Thank your own personal deity—possibly Kratos—it's Friday! Today, I'm pretty stoked to see some early Black Friday deals seeping out of the woodwork. The official kickoff for that event is November 29th, buuuut I'm not going to be a stickler for punctuality if it means I can save a ton of money. So let's get into that right now!
In retro news, I'm taking the time to celebrate the 29th anniversary of the OG PlayStation console. Launched as a complete unknown in the Aussie gaming space, this unassuming grey brick of wonders went for $A699.95 (A$1,447 adjusted), which nicely undercut its chief rival, the less 3D-competent Sega Saturn.
To say this upstart was successful would be quite the understatement. Over its 11-year lifetime, 8,000 titles were made to supply an install base of 100 million units. It also birthed mega-franchises like Tekken, Crash Bandicoot, Gran Turismo, Resi Evil, and more. Pictured here is my SCPH-1002 "audiophile" original. The old grey mare still works, and I still love her to (32-) bits.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered - $74.95 / $69
The Last of Us Parts I and II seem to come with the same Pro Enhancement approaches. Unlike the base version, there'll be no more slummin' it as you choose "Performance" or "Fidelity"—you get a dedicated 4K/60 fps "Pro" mode that draws from the best of both. The basic concept is that these games will render internally at 1440p, get scaled with PSSR, and then the brutal firefights I knew and loved now feel insanely smooth and utterly gore-gous to boot. Again, this is a game I've multi-clocked and have zero need to revisit; the benefits in look and feel have me prepping another Grounded+ return tour.

What you'll pay to 'Station.
