Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone The Haunting Event Details Explained

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II just released its The Haunting, a spooky event available in Multiplayer, Warzone, and DMZ. Here’s what’s happening!

The Dark Ritual Operators have opened a Hellmouth that let in otherworldly threats into the world. This open gate also let in Spawn, you know that Hellspawn superhero you may have seen from that cult classic movie in 1997. He entered our world to help defend us.

At least that’s the reasoning given to us to make him available in the battle pass as an unlockable skin. Along with Spawn, there are several other skins available in the shop like Lilith from Diablo, Skeletor, and Alucard from Hellsing.

Soul-Capture is a big part of The Haunting. You can collect Souls in Multiplayer, Warzone, and DMZ from eliminating players, any enemies, and monsters. Players who are killed will drop souls that will be automatically collected for you.

You can choose to turn in Souls to collect rewards from the event tab. There are a series of free rewards you can get from just playing the game and collecting Souls. There are quite a few things you can unlock now with more coming later this month. And, you can get daily rewards just from logging into the game as The Haunting continues.

Multiplayer Update

Multiplayer has two new Core and Gunfight Maps. The Core maps consist of La Casa and Koro Village and Gunfight gets King and Fight. You might recognize some of these map from previous iterations of Call of Duty that are returning.

The Haunting specific multiplayer maps are reskins of previous events as well. El Asilo is themed around Dia De Muertos while Embassy is the site of a horrific zombie attack. With these maps, there are a few new game modes to dive into.

Haunting Domination is a play on the classic game mode to own all the control points on the map, but the flags on each point are a Scarecrow. Haunting Kill Confirmed and Grind has you collecting skulls instead of Dog Tags. Haunting Drop Zone Drop Scares has you and your team having to hold Drop Zones to get points whille bracing yourself for any jumpscares might pop out at you while you capture care packages.

And finally, Haunted Infected will feature zombies. Kind of. Players who become infected in this game mode will become zombies.

Warzone Update

The Haunting changes Warzone and DMZ by adding a nighttime map of Al Mazrah. Sticking with the Halloween spooky theme, be aware since any lootable boxes in the map that are opened can set off a jumpscare. It’s fun in concept but it gets pretty old quickly and is annoying to get a fullscreen jumpscare when you're just trying to loot quickly and not die.

Because the Dark Ritual Operators decided to open the Hellmouth, eldritch horrors have entered Al Mazrah in Warzone. If you click into the event tab on the Call of Duty launcher, you can click into Operation Nightmare to see who your targets are in the map.

Each target is a boss and if you eliminate all of them you’ll be able to unlock a new Submachine gun blueprint. Each boss also has a specific mission to conduct and a special calling card for defeating them.

Vondel, the Resurgence map, will also get a Haunting takeover of zombies in the city later in the season. Titled Vondead, there are a series of demonic altars located around the map that can trigger a boss fight with The butcher which will take you into an underground battleground to fight him.

Zombie Royale is coming back later in this season for a limited-time on both Vondel and Al Mazrah as separate game modes. Players who are killed in the match by enemy players will automatically become zombies with special abilities to take out the surviving humans in the match.

If your teammate is killed and turned into a zombie, you can still work together with them as a team. But if they’re killed as a zombie, they’ll be out from the match. There are syringes you can collect that will help you become a human again too if you want to revert back.

Each match may have an event where all dead operators come back as zombies, so if you’re eliminated, stick around for a bit to spectate your team and you may get called back from the dead.

Another limited-time mode coming later this season is Vondead Lockdown. It’s an objective-based Battle Royale mode on Vondel where players can use their custom loadouts and go throughout the map to capture and hold zones. Vondel will be in a special night-time setting for Vondead Lockdown this event.

DMZ is also getting a nighttime mode around the same time as Vondead Lockdown and Zombie Royale. In DMZ, there won't a circle of gas constantly closing but instead lots of supernatural enemies scattered across Al Mazrah to hunt. You’ll get the chance to tackle bosses and kill the loose entities and get intel on them.

More rewards and game modes will be unlocking soon around October 24th, so be sure to check back in the game for your free rewards and unlocks.
