Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Release Date Delayed Six Weeks

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is being delayed, EA announced today. Respawn's forthcoming sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will now release April 28 — approximately six weeks after its original date.

In a statement posted on social media, director Stig Asmussen addressed the reasoning behind the delay, saying the team is focused on polishing the final release while enhancing performance.

Thanks to EA and Respawn for giving us the time to deliver the best experience for our players, and to all of you for your understanding.

Respawn Entertainment CEO and Group GM Vince Zampella also released a statement, saying that Respawn is "dedicated to making games that feel good to play."

"We're proud of the game this team has created and giving them the extra time ensures that on April 28th we're delivering another great Star Wars experience for our players," Zampella said.

First announced last May, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is the follow-up to Respawn's initial turn with the series, which attracted more than 20 million players across multiple releases. Featuring Cal Kestis as a Jedi fleeing the Purge, Fallen Order won praise for its outstanding combat and generally strong story, but was criticized for its lack of polish.

Polish has been a particular problem across EA over the past years. In 2021, Battlefield 2042 was harshly criticized for its problems as launch, and while its development team has worked diligently to address community feedback, it still suffers from perception problems. This was one of a handful of reasons for delaying Jedi: Survivor, IGN understands, another one being a stated desire to avoid crunch where possible.

We had a chance to check out Star Wars Jedi: Survivor back in December, and you can check out the 14 gameplay changes we've seen so far in the video above. We also talked to Cal Kestis actor Cameron Monaghan about his desire to see Cal team up with Yaddle [Editor's Note: In fairness, that would be pretty cool].

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will release April 28 on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC. Check out the rest of 2023's biggest releases here.
