Bandai Namco is continuing to celebrate the first anniversary of Elden Ring by sharing a morbid but hilarious infographic on the number of times players have died in the game. Spoiler alert: they've been killed over 9 billion times to date. There are a thousand ways to die, but the publisher created a pie chart narrowing it down to four causes of in-game deaths. According to the chart, damage from enemies and NPCs, including boss fights, is the leading cause of in-game death at 69%. The infographic revealed that players attempted to fight Malenia 329 million times. That number may not reveal how many players died at her hands, but it doesn't exactly show how many players defeated her, either. Meanwhile, players have tried fighting Margit the Fell Omen 281 million times, Limgrave Tree Sentinel 277 million times, Radagon of the Golden Order 148 million times, and Starscourge Radahn 139 million times. The second-leading cause of death is the status effects (15%) doled out to them in battle, including poison, scarlet rot, blood loss, frostbite, sleep, madness, and death blight. The third-leading cause of death is players falling to their death (14%). The last cause of death is players getting killed by other players, although the chances of that happening are a minuscule 2%. The infographic comes nearly three weeks after FromSoftware announced it is making Elden Ring's first major expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree. It didn't say exactly when the expansion will come out, so fans will have to keep their eyes open for a release date. Cristina Alexander is a freelance writer for IGN.
