but I think its related that Minecraft seems to use a newer version of OpenGL in 1.8, this will be fixed in 1.9 according to notch.

Cheers pal. When's 1.9 planned to come out? I may wait for that and if I still get the black screen of death I'll invest in a new OS.

My mac's about 5 years old.. pretty sure it's intel based.

Well that is an easy fix, you just need to go to and download more RAM. duh.

It was a problem with the change in graphics when 1.8 was released. However, it's now been fixed with the latest update. 🙂 Definitely need more RAM, 1gb isn't much fun.
