post, PC players will be able to hop in slightly ahead of everyone else in most regions. For the U.S. East Coast, PC players can start at 6pm on May 29 while console owners are stuck waiting until midnight. Bandai...

The Japanese government has released a Minecraft map of the world’s largest underground flood prevention facility. Not only is it free to download, but it lets you explore one of the Tokyo area’s lesser-known iconic locations from the comfort of your home. The Metropolitan Area Outer Underground Discharge Channel, known as G-Cans for short, is a real-life disaster prevention facility. It is best-known for its “pressure adjustment water tank” — a huge cavernous space with 59 massive pillars. A truly epic looking, boss battle-worthy location, it is G-Can’s most iconic sight, and even has the nickname “underground temple” (chika shinden) in Japan. With bags of atmosphere, it also gets used as a location for music videos, Japanese TV...

Five Nights at Freddy’s is finally coming to Dead by Daylight, but developer Behaviour Interactive still has a solid list of horror icons it wants to add to its collection. The team behind the popular asymmetrical horror experience spoke about its hopes and dreams during a conversation with IGN. As you might have guessed, the studio is always thinking about the next Killers and Survivors it can add to its lineup. What you might not know, though, is that some members of the team have their sights set on specific names. I have been here for two and a half years, and I have been on a crusade to figure out how to get The Thing into Dead by Daylight. Killer Designer and horror aficionado Jason Guzzo has helped bring infamous Killers, such...

The studio says its highly anticipated crossover Chapter is positioned to be “one of the...
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has hit another impressive milestone: 3.3 million sales in 33 days. That’s a lot of threes! Publisher Kepler Interactive and developer Sandfall Interactive announced the sales today, after the turn-based RPG crossed 1 million sales in its first three days of release. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 launched on April 24 across PC and console, but also straight into Xbox Game Pass as a day-one title. It also launched up against Bethesda’s RPG behemoth The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. But despite being in a subscription service and having that tough competition, Clair Obscur has carved out a significant slice of sales success for itself. It’s worth noting the 3.3 million sales figure does not include...
