Where Winds Meet, a Beautiful New Open World RPG, Is Coming to PS5 - State of Play 2024

Gorgeous open-world RPG Where Winds Meet has reemerged at Sony's State of Play today, and is no longer a PC exclusive. Alongside a new trailer, we learned that Where Winds Meet will also be headed to PS5, though we're still not sure exactly when.

In a PlayStation Blog post, we learned a little more about Where Winds Meet, specifically its take on showcasing Chinese martial arts. From the blog:

Your character might use the mystical power of Qinggong to run up sheer cliffs or across the shimmering surface of water at high speed or use the power of Chi to stun enemies from a distance, or grasp objectives from far out of reach. Martial arts skills can also be acquired from observing and mimicking the behavior of animals. Breath fire like a dragon, leap like a giant toad or roar like a lion – all skills that can prove incredible useful when faced with an array of foes, whether human or maybe with that giant bear you accidentally provoked!

Where Winds Meet is set in the Ten Kingdoms Era during a battle between rival dynasties, where the player takes the role of a swordsman who will influence the conflict in different ways depending on their choices. It's influenced heavily by Wuxia, a Chinese fiction genre where ancient Chinese fighters are depicted with superhuman abilities. This influence, according to the blog, will become evidence both in the protagonist's abilities and choice, as well as in the behavior and styles of certain NPCs.

Where Winds Meet was first revealed back at Gamescom Opening Night Live in 2022 from Chinese developer Everstone Studios. In a preview last August, we went hands-on, getting a taste of Where Winds Meet's mix of Zelda and The Witcher gameplay and the seemingly massive amount of systems, choices, and possibilities at play.
