Some days the deals just feel like kismet. I’ve been running my 15-year-old son through Red Dead Redemption for his first time, and while watching I’ve fallen head-over-spurs for it all over again. Serendipitously, I now see it’s also gone on sale today for you! Pro tip, though: when that Mexico section opens up, stay on your bloody horse. Trust me. Don’t do what my boy did and go pick flowers. You’ll ruin one of gaming’s most magical moments. Sigh This Day in Gaming 🎂 In retro news, In retro news, I’m using a Critical Finish from Nightmare’s soul-devouring blade to ignite a 16-candle cake baked for SoulCalibur IV. As a series fan since ye olde SoulBlade days, I was always going to love this, and it's a sin that it's no longer...
Xbox just had a great Q2...and it might have PlayStation to thank. Or is it PlayStation that should be thanking Xbox? Per data shared from Circana analyst Mat Piscatella, six of the ten best-selling games on PlayStation consoles in the U.S. during the second quarter of 2025 (April through June) were published by Microsoft. Most of those games were new. Forza Horizon 5 debuted at No.2 for the quarter (just behind Elden Ring Nightreign). The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion: Remastered was right behind it. Doom: The Dark Ages debuted at No. 6 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle came in at No.8. They were joined by returning titles Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 at No.4 and Minecraft at No.9. Sony only had two first-party games in the top...
Developer NetEase Games has pulled back the curtain on Marvel Rivals Season 3.5, revealing a first look at Blade and many of the other additions coming in August. The studio offered a breakdown for everything included in the mid-season refresh today, including how players will be able to use the legendary comic book Daywalker’s abilities to cut through the new content included in the upcoming August 8 update. It follows the launch of Season 3: The Abyss Awakens – and Jean Grey – just weeks ago and is a sign that NetEase intends to stick to its quick content release schedule. Marvel Rivals Season 3.5 Adds Blade and New Team-Ups Next Week Blade’s introduction into Marvel Rivals as an actual playable character and not just a creative...
Monster Hunter Wilds got off to an incredible sales start when it launched in February. Unfortunately, it seems as though its success has fallen off one heck of a cliff since then - and Capcom appears to be trying to amend that by releasing an endgame content expansion much sooner than expected. The sales data comes from Capcom's quarterly earnings report, which includes a slide presentation showing sales data for the company's top ten best-selling games from April 1 to June 30. The presentation shows that Monster Hunter Wilds sold 477k copies during that period, only just above the 389k copies sold of four-year-old game Monster Hunter Rise. Wilds was the 9th best-selling game of the quarter for Capcom, while Rise was the 10th. To be...
In Terminull Brigade, rogue A.I. and shadow algorithms are ripping the digital world apart. It's up to you and your Rogueteer allies to dive into the Nullverses and stop the onslaught. Terminull Brigade is a hyper paced roguelike third-person co-op shooter that takes place in a stricken virtual world. The battle with the dark side of the web involves getting behind the weapon of a Rogueteer and exploring Terminull Brigade's "Nullverses." Nullverses are combat zones that can be taken on as a lone player or part of a group, and they contain unique biomes and challenges. Every Nullverse run is randomized, which means every visit is a brand-new chance for loot and glory. Play across two maps: Ringed City, a high-tech cityscape lit softly...

The sequel to the studio’s Honey, I Shrunk the Kids-inspired video game launched into its early access period on Steam and Xbox Series X | S yesterday, introducing a backyard full of ideas and additions to the formula established with the original Grounded in 2022. As Obsidian plots out its future, players are showing up in droves to see what makes Grounded 2 tick. Nearly 50,000 players signed on to play Grounded 2 when it reached its Steam player peak yesterday (via SteamDB). It’s a milestone that already towers above the 32,000-player peak the original Grounded reached during its early...
It’s been a hot second since we got a proper Ninja Gaiden game. Sure, there have been other spin-offs and ports and remakes (this year’s excellent Ninja Gaiden II Black comes to mind), but Ninja Gaiden is kinda having a moment again with both Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound and the upcoming Ninja Gaiden 4. Taking such a long break leads to a very interesting question: what does a Ninja Gaiden game look like in the Year of Our Lord 2025? Well, if Ragebound’s return to 2D side-scrolling is any indication, the answer is “f***ing awesome.” It’s one of those rare games where everything just feels right and when I'm not playing it, I want to be. Ragebound puts you behind the cowl of Kenji Mozu, a young student of legendary series protagonist and...

The team behind 2025’s breakout turn-based hit laid out everything fans need to know about the new update, as well as full patch notes, on its website. It’s yet another list of post-launch changes for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 that will no doubt keep players hooked as Sandfall promises more updates with a future patch. “We’re SUPER excited to bring you the Battle Retry option in this update,” Sandfall says in its Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 1.4.0 patch notes, “which has been one of our most requested QoL additions! Activision has finally dropped new details of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's fifth season. Set to launch on August 7, Activision wants you to "unleash your inner action hero" courtesy of six new modes, four new and/or remastered maps, and a smorgasbord of new weapons, updates, and enemies across Black Ops 6, Zombies, and Warzone. "The Rogue Black Ops team is finally back in the good graces of the CIA, and that means access to all the weapons and firepower they could ask for," the publisher teases. "It’s time to finish the job they started and crush the final Pantheon moles, putting their betrayal to rest once and for all." In terms of maps, you'll find three new ones in Black Ops 6: Runway (6v6), Exchange (6v6, 2v2), the remastered...
Activision has unshackled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 from the main Call of Duty HQ launcher. In a brief message posted to social media, publisher Activision confirmed players with either Modern Warfare 2 or 3 will be able to "access them directly" and without going into HQ first once they've redownloaded fresh installs of the shooter games. Any legacy content relating to either game "within the main Call of Duty install" will be automagically removed come August 7 to "free up storage space," although a later tweet clarifies "Call of Duty: Warzone content such as MW2/MW3 operators and weapons will not be impacted by this change." Call of Duty HQ is the platform from which Call of Duty games are...
If you’ve put down your controller this year to go touch a very particular patch of grass, you might have noticed that something strange is going on at the world’s major film festivals. It started in May, when a film adaptation of virally-successful Japanese indie game Exit 8 premiered at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival – the first videogame movie to do so. The film’s director, Genki Kawamura, gives his source material a compelling structural spin, appealing equally to the arthouse crowd and to game fans. But live-action adaptations of video games are, of course, nothing new. That’s why Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Cinematic Cut is so interesting. It is not a live-action adaptation of developer Warhorse Studios’...
FromSoftware has delayed Elden Ring Nightreign patch 1.02 due to the ongoing tsunami warning in Japan after a massive earthquake off Russia triggered evacuations across the Pacific. The first waves triggered by the massive 8.8 earthquake off Russia's coast have reached Hawaii, with a 1.2 meter (4 feet) wave recorded off Oahu. In Japan, 1.9 million people have been told to evacuate and a tsunami wave of 1.3 meters (4.2 feet) has reached the northern Iwate prefecture, the BBC reported. Amid the developing situation, FromSoftware, whose head office is situated in Tokyo, issued a statement announcing the delay to the latest Elden Ring patch, which was due out today, July 30 and set to add duos mode, as well as the second cycle of...
There's a moment every week where I think, "Right, that's enough games," and then the deals roll in and I immediately fold quicker than a 3DS with a broken hinge. Today’s haul had me hovering over “Buy Now” far too often. We’ve got deep discounts across every major platform, including a few titles that haven’t been this cheap since launch week. Whether you’re in the mood to sob through a bleak detective RPG, carve through horrors with a chainsword, or just punt a co-op partner off a ledge for fun, this list’s stacked. This Day in Gaming 🎂 In retro news, I'm remembering the 16th birthday of Fat Princess, a PS3 multi-fest I spent many a hard day's knight dying in. Built for 32-player mayhem, the core gameplay revolves around kidnapping...
Last weekend, a global beta test began for Where Winds Meet, the open-world game published by NetEase that is already available in China. This free-to-play game takes place around the year 1000 between the great Tang and Song dynasties during what's known as the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period. In it, players take the role of a lone wandering hero during this time of upheaval where one's own strength matters more than the rules of society. IGN readers may not be too familiar with the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, but don’t worry – the same even seems to apply to players in China. We know that the game takes some influence from Ghost of Tsushima and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild thanks to a past interview with...
As Nintendo takes the first step toward selling full-priced, AAA games at $80 and Xbox starts to follow suit but backs off, EA has now also made its position clear: no $80 games...for now. "We're not looking to make any changes on pricing at this stage," said CEO Andrew Wilson during today's Q1 earnings call. He said this in response to an investor question regarding publishing competitors beginning to release $80 games, and where EA sees itself in relation to them. Wilson continued: EA also confirmed on the call that it hadn't factored in any changes to its existing pricing schemes to its expectations for the current fiscal year earnings guidance. The current fiscal year ends in March of 2026, so don't expect any $80 EA games...
Sony has announced the PlayStation Plus monthly lineup of games for August 2025, as the company's celebrations to mark 15 years of PS Plus continue. PS Plus originally launched on June 29, 2010, and the past month has seen big hitters such as Diablo IV and The King of Fighters XV as well as Jusant offered via the subscription service. Next up, however, comes another trio of titles — as well as some 15th anniversary avatars, too. "We’re excited to reveal a few more surprises!" wrote PlayStation's director of game services Adam Michel. "Starting August 5, PlayStation Plus members can claim a special set of 15th Anniversary Avatars, featuring fan-favorite titles like Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy, Diablo IV, God of War Ragnarök, and...
When it comes to 2D action platformers, I don’t necessarily need them to be revolutionary. But I do expect a superb execution of the fundamentals – speed, control, and challenge – all of which the upcoming Shinobi: Art of Vengeance is nailing down based on a two-hour hands-on demo I played. That’s not to say it doesn’t have new ideas woven into the formula, it’s just that I came away simply impressed by how this reboot plays like a well-oiled machine. If you haven’t seen it in action yet, think of it as the classic Shinobi franchise getting the Streets of Rage 4 treatment; a vibrant and expressive hand-drawn art style that looks fantastic in stills and even better in motion. Many of the developers at LizardCube had worked on the...
Obsidian recently made a lot of hay out of how it’s a studio that’s best known for sequels, and with Grounded 2’s early access version already shaping up to be one of the best survival games I’ve ever played, the marketing team should have plenty of fodder for that bit for years to come. This miniaturized survival game isn’t even half complete, with only one act (which took me around 25 hours to beat), just a handful of regions, and plenty of technical issues to iron out, but it already eclipses the already stellar original in practically every way. Stomping through the park atop an ant or spider simultaneously makes travel faster and more interesting while also solving my long-standing inventory gripes with Grounded 1 by letting you...
We’re over halfway through 2025 already, which means it’s time to check in on all of Sony’s PlayStation Studios to see what they’re making and what games are coming to your PS5 in the months and years to come. While the console has received some great exclusives in 2025, including the critically acclaimed Death Stranding 2, none of Sony’s first-party studios have released a new game this calendar year aside from the annual inevitability that is MLB The Show. So, surely that means plenty of PlayStation’s studios have games coming out soon, or at the very least have secrets up their sleeves, right? Well, that’s exactly what we’re going to take a look at here. What are the developers behind PlayStation’s highly-respected library up to...
Higurashi and When They Cry creator Ryukishi07 has opened up about writing Silent Hill f, likening the game's supernatural and psychological elements to, uh, "salad dressing." While the hype train is firmly out of the station for Silent Hill f — the upcoming Silent Hill title that resurrects a franchise that hasn't had a new mainline game since 2012 — we haven't heard very much from writer Ryukishi07 at all, which made his recent appearance at Anime Expo 2025 in LA last month particularly exciting. On a panel alongside producer Motoi Okamoto and composer and sound designer Akira Yamaoka, Ryukishi07 admitted he'd approached this project differently from how he typically writes a book, focusing the story on a single central theme...
Ubisoft's next big patch for Assassin's Creed Shadows is available today, July 29, 2025, and the publisher has now given a detailed rundown of everything included. As previously announced, Title Update 1.0.7 adds New Game Plus mode, which will unlock as soon as you hit the credits after completing the game's story. From here, you have a couple of options: either to restart the game from scratch, or pick up the action from when Naoe first arrives at the game's hideout. Either way, your hard-earned gear, skills, allies and hideout progression will carry over. Whether you're playing New Game Plus or not, there's a level cap increase from 60 to 80, and a boost in the Knowledge Rank cap from 8 to 10, allowing you to counter the game's...
Look, I should probably be finishing some of my backlog, but with discounts this deep across every major platform, what’s a few more download queues between friends? I've dipped into today's sales and walked away with a mix of modern bangers, cult classics, and a few unexpected favourites that all punched well above their asking price. Whether you're Team DualSense, docked on the Switch, or glued to a clicky mechanical keyboard, there’s gold in these discounts. This Day in Gaming 🎂 In retro news, I'm marking the 21st birthday of Sid Meier's Pirates!, an arrr-rated remake of an '87 classic I smashed repeatedly on PC. Think: a 2.5D, top-down Sea of Thieves, and you're not far off the mizzenmast as fencing, naval battles, sniffing out...
Sony is suing Tencent, alleging its upcoming game Light of Motiram is "a slavish clone of SIE's...Horizon series of video games." The complaint, which was filed in a California court last week, alleges that Tencent's upcoming adventure game Light of Motiram is illegally similar to Horizon: Forbidden West and Horizon: Zero Dawn in everything from creature design to protagonist to marketing materials. The complaint outlines numerous similarities, comparing various marketing screenshots from both games as well as the game descriptions. Like Horizon, Light of Motiram takes place in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by giant robot dinosaurs who roam large, natural environments such as tropical forests, deserts, and snowy mountains. Humans...
The most devastating part about Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game is just how short it falls of fulfilling such an insanely promising premise. I mean, which Tolkien nerd among us hasn’t daydreamed about living a relaxing life as a halfling? But instead of the warmth and comfort of the Shire, I spent 25 hours feeling like I was marching through the Dead Marshes in this cozy misadventure. It’s regrettably dull from start to finish, and runs so badly I wasn’t even allowed to be bored out of my mind in peace. The barebones life sim mechanics offer some of the most shallow versions of classic activities like fishing and farming that we’ve seen done much better in dozens of other games, and building social links with the...
Fortnite fans are now certain there's something new and mysterious going on within the game's classic OG mode — which, it's now clear, is dropping an extra layer of story. Let's recap. This past weekend, Fortnite's OG mode, which is slowly cycling through the game's original seasons, finally got to the battle royale's first live event orginally seen back in June 2018: the rocket launch. But, this time, things weren't quite the same. While billed as another chance to watch the same iconic live event from 2018, there were a couple of notable differences. Sure, fans saw Fortnite's rocket launch, a mysterious broadcast boom out, and the spaceship disappear into a rift leaving a huge crack in the sky. But that crack is now an ominous...

Developer Ludogram has announced a new first-person four-player co-op horror game called Invokyr, in which you and up to three friends enter an abandoned house and dare to play a cursed board game from the 1970s. Every dice roll will result in a new trap, dark twist of the environment, wicked creature, or worse. It's in development for PC (via Steam). Ludogram CEO Edouard Gaudel said, “Invokyr is a love letter to the thrill of board games and the fear of the unknown. It’s about camaraderie under pressure, betrayal at the worst possible time, and the creeping dread of a house that’s watching your every move.” Watch the announcement trailer above and check out the first screenshots in the gallery below. You'll discover single-use dice...

We've been covering Mafia: The Old Country in an exclusive way all month long through our IGN First "cover story." We hope you've enjoyed the gameplay and our hands-on preview. Today we have the pleasure of talking to Hangar 13 studio president Nick Baynes and game director Alex Cox about returning the Mafia series to its not-open-world roots, which games The Old Country takes design inspiration from, the plentiful amount of fruit found throughout the upcoming prequel, and more. The following is a transcript of the video interview above that has been lightly edited for clarity. IGN: Nick, I wanted to start here because I got to talk to you in person last week when I did get to play the game and something that jumped out at me just...
Long-awaited indie sequel Hollow Knight: Silksong will be publicly playable at Gamescom on Microsoft's Xbox booth, before its highly-anticipated launch, due sometime before the end of 2025. Silksong sounds like it will be one of the booth's biggest draws, alongside a first public outing for the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X — the third-party portable Xbox consoles also out later this year. The Outer Worlds 2, Xbox's biggest first-party game for the rest of this year that's not Call of Duty, meanwhile gets a "theater experience", which sounds like it'll be hands-off demo. In terms of other playable stuff, well, Obsidian's garden sequel Grounded 2 will be there, if you don't want to just play the Game Preview version at home. More...
