The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Getting Official Mod Editor From CD Projekt

CD Projekt is releasing an official mod editor for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in 2024, meaning fans will soon be able to create their own custom content based on the beloved role-playing game's pre-existing assets.

The Witcher X/Twitter account revealed the news, below, saying it is "thrilled" to reveal CD Projekt is working on the mod editor, which will be released for free sometime next year.

"We're thrilled to announce that we're working on a mod editor for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt," the post said. "It will allow you to create your own experiences in the game by making something completely new or editing existing quests and content. We’re planning on releasing it for free in 2024."

The mod editor will likely breathe further life into The Witcher 3, which received a PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X update in December 2022 but otherwise won't be receiving any new official content as CD Projekt focuses on its wealth of other incoming projects.

CD Projekt confirmed in a follow up post on X/Twitter that the mod editor will only be coming to PC, despite fellow-RPG maker Bethesda bringing mod support to console through the likes of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, but as the developer continues to support The Witcher 3 nine years after its release, it might consider console support at some point in the future.

The new wave of mods will perhaps tide fans over until the highly anticipated next Witcher game launches, though this won't be until 2025 at the absolute earliest. There are two other games in the franchise on the horizon too, a remake of the original Witcher and a multiplayer spin-off, though both are likely still years away.

In our 9/10 review of the base game, IGN said: "Massive in size, and meticulously detailed, The Witcher 3 ends Geralt's story on a high note."
