Valve is Now Selling Refurbished Steam Decks

If you are looking to buy a Steam Deck but aren't a fan of the starting retail prices, a refurbished one might be a good option.

In a blog post today, Valve announced that it is now selling "certified refurbished" portable handheld gaming PC units. Buying a refurbished unit can save you up to $130, and Valve says that the units it's selling are going through it's certified testing process.

  • 64 GB model – $319 (was $399)
  • 256 GB model – $419 (was $529)
  • 512 GB model – $519 (was $649)

Valve also confirmed in a post on X that GameStop will also begin selling refurbished Steam Decks in select locations starting today.

Introducing Valve Certified Refurbished Steam Decks! These are fully tested at Valve facilities and come with the same 1-year warranty as a new Deck. Supplies are limited and expect these to come in and out of stock as available.

Now as you'd expect with any refurbished product, you might see some "minor cosmetic blemishes or scratches. But Valve did confirm that any refurbished Steam Deck sold includes one year warranty (just like the new models). But if you buy a refurbished one from GameStop, it will come with its own warrant, according to Valve.

Valve released the Steam Deck over a year ago, and it helped make portable gaming PCs become a mainstream gadget. In our review of the Steam Deck, which we awarded a 7 out of 10 on our review scale, my colleague Seth Macy said, "When Steam Deck lives up to its promises, it's sublime, but when it falls short, it falls hard."
