This comes hours after Bungie confirmed that it would be <a href="https://www.ign.com/articles/bungie-walks-away-from-destiny-2-final-content-update-coming-in-june" target="_blank">winding down support for Destiny 2</a> after its next update, which is set to release in June.</p><p></p><p><a href="https://www.ign.com/articles/destiny-2-fans-react-to-bungie-ending-support-for-the-game" target="_blank">Some feared this was a bad sign for Bungie's future</a>, as Destiny 2 is its most popular active game. According to Bloomberg, Bungie leadership was evaluating ways to make Destiny 2 more accessible to new players, but ultimately decided to embrace Marathon and shifted developers and resources to the extraction shooter.</p><p></p><p>Bungie reportedly plans to continue pitching ideas in the Destiny universe, but there's no guarantee that they will be greenlit for full production due to a challenging market and econmic concerns. Currently, Bungie doesn't have another game lined up and there are no plans to enter development on Destiny 3 at this time. As of right now, Marathon will remain the focus for Bungie, with the studio hoping to increase player counts following a disappointing launch.</p><p></p><p>Bungie recently <a href="https://www.ign.com/articles/marathon-reveals-new-pve-mode-and-big-plans-for-the-future" target="_blank">outlined its plans for the future of Marathon</a>, confirming that it will be adding new PvE content that will appeal to players who don't care for PvP or extraction gameplay. There's also an effort underway to improve the onboarding experience to make the game less intimidating to newcomers. The Destiny developer <a href="https://www.ign.com/articles/the-last-of-us-online-was-great-but-naughty-dog-canceled-it-after-bungie-explained-what-it-takes-to-make-live-service-games-ex-playstation-exec-says" target="_blank">told Naughty Dog what it would take to make and support a live service game</a>, which led to Naughty Dog walking away from the project. Destiny 2 also failed to meet expectations for Sony, <a href="https://www.ign.com/articles/sony-says-bungie-hasnt-brought-in-as-much-money-as-it-thought-it-would-when-it-bought-the-developer-as-destiny-2-falls-off-a-cliff" target="_blank">resulting in a $204 impariment loss</a> in 2025. The developer was best known for its work remastering/remaking classic games and was expected to continue doing so for PlayStation.
