Digimon Survive Finally Gets a Release Date, Coming July

Digimon Survive finally has a release date, with the new strategy RPG confirmed to be launching on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC this summer.

Producer Kazumasa Habu revealed the date in a tweet, with a release this summer marking four years since the game was revealed, and three since it was originally meant to be launched. Published by Bandai Namco, Survive breaks the formula of previous Digimon games by blending the visual novel and turn-based, strategy RPG genres.

The game will place emphasis on storytelling in what's promised to be an anime-esque campaign featuring unique characters with plenty of drama that unfolds across branching storylines. While on a school trip, protagonist Takuma Momozuka is randomly transported to a mysterious world full of monsters, and it's up to the player to help him get home.

Neither publisher Bandai Namco nor developer Witchcraft have revealed much else about the game despite its long development period, but a teaser trailer was released last month that shows off some of the game's characters. The game's opening cinematic was also shared back in 2019, but there's no telling if the movie has been changed at all amid the three year gap.

It'll be a tough choice for RPG fans when Digimon Survive launches this summer, as it'll be out the same day as Xenoblade Chronicles 3, which recently had its release date moved up. Both games are out in North America on July 29.
