Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush Physical Releases Will Be Handled by Limited Run in Wake of Xbox's Commitment to Discs

We learned earlier today that Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush, once console exclusives to Xbox, are two of four games releasing on other consoles in the coming months. Shortly after that, Obsidian and Bethesda announced that both games will receive a physical and digital release.

In a blog post, Obsidian announced that Pentiment will arrive on Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PS5 tomorrow, February 22. The physical edition will be available to order starting tomorrow, but only for Switch, PS5, and Xbox.

Bethesda announced in its blog post that in addition to Hi-Fi Rush launching on PlayStation 5 on March 19, a physical edition for both the Xbox and PS5 versions will be released. However, no additional information has been shared yet, including the launch date for the physical edition.

Limited Run Games will handle both physical releases. While pricing was not revealed for Hi-Fi Rush, the company has already posted a listing for the physical releases of Pentiment, retailing for $34.99 regardless of platform. Like previous releases, Pentiment's physical edition will be available for a limited time, with the pre-ordering window starting tomorrow and ending on March 24, 2024.

The announcement came just one day after Xbox boss Phil Spencer said he is still "supportive" of physical media despite rumors that the Xbox brand is pivoting to a digital-centric business. "And getting rid of physical, that's not a strategic thing for us," Spencer said in a recent interview with Game File.

In addition to Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush, the other two Xbox first-party games are receiving multiplatform releases are Obsidian's survival title Grounded and Rare's pirate-themed action game Sea of Thieves.
